Curtis Ronsberg

Curtis W. Ronsberg, 68, Barnesville, MN, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND. Curtis Wayne Ronsberg was born December 23, 1934, in rural Hawley, MN, to Ole and Mathilda (Pederson) Ronsberg. He graduated from Barnesville High School and farmed on the home farmstead in rural Hawley. On October 10, 1970, Curtis married Barbara Timian in Sanborn, MN, and they made their home on the farmstead. Curtis drove truck for several gravel companies and worked for Ames Ready Mix for thirteen years. He was also a member of the Skree (MN) Town Board. In 1984, Curtis retired due to illness and in September of 1996 he became a resident of the Barnesville Good Samaritan Center.

Curtis is survived by his wife, Barbara, Hawley; a brother, Orris, Moorhead, MN; two sisters, Helen (Arthur) Nelson, Moorhead, MN, and Bernice Aitken, Minneapolis, MN; his mother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Visitation: Sunday, June 15, 2003 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00

Gladys DesSaint

Gladys Sylvia DesSaint, 73, Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, in her home under hospice care, following a two month battle with pancreatic cancer. Gladys Sylvia Midboe was born May 6, 1930, in Hatton, ND, the daughter of the late Tobias and Margit (Sondreaal) Midboe. Her family moved to Minneapolis, MN, after her first year of high school so her brother Gilbert could attend medical school. Gladys graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis in 1948. She met her husband Bill DesSaint in June of 1951 at a resort near Annandale, MN. They were united in marriage Jan. 10, 1959, in St. Paul, MN, and made their home initially in Richfield, MN. Gladys worked as a secretary for the Charles W. Sexton Co. in St. Paul, Great Northern Railroad in St. Paul, and Burnsville School District Office in Burnsville, MN. The DesSaint family moved to Moorhead, in 1975 where she began a ten-year career as a church secretary for First Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. Gladys was a long-time member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. Over the years she participated on the Advent Workshop Committee, Altar Guild, and functioned as Stephen Ministry secretary. Gladys was an avid gardener and always had a backyard full of beautiful flowers and plants. She was also an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins, rarely missing a televised game. Gladys is survived by her husband, William, Moorhead; brother, Dr. Gilbert (Joan) Midboe, Gainesville, FL; three sons, Thomas, West Fargo, ND, Steven (Kelly), Charlotte, NC, and Daniel (Christi), Moorhead; and four grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, Carly, and Jordan. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Anna Kovakovich and Cora Midboe; and her brothers, Rev. Engebret Midboe and Melvin Midboe. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Hospice of the Red River Valley, or the American Cancer Society.

Visitation: Sunday, 6 PM to 7:30 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral: Monday, June 16, 2003, at 2 PM in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead.

Burial: Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead.

Muriel Bruggeman

Muriel L. Bruggeman, age 69, Moorhead, MN, died at MeritCare Hospital, S. University campus, Fargo, ND, on Thursday, June 12, 2003. Muriel L. Tice was born June 29, 1933, in Mentor, MN, the daughter of Wilson and Maud Tice. She attended school in Mentor. On Sept. 22, 1949, Muriel was married to Dale Bruggeman in Red Lake Falls, MN. The family lived at Mentor and several other communities before they made their home in the Fargo-Moorhead area in 1975. Muriel was employed by several FM area businesses, as a seamstress. She also operated her own alterations business. After retirement in 1990, Muriel and Dale made their home in the Detroit Lakes, MN, area. In September of 2002, they returned to Moorhead to live. Muriel is survived by her husband, Dale, Moorhead; five sons, Keith (Cathy), Mentor, Gregory (Donna), Newcastle, WY, Jeffrey (Cheryl), and Terry (Karen), both West Fargo, ND, and Steven, Denver, CO; two daughters, Jacalyn (Dan) Duncan, Fargo, and Kathleen Bruggeman, Moorhead; two sisters, Lois (Kenneth) Bruggeman, Crookston, MN, and Norma (Richard) McLaughlin, Hayward, WI; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Muriel was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Visitation: Monday, from 5 PM until 8 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral service: Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at 10 AM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Inurnment: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.

Patrik Tollefson

Patrik B. Tollefson died at his home in Fargo, ND, on Friday, June 13, 2003. He was 21 years old. Patrik B. Tollefson, the son of Ronald and Jodi (Johnson) Tollefson, was born in Fargo, ND, on May 1, 1982. He lived with his family in Fargo until 1992, when they moved to Zumbrota, MN. In 1996, the family moved to Rochester, MN, where Patrik graduated from John Marshall High School in 2001. On Aug. 1, 2002, Patrik was married to Angela Kullenberg, in Nevis, MN. In September of 2002, they made their home in Fargo. Patrik worked in the warehouse department for Cole Paper Company. Patrik is survived by his wife, Angela, Fargo; a daughter, Sydney, Fargo; a son, Patrik E., Fargo; his mother, Jodi, Rochester; two brothers, Michael (Carrie), Rothsay, MN, and Andy (Cheyenne), Spring Valley, MN; three sisters, Melissa (Greg) Rosentreter, Fergus Falls, MN, Jennifer and Katie, both Rochester; grandmother, Marlys Tollefson, West Fargo, ND; and grandparents, Bob and Lois Johnson, Fargo. His father, Ronald, died on March 9, 2002.

Funeral service: Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at 2 PM First Presbyterian Church, Fargo.

Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.

Edward Brimie

Edward Brimie was born on May 24, 1905, in Chicago, IL, the son of Elida and Paul Brimie. As a boy, he moved with his brother to live with an aunt at Overly, ND, where he grew up and received his education. Following his schooling, he returned to Chicago, where he lived for a short period of time before returning to Overly. On Sept. 16, 1936, Edward was united in marriage to Ella Johnson, at Rolette, ND. Following their marriage, they lived at Rugby, ND, Fargo, ND and Valley City, ND, before returning to live in Fargo in 1953. Edward worked for Globe Clothing Co. in Fargo and for Straus Clothing. In 1957, Edward and Ella sublet the boys and young mens department of Straus, which they operated until they retired in 1972. Following retirement, they continued to live in Fargo. They also owned a home in Mesa, AZ, where they spent their winters for a number of years. Edward was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He truly enjoyed company, especially family visits. He enjoyed exercising, gardening, tinkering and remodeling around the home, well into his 90’s. Edward was a devoted Christian and active church member. Very recently, Edward became a resident of Elim Care Center in Fargo, where he died on Saturday, June 14, 2003, at the age of 98. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and two sisters. Edward Brimie is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ella, Fargo; four daughters, Margaret “Peggie” (Bill) Omdalen, who lives on Loon Lake, near Vergas, MN, Loretta Rosenberg, Wahpeton, ND, Paulette Cox, Oxnard, CA, and Patricia Brimie, Monterey, CA; six grandsons, Scott (Sue) and Randy Omdalen, Chris (Angie), Eric (Julie), and Jason Rosenberg, and Jonathan Cox; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Tuesday, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Prayer service: Tuesday at 7:00 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Kathryn Melheim

Kathryn M. Melheim, 76, Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND. Kathryn Marie Lenbom was born June 8, 1927, to Clinton and Iva (Weldon) Lenbom at Rice Lake, WI. She graduated from high school at Chetek, WI, in 1945. She attended St. Olaf College from 1945 to 1947 when she transferred to the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire graduating in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She taught public school in Superior, WI, St. Paul, MN, and Williston, ND. Kathryn was married to Ray Melheim of Sioux City, Iowa, on August 26, 1951. Ray was a senior at Luther Seminary, St. Paul, at the time. Three children were born to this union: Ruth, Rich, and Karen. Kathryn taught Sunday school most of the years of her life, beginning at age 15. She taught other church school classes including Bible school, adult education, and confirmation in parishes at Souris, ND, Dilworth, MN, Williston, ND, and Parshall, ND, where her husband served as pastor. She also loved to write and was an avid poet. Kathryn is survived by her husband, Ray, Moorhead; three children, Ruth (Steven) Brubakken, Jamestown, ND, Rev. Rich (Arlyce) Melheim, Stillwater, MN, and Karen (Stephen) Brevig, Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren, Clint and ChrisDee Brevig, Kathryn E. and Joseph Melheim, and John Brubakken; a sister, Wanda (Carl) Dahlberg, Solon Springs, WI; and a brother, Jim (Donna) Lenbom, Cameron, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Ellen.

Instead of flowers, Kathryn requested that Memorials be directed to her son’s Faith Inkubators Foundation for Family Ministry at the Lutheran Community Foundation, 423 S. Main St. Stillwater, MN 55082, The American Lung Association or to Foreign Missions.

Verna Marsten

Verna Adeline Jevning was born December 3, 1916, to Ole and Ida (Larson) Jevning, in Fisher, MN. Verna was raised in the Climax, MN area, where she graduated from high school. On July 29, 1937, Verna was united in marriage to Morris Marsten in Ada, MN, and they made their home in Ada, MN. Verna worked in the food service area for Ada public schools. They moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1956, and Verna continued to work in food service at Moorhead State University. While at MSU, Verna was fraternity mother for Alpha Epsilon and Sigma Tau Gamma fraternities. She retired from MSU in the early 1970s, but continued to work in food service at Ramada Inn and Hornbachers deli department, both in Moorhead. Morris preceded her in death on April 20, 1988. In August 2000, Verna entered Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead where she died Thursday, June 19, 2003, surrounded by her family, at eighty-six years of age.

Verna is lovingly survived by her three sons, Kent and his wife, Becky of Crumpler, NC, Tim of Moorhead, and Brad and his wife, Sharon of Kerkhoven, MN; eight grandchildren, Greg, Nathan, Erin, Megan, Jeremy, Rhett, Chantell, and Nikki; one great-granddaughter, Camille; a sister, Alyce Amundson of Moorhead; and sisters-in-law, Orvella Jevning of Moorhead, and Alvina Marsten of Ada. In addition to her husband, Morris, Verna was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Rudolph Johnson

Rudolph Johnson, age 95, Moorhead, MN, died at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead, on Wednesday, June 25, 2003. Rudolph W. Johnson, the son of Frank and Martha (Leebeck) Johnson, was born at the family home south of Moorhead, on May 9, 1908. Rudy grew up on the family farm and attended a rural school, south of Moorhead. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1927. He then attended Interstate Business College, Fargo, ND.

On January 18, 1941, Rudy was married to Ruby Larson at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Moorhead. In 1942, Rudy entered the US Army. He served his country during WW II in North Africa and in Italy. Following his discharge, he returned to Moorhead. In 1950 the family moved to the farm south of Moorhead, where Rudy farmed for 43 years. He retired from farming when he was 85.

His family and farming were the centers of Rudy’s life. He was a life-long member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, which was also extremely important to him. He was a life-member of the Moorhead VFW.

His wife, Ruby, died on October 27, 1999. Rudy was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Adelbert, Hjalmer and Oscar; and three sisters, Agnes and Elvira Johnson and Edlin Skjaret.

Rudy is survived by six children, Carol L. (Keith) Aho, Cook, MN, R. LeRoy (Rosemary) Johnson, rural Moorhead, Richard N. (Denise) Johnson, Fargo, James E. (Linda) Johnson, Brooklyn Park, MN, Douglas D. Johnson, Rapid City, SD, and Holly R. (Wayne) Osborne, Clearfield, UT; five brothers and sisters, Leonard Johnson, Marian Cuddy, Edward (Noella) Johnson, and Lyla DuBord, all Moorhead, and David Johnson, Sabin, MN; fourteen grandchildren, Kaarin Scoma, Kraig, Kris and Kurt Aho, Lisa Spriggs, Shelley Smith, Dana Cossette, Troy and Eric Johnson, Wendy Howes, Wanda Johnson, Summer and Siri Bruns, and Brianna Osborne; and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Sunday, 5 PM until 8 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral service: Monday, June 30, 2003, at 1 PM Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead.

Burial: Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead

Myrtle Olson

Myrtle E. Olson, age 97, died Tuesday, July 8 2003, at Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND.

Myrtle E. Olson was born near Sutton in Griggs County, ND, on August 29, 1905, the daughter of Alfred and Emma (Peterson) Olson. She attended school in Sutton, and then went to Valley City Normal School for teachers training. She taught in rural schools in Cooperstown, ND, areas for 13 years, including the Eastman school west of Sutton, the Haughton school near Cooperstown, and the Freer school near Karnak. She managed their home on the family farm in Mabel Township near Sutton, ND, with her brother, Frank, until they moved to Cooperstown in 1966. She moved to Fargo in 1991 to live at The Evergreens and since November of 1999, she lived at Elim Care Center. Myrtle traveled widely with her brother Frank and spent many winters in Florida and California. She was a longtime member of the Cooperstown Evangelical Free Church and supporter of the Cooperstown Bible Camp.

She is survived by five nieces and three nephews. Two brothers and five sisters preceded her in death.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service on Monday.

Funeral: Monday, July 14, 2003, at 11:00 AM Cooperstown Funeral Chapel, Cooperstown, ND.

Burial: Mabel Cemetery at Sutton, ND.
