Sadler, John Everett

Mardela Springs, MD - John Everett Sadler, age 86, died Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. Born in Durhing, West Virginia he was the son of the late Raleigh William Sadler and Betty Varney Sadler. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Hale Sadler in 1996. He is survived by his three sons John Eugene Sadler of Parsonsburg, Raleigh William Sadler and Larry Lee Sadler both of Berlin, and two daughters Marie Elizabeth Dickson of Berlin and Verona Mae Williams of Mardela Springs, MD. There are 5 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother William Sadler of Personsburg and a sister Joyce Barrett of Richlands, N.C., and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sadler was a retired farmer and poultry grower. He had formerly worked at J.W. Shockley and Sons in Whiton, MD.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 2, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Rev. Brent Brady will officiate. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Libertytown. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21801.

Cain, Elva N.

Elva Natalie Presberry Cain was born April 30, 1915 to the late Kenton and Dora Presberry in Darlington, Maryland. She entered into glory on Saturday, July 5, 2008, at the Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center in Havre de Grace, Maryland. She was 93.

Mrs. Cain was married to Edward Hayes Cain. He preceded her in death on January 22. 1990.

Mrs. Cain attended the Hosanna School during her elementary years. After graduating from Hosanna, she went to Baltimore City in order to attend Booker T. Washington Jr. High School and Frederick Douglass High School. Continuing in her father's footsteps, she attended Bowie Normal School and became certified to teach in 1937.

Upon returning to Harford County, she taught in Baltimore County until she received a permanent position at a one-room school, teaching 7 grades in Cedars, Maryland. Spent seven years at this school before completing her final years of teaching at Hosanna Elementary School during the 1945-46 school year.

Mrs. Cain was very active in Hosanna AM.E. Church. She served as Church Secretary for 27 years; she was also, secretary of the Missionary and Ushering Boards for 50 years. Her dedication to church activities was demonstrated by a commitment to serve as recording secretary for the Interdenominational Church Ushers Association of Maryland, Inc., She also served on the Steward Board.

Elva enjoyed reading her Bible, which she read every day until her health failed. She liked to write poems, draw and needle work.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three step-children Dorothy C. Collins (Edgar), Lloyd E. Cain (Frances), Aberdeen, Maryland, Bernice R. Culpepper, Baltimore, Maryland; eight step-grandchildren, Joan Warfield (Solmon), Aberdeen, Maryland, Mildred Martin (Jerry), Aberdeen, Maryland, Donald E. Cain, Aberdeen, Maryland, Darnell Stewart, Joppatown, . Maryland, Anthony W. Collins Washington, DC, Kyle Culpepper (Martha), Gaithersburg, Maryland, Rodney Culpepper (Annette), Severn, Maryland, Angela E. Collins, Aberdeen, Maryland; two sisters: Minnie Bowles, Sandy Springs, Maryland, Zilpha P. Thomas (William), Monkton, Maryland; two nieces: Zilpha P. Smith (Cornelius), Aberdeen, Maryland, Veronica Marshall, Bladensburg, Maryland; two nephews, Russell M. Presberry (Shirley), Darlington, Maryland, Leonard Presberry, Edgewood, Maryland; a devoted cousin, Clara Montaque, Chicago, IL.; one sister-in-law, Agnes E. Presberry, Darlington, Maryland; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by two brothers: Earl O. Presberry and Russell Presberry.

Service will be held at 12 noon. on Wednesday July 9, 2008 at Hosanna A.M.E. Church, 2418 Castleton Road, Darlington, Maryland where friends may call starting at10 a.m. Burial will be in Berkley Cemetery, Darlington, Maryland.

Jackson, Nicole Deneane

NICOLE DENEANE JACKSON (Nikki) of Havre de Grace, MD departed this life Friday June 1, 2007 at Stella Maris Hospice, Timonium, MD. She was born October 26, 1975 at Harford Memorial Hospital, Havre de Grace, MD to Aleko Jackson and Agnes (Martin) Mosley.

Nikki was a very loving, kind and outgoing person. Although Nikki was born deaf she loved to dance, travel and loved all people, she never let her 'deafness' get in the way of living her life. She attended the Maryland School for the deaf and graduated in 1994. Nikki lived in California, Ohio and Baltimore before returning back to Havre de Grace.

She loved living in the City because there was so much to do and learn. Nikki would fly, drive or take a train to visit family and friends. Nikki was very independent and loved working and paying her own way. She worked at Saks 5th Avenue, Rite Aid and McDonalds until the doctors told her that she was too ill to work any longer. Nikki was very special to our family and we all loved and cherished her and she will be dearly missed.

Nikki is survived by her mother, Agnes Mosley, father, Aleko Jackson, Step-father Michael Mosley, grandmother Esther Martin, Sister, Bridgette Johnson, Brother-in-law, Eric Johnson, niece, Bria Robinson and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 6:45 p.m. at the Lisa Scott Funeral Home, P.A., 552 Lewis Street, Havre de Grace, MD where family and friends are welcome to greet the family starting at 6 p.m. Interment will be private.

Jackson, Louise Wooters

Louise May Wooters Jackson of Preston, MD, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton, MD. She was 73.

She was born May 16, 1931 in Williston, MD, the daughter of the late Carroll Devon Wooters, Sr. and Gladys Elizabeth "Bessie" Orlowski Wooters.

She was a graduate of Preston High School Class of 1950 and had retired from E.I. DuPont in Seaford, DE after 33 years of service. She was a member of the Women's Bowling League at E.I. DuPont, and was a past member of Seaford Golf and Country Club. She was a devoted member of Holy Child in Bethlehem, MD. She was a devoted aunt to her nieces and nephew, enjoyed traveling and took pride in her home.

She is survived by her husband, Robert H. Jackson, a brother, David Eugene Wooters, Sr. of Bethlehem, one nephew and four nieces and their children. Two sisters, Gladys Elizabeth Wooters, and Marian Dorothy Wooters, and a brother, Carroll Devon "Jute" Wooters, Jr., preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 7, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg with Rev. Glenn Staehli officiating. Interment will follow in Junior Order Cemetery in Preston, MD. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. A prayer of blessing will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. with Father John Harrison. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Preston Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 83, Preston, MD 21655.

Abbott, Elihu S.

Elihu Samuel Abbott, 79, of Crapo passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was born in Robbins on July 14, 1929 and was the son of the late Arthur T. and Inez North Abbott.

Elihu attended schools at Robbins, Crapo and in Cambridge. On October 31, 1950 he married the former Doris Parks. Elihu was a avid father and outdoors man who enjoyed hunting, camping, trapping and fishing with his family and friends. He worked mainly as a waterman and a heavy equipment operator most of his life although, he held many other positions from a FRA with the University of Chicago, Mate on the Maryland Governors Yacht, Explosives Tech, Salvage diver, Gunsmith and a Barber. He won the worlds Muskrat skinning Championship eight times and was credited with developing the modern two cut method of skinning. Elihu served 30 years with the Maryland National Guard 29th Division. He was Past Master of Cambridge Lodge #66 A.F. and A.M. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife the former Doris M. Parks of Robbins, his children Bruce Abbott and wife Kathy of Taylors Island, Brenda Holotik of Linkwood, Sheila Jones of Church Creek and Elihu Abbott Jr. and wife Robin of Town Point, grandchildren Tori, Cheyenne and Dakota Abbott, Helen Foxwell, Tara Holotik, Lucas Jones, Mindy Jones, Jeremiah and Colt Abbott, great grandchildren Macy and Maddie Foxwell, Thomas and Samuel Holotik, Liam and Elise Jones and Nevaeh Cannon and a brother Theodore Abbott.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Bounds United Methodist Church in Robbins, MD. Burial will follow at Sandy Island Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Memorial Contributions to Bounds United Methodist Church c/o Alma Robbins, 3155 Robbins Rd., Crapo Md. 21626. Pallbearers will be Richard Dawson, Wayne Simmons, Payton Hurley, Rudy Robbins, Lucas Jones and Jeremiah Abbott.

Insley, Thelma B.

Thelma R. Insley, 86, of Taylors Island passed away on Monday, January 17, 2011 at her home. Services were held privately on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Lorraine Park Cemetery in Baltimore. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Dorchester, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Baker, Norma P.

Norma P. Baker, 92, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at William Hill Manor in Easton. She was born in Salisbury on October 6, 1918 and was a daughter of the late Norman U. and Olive Bassett Perdue.

Mrs. Baker attended schools in Wicomico County. She worked with her husband at Nuttles Lumber Company but mainly she was a housewife and mother. On May 22, 1937 she married Paul D. Baker. He passed away on February 13, 2003. Mrs. Baker was a member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She belonged to the Womens Methodist Christian Association. She also belonged to the Mizpah Bible Class and was very active in the church.

She is survived by a daughter Bonnie Keplinger and husband Tom of Hurlock, four grandchildren William W. Thomas III of Alexandria, VA, Terri Lee Thomas of Salisbury, Ben Keplinger of California and Patti Newberry of Delaware, 8 great grandchildren Hillary Hastings, Phann White, Peter Mom, Rachel Newberry, Nathan Keplinger, Joshua Keplinger, Julia Keplinger and Bethany Keplinger and two great great grandchildren Abigail White and Marcus Ken. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Baker is preceded in death by a sister Gloria Collins.

Pallbearers will be William Thomas III, Terri Thomas, Randall Bradshaw, Harold Carr, Fred Redmer and Hugh Vinson.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Pauls United Methodist Church, c/o Scott Daniels, 205 Maryland Avenue, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Bassett, James V.

James V. Bassett of Easton, MD, formerly of Denton, MD, died Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at the William Hill Manor in Easton. He was 92 years old.

Born in Bayard, NE, on May 13, 1918, Mr. Bassett was the son of the late Roland Cyrus Bassett and Ruth Bryson Bassett. He served with the US Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. He became a Meteorologist for the Air Weather Service in Washington, D.C., retiring in 1973. In 1974, he and his wife, Louise A. Bassett of Easton, moved to their farm in Concord near Denton where for many years he sold Christmas trees. He was a member of the St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Denton.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Bassett is survived by two sons: James W. Bassett and his wife Linda of Spring Hill, FL and Thomas R. Bassett and his wife Marilyn of Columbia, SC; two grandchildren: Rebecca Maxwell and Bradley Bassett; and two great grandchildren: Chapman and Colin. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen and Margaret, and three brothers: Cecil, Sanford, and Ralph.

A memorial service was private. A committal service will be announced in the future.

Newman, Arthur Hames

Arthur Hames Newman, 88, of Cape May Court House, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011 at Our Lady's Residence in Pleasantville. He was born in Philadelphia and was a longtime resident of Cape May Court House. A Coast Guard Veteran of World War II, he was formerly employed at SuperFresh. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church and was active in any way that he could help. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and a Friend of the Secular Franciscan Order.

Mr. Newman in survived by his sister Mary Ames of California; and many nieces and nephews including Lois Morrison of Villas.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 35 East Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House, where visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Cold Spring. Memorial donations may be made to the Maryland Province Jesuits Fund (MPJF), P.O. Box 64818, Baltimore, MD 21264 or to the family to assist with burial fund.
