James D. Harmon
James D. Harmon, 40, of Holt, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, August 14, 1999 at his home.
He was born April 26, 1959 in Mayville to James A. and Kay (Henderson) Harmon.

He is survived by his son, Anthony Harmon of Kentwood; mother, Kay (Joc) Bennett of St. Charles; father, James A. (Nancy) Harmon of Mayville; brother, Patrick (Lori) Harmon of Oakley; sisters, Lisa Devcreux of Smithfield NC, Luann (Gary) Alexander of St. Charles, Sandy Bennett of St. Charles; grandmother, Marge Henderson of Kingston; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ward and Clara Harmon and Lynn Henderson.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, August 20, 1999 in the Kranz Funeral Home, Kingston with Rev. Margaret Passenger of the Kingston United Methodist Church officiating. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

He was buried between his grandfather and uncle in the Kingston cemetery.

Vivian N. Cowper
Vivian N. Cowper, 79, passed away Thursday, August 19, 1999 at Four Seasons Health Care Center in Bad Axe.
She lived in Marlette for 37 years and was previously from the Tuscola County area.

She was born on May 29, 1920 in Ruth, Michigan to the late Milton and Jessie (Cleland) Thompson.

She married Harold Cowper on November 14, 1936 in Deckerville, Michigan. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1994.

She worked for the Marlette Dry Cleaners for 35 years and attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Sandusky and Vassar.

She is survived by three sons, Ronald (Patricia) Cowper of Reese, Donald Cowper of Marlette and Jim Cowper of Brown City; four daughters, Joan (Bud) Dennis of Mayville, Janet (David) Leaman of Vassar, Carol (Don) Scribner of Vassar and Norine (Gerald) Kelley of Deford; a sister, Vera Schumacher of Sandusky; 28 grandchildren; and 49 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents, Milton and Jessie; a daughter, Joyce; a sister, Betty; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, August 22, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with pastor Jeff Jorgensen officiating.

Interment was at the Marlette cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Four Seasons Health Care Center, or the Lamotte Missionary Church.

Robert A. Dicks
Robert A. Dicks, 74, a retired dairy farmer, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 1999 at McKenzie Memorial Hospital in Sandusky.
He was a life long area resident of the Marlette area.

He was born on July 12, 1925, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the son of the late Samuel and Jean (Helmer) Dicks.

He married Leola Gould on January 7, 1950 in Marlette.

Although Mr. Dicks sold his dairy farm in 1981, he continued working on area farms before retiring several years later. He was a member of the M.M.P.A.

He is survived by his wife, Leola Dicks of Marlette; three sons, David (Laurene) Dicks of Caro, Daniel (June) Dicks of Lansing and Dean Dicks of Flint; four daughters, Linda Dicks of Lansing, Kathy (Gordon O.) Miller of Decker, Bonnie Dicks of Lansing and Crystal Dicks (fiance Michael Stover) of Lansing; two brothers, Alexander Britton Dicks of Cass City and Richard Dicks of Cass City; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Jean Dicks; a sister, Jean Proctor; and a brother, William James Dicks.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, August 21, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with Rev. Mark Nieman officiating. Interment was at the Marlette cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Jean Patrick Memorial Student Loan Fund or the Marlette FFA.

Casketbearers were Ryan Fields, Robert Fields, Gordon W. Miller, Kenneth Miller, Terry Dicks and Mark Titus.

Abbie Schwaderer O'Kelly
Abbie Schwaderer O'Kelly, a former elementary teacher for the Marlette school district, died in her sleep Sunday in the home of her daughter, Denise Forrest.
Born in Valier, Montana on December 11, 1916, she moved to Kingston, Michigan where she spent her entire childhood, graduating from the Kingston school system.

She was married to the former Dennis O'Kelly.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Tom DeForrest of Portage, Michigan; her son, Mike O'Kelly and his wife Shirley of Moab, Utah; her brother and his wife, Clark and Margaret Schwaderer of Boca Raton, Florida; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She will be buried next to her husband in the Kingston cemetery on Wednesday, August 18th at 1:00 p.m.

Ellen (Toots) Coltson
Ellen (Toots) Coltson, 92, of Kingston died Friday, August 6, 1999 at Lamotte Retirement Home in Decker, Michigan.
Mrs. Coltson was a life long resident of the Kingston area.

She was born June 12, 1907 in Shabbona, daughter of the late George and Elma (Gotham) Parrott.

Ellen was a 1926 graduate of Marlette High School, married Irl J. Coltson January 12, 1927 in Kingston, he passed away February 5, 1989.

She was a past member of the White Creek Floral Club and Lamotte Presbyterian Church and attended the Marlette 1st. Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by one son: Ronald and Loris Coltson of Marlette and one daughter: Patricia and Clair Innes of Hoschton, Georgia; one sister Katherine Turner of Manhatten, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Irl, parents George and Elma, brothers Herb, Earnest, Jim, George, Dewey, Fred; sisters Hazel and Estella.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 10, 1999 at 11:00 am at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with Rev. John R. Allan officiating.

Burial was at the Kingston cemetery in Kingston.

Memorial may be given to the Marlette United Hospice or Marlette 1st Presbyterian Church.

Visitation was held at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette on Sunday 6 pm to 9 pm and Monday 1 pm to 9 pm.

Casket bearers were: John Innes, Shawn, Coltson, Brian Coltson, Neal Coltson, Gary Coltson and Terry Coltson.

Marion I. Stickels
Marion I. Stickels, 82, of Marlette, formerly of Plymouth, died Thursday, August 5, 1999 at Kings AFC Home in Marlette, Michigan.
She was born February 21, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of the late Charles and Georgina (Pears) Allen.

She lived most of her life in Plymouth, and Central Lake, Michigan moving to Marlette in 1994.

She was a member of The Bell Tower Church, Ellsworth, Michigan.

Marion married Lester Daly in January 1936 in Indiana, he died on Feb. 4, 1959, she married Howard Stickels on Sept. 23, 1967, in Temperance, MI.

She is survived by her husband Howard, three sons: Hugh and Bettie Daly of Marlette, David and Rose Marie Daly of Alaska, Lawrence and Nancy Jo Daly of Indiana; daughter: Susan and Al Clymer of New Mexico, two step daughters: Joan and Earle Cherkosly of Plymouth, Diane and Mark Hoagland of Sylvan Lake, two brothers: Walter Allen of Tipton, Donald and Shirley Allen of Missouri; four sisters: Margaret Merritt and Mildred Wesley both of Plymouth, Marjorie McKillip and Madeline and Howard Hunt both of Arizona; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 1 step great grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by a brother Stanley Allen.

Visitation was held at Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette, MI. on Sunday, August 8, 1999 from 11:00 to 2:00 p.m.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 8, 1999, at 2:00 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Chapel, in Marlette with Rev. Kenneth Parker officiating.

Burial was held at Riverside cemetery in Plymouth, on Monday at 11:30 p.m.

Memorial Requests-Alzheimers Association or United Hospice of Marlette.

Chalmer D. Youngs
Chalmer D. Youngs, 97, of Normal, Illinois formerly of Dearborn, Michigan died Monday, August 9, 1999 in Manor Care Nursing Facility, Normal, Illinois after a long illness.
He was born April 10, 1902 in Fowlerville to Eugene and Alta (Lanckton) Youngs. He married Ruby Catherine Kiteley August 17, 1935 in Kingston at the home of the bride's sister and her husband, Evelyn and James Green. Ruby died February 2, 1993.

Mr. Youngs attended Fowlerville High School. He received his Bachelor of Science from Michigan State Normal College (Eastern Michigan University) in 1935. He received his Master of Arts from the University of Michigan in 1940. Before college Chalmer built houses with his twin brother in Ypsilanti.

Mr. Youngs was a junior and senior high school teacher, teaching woodworking, drafting, and driver education for the Dearborn Public School District, retiring in 1967 after 35 years. During his teaching career he helped many student achieve success and learn to take pride in themselves and their work. Chalmer was an avid gardener and photographer.

He is survived by his children: Dr. Richard C. Youngs of Normal, IL, Dr. David D. (Margot) Youngs of Shaker Heights, OH, Rosemary (Brendon Marsh) Dooley of Normal, IL; grandchildren: Amy (Jim) Youngs Tuwell, Kay (Michael) Youngs Ziv, Roy O. Youngs, Peter A. Youngs, William C. Youngs, Lisa J. Dooley, Jeffrey J. Marsh; one great grandchild; brother, Harold Youngs of Williamston; many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his sisters: Winifred Thayer, Pearl Rossbach, Carrie Hoisington and Bessie Schrepfer; brothers: Delmer Youngs, Weston Youngs, Theron Youngs.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday, August 13, 1999, in Kingston United Methodist Church, with Rev. Margaret Passenger officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am Friday in church.

Arrangements by Kranz Funeral Home, Kingston, MI.

Maverick Dylan and Maguire Devon Bennett
Maverick Dylan and Maguire Devon Bennett, twins of Mayville, were stillborn on Friday, February 5, 1999 at the Lapeer Regional Hospital in Lapeer.
They are survived by their parents, Matthew and Deana Bennett of Mayville; brothers, Dawon, 3, and Dallas, 1; grandparents, David and Diane Tompkins of Fostoria and Lawson and Alma Bennett of Mayville; great grandparents, Elmer and Verona Smith of Silverwood, Wayne and Donna Tompkins of Tawas City, Marjorie and the late Douglas Bennett of Mayville, and Harry and Lucille Redman of Mayville; aunts and uncles, Denise Tompkins and fiance Billy Raulson of Silverwood, Debra and Robert Burns of Vassar, Darlene and Timothy Taylor of Fostoria, Darci Tompkins of Fostoria and David Bennett of Mayville; and many other relatives.

Burial was in Rich Township cemetery.

A memorial service was conducted Saturday, February 13, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Fostoria Baptist Church in Fostoria with Rev. Robert Wall officiating.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Arrangements by Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette.
