ARLENE A. JONES
Arlene A. Jones of Luzerne, MI passed away Saturday, August 5, 2006 at the Bortz Health Care of Rose City, MI at the age of 78.
She was born April 23, 1928 in Jamestown, NY to the late J. Clark and Annie Lowrey Wiltsie. She graduated in June 1946 from Frewsburg High School, Frewsburg, NY. She worked and retired from Marlette Homes, Marlette, MI. In later years, she and her husband, Delton (Boney) Jones of Luzerne who survives her, owned and operated the D&A; Service Station in Luzerne. She was a member of the Moose Lodge #1035 in Mio. She also enjoyed her many trips to the casino.

In addition to her husband she is survived by three sons, Lawrence (Elsie) Schott of Clifford, MI; Robert (Judy) Schott of Marlette, MI; William (Susan) Schott of Sandusky, MI; two brothers Raymond (Barbara) Wiltsie of Frewsburg, NY; Herbert (Gloria) Wiltsie of Tunkhannock, PA; three sisters Romayne (Robert) Long and Dorothy (William) Waite of Frewsburg, NY; Margaret (Bill) Bullock of N. Warren, PA; and one sister-in-law Beverly Wiltsie of Frewsburg, NY. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons Gerald and Steven Schott, a grand daughter Kimberly Schott and a brother Clarence Wiltsie.

Funeral services were conducted by Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home, Inc., 109 E. Houghton Ave.,West Branch, MI 48661.

SCOTT MARSHALL STIELER
Scott Marshall Stieler was born in Berkley, Michigan on December 9, 1918. He passed in the home of his sister Sally (Stieler) Winsen on Oak Park Michigan on August 6, 2006. He was a graduate in tool and die making from the Ford Trade School, a licensed Master Plumber, and veteran of WW11, having served as a machinist at Pearl Harbor.
Marlette was one of two places that he thought of as his home town, maintaining ties with friends and family since he first made his home here in 1953. For ten years he served as Chief of Maintenance in the Marlette Hospital, where he was responsible for several innovative improvements in efficiency of operation and patient care and comfort. He moved his family to California in 1963 but returned to Marlette in 1972 when he went to work for his brother, Bill Stieler at Quality House Draperies as the Plant Manager. Again he used his technical knowledge and skills to improve production systems. He had several patented and unpatented innovations to his credit. He retired in 1983 and moved to Royal Oak, Michigan to live with his sister Alice, where he set up a workshop and continued to invent. He never stopped inventing and improving. A week before his passing, at his insistence he was literally carried back to Marlette for his brother Bill’s 90th birthday party at the home of his nephew, David Stieler. As he was driven through town, he smiled at his memories.

He is survived by his son, Dale Stieler and wife, Frannie; daughter Kathy Taylor; granddaughters, Tina Stieler and Donna (Stieler) Cowper and husband Lance; grandsons, Brian Holdaway and wife Brandy, David Taylor, and Marshall Stieler (son of Paul Stieler, deceased); and great grandchildren, Amanda and Buddy Holdaway, Thomas Taylor, and Cole Cowper. He also leaves behind his remaining brothers, Bill and Fritz Stieler and sisters, Betty (Stieler) Roth, Donna (Stieler) Bennett, and Sally (Stieler) Winsen.

L. MARIE RUSSELL
L. Marie Russell, 94, of Snover, passed away Friday, July 28, 2006 in Lansing.
She was born April 17, 1912 in Marlette, daughter to the late Elijah and Iva (Smith) Ronald.

She was a 1929 graduate of Marlette High School and also attended C.M.U. for two years.

She married Everett Russell on May 28, 1938 in Marlette. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1990.

She was the oldest member of the Marlette First United Methodist Church where she was very active.

She belonged to the Philomathian Club, Marlette Community Hospital Lady’s Auxiliary and Sanilac Extension Club.

She enjoyed gardening, music, her flowers and, most of all, her family. She is survived by son, Bill and Sandy Russell of Mason, MI; daughter, Sharon and Roger Tyyska of Goodrich, MI; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Effie Stamp.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 31, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Marlette United Methodist Church, with Pastor Daniel Bowman officiating.

Burial was at the Marlette cemetery in Marlette.

Memorials may be donated to the Marlette First United Methodist Church.

PHYLLIS A. REID
Phyllis A. Reid, 70, of Marlette, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at the Covenant Medical Center - Cooper in Saginaw, Michigan.
She lived in the Flynn Twp. area since 1964.

She was bon February 8, 1936 in Brown City, Michigan, daughter to the late William and Laura (Franzel) Davis.

She married Roger Reid on August 28, 1954 in Port Sanilac, Michigan. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1998.

She worked for Hamills Manufacturing in Imlay City and T.R.W. in Washington. She enjoyed flowers, playing cards and family gatherings.

She is survived by two sons, Rod and Chris Reid of Marlette, MI, and Roger Reid of Imlay City, MI; five daughters, Suzanne and Jerry Hill of Attica, MI, Marilyn Davis of Deckerville, MI, Jane and Floyd Holdwick of Ruth, MI, Debbie and Daniel Thorman of Lake Port, MI and Kelly French of Marlette; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three brothers and seven sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers and four sister.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, August 5, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at the Goodnews Assembly of God in Marlette, with Pastor Douglas Richardson officiating.

Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery in Brown City.

Memorials may be donated to the family.

RICHARD LEROY MATHEWS
Richard Leroy Mathews, 63, Zephyrhills, Florida passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
He was born on May 30, 1943 in Marlette, MI, the son of the late James Arthur Mathews and Elsie (Chisholm) Mathews.

He attended Marlette Community School, and Marlette High School in May of 1961. Upon graduation, he joined the Air Force and served as a hydraulic engineer from 1961 to 1966. He also served in the U.S. Navy. Later, he joined the Air Force reserves in Sacramento, CA. Upon his retirement, he moved to Zephyrhills in 1997.

He is survived by a daughter, Kimberly (Dave) Wroth, Lake Tahoe, CA; two sisters, Betty (Irwin) Isanhart, Zephyrhills and Anna (John) Lapeer, Decker, MI; and three grandchildren, Carson Wroth, Richie Wroth and Robert Wroth in addition to many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Mathews and James E. Mathews.

A Memorial Service was conducted on Wednesday, August 2 at Hodges Family Funeral Home in Zephyrhills, Florida at 3 p.m. with Pastor Dean Walter from Faith Baptist officiating with Military Honors by MacDill AF.

JAMES BUONO
James Buono, 86, of Silverwood, passed away Friday, August 4, 2006 at his residence.
He was born on May 18, 1920 in Harrison County, West Virginia, the son of Domenic and Christina (Scotti) Buono.

On June 1, 1951, he married Maria Fantin in Canada. He retired from Pontiac GMC Truck and Coach June 1, 1982 with 30 years of service and he was also a lifetime farmer. He was a member of Local 594, and enjoyed hunting, dancing and family gatherings.

Left to cherish his memory are wife, Maria; daughter, Rose (Mike) Benedict of Kingston; sons, Glen (fiancee, Susan Wszelaki) of Metamora, Richard (Marlene) of Clifford and Ronald (Denise) of Arizona; sister, Faye (Wayne) Rappuhn of Clifford; brother, Augustine (Hilda) of Dearborn, six Grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Frank Aniello, Jim, and Joseph.

Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice.

A rosary service was conducted on Sunday at 7 pm at the Blackburn Chapel.

Monday, he lied in state at SS. Peter and Paul from 10 to 11 with the funeral mass at 11 am. with Fr. Richard Treml officiating. Burial in Imlay City Twp. cemetery.

Pallbearers were sons; Richard, Ronald, & Glen Buono, grandsons Joseph Buono & Nicholas Benedict and son-in-law, Michael Benedict. Honorary pallbearer, Stanley Howard.

DOROTHY L. CHISHOLM
Dorothy L. Chisholm, 82, resident of Brown City, Flynn Twp., passed away Monday, July 31, 2006 in Saginaw, Michigan.
She was born October 19, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan, daughter to the late Albert and Minnie (Moss) Alstead.

She married Clifford Chisholm on December 4, 1948 in Sandusky, Michigan. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2006.

She was a long time member of the Sandusky Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by two sons, Michael and Penny Chisholm of Marlette, MI. and Clayton and Melodie Chisholm of Brown City, MI; two daughters, Lucy and Robert Mahaffy of Newport Richie, Fl. and Carol and Scot McCready of Marlette, MI; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, George; sisters, Lillian Sitter and Mildred McMahn and grandson, Devin.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. in the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with Rev. Mark Morningstar from the Sandusky Presbyterian Church officiating.

Burial was in the Zion cemetery in Watertown.

Memorials may be donated to the Sandusky Presbyterian Church or American Heart Association.

ARLAN “JACK” HARTWICK
Jack Hartwick, 67, of Cass City, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2006 at home with his family at his side.
He was born March 16, 1939 in Kalamazoo to Arlan and Lucy (McLarty) Hartwick. He married Sharron VanAllen on December 30, 1960 in Cass City.

He graduated from Cass City High School. He worked for Cass City Grain Elevator for many years. He was a volunteer fireman for the Elkland Township Fire Department since 1964 until his last call in 2005. During his many years with the Fire department he served many positions including Chief. He also served on the Cass City Ambulance for over 10 years. He was a former deacon at Novesta Church of Christ. He enjoyed woodworking, fixing cars, fishing, playing with his dog and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived b y his wife, Sharron; children: Jamie (Dale) Kus of Cass City, Arlan “Scott” (Julie) Hartwick of Grand Blanc, Robert (Susan) Hartwick of Cass City, Carol Janos of Marlette, Kevin Hartwick of Cass City; grandchildren: Jordan Kus, Tessa Kus, McKenzie Kus, Michael Hartwick, Zachary Hartwick, Brandon Hartwick, Brooke Hartwick, Collin Hartwick, Jacklyn Janos, Kirsten Janos: sisters: Kay (Rich) Armstrong of Manistee, Cathy (Bob) Williams of Virginia Beach, VA: brothers-in-law: Doug (Hilda) VanAllen of Cass City, Ron (Doris) VanAllen of Troy, Dave (Kim) VanAllen of Canton and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sharlene.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2006 in Novesta Church of Christ with Chuck Emmert officiating. Memorials maybe made to Elkland Township Fire Department or United Hospice of Marlette or Novesta Church of Christ. Interment will be in Novesta Township cemetery.

Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at the church.
