Paige, Karen L.

Fruitland - Karen L. Paige, 40, of Fruitland died Friday, January 19, 2001 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Baltimore on January 18, 1961 she was the daughter of Charles C. Knight and the late Kay Smith Knight. Karen was a homemaker. In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband James E. Paige of Fruitland; two brothers, Brian R. Knight and his wife Terre of Portland, OR, and Robert B. Knight of Eden, MD; one sister, Janice L. Weigman and her husband Dennis of Greensboro, NC; one niece, Sidnee Knight of Portland, OR and three nephews, Nicholas Knight of Eden, Dennis Weigman II ans Shawn Weigman both of Greensboro, NC. The staff of the Bounds Funeral Home in Salisbury is handling the arrangements.

Kovacs, Stella T.

Kovacs, Stella T., 59, of Cape May Court House, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011. Born in Philadelphia, she moved to the Villas when she was 12. She later worked as a nurse's aide for various nursing homes and waitressed at the Lobster House. She was predeceased by her husband Francis, her mother Rose Lare and stepfather John Lare.

She is survived by her son Frank of Little Falls; her brothers Frank (Elaine) Schmidt of PA and John (Debbie) Lare of Rio Grande; her sisters Maryann Layton of Villas, Barbara (Bill) Smith of Green Creek, and Laura Kelly of Florida; her granddaughters Kayla and Kylie Kovacs; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Ave., Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in South Dennis. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1060 North Kings Highway, Suite 309, Cherry Hill, NJ 08304.

Hanks, Jr., William H.

William H. Hanks, Jr., a longtime resident of his beloved Maryland Eastern Shore, passed away at home in the morning hours of the 20th of January 2011 after a battle with cancer.

Bill was born on the 2nd of July 1943 in Wilmington Delaware, the son of the late Dr. William Hanks and Kathleen Phillips Hanks. He attended high school in Cambridge, MD, graduated from Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania in 1961, then began his higher education at Wesley College in 1965, attended University of VA for one year and graduated from John Hopkins University in 1967. Bill served in the U.S. Navy from 1968-72. His interest in aviation led him to Emery Riddle Aeronautical Institute where he attained his pilot's license in 78'. The following year, Bill returned to Maryland's Eastern Shore and founded Patamoke Stove Works. His love of the outdoors and nature was a lifelong passion; he enjoyed riding motorcycles, restoring vintage sports cars, and traveling. Bill is survived by his loving family and friends. Arrangements were in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

Schwartz, Frances D.

Schwartz, Frances D. - born November 8, 1925 passed away January 21, 2011 at her home. Formerly of South Philadelphia, she resided in North Wildwood with her loving husband of 68 years, Buddy (deceased). She was the amazing mother of Eileen Simone (John) of Absecon, the late John Schwartz (Norma), Frances Kircher (Paul) of Gibbstown, Robert (Valerie) of Woodbury, Danny of Reno, NV, and Brian of North Wildwood. Also mourning the loss of their Mom Mom are her 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is fondly remembered by her sisters Irene Hankins and Evelyn Lampe of Philadelphia as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be announced at a later date.

Witherspoon, Sclena "Sug"

Sclena Parson Durham Witherspoon was born on March 29, 1924 to the late Norman and Goldie Parson of Havre de Grace, Maryland. She was the eldest of five children. She was fondly called Sug, by family and friends.

Sclena entered eternal life on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Citizens Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Havre de Grace, Maryland. Sclena was preceded in death by her brother Pennycoe Parson and a sister Mary Galloway.

At an early age she joined St. Matthew A.U.M.P. Church. Sclena remained active until her health started to decline. Her church family called her Mother Witherspoon. She was a member of the choir, served on the Usher Board and served on several committee's. She sang with the United Choral Ensemble. Sclena was a also a member of the Evening Star Chapter #20/OES. Sclena loved to cook and enjoyed entertaining family and friends, she had a wonderful personality that could light up a room.

Sclena was educated in the Harford County Public School System. She demonstrated her culinary talents at Harford County School and Bayou Restaurant. She later worked as a Nursing Assistant providing comfort to many with her kind caring heart.

Sclena married Richard Durham and later in life she married William C. Witherspoon, who preceded her in death. Sclena was the mother of eight children. Three children preceded her death. Carouso Durham, Mary Walton (George) and Catherine Clayton (Larry).

Sclena was the matriarch of the family. Sclena was a loving daughter, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and a friend to all.

She leaves to mourn three daughters, Diana Heath (James) of New York, Mildred Durham of Baltimore, Maryland and Tryvinnia of Havre de Grace, Maryland, two sons Norman Whittington of Randallstown, Maryland and Roscoe Durham (Elmira) of Fallston, Maryland. Twenty-five grandchildren, thirty -five great grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends. Many thanks to Gloria Lee Smith, her adopted daughter.

Visitation will be Saturday January 22, 2011, 10a.m.-12p.m.with funeral starting 12 p.m. at St. Matthew A.U.M.P. Church, 563 Revolution Street, Havre de Grace, MD. Burial will be in St. James United Cemetery, Havre de Grace, MD.

Wilson, Inez I.

Inez Wilson affectionately known as "Nettie" was the 2nd daughter born to the union of the late Calvin and Cleo Irving on January 8, 1941. She departed this life on January 18, 2011.

She was religiously trained at Progressive Baptist Church pastored by the Late Dr. Murphy W. McCalb where she accepted Christ at an early age and was involved in the Jr. and Youth choirs.

Nettie graduate from Booker T. Washington High School in 1959 and from there attended Dillard University of LA.

In 1961 she married the late John L. Tobias, Sr. (Johnny) and from that union came 2 children John Jr. and Nedra. In 1966 Nettie moved to California where she settled in the San Francisco, CA where she met and married MacAuthur Wilson and from that union came 1 son Eric.

For 18 years Nettie was an employee of the United States Post Office until she retired in 1988 after which she relocated back to New Orleans, LA and immediately made 1st African Baptist Church ministered by the late Reverend E. Darnell Jones, DD her church home.

With the devastation of Hurricane Katrina she relocated to Belcamp, MD with her daughter and her family where she found an outpouring of love and support from her family at New Hope Baptist Church ministered by Reverend Mark R, Nolan, Pastor.

Set to retire from Xavier University of LA in January 2006 Nettie's retirement was hastened by the trying times immediately following Hurricane Katrina.

With the support of family, friends and church family Nettie set out to rebuild her life settling in the town of Bel Air, MD where she lived until her home going.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband MacAuthur Wilson; 1 daughter Nedra Tobias-Lyons, 2 sons John Tobias, Jr. and Eric Wilson; 1 devoted son-in law Karl A. Lyons and 1 daughter-in-law Lavita Hill-Wilson; 1 loyal sister Joyce (Tedo) Noel; 4 grandchildren Erica Wilson, Kambrell Lyons, (Kami) Karl Lyons, Jr., (KJ) and Eric Wilson Jr.; devoted cousins, Adrienne Harrell, Jackie Augustine, Marie Williams and Angela Hall; a beloved cousin affectionately known by Nettie as Niece Kristel Tross; and a host of other family and friends.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held Tuesday January 25, 2011, 10a.m.-11a.m.with funeral starting 11 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 116 Alice Ann Street, Bel Air, MD. Upon Inez's request she will be cremated.

Hanks, Jr., William H.

Navy

Abbott, Jessie Mae

JESSIE MAE ABBOTT, 73, of Crisfield, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at her home.

Born in Crisfield May 17, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Albert James and Rhea Jeanette Sterling Rich.

She was a former employee of Handy's and Mrs. Paul's Kitchens.

She was a member of the Evangelical Wesleyan Church in Crisfield, which she loved.

A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, she is survived by her husband of almost 55 years, Harold Frederick Abbott of Crisfield; three sons, Kenneth James Abbott of Smyrna, Delaware, Richard Raymond Abbott, Sr. and wife Linda, of Crisfield and David William Ellis Abbott and wife Denise of Crisfield; one sister, Evelyn Joyce Blades of Middle River; four grandchildren, Crystal Lynne Abbott, Ashleigh Marie Abbott, Richard Raymond Abbott, Jr. and Jennifer Louise Hanback; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Renee Downes, Caleb Thomas Downes, Emilee Jade Smith and Kaiden William Abbott; niece and nephews, Janice Bales, Rick Blades, Larry Blades and Edward Parkinson; and a host of friends.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Joyce Abbott; and a brother, James Edward Rich.

Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Terry Riggin will be held Friday, May 29, 2009 at 2 PM at the Evangelical Wesleyan Church in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. Interment will follow in the Rich Family Cemetery in Crisfield.
