McDonald, Gary F.
Gary Francis McDonald of Choptank near Preston, MD, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at the Memorial Hospital in Easton, MD. He was 78 years old.
Born on June 11, 1931 in Choptank, Mr. McDonald was the son of the late Alexander Stevens McDonald and Mammie Viola Whitely McDonald. He had worked for C&P; Telephone in Washington, DC for thirty years. He retired in 1986 and moved back to Choptank.
Mr. McDonald was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a Past Commander of the Caroline American Legion Post 29 in Denton.
Mr. McDonald is survived by his wife, Jean A. McDonald of Silver Spring, MD; two sons: Bradley W. McDonald of Tampa, FL and Bryan W. McDonald of Lusby, MD; one daughter: Donna L. Wiscott of Temecula, CA; one brother, Gordon F. McDonald of Trappe, MD; one sister, Rose M. Hewitt of Baltimore, MD; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and one nephew, Randy Price of Choptank. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Hope M. McDonald of Sebring, FL; two brothers: Johnny McDonald and Herbert H. McDonald; and one sister, Phyllis Hitchens.
A funeral service will be 12 o'clock on Monday, April 26th, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second Street in Denton, MD where friends may visit with the family from 6 until 8 on Sunday evening. There will be an American Legion Memorial Service at 7 o'clock on Sunday evening at the funeral home. The interment will be in the Eastern Shore Veteran's Cemetery near Hurlock, MD.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests sending memorial donations to the Caroline Hospice Foundation, PO Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.
Thornton, Christopher B.
Christopher Brian Thornton of Denton, Maryland, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Delaware. He was eight years old.
Born in Easton, Maryland, on June 8, 2002, Chris was the son of Cheri and Brian Thornton of Denton.
Chris loved playing baseball, participating in Cub Scouts, swimming, riding his bike fast, fishing with his family, working in the shop, and giving his sister a hard time. Whether he was up to something or absolutely nothing, his smile would infect everyone around him.
In addition to his parents, Chris is survived by one sister, Clara Kate Thornton of Denton, MD; his paternal grandparents, Carl L. Thornton and his wife, Jillisa, of Easton, MD and Linda J. Fogg and her husband, Glenn, of Annapolis, MD; maternal grandmother, Ruth Ann B. Crouse of Denton, MD; paternal great-grandmother, Rachel Uber of Denton, MD; one aunt, Kimberly Miller and her husband, Christopher of Centreville, MD; great-uncles Raymond Berkner, Harry O. Sperling, Robert L. Uber, and Tom Thornton and his wife, Virginia; one great-aunt, Mary Anne Truscello; and cousins, Andrew and Davis Miller and Lillian and Matthew Thornton. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Daniel L. Crouse; his aunt, Amy Danielle Crouse; his paternal great-grandfather Lloyd T. Uber; and his paternal great-grandmother, Helen B. Thornton.
Funeral Services will be at 1 o'clock on Saturday, July 31st, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Fifth and Franklin Streets in Denton, where friends may call from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. on Saturday.
Interment will be in Denton Cemetery, Denton, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests for memorials to be made to the Philadelphia Shiners Hospital for Children, 3551 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19140-4131.
Frankton, Patricia A.
Patricia A. Frankton of Ridgely, MD, died Monday, August 30, 2010, at her home. She was 73 years old.
Born in Baltimore, MD on February 20, 1937, Mrs. Frankton was the daughter of the late Joseph Frank Drexler and Bertha Margaret Backhause Drexler.
Mrs. Frankton had moved to Ridgely in 1969 from Arnold, MD. She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Denton, MD.
Mrs. Frankton is survived by her husband, Roland C. Frankton of Ridgely; two sons: Mark S. Frankton of Ridgely and Matthew S. Frankton of St. Michaels, MD; one daughter, Michelle Neuwiller of Ridgely; one brother, Joseph F. Drexler, Jr. of Pasadena, MD; a sister, Mary J. Lawrence of Edgewood, MD; and two grandsons: Steven R. Frankton of Ridgely and P. Robert McNamire, Jr. of Dover, DE. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Bryan C. McNamire.
A memorial service will be 1 o'clock Thursday, September 2nd, at the Christ Episcopal Church on Gay Street in Denton, MD. The interment will be private.

Fretterd, Ellen Ingram
Ellen Ingram Fretterd, 75, fought a valiant battle against lung cancer but ultimately passed on December 3, 2010 surrounded by her devoted husband of 58 years LTG (ret) James F. Fretterd (of Federalsburg), and her adoring daughters (Laura Fretterd Patrick of Harrington and Linda Fretterd Earls of Greensboro), at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.
Born in Pike, West Virginia, Ellen was the daughter of the late Carl Roy Ingram of Cleveland, OH; and the late Hazel Midkiff of Seaford, DE. Ellen was an energetic, compassionate, driven woman with a thirst for knowledge. A graduate from Seaford High School at the age of 16, she received her AA degree from Chesapeake College and a BA degree from the former Salisbury State College, where in 1988 she was appointed by then Governor William Donald Schaefer (MD) to the first board of visitors. She served on Salisbury University's Board of Visitors and, subsequently, the Foundation Board for a total of twenty years.
A former employee of DuPont Purchasing Department in Seaford, DE for 17 years, Ellen sacrificed her career to raise her two daughters and support her husband's 53 years of service with the Maryland National Guard. Founder of the Maryland NG Family Support Program, Ellen was the recipient of the Molly Pitcher Award for support of the field artillery; she was also known as the "first lady of the Guard" for her compassion for the Fretterds' extended Guard family and friends as she attended every event, celebration, and conference right next to her husband. Always proud, elegant, yet humble, Ellen was stylish and graceful.
In addition, Ellen was very active in her beloved church, St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Denton, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, was an active member of Elizabeth Circle, and continually made creative contributions such as annually decorating the Holy Cross for Easter, making crismons for the Christmas tree, sewing and designing the stoles for the ministers, and crafting a bookmark for every pew Bible and hymnal.
A Girl Scout Troop Leader, active member of the PTA at Denton Elementary School, and devoted friend to all who knew her, Ellen loved to paint, sing, crochet, sew, read, attend plays, and, most of all, play with and care for her beloved grandchildren: Amber Patrick (12), Ryan Patrick (10), Ryan Earls (18), and Morgan Earls (5). She will be dearly missed by her surviving siblings: Roy Ingram of Seaford, DE; Virginia Albert of Salisbury, MD; and Ida Marroni of Odessa, DE.
A viewing will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Denton, MD from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8. Funeral services will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Denton, MD on Thursday, December 9 at 11 a.m. Friends and family may call at the church an hour before the service. The Rev. Ray F. Graham will officiate, assisted by Chaplain (ret.) Rev. Donald Reynolds. Interment will be at the Bloomery Cemetery in Federalsburg. Moore's Funeral Home in Denton will be coordinating all services. Ellen's six cousins: Alan, Jeffrey, Glenn, Michael, Matthew, and Joseph Bailey of Delaware will serve as pallbearers.
Lunch, to be catered by the Market Street Public House, will be served at the Fellowship Hall of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Denton following the services.

Riggs, Clara Amelia
Clara Amelia Goraczkowski Riggs of Denton, MD, formerly of Inwood, WVA, died Friday, December 3, 2010, at the Homestead Manor in Denton. She was 87 years old.
Born on May 26, 1923, Mrs. Riggs was the only daughter of the late Joseph Frank Goraczkowski and Victoria Hattie Korolawski Goraczkowski.of Swea City, Iowa. Mrs. Riggs graduated from the Swea City High School in 1941. She attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa from 1942 to 1943 and was employed by the Stern Finance Co. in Des Moines until she enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June of 1944. She was a Telegrapher 3rd Class with the WAVES at the Communications Annex in Washington, D.C. until November 1945. She retired as a secretary in 1990 after 23 years with the Quanta Systems Corporation in Gaithersburg, MD.
Along with her husband, Mrs. Riggs was a volunteer with the Meals-On-Wheels for several years in Inwood, WVA. She and her husband loved to travel and visited all 48 continental states and Alaska. In her later years, she was an avid reader. She was a member of AARP and WAVES National. She also attended the Inwood United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Riggs is survived by two daughters: Cindy James and her husband Robert of Denton, MD and Judith Jennings and her husband Ron of Fredericksburg, VA; one son, Thomas Riggs and his wife Sherrie of Gaithersburg, MD; one daughter-in-law, Janet Riggs of Damascus, MD; one brother, Roy James of Omaha, Nebraska; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. In 1995, Mrs. Riggs was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Meredith E. Riggs, one son, Randall M. Riggs, in 1993, a daughter, Vicki Booher, in 2003, and seven brothers: Stanley, Walter, Sylvester, David, Peter, Clarence, and Paul Goracykowski.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Tuesday, December 7th, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. second St., Denton, MD 21629 where friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown, WVA at the convenience of the family.

Edwards, Carolton A.
Carlton A. Edwards of Denton, MD, formerly of Wilmington, DE, died Sunday, August 8, 2010, at the Memorial Hospital in Easton, MD. He was 75 years old.
Born in Dover, DE on January 16, 1935, Mr. Edwards was the son of the late Willoughby Edwards and Alma Thompson Edwards. He grew-up in Greensboro, MD and graduated from Greensboro High School.
Mr. Edwards graduated from Goldie Beacom College and worked for EI DuPont. From 1959 until 1985, he worked for the Wilmington Savings Fund Society where he became the Auditor and Assistant Treasurer and was involved with their data processing. He became the manager of the Newark, DE branch before retiring in 1985. After retirement, he worked for Air Base Carpet Mart in Dover for 10 years. He is a member of the Greensboro Baptist Church is a past member of the Newark Rotary Club.
Mr. Edwards is survived by one daughter, Nancy C. Edwards of Wilmington, DE; two sons: Mark W. Edwards of Wilmington, DE and David C. Edwards and his wife Angie and their daughter (Mr. Edward's granddaughter) Sophie of Darlington, SC; a sister-in-law, Joyce F. Edwards of Preston, MD; and a nephew, Donald O. Edwards and his wife Diane of Preston, MD and their children: Ryan Edwards, Jason Edwards, Joseph Edwards, Megan Starcevic and Ryan Starcevic. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Elmer W. Edwards and Harold A. Edwards.
Funeral services will be 11 am Thursday, August 12th, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second Street in Denton where friends may call from 6 until 8 on Wednesday evening. The interment will be in the Greensboro Cemetery in Greensboro, MD.
