Floyd Shambach
Floyd E. Shambach, age 74, Barnesville, MN, formerly of Fargo, ND, died on Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Barnesville.
Floyd Eugene Shambach was born on July 14, 1929 at rural Brinsmade, ND, the son of Shiloh and Mary (Herman) Shambach. He grew up and went to school in the Brinsmade area. As a young man he loved to hunt and trap.
In the late 1950’s, Floyd served his country in the US Armed Forces. After his discharge from the military he worked in the oil fields of western North Dakota, and then returned to the Brinsmade area.
On July 5, 1958, Floyd was united in marriage to Lucille Qualiwag. They made their home in Crary, ND, and later in Devils Lake, ND. Floyd worked on a local farm and at a grain elevator in Devils Lake. He retired in 1987, and they moved to Cando, ND. Lucille died in December of 1989.
After Lucille’s death, Floyd moved to Fargo, ND, where he lived until becoming a resident of the Good Samaritan Home in Barnesville in June of 1998.
Floyd is survived by a brother, Gordon Shambach of Minot, ND; four sisters, Norma Rose of Rolette, ND, Mary (Robert) Dryden of San Diego, CA, Grace Lilke of Fargo, and Esther (Vernon) Gerig of Brinsmade; and 15 nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by two sisters, Lorraine Shambach and F. Berneice Lavik.
Memorial service: Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at 3 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, Minnesota.
James Sitta
James A. Sitta, 94, Dilworth, Minnesota, died Sunday, September 7, 2003, in Villa Maria, Fargo, ND.
James Anton Sitta was born October 9, 1908, to James and Barbara (Bidar) Sitta in Veseleyville, ND, where he was raised. Jim worked on area farms in his younger years and then worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Arkansas. He came to Fargo, ND, and attended barber school. Jim was married to Grace Schnathorst, January 7, 1939, in Fargo, where they made their home. They moved to Moorhead, MN, and Jim began working for Gamble’s in 1959. They lived in Minneapolis, MN, for fourteen years and moved to Dilworth when he retired in 1974. Grace died July 3, 1989 and Jim continued to reside in Dilworth.
Jim is survived by eleven nieces and nephews: Judy (Roger) Mlcoch, Gloria (David) Solberg, Karl (Mary) Schnathorst, William Schnathorst, Robert (Chris) Schnathorst, Carol Laberge, Valerie (Steve) Larson, LaVonne (Ed) Nordgulen, Cynthia (Randy) Beckett, Elana (Rahn) Bergee and Stephanie Adams.

Ilo Hogan
Ilo Artance Henriette Hogan, 78, Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND. Ilo was born June 16, 1924, in Minneapolis, MN, to Henry and Florence (Nyberg) Wilson where she was raised and educated. In 1950, Ilo moved to California. She married Edward James Hogan, November 10, 1951, in Las Vegas, NV, and they made their home in California. Edward died March 24, 1976, and Ilo remained in California until moving to Brainerd, MN, and then Moorhead, in the 1990’s. Ilo is survived by her two sons, Paul (Nancy), Victorville, CA, and Dennis (Marie), West Covina, CA; daughter, Karen Scott; and two brothers, Roger Wilson, Minneapolis, and DeVan, Brainerd, MN.

Gladys Peterson
Gladys Ruth Peterson, 91, formerly of Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, October 2, 2003, in ManorCare Health Services, Fargo, ND.
Gladys Tranberg was born December 6, 1911, near Hallock, MN, where she graduated from high school. After graduation, Gladys worked at the Hallock Memorial Hospital before moving to Minneapolis, MN, to work at and attend the Bible Institute at Minnehaha Academy.
On June 5, 1935, Gladys married Victor Petereson in Hallock where they made their home and farmed. To this union, one son, Arne, was born. They farmed near Hallock until they moved to farm near Breckenridge, MN. In 1955, they bought a farm near Wolverton, MN, where they lived for almost thirty years.
Gladys and Victor retired in 1984, and moved to Moorhead. Victor died February 1, 1991.Gladys became a resident of ManorCare in January of 2003.
Gladys is survived by her son, Arne (Della), Wolverton; five granddaughters, Becky (Leigh) Johnson, Grand Rapids, MN, Vicki (Randy) Heley, Lidgerwood, ND, Sharon (Dan) Rogers, Mound, MN, Karen (Tony) Spandl, Moorhead, and Patti (Tim) Naugle, Elk River, MN; fourteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers, and three sisters.

Billiette Scherling
Billiette M. Scherling, 81, died Friday, August 22, 2003 at the ManorCare Nursing Home, Fargo. Billiette was born November 19, 1921, in Fargo North Dakota, to Albert and Amanda Skjonsby. She received her education in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1939 and from North Dakota State University in 1974 with a BS degree in counseling. She continued her education by completing special training in alcoholism at The Nebraska School For Alcohol Studies, University of Nebraska - Lincoln and the Utah School on Alcoholism and other Drug Dependencies, University of Utah. She was a member of The Kansas Alcoholism Counselors Association and The National Association of Alcoholism Counselors. Billiette was employed as a certified counselor with the Valley Hope Center in Atchison Kansas from 1976 to 1982 before retiring and returning to Fargo.
Billiette remained active in the Fargo Alcoholics Anonymous Club House and also wrote until January 1997 a monthly column, “Billiette Calling”, in the Club House’s Silver Dollar Newsletter. Her life was devoted to her mother, sister and brother; to raising and caring for her family; to helping countless individuals find their “higher powers” back into productive lives; to reading and searching for new awareness’ into helping others lead more whole lives; to her grand and great grand children - her hope for the future; and to her Church. She is loved and is truly being missed - “God Called Billie” so let us rejoice!
Billiette married Orlando K. Scherling December 28, 1941 and as members of the First United Methodist Church together raised five sons. Orlando passed away in 1994 and their son, Jerry, in 1978. Billiette is survived by sons Steven (Fannie) Scherling, Fargo, Michael (June) Scherling, Houston, Patrick Scherling, Fargo and Larry Scherling, Fargo; eight grandchildren, Tara Scherling, Zach Scherling, Nick Scherling, Aaron Scherling and Annah Scherling all of Fargo, Sarah (Gabriel) Torres, Lydia Scherling and Heather Scherling, all of Houston TX, and Krystle Scherling, Branson MO.; two great grandchildren Gavin and Kaylah Torres, Houston. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Gladys and brother Clarence.
The family thanks the physicians, nurses and staff of MeritCare, ManorCare and Hospice Red River Valley.
Visitation: Monday 6:00 to 8:00 PM with prayer service 7:00 PM at Korsmo Funeral Chapel Moorhead.
Funeral: Tuesday, August 26, 2003, at 11:00 AM at the Shiloh Evangelical Free Church, West Fargo ND.
Interment: Riverside Cemetery Fargo.

Howard Rinehardt
Howard J. Rinehardt, 87, Fargo, ND, died Monday, October 13, 2003, at The Evergreens, Fargo, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Howard Jack Rinehardt was born July 5, 1916, in the township of Atlanta near Ulen and Lake Park, MN, to Oscar and Martha (Aase) Rinehardt. At an early age the family moved to Fargo.
Howard served in the Army during World War II. Upon his discharge from the military, he returned home and married Marion C. Lindgren on October 1, 1948, in Detroit Lakes, MN. The couple made their home in Fargo where Howard worked as a service manager for Berkey Lincoln-Mercury until retiring in 1979. He then worked as a custodian at the El Zagal Shrine, Fargo.
Marion died on September 24, 2001 and Howard became a resident of The Evergreens in December of 2002.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary (James) Hastings, Felton, MN, Kathey (Gary) Birkmaier, Highlands Ranch, CO; a son, Mark (Valerie) Rinehardt, Lake City, MN; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Monzingo
Evelyn Monzingo, 91, Fargo, ND, died Thursday, October 2, 2003, in Rosewood On Broadway, Fargo.
Evelyn Frances Werner was born May 12, 1912, to William and Anne (Appel) Werner, in rural Woods, ND. Evelyn graduated from high school in Leonard, ND, and attended college at Mayville State, Mayville, ND. She taught second grade in schools in North Dakota and Washington.
On January 13, 1944, Evelyn married Dr. William Monzingo and they made their home in Concrete, WA. William died in 1980, and Evelyn moved to Fargo in 1989. She became a resident of Rosewood On Broadway in April of 2002.
Evelyn is survived by two nieces and two nephews, Kathryn (Ole) Johnson, Oakes, ND, Diane (Maynard) Asleson, Mapleton, ND, Wally Foulkes, Tacoma, WA, and John (Judi) Foulkes, Olympia, WA; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three sisters, Mildred Ross, Nettie Foulkes, and Ethel Werner.
