Duane G. Lehnen, age 84, of Dutton, was reunited with his wife, Joyce, in heaven on Sunday, February 12, 2017 which would have been their 48th wedding anniversary. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, and a grandson, Cole Bronkema. Duane will be remembered for his never ending quick wit, his kindness, and his devotion to his family including his children, Kimberly Sassan, Lisa (Henry) Bronkema, Brad Lehnen; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Lee Rietman; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Linnie VanderWerp, Arnold Benedict, Judy Benedict, Gladys Benedict; many nieces and nephews. As Duane requested, cremation has taken place. The family will greet visitors on Saturday, February 18, from 1 - 2 pm at Harvest Baptist Church, 5444 Pleasant Ave., Hudsonville, where the memorial service will begin at 2 pm, Pastor Ryan Kooienga officiating. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation.

Sybil was born in Hastings to A.J. and Myra (Firster) Woodmansee. She grew up in Hastings, graduating from Hastings High School and Mercy School of Nursing in Detroit (in 1940) cum laude. She was a registered nurse at Leila Hospital, Pennock Hospital, and Spectrum Continuing Care. Sybil was a compassionate and dedicated nurse. She was creative, artistic, hardworking, and most importantly, a wonderful wife, mother, and good friend. Preceding her in death are her husband, Harold C. Thomas; son, Steven Mercer; grandson, Taylor Velthouse; and sister, Mildred Tate. Sybil is survived by her children, Sybil Ann Thomas, Gary (Gina) Thomas, Susan (Robert) Velthouse, Robert (Ruth) Thomas; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A special thank you to Dr. Wildern for many years of care. As per Sybil's request, cremation has taken place with interment at Pine Hill Cemetery.

Martin Jay De Fouw, age 64, of Grand Rapids, passed away unexpectedly of accidental injuries on Thursday, February 9, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Helen De Fouw. Surviving are his sister, Cindy and Mike Stevens; nephews, Bryan and Jami Jones (Dawson, Isabel, Cru), Eric and Bailey Jones (Cadence); niece, Faith Lambert; as well as his uncles, aunts, and cousins. He will also be remembered by his special friends, Dirk and Cindy Wiering. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, at New Life Baptist Fellowship, 6252 Burlingame Ave. SW. Memorial contributions in Martin's memory may be made to New Life Baptist Fellowship.

Norma Roth, age 83, of Kentwood, MI, formerly of Burlington, IA, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017, at Metro Health Hospital, Wyoming, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, two sisters, two nephews, and a niece. Norma will be lovingly remembered by her brothers and sisters, Owen Fox of Keokuk, IA, Nellie Hellemeyer of Dallas City, IL, Ronald Fox of Canton, MO, Sharon (Dean) Seltzer of Arbela, MO, Joyce (Mike) Johnson of Montrose, IA, Linda (Don) Schrader of Montrose, IA, Gloria (Bob) Dunn of Ft. Madison, IA; numerous nieces and nephews; and good friend, Betty Nelson. As Norma requested, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Respecting her love for animals, please consider a donation to ASPCA in her memory.

James L. Dykstra, age 91, of Cutlerville, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, February 17, 2017. Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, and went on to serve his community as a longtime member of the Cutlerville Fire Department. He was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Donna J. and Diane L.; a son-in-law, John Jonker; three sisters, Frances Ballast, Josephine Veldheer, Henrietta Raad; and two brothers, Peter and John Dykstra. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 69 years, Senetta; children, Sharon Tubbs, Barb Jonker, Jimmy Dykstra, Karen (Scott) Kloosterman; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two sisters, Jane (Melvin) Johnson, Marlene (Bill) Boggs; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Winifred Meekhof, Ann "Jean" VanDyke, Gladys (Henry) Huizinga, Floyd (Gerzella) Kerkstra, Larry (Jane) Kerkstra; many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 22, at Providence Christian Reformed Church, 7730 Eastern Ave. SE, with Pastor J. Barrett Wernlund, officiating. Interment will be in Blain Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice or the Mission Fund at Providence CRC. The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Stroo Funeral Home, and on Wednesday from 12:00 - 12:45 pm at the church.

Irene Atsma, age 88, of Grand Rapids, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 6, 2017. Irene was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who demonstrated her Christian faith by sharing her gifts of compassion and encouragement with those around her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Howard. She will be lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren, John and June Atsma (J. Ryan and Naomi Atsma, Megan and Jordan Canan), Thomas and Pamela Atsma (Shann and Michael Kramer, Thomas and Katelyn Atsma, Matthew and Karri Atsma), Henry and Cathy Atsma (Eric Atsma, Emily and Mitchell Nol), Howard and Silvia Atsma (Samuel Atsma, Hannah Atsma), Daniel and Cathy Atsma (Rachel and Chadwick Jurgens, Cassidy and Nathan Bordewyk, Savannah and Michael Kamps, Corissa and Jordan Veurink, Cambrie Atsma, Sage Atsma); ten great grandsons with another great grandson expected in June; a sister-in-law, Doutzen Kooistra; many loved nieces and nephews. Wilma Jean Eerdmans, age 90, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 12, 2017. Wilma was born on July 23, 1926 in Hersey, MI to Daniel and Jennie Thiel. She graduated as valedictorian from Hersey High School. She was married to Louis James Eerdmans Jr. for 59 1/2 years. She loved spending time with her family and friends, playing games, and traveling, spending 17 winters in Mexico with her husband. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Louis James Jr.; and son, Louis James III. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Pamela (Benjamin) Pekelder, Sandra (James) Mallekoote, Linda (Virgil) Boss, Cynthia Corker, Michael Eerdmans, Kenneth Eerdmans; 22 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; sister, Ruth (Harry) Bolthouse; many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 11 am Tuesday, March 21, at Unity Reformed Church, 4450 Poinsettia SE, Kentwood, with Pastor Zack Olson and Pastor Mark Bergsma officiating. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. The family will greet visitors on Thursday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm at Stroo Funeral Home.
