Roger Olgard

Roger Walter Olgard, 67, of Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, September 24, 2003, in his home.

Roger was born on July 4, 1936, to Reier and Bertha (Lenning) Olgard in Hannaford, ND. Roger grew up there and graduated from Hannaford High School in 1955. After working in banking he attended Moorhead (MN) State College and graduated in 1963. He later obtained a Master of Arts degree from North Dakota State University, Fargo. He was an elementary school teacher in the Fargo Public School System for five years before becoming an elementary principal. He was principal at three schools in Fargo, ending at Lewis and Clark where he served over twenty years. He retired in 1998.

Roger married Charlotte Olson in 1961 in Hannaford, ND. They made their home in Fargo. They had two sons. Shawn Scott, born in 1962 and Mark Lane, born in 1967.

Roger loved being an elementary principal. He always looked forward to returning to work in the fall to be with his colleagues and the children.

Roger also enjoyed the outdoors. Hunting and fishing with friends and family was a favorite pastime of his.

He is survived by his wife Char, sons, Shawn (Carolie) Olgard, grandson, Joshua, Fargo. Mark (Susan) Olgard, grandchildren, Isaac, Selah, Jacob, and Nathan, Moorhead. Brother, Vernon (Myrna) Olgard, Spokane, WA.. Sisters, Ruby Olson, Anaconda, MT, Bernice (Ralph) Schaffer, Boise, ID, Tillie (Frank) Shandorf, Missoula, MT, and many nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Saturday, September 27, 2003 at 2:00 PM at Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Red River Valley or to a charity of your choice.

Jocelyn Meier

Jocelyn Trummer Meier, 83, Fargo, ND, died Friday, October 10, 2003, under hospice care, at her daughter’s home in Coon Rapids, MN.

Jocelyn Elizabeth Collins was born November 6, 1919, in Osakis, MN, to John and Millie Collins. She married Dwayne H. Trummer, January 20, 1943, in Big Springs, TX. He preceded her in death May 19, 1980. On October 13, 1984, Jocelyn married Fred Meier, in Fargo, a longtime friend of the family. He preceded her in death April 28, 1996.

Jocelyn is survived by her two daughters, Elynn (Gordon) Erickson, Sioux Falls, SD, and Beverly Heier, Coon Rapids; a son, Durwin (Jacqueline) Trummer, Rapid City, SD; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lowell (Audrey) Collins, Osakis.

Visitation: Tuesday, October 14, 2003; 5 - 7 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead

Funeral: Wednesday, October 15, 2003; 10:30 AM Bethel Evangelical Free Church, Fargo

Interment: Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead

Gladys Madson

Gladys Evelyn Schafer, the daughter of Joseph and Laura (Cleveland) Schafer, was born on the family farm at Gardner, ND, on May 21, 1916. She grew up and received her education at Gardner, where she graduated from high school in 1934.

On Dec. 2, 1935, Gladys was united in marriage to Milton Madson, at Moorhead, MN. Following their marriage they made their home in the Gardner area, where they farmed until retiring in 1979.

Gladys was active in her church and her community. She was a charter member of the “Friendly Neighbors” Homemakers group. In Nora Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday school and held various offices. She started the Nora Men’s Chorus and was director of the both the Men’s Chorus and the church choir. She also sang for many funerals at Nora. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting.

In February of 2003, Gladys became a resident of Moorhead Healthcare Center, Moorhead. She died there on Thursday, October 23, 2003, at the age of 87. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Olson.

Gladys is survived by her husband, Milton, rural Gardner; two daughters, Evelyn (Glen) Nelson, Dayton, Ohio, and Ruth (Larry) McCrank, Illinois; two sons, Leroy, rural Gardner, and Roger (Kim) Madson, Fargo, ND; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Monday, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, and one hour before the funeral, at the church.

Prayer service: Monday at 7:00 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral service: Tuesday, October 28, 2003, at 11 AM Nora Lutheran Church, Gardner, North Dakota.

Burial: Nora Lutheran Cemetery, Gardner.

Rosella Martinson

Rosella G. Martinson, age 85, Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, October 04, 2003, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.

Rosella Georgine Olson, the daughter of John E. and Alpha (Strand) Olson, was born at Lake Park, MN, on November 20, 1917. She grew up and received her education in Lake Park, where she graduated from high school. She attended, and graduated in 1938, from Moorhead (MN) State Teacher’s College.

In 1944, she moved to San Diego, CA, where she worked in an aircraft factory during WW II. While in California, she met Henry Martinson. They were married in San Diego, on June 3, 1945.

In 1950, they returned to Lake Park, and then to Moorhead, where they had lived since. Rosella did substitute teaching in Moorhead. Henry died on Nov. 27, 1994.

Since his death, Rosella has continued to live in Moorhead, most recently as a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home.

Rosella is survived by a son, David Martinson of Fargo, ND; a daughter, Linda (Leif) Erickson of Stillwater, MN; and a grandson, Hans (Heather) Erickson, Shoreview, MN.

Visitation: one hour before the funeral, at the church.

Funeral service: Tuesday (Oct. 7, 2003) at 2:00 PM Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, Minnesota.

Burial: Moorhead Memorial Gardens, Moorhead, MN.

Antonio Lugo

Antonio Lugo was born March 9, 1928, to Antonio and Anastacia (Enriques) Lugo, in Edinburg, TX. Antonio was raised in Mexico and met Cecilia Lopez when he was sixteen years of age. They were married May 15, 1945, in Donna, TX. Antonio and Cecilia worked as farmhands in a number of states including Ohio and Iowa. They worked for George and Rose Johnson, in the Glyndon-Felton, MN, area during those years. They made Glyndon their permanent residence in the early 1960s. For the past three years, they had been living with their daughter, Anna, in Moorhead. Antonio passed away Thursday, August 21, 2003 in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND, at seventy-five years of age.

Antonio was very involved in the Hispanic community of the Fargo-Moorhead area. The Lugo family founded the Hispanic Childrens Christmas Party, held for over fifteen years at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. He served on the boards of the Hispanic Cultural Center as well as the Migrant Council. He also founded the Latin Club of the Fargo-Moorhead area with Santos and Minnie Garcia.

Antonio is survived by his wife, Cecilia; seven daughters, Mary (Charles) Crowe, Gloria (Jamie) Bailey and Theresa Barbosa, all Glyndon; Rozy (Arthur) Aguilar, Barnesville, MN, Carmen DeDiaz, California, and Anna (Armando) Amaya and Lucy (Kenneth) Arne, both Moorhead; four sons, Frank (Marsha) Lugo, West Fargo, ND, Juan Lugo, Hayward, WI, Antonio Lugo, Burbank, CA, and Victor (Kari) Lugo, North Hollywood, CA; thirty-two grandchildren; and thirty-eight great grandchildren. Antonio was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Juan Lugo; and two very close friends, Pedro Castañon of Sabin and Joe Flores of Moorhead.

Roland Ludemann

Roland H. Ludemann, died October 7, 2003, at home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, at the age of 84.

Roland Henry Ludemann, son of John and Anna (Lohse) Ludemann, was born October 31, 1918, in Kent, MN. He moved with his family to Sabin, MN, where he grew up and received his education. He was a painter with his father for several years in the Sabin area.

Roland joined the Army Air Corp in 1942, and on April 12, 1942, he was united in marriage to Olinda Lemke, in Sabin. He was discharged in 1943, and the couple made their home in Moorhead. Roland worked at Corwin- Chrysler- Plymouth, Fargo, ND, for 34 years as a service manager, retiring in 1983. He then worked as a custodian for Temple Beth El, Fargo, for 15 years, retiring in 1999.

Roland and Olinda enjoyed traveling on bus tours, gardening, camping, and for twenty years, square dancing. Roland was a longtime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and the American Legion Club, both Moorhead.

Roland is survived by his wife, Olinda, Moorhead; one son, Keith Roland (Arlien), Oak Harbor, WA; two daughters, Mary Kay (Royal) Herbold, Detroit Lakes, MN, and Jeanine Ann Smith (Michael) Issauquah, WA; nine grandchildren and one great - grandchild; one sister, Erna Bang, Rollag, MN; three brothers, Walter (Doris), Moorhead, Kenneth (Rita), Detroit Lakes, MN, and George (Lerae), Missoula, MT. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 4 brothers.

Allan Johnson

Allan Albert Johnson, 71, Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, in Moorhead Healthcare Center, Moorhead. Allan was born June 28, 1931, in Baudette, MN, to Edwin and Nina Johnson. He served in the US Air Force from 1948 to 1954 and then worked for many years as an insurance adjuster. He entered Moorhead Healthcare Center in April 2000. Allan is survived by two daughters; and a sister, Rita Paulson, Minnetonka, MN.

Interment will take place in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.

Myrn Rorick

Myrn Estelle Hamlin, daughter of Lewis and Rose (Hamilton) Hamlin, was born March 16, 1913, at White Earth, MN. She grew up and graduated from high school in Mahnomen, MN. Myrn joined the U.S. Navy in 1944, was discharged in 1945, and made her home in Nevada where she attended nursing school. Myrn was united in marriage to Harry J. Rorick on January 18, 1947, in Elko, NV, where the couple made their home. They moved to White Earth in 1952, where Myrn worked as a nurse for White Earth Indian Health Services. In 1972, she retired and they moved to Barnesville, MN. Harry died in 1986 and Myrn continued to live in Barnesville, where she enjoyed her family and her dogs. Myrn died June 8, 2003, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND, at the age of 90. She is survived by one nephew, Bill (Patsy) Hamlin, North Plains, OR. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

A private family gathering will be held, at Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN, with interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
