ROBERT (BOB) HOWARD
Robert (Bob) Howard, 86, life long resident and farmer of Marlette, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Lapeer Regional Hospital in Lapeer, Michigan.
He was born March 19, 1922 in Marlette, son to the late Floyd and Mildred (Cooper) Howard.

Mr. Howard married M. Veta Hildinger on October 2, 1943 in Snover, Michigan, she has preceded him in death on April 30, 1983.

He enjoyed fishing, taking country drives, morning coffee with friends at the Burger Hut and, most of all, his family.

He is survived by daughters, Leslie Howard of Marlette and Kate (Steve) Joy of Fostoria; sister, Grace Allan of Plattsburgh, NY; one niece and seven nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and brother, Renald.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette.

Burial will be in the Marlette cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the donation of your choice.

Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 1pm to 9pm at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette.

EILEEN ALICE VAN TINE
Eileen Alice Van Tine, 93, of Marlette, passed away Friday, July 18, 2008 at St. Marys Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan.
She was born March 2, 1915 in Flynn Township, Marlette, Michigan the daughter of the late Martin and Hattie (Able) Woods.

She was a lifelong area resident, a 1932 graduate of Brown City High School and a member of the Marlette First United Methodist Church.

She married Milo Charles Van Tine on June 12, 1937 in Plymouth, MI. He died on March 28, 1976.

She loved playing her keyboard.

She is survived by Raymond Van Tine (son) of Oxford, Joanne and Phillip Girard (daughter) of Westland, Clayton and Georgia Van Tine (son) of North Branch, Cheryl and Ron Stinson (daughter) of Arizona, Linda Van Tine (daughter) of Arizona, 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and Sylvia Harp (sister) of Silverwood.

Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son Ronald Van Tine in 2007.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Rev. Daniel Bowman officiating.

Burial was in the Marlette cemetery in Marlette.

Memorial suggestions to the Marlette Food Bank.

ROBERT E. KIENITZ
Robert E. Kienitz, 57, of Clifford, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008.
He was born May 23, 1951 in Flint, son to Herman and Betty (Nelson) Kienitz.

Mr. Kienitz served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp and U.S. Army.

He married Tina Seibert on July 28, 1978 in Clifford.

He was a self employed carpenter and member of the VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Tina; his mother, Betty Kline of Clifford; his sons, Kenny Kienitz of Marlette and Chris Kienitz of California; his daughter, Candy and Dan Albertson of Clifford; his brothers, Russell and Debbie Kienitz of Reed City and Robert Kienitz of Clifford; his sister, Diane Gilmore of Eolia ,MO; his step-brothers, Michael Parker of Fairborne, OH, Richard and Daniel Parker of Reed City; his step-sister, Pamela Parker Remus of Reed City; grandchildren Emma and Brian Albertson of Clifford and four step-brothers.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Cremation will take place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City.

A memorial service was conducted on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette.

Memorials may be donated to the family.

WILLARD S. (WOODY) SMITH
Willard S. (Woody) Smith, 69, of Marlette, died Monday, June 23, 2008 at Hannah Wolfe Retirement Residence in Marlette.
Mr. Smith lived in the Snover area since 1972 and was previously from Hadley, MI.

He was born January 6, 1939 in Flint, son of the late Carr and Frances (Upcraft) Smith.

He graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 1957 and attended M.S.U.

He married Geraldine R. Ellard on September 17, 1960 at M.S.U. campus.

He was a dairy and swine farmer for many years and owner of Marlette Town & Country since 1996.

He was a member of the Marlette First United Methodist Church and Sanilac Co. F.B.

He was a 4-H leader & Sweetstakes Superintendent and also served on the McDonald Dairy Board for 4 years.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Ruth (Ellard) Harlingen,TX; daughter, Katherine (Curtis) Castillo of Clarkston: sons, Robert (Susan) Smith of Snover and Michael Smith of Marlette; brother, Richard Smith of Grand Blanc; maternal uncle, Howard (Audrey) Upcraft of Florida; grandchildren, William, Melissa, Stephanie, Sarah, Cheryl, Lee and Derek; great grandson, Login Carr Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Marlette First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Daniel Bowman officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 10 a.m. until the time of Memorial service at the Church.

Memorials may be donated to the American Institute Cancer for Research, United Hospice Service or Marlette First United Methodist Church.

HELEN L. BABICH
Helen L. Babich, 84, Marlette passed away Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Marlette Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Babich has lived in Marlette since 2000 and was previously from the Manton area.

She was born May 27, 1924 in Pontiac, daughter to the late Osro and Hazel (Wilson) Tallman.

She married Joseph Babich Jr. on November 29, 1941 in Deford, he preceded her in death on April 25, 2001.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Manton and the Marlette First United Methodist Church.

She was also a member of the Rebecca Lodge in Manton and the Manton Snow Devils Snowmobiling Club.

She enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, friends and most of all, her family.

She is survived by son, Ken and Ruth Babich of Marlette; brothers, Andrew and Jessie Tallman of Fife Lake, Bruce and Linda Tallman of Caro and Hiram Tallman of Fife Lake; sister, Winnie and Dale Bridson of Fife Lake; grandchildren, John and Dotty Babich of Auburn, Damian and Candy Babich of Kalkaska and Tiffany Steffen of Dayton, Ky; great grandchildren, Micaela, Andrew, Sarah, Samantha Jo and Nathan, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, D. Douglas (Butch) Babich; infant daughter, Lora Babich; infant brother, Marvin; brother, Kenneth and sisters, Dorothy, Grace, Marian and Irene.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with Rev. John R. Allan officiating.

Burial will be in the Novesta cemetery in Cass City.

Honorary casket bearers are John, Damian, Gene, Bernard, Andrew and Nathan Babich, Andrew and Bruce Tallman.

Memorials may be donated to Manton High School, Marlette Regional Hospital Extended Care Facility or the memorial of your choice.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday 4pm to 9pm at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette.

MARY ANN HILL
Mary Ann Hill, 66, life long resident of Marlette, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 26, 2008.
She was born July 19, 1941 in Marlette, daughter to the late Merril and Beatrice (Hazen) Foster.

She graduated from Marlette High School in 1959 and received her L.P.N. degree from S.C.C.C.

She married Jack Hill on October 19, 1988 in Marlette.

Mrs. Hill worked 20 years at Marlette Community Hospital has a L.P.N. and 13 years for Dr. Cripps.

She was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Marlette.

She enjoyed volunteer work at the Octagon Barn in Gagetown, camping, knitting, sewing, carpentry & plumbing work and ,most of all, her family.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Hill of Marlette; William and Deborah Romosier (son) and Michael Romosier (son) of Marlette; Amanda and Heath Hughes (step-daughter) of Sandusky; Jay Hill (step -son) of Applegate; Lyle and Chris Foster (brother) of Marlette; Marilyn & Dr. Dale Lick (sister) of Tallahassee, FL; Jim and Ruth Foster (brother) of Marlette; Robert and Starr Foster (brother) of Marlette; Eric and Bonnie Foster (brother) of Marlette; Max and Diane Foster (brother) of Marlette; Jean and Dr. Alex Rutven (sister) of Smiths Creek; Charyn and Charles Walker (sister) of Bradenton, FL; Bev and Richard Rockwell (sister) of Fort Gratiot; Beulah Foster (step mother) of Marlette; 5 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 30, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with Elder Dennis Herbert officiating.

Burial was in the Marlette cemetery.

Memorials may be donated to the Community of Christ Church or United Hospice Service.
