Crawford, Genevieve Stetka

Genevieve Stetka Crawford of Denton, MD, went home to be with her Lord Thursday, November 4, 2010, at the Memorial Hospital in Easton, MD. Born December 27, 1920 in Baltimore, MD. She was 89 years old. Mrs. Crawford was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Olga (Trau) Stetka. She had graduated as Valedictorian in 1938 from the Laurel High School in Laurel, Maryland. She worked for the Department of the Navy during WWI before she married Amos Allen Crawford II who died December 22, 1988. They moved to Illinois to farm, and then moved back to Maryland, where they lived for many years in Annapolis. She had also maintained a strong interest in the American Legion Post Auxiliary. They moved to Denton in 1984. She had worked as an office manager, loved gardening, and quilting, however, above all else, she always considered herself mainly a homemaker for her beloved children and family.

Mrs. Crawford is survived by two daughters, Susan M. Miller of Denton, N. Lynn Creason and her husband Charles of Denton, and two sons, Amos A. Crawford III of Denton and Robert E. Crawford of Federalsburg, MD; a foster son James M. Hutchinson, of Talbot County one brother, Edward J. Stetka of Stevensville; four grandchildren: Gerald Roy, Scott Creason, Stephen Creason, and Stefani Pautz; seven great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by one brother, Frank C. Stetka, and two sisters: Mae Hatcher and Lucille Monroe.

A memorial service will be held 11 o'clock on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at the American Legion Caroline Post 29 on Legion Road near Denton. The internment will be private at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock, MD.

The family suggests for memorial donations to be sent to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 29, C/O Mrs. Joanne Weis, 8709 Harmony Road, Denton, MD 21629 or to the Denton Ambulance Squad P.O. Box 273 Denton, Maryland 21629

Willis, Peggy Joyce

Peggy J. Willis of Burrsville, MD, died Friday, June 18, 2010, in the Easton, MD Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit. She was 64 years old.

Born in Hobbs near Denton, MD, on May 12, 1946, Ms. Willis was the daughter of the late Edward Howard Willis and Mamie Ellen Schuyler Willis. She had attended North Caroline High School.

Ms. Willis had worked for Etna Shirt Co. as a seamstress for 15 years before retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Ames United Methodist Church in Hobbs.

Ms. Willis is survived by her daughter, Joyce Ellen Layton of Harrington, DE; two sisters: Pauline Workman of Harrington, DE and Catherine Corkell of Harrington; one brother, Robert "Bobby" Willis of Denton; one granddaughter, Roni Rene Collison, and two grandsons: Randy Collison and Chad Layton. She is preceded in death by her brother, Edward "Junior" H. Willis, and a sister, Anna Mae Williams.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday, June 23rd, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 South Second Street in Denton where friends may call one hour before the service.

The interment will be in the Concord Cemetery on Federalsburg Rd., Federalsburg, MD.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests for memorial donations to be sent to the Ames United Methodist Church, PO Box 145 Preston, MD 21655.

Ebling, Elsie M.

Elsie M. Ebling of Ridgely, Maryland died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in

Memorial Hospital at Easton as the result of injuries from an auto accident. She was 91 years old.

Born on May 27, 1919, in Ridgely, Maryland, Miss Ebling was the daughter of John Stoudt Ebling and Rosie Turner Ebling.

She was a graduate of Ridgely High School and was seamstress and a supervisor at Rob Roy Clothing in Ridgely for many years.

Miss Ebling was an active member of the Ridgely Church of the Brethren where she was a teacher and had served as secretary and in many other capacities. A 4-H All Star, she had been very involved in the community all of her life, including volunteering at the Caroline Nursing Home and helping others in their daily routines. She was selected as Most Beautiful Person in Caroline County.

Miss Ebling is survived by six nephews: Robert Hutchison, Harold Hutchison, John Earl Hutchison, Richard Hutchison, David Hutchison, all of Cordova, Maryland and Henry Saulsbury Fisher of Denton, MD and one niece, Frances LaCroix of Green Valley, AZ. She was predeceased by two sisters: Caroline Hutchison and Amanda Fisher.

A funeral service will be 11 o'clock Tuesday, June 15, at the Ridgely Church of the Brethren, 110 Park Avenue, Ridgely, MD 21660.

Friends may call Monday evening from 6 until 8 at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 South Second Street in Denton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests sending memorial donations to the Ridgely Church of the Brethren, 110 Park Ave., Ridgely, MD 21660.

Interment will be in Ridgely Cemetery in Ridgely.

Clark, Chad Dulin

Chad Dulin Clark of Denton, MD, died Saturday, December 18, 2010, as the result of an automobile accident. He was 19 years old.

Born in Easton, MD, on April 13, 1991, Chad was the son of David J. Clark of Denton and Melinda L. and Rick Conner of Denton. He was a life-long resident of Caroline County and was a 2009 graduate of North Caroline High School.

In high school, Chad was in the National Honor Society, was President of the Student Council his Senior year, and played baseball and soccer. He had played all levels of Little League baseball and youth soccer in Denton and had refereed Indoor Soccer for the Parks and Recreation program in Caroline County, was a MD 4-H All Star, and had been a member of the Pure Country 4-H Club. He was presently a sophomore at the University of MD at College Park where he was a member of the AGR fraternity. In addition, he was on the Jr. American International Charolais Association Board of Directors and was President of the Colonial Junior Charolais Association. He was also a member of the Choptank Ruritan Club.

In addition to his parents, Chad is survived by three brothers, Ben Clark of Denton and Mark and Chase Conner, both of Denton; two step sisters: Lisa Conner of Denton and Katie McClements of Dover, DE; his paternal grandmother, Lois F. Clark of Denton; his maternal grandparents: R. Donald and Jean Larrimore of Denton; his paternal great grandmother: Frieda Fuchs of Denton; his aunt, Carolyn Gleason and her husband James of Washington, DC; his uncle, Tim Larrimore and his wife Muriel of Pylesville, MD; four cousins: August Gleason, Kaitlyn Larrimore, Christian Larrimore, and Maddison Larrimore; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, James T. Clark, and his great grandfather, John A. Fuchs.

The funeral service will be 2 PM Thursday, December 23rd, at the St. Luke's United Methodist Church at 100 S. Fifth Ave. in Denton where friends may call from 11 until 2 prior to the service. The interment will be in the Denton Cemetery, 24865 Meeting House Road, Denton, MD.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests for friends to send memorial donations to the Colonial Jr. Charolais Association, C/O Eileen Kennedy, 4975 Canandaigua Farmington Twln. Rd., Canandaigua, NY 14424 or to the Caroline County Fair Board, Inc., C/O Charlotte Brown, 207 S. Third St., Denton, MD 21629.

Drummond, Irene E.

Irene E. Drummond of Denton, MD, passed away at her home on Monday, May 3, 2010.

The funeral services will be 12 PM on Tuesday, May 11th, at the St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 100 South Fifth Ave. in Denton, where friends may call from 6 until 8 on Monday evening and one hour prior to the service. The interment will be in the Spring Grove Cemetery in Denton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests for friends to send memorial donations to Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. second St. in Denton to help with funeral expenses.

Roy, Jr., Roland Lemuel

Roland L. Roy of Denton, MD, died peacefully at his home on Monday, October 25, 2010. He was 69 years old.

Born in Ann Arundel County, MD, Mr. Roy was the son of the late Roland Lemuel Roy, Sr. and Dorothy Leona Cannon Roy. He was a 1961 graduate of St. Mary's High school in Annapolis, MD.

Mr. Roy retired from the Annapolis Police Department in 1983. He moved to Denton in November, 1989. Mr. Roy, in his retirement, worked for many years with the Denton Little League on their baseball fields. In spite of many illnesses over the years, he tirelessly gave his time and energy to the youth of Caroline County. After Denton Little League, he worked for twelve years on the athletic fields of North Caroline High School near Ridgely, MD. For the past two years, he has worked on the Col. Richardson athletic fields in southern Caroline County. He was a US Army veteran, a member of the Caroline American Legion Post 29, and a member of the F.O.P.

Mr. Roy is survived by his wife, Theresa N. Roy of Denton; one son, Aaron G. Roy of Denton who is presently stationed in Germany with the US Army; an aunt, Anna Gronozik and her husband Matthew of CT; one nephew, Gerry Roy of Denton; one great niece, Heather Roy of Upper Marlboro, MD; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Roy.

A funeral service will be 7 PM Thursday evening, October 28th, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second St. in Denton where friends may call from 6 until 7 before the service. The interment will be 10 AM Friday morning in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 1911 Forest Drive in Annapolis.

The family suggests for memorial donations to be sent to the Caroline Hospice Foundation, PO Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.

Bassett, James V.

James V. Bassett of Easton, MD, formerly of Denton, MD, died Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at the William Hill Manor in Easton. He was 92 years old.

Born in Bayard, NE, on May 13, 1918, Mr. Bassett was the son of the late Roland Cyrus Bassett and Ruth Bryson Bassett. He served with the US Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. He became a Meteorologist for the Air Weather Service in Washington, D.C., retiring in 1973. In 1974, he and his wife, Louise A. Bassett of Easton, moved to their farm in Concord near Denton where for many years he sold Christmas trees. He was a member of the St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Denton.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Bassett is survived by two sons: James W. Bassett and his wife Linda of Spring Hill, FL and Thomas R. Bassett and his wife Marilyn of Columbia, SC; two grandchildren: Rebecca Maxwell and Bradley Bassett; and two great grandchildren: Chapman and Colin. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen and Margaret, and three brothers: Cecil, Sanford, and Ralph.

A memorial service was private. A committal service will be announced in the future.
