Lillian Kock, 78

Lillian Kock, 78, of Burnsville, Minn., formerly of Winthrop, Minn., died on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010 at the Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop.

Lorraine Loeffler, 89

Lorraine M. Loeffler, 89 of Buffalo, died Saturday, September 18, 2010. She was born March 4, 1921, in Nassua, Minnesota, daughter of Arthur and Margaret (O'Connor) Froemming. On October 14, 1947 she was united in marriage to John Thomas Loeffler at Annunciation Catholic Church, Minneapolis.

Lorraine attended St. Cloud College and earned a teaching certificate. She taught in a one room country school with students in grades one through eight. She later moved to Tacoma, Washington with her parents, and other family members.

Lorraine was active in: choir and band during her childhood, church choir and Sweet Adelines. She was a leader in Camp Fire Girls for years. She worked at Osborne-McMillan, North Memorial Hospital and later in Cass County as a court deputy.

She loved the Lord, her family, music, reading, crafts, playing cards and games, the changing of the seasons, the Twins and Vikings.

Lorraine is survived by: son Thomas (Sherilyn) of Maple Grove; daughters, Mary Leffler and her husband Bruce Biederman of Buffalo; and Anne (Barry) Kramer of Bellingham, Washington; grandchildren Jessica (Amos) Nelson, Brett (Jennifer) Slunaker, Joshua Kramer, and Todd (Jennifer) Slunaker; great-grandchildren, Julia Marie Nelson, and Jaxson Brett Slunaker; step grandchildren Blake Biederman, Keith Liestman, Joel (Jennifer) Liestman, Deanna (Dan) O'Donnell; step great-grandchildren Michelle, Amelia and William O'Donnell. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.

The visitation will be held at Peterson Chapel of Buffalo on Thursday, September 23, 5:00 - 7:00 pm. A service for the family follows the visitation. A private internment will take place at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Buffalo.

In lieu of flowers and plants memorials may be designated to Park View Care Center in Buffalo in memory of Lorraine.

Shirley Quast, 75

Shirley Quast, age 75, of Winsted, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at St. Mary's Care Center in Winsted.

She was born in Winsted to Joseph and Amelia (Kallemach) Neumann on September 9, 1935.

Shirley graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1953. On October 15, 1955 Shirley married Leander Quast.

Shirley raised her children, worked on the farm, and worked at other jobs, including in the town bakery, an office assistant, and other work.

In her retirement, Shirley enjoyed life on the farm where she was born. She enjoyed gardening, travel, playing cards with relatives, and her grandchildren. She was also involved in The McLeod County Food Shelf and was township clerk.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.

Shirley is survived by her children Dan Quast of Corcoran, Renee (Francis) Schroeder of Nowthen, Minnesota; Les (Edith Jean) Quast of Hacienda Heights, California; and Denise (Harold) Weibel of Annandale. Shirley also had four grandchildren in Minnesota: Joe (Cammie) Gagnon of Monticello, Ryan Gagnon of Minneapolis, Madelyn and Katie Weibel of Annandale, and two great-grandchildren Isaiah and Noah Gagnon of Monticello.

Shirley's surviving siblings include Marvin (Marietta) Neumann of Silver Lake; Marcella Castro of Sebastopol, California, Dorothy (Earl) Latzig of Winsted, and sister-in-law Mary Ann Neumann. There are also many other relatives and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leander on April 21, 1987; son Terence on January 2, 1978; brothers William and Joseph; sister Elaine Neumann and son-in-law John Gagnon on October 14, 1986.

A memorial service for Shirley Quast was held on Friday, September 17th at 7:00 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A time of gathering was held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.

Raymond Ruzicka, 91

Raymond A. Ruzicka, age 91, of Winsted, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2010, at St. Mary's Care Center in Winsted.

Raymond A. Ruzicka was born May 6, 1919, in Winsted Township, McLeod County, Minnesota to Louis and Josephine (Lamott) Ruzicka. He grew up in Winsted Township and attended country schools. After school he helped on the family farm. Raymond was inducted into the United States Army during World War II.

Raymond was united in marriage to Lillian Helen "Billie" Gritz on October 14, 1942 in Buffalo. The couple owned and operated the Town Club in Silver Lake for a number of years. They then purchased a farm between Silver Lake and Winsted where he raised cattle. Ray and Billie and his brother Clifford and wife, Leona, owned and operated the Blue Note Ballroom in Winsted for many years. After selling the Blue Note Ballroom 40 years ago, Ray kept busy doing a number of things including operating a peanut route and fishing at his lake cabin on Birch Lake near Hackensack. He enjoyed tinkering with woodworking and refinishing furniture. Ray enjoyed wintering in Brownsville, Texas for five years.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #8253, Winsted American Legion Post #407, a former member of the Silver Lake American Legion Post #141, and to the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Ray has been a resident at St. Mary's Care Center for the past four and a half years.

He is survived by brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leroy "Hans" and wife Joan Gritz of San Diego, CA.; several nieces and nephews.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Josephine Ruzicka, wife Lillian "Billie" on October 31, 2004, brother Clifford and his wife Leona, and three nephews, Raymond Schermann, Ralph Ruzicka, and Kenneth Gritz.

Mass of Christian Burial for Raymond "Ray" Ruzicka was held on Monday, September 20, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Tony Hesse was the Celebrant. Entombment Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Winsted.

Visitations were held at St. Mary's Care Center in Winsted on Monday, September 20th from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Visitation continued at the Chilson Funeral Chapel on Monday, September 20th from 2:30 until time of services.

Casket Bearers were Dean Schermann, Tom Schermann, Paul Schermann, Harry Engle, Don Cuhel and Jeremy Cardinal.

The Chilson Funeral Chapel of Winsted served the family with the arrangements.

Brocklyn Spike, 59

Brocklyn Oliver Spike, age 59, of Clitherall, Minnesota and formerly of rural Maple Lake, passed away on Monday, September 13th, 2010 at his residence.

He was born on May 21, 1951 in Monticello the son of Delton and Lillian Marquette Spike.

Brocklyn graduated from Buffalo High School.

On August 6, 1971, Brocklyn O. Spike and Colleen A. Caroline were joined in holy marriage at St. John Evangelist Church in Little Canada.

Brocklyn formerly farmed in Maple Lake Township and worked for Mueller Pipeliners for thirty years. He was a Construction Foreman.

Five years ago, Brocklyn and Colleen moved to Ottertail County to a lake home.

He enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing, farming, sporting clay shooting, wild flowers and gardening.

Survived by loving wife of thirty-nine years: Colleen; children: Melinda "Mindy" Spike and Sean (Kari) Spike; six grandchildren: Garrett, Claire, Kiera, Jake, Luke and Ava; son-in-law: Dan (Lynn) Zander of Howard Lake; his mother: Lillian (Dean) Randall of Monticello; a sister: Nila Spike of Coco, Florida; step sister: Jody Bolinger of Fort Meyers, Florida; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by a daughter: Rebecca Lynn Zander in 1996, his father: Delton Spike and by a brother Pepal Spike.

Funeral Services for Brocklyn Spike were held on Saturday, September 18th at 10:00 A.M. at The Presbyterian Church in Buffalo. Chaplain Michael Caroline of Apopka, Florida officiated.

Interment followed at The Howard Lake Cemetery.

A visitation was held on Friday, September 17th from 4-8 P.M. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.

Casket Bearers were Bernard Wirtz, Greg Schonauer, Kevin Espelien, Erick Espelien, Brennan Caroline and Garrett Zander.

The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.

Carol Bohanon, 71

Carol Ann Bohanon, 71, of Monticello died at her residence on Tuesday, Oct, 19, 2010.

Visitation Thursday, Oct, 21 from 5-8 p.m. at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 East Broadway, Monticello. There will be Prayer Service at 7 p.m. with Rev. Sherri Sandoz officiating. There will be a private interment at Mound Cemetery of Brooklyn Park.

Clarence Buehl, 78

Clarence Jude Buehl was called to Heaven on October 13, 2010. Clarence was born in Delano on January 7, 1932, the son of Andrew V. and Frances M. (Mross) Buehl. He proudly served his country during the Korean War. He married Lorraine Adeline Rancour in 1958 and they made their home in Buffalo. They were blessed with five children.

Clarence is survived by: his wife, Lorraine Adeline (Rancour) Buehl; children, Karen (John) Bylund, Douglas (Tracy) Buehl, Tammy (Mike) Swenson, Al (Kris) Buehl, and Kelly (Brad) Wurm; grandchildren, Amanda Swenson, Stephanie Swenson, Kevin Bylund, Adam Bylund, Ethan Buehl, Zoe Buehl, and Nicole Wurm; and he was proudly awaiting the birth of his first great-grandchild in January. He is also survived by a sister, Annie Kruzel, and many nephews, nieces and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, George and Leonard Buehl.

A Memorial Mass took place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Buffalo. Visitation was held in the church from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service.

The Peterson Chapel helped the family with arrangements.

LaGretta Dean, 79

LaGretta Dean of Bloomington and Buffalo died on Oct. 10, 2010 at Methodist Hospital.

Preceded in death by: parents, Ted and Hazel Malm, Uncle Pete (Henning) Malm; brothers, John and Malcolm; and sons, Timothy and Daniel. Survived by: husband, Richard; sister, Laila; son, Peter (Susan) Dean; daughter, Becky (Danny) Thomas; grandchildren, Tony Kiefer Dean, Holly Thomas, Alisa Dean, Amy Dean, and Cina Dean; great-granddaughter, Alana Janzen; and nieces and nephews.

LaGretta attended Gustavus Adolphus College and graduated from Control Data Institute. She is a retiree from Hennepin County Data Processing. She helped found free-thought groups, including the Frederick (MD) Secular Humanists, Friends Free of Theism (St. Cloud) and Lake Superior Freethinkers (Duluth). She was an avid supporter of woman's rights.

A memorial open house is taking place on Saturday, Oct. 30 at her Buffalo home between 2-4 p.m. Memorials to donor's choice.
