Mary Ann Sliva

Mary Ann Sliva, 40 of Howard Lake, formerly of Watertown died unexpectedly on Monday, June 7, 2004 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina. She was born to Gary M. Wadding and Gerry M. Lamb in Tacoma, Washington on September 13, 1963.
Mary loved people. She always put her family and friends first. She lived for her family, especially her grandson Tyler. Mary was a spiritual person, finding comfort in the thought of angels and even dreaming of one day being able to swim with the dolphins.
Mary is preceded in death by her grandparents Mac Wadding and Viola Jacobson, Red and Crystal Lamb, Eric Opsahl, Larry Oreskovich and Steven Louis Sliva; nephew Adam Markuson.
Mary is survived by her loving husband Vince; her son Chris Williams; her daughters Crystal Sliva and Angela Sliva; her grandson Tyler Posthumus; parents Gary and Elaine Wadding, Gerry Oreskovich; brothers Jerry and Pat Markuson, Chris and Valerie Markuson, Kevin and Jodi Markuson, Tom and Anna Wadding; sisters Gwen and Jon Aaberg, Robin Mochinski and Lori and Barry Pawelk; nieces and nephews Melissa Markuson, Brad Hoppe, Brian Hoppe, Bobbie Aaberg, Jessie Aaberg, Samantha Jobe, Alayna Markuson, Jennifer Markuson, Toni Markuson, Joshua Kerwood, Bobbie Richardson Jr., Dan Pawelk, Casey Pawelk, Justin Markuson, Kayla Markuson, Jenna Lovins, Emily Wadding and Ethan Wadding.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 11, 2004 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Watertown. Reverend Paul Krentz officiated at the service with concelebrating clergy Rev. Donald Taylor. Music was provided by Lisa LaVito, organist and Mary's sister Robin Mochinski, soloist. Casket bearers were Jerry Markuson, Chris Markuson, Kevin Markuson, Tom Wadding, Jon Aaberg and Barry Pawelk.

Martha Korpela

Martha E. Korpela, 87 of Monticello and formerly of Cokato, passed away Saturday evening, June 12, 2004 at the Park View Care Center of Buffalo. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Cokato with Rev. William Keranen officiating. Interment was in the Finnish Cemetery of Cokato. Visitation held Tuesday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at Peterson - Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello and also one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Wednesday. Funeral arrangements were with the Peterson - Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
Martha was born on October 13, 1916 in Otter Tail County, Minn. to Matt and Elina (Pajumpa) Maunumaki. She grew up in the Otter Tail County area and moved to Minneapolis at the age of 18. On October 24, 1934 she was united in marriage to William Korpela in Wright County.
William preceded her in death in 1983. She lived in Cokato for many years, and had made her home in Monticello since 1977. She was a longtime member of the Finnish Apostolic Church of Cokato. She was also a member of the Monticello American Legion Auxiliary and the Monticello Senior Citizens Center.
She is survived by a son Bill of Hutchinson; three daughters Janet Yerks of Cross Lake, Mary (Emil, Jr.) Dorf of Monticello, Betty (Allen) Prosch of Baxter; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Matt and Elina Maunumaki; husband William; sisters Bertha Maunumaki and Viola Bates and brothers Walfred Mackey, John Mackey and Waino Maunumaki.

Deborah Schnabel

Deborah R. Schnabel, 46 of Buffalo died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at her residence.
Funeral services for Deb Schnabel will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at the Assembly of God Church in Buffalo.
Interment Lakeview Cemetery.
A visitation was held on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 from 5-9 P.M. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. Further visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.

Harvey Sawatzke

Harvey Francis Sawatzke, 75 of Monticello died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at the Monticello - Big Lake Nursing Home of Monticello. Funeral services were held on Wed., June 16, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church of Monticello with Rev. James Tetlie officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery of Monticello. Visitation was held Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church and also one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday. Funeral arrangements with the Peterson - Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
Harvey was born in Delano, Minn. on July 14, 1928 to Edward and Laura (Baldus) Sawatzke. He grew up in the Maple Lake area where he attended school. Following his education, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from April 1951 to March 1953.
Harvey was united in marriage to Darlene Lundquist on July 23, 1955. The couple moved to the Monticello area in 1967. He was employed at United Hardware in New Hope for 23 years. After retirement, he and his wife built a home on Ida Lake in Silver Creek where he enjoyed yard work, bird watching and spending time with his family.
Harvey is survived by his wife Darlene; four sons Brad (Kim) of Monticello, Frank (Wendy) of Minnetonka, Pat (Michelle) of Monticello and Andy (Lisa) of Monticello; thirteen grandchildren; four brothers Marlin (Evelyn) of Buffalo, Don (Jean) of Buffalo, Floyd (Donna) of Maple Lake and George of Rockford; four sisters Doris Sawatzke of Monticello, Laura Mae Hoffman of Howard Lake, Shirley Ponce of St. Louis Park and Carol (Dale) Sieg of Rockford. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Joe and an infant son Marty.

Thomas Kern

Thomas Kern, 42 of Hutchinson passed away June 12, 2004. Survived by wife Jennifer; children Mackenzie, Alexa, Connor and Tori; parents Robert and Violet Kern; brothers Mike (Page) Kern, John (Joan) Kern, Robert Kern Jr.; parents-in-law Luke and Louise Markve.
Funeral service Fri., 11 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1040 South Grade Rd., Hutchinson. Visitation Thurs., 5-8 p.m. and Fri., 8-9 a.m. at Dobratz-Hantge Chapel, 899 Hwy. 15 S., Hutchinson and one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment Oakland Cemetery, Hutchinson. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.

Robert "Hoot" Peterson

Robert J. "Hoot" Peterson, 59 of Maple Plain, formerly of Dubuque, IA, died Saturday evening, June 5, 2004 at Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia, MN.
He was born on Sept. 28, 1944 in Dubuque, son of Theodore E. and Mary (Lelle) Peterson. He worked for Lyons Tree Service and Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque. For the last 7 years he was supervisor for Craft Pattern and Model Co. in Delano. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and life member of North American Hunting Club. Robert loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and horseback riding.
Survived by significant other Marlis Ceaser of Maple Plain; son Robert Thomas of Sioux Falls, SD; three daughters Ruth Johnson of Red Rock, AZ, Patricia Peterson of Middleton, WI and Tammy Davis of Dubuque; stepdaughter Tammy Ceaser of Mound; 2 step grandchildren Jeremy and Jayson Ceaser; nine grandchildren; a great granddaughter; seven brothers, Richard of Red Bank, NJ, George (Joann), Carl (Pat), Ron (Pat), Dave (Joyce), all of Dubuque, Dale (Pat) of Portland, OR, Timothy (Deb) of Troy, MO; five sisters, Kathleen Schumacher, Patricia (Tom) Patterson, Rosalie (Jim) Shaffer, Gwen Peterson, Priscilla Saffran all of Dubuque; many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Theodore D., Robert L., and Theodore E.; sister Marianne Yaeger.
Memorial service Wed., June 16, 7 p.m. at Huber Funeral Chapel, 1801 Commerce Blvd., Mound. Gathering of family and friends one hour prior to service.

Eugene Huncha

Eugene Lambert Huncha, 78 of Delano died on Sunday, June 13, 2004 at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia. He was born September 9, 1925 to John V. and Mary (Lyrek) Huncha on the family farm in Franklin Township, Minnesota.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary Huncha; his brother Valentine and sister Evelyn Popelka. He is survived by his wife Sandra; children Maryann and William Drabelis, Mark Huncha, Debra and Ted Leonard and Helen Huncha; 4 grandchildren Eugene, Charisse, Tyler and Nathan; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Delano. Visitation on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano. A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Visitation continues on Thursday, one hour prior to services at the church. Reverend Michael Miller will officiate at the Mass, with music provided by Therese Borrell, organist and the Resurrection Choir.
Pallbearers will be Bill Drabelis, Theodore Leonard, Eugene Leonard, Tyler Leonard, Nathan Leonard and Charisse Leonard.

Carl Tesmer

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 14, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clear Lake for Carl Tesmer, 89 of Becker, who died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at his home. Burial followed with full military honors provided by the Clearwater American Legion Post 323, at Acacia Cemetery in Clearwater. Friends called from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday at the Daniel Funeral Home in Clearwater and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday, Prayer services were held at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Carl was born on March 14, 1915 in Oronoco, MN. He was the son of Ernest and Louise (Kruger) Tesmer. He served in World War II from 1941-1945 in the Army Air Corps. He was in the Normandy Invasions entering on Utah Beach.
He married Joyce Sheldon on November 28, 1945 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Silver Creek. After their marriage the couple farmed near Lake City until they moved to Clearwater Township in 1955 where they farmed until their retirement in 1988. They then moved to Becker. Carl was employed by T&O Plastics in Clearwater. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Clear Lake and the American Legion Post 323 of Clearwater.
Survivors include his son Bradford (Carol) of Clear Lake and daughters Nancy Moll (Bill) of Clearwater and Sue Lynn Doering (Chuck) of Clear Lake; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by six brothers George (Caroline), Allen (Deloris), Lawrence (Rosie), Edward (Lorraine), Ernest (Margie), Louis (Dee); and one sister Wanda (Richard) Ottoson.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce; his parents; brothers Alfred, Walter, Russell and sister Hazel.

Gregory O'Brien

Gregory R. O'Brien, 41 of St. Cloud died Sunday, June 6, 2004 at his home in St. Cloud.
The funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Assembly of God Church in Willmar with Rev. Keith Kerstetter officiating. Visitation was held 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment at the Oak Hill Cemetery in New London.

Gregory Robert O'Brien was born August 5, 1962 in Minneapolis. He was the son of Rev. George A. and Dorothy (Kalberg) O'Brien. Gregory grew up in Shakopee and in 1971 he moved with his family to Buffalo where he graduated from high school in 1980. In 1987 he graduated from North Hennepin Community College in Minneapolis. Gregory worked at General Mills in Monticello for more than 10 years. He lived in Orange, CA for 8 years where he worked at Walt Disney Associates. In November of 2003 he moved to St. Cloud where he has lived since.
Gregory was a kind, gentle and sensitive man. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing the piano. He had artistic talents such as his knack for home decorating. Gregory was a very well liked person and will be missed greatly.
Gregory is survived by his parents Rev. George and Dorothy O'Brien of Spicer; brothers Michael (Annette) and their children Kyriann, Shannon, Shawn and Samantha of Willmar, Bradley (Jill) and their children Ashley and Kaylee; and his paternal grandmother, Violet O'Brien of New London.

George Japs

George Charles Japs, 88 of Buffalo, formerly of Delano, died on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Park View Care Center in Buffalo. He was born January 9, 1916 to Louis and Martha (Krueger) Japs in Franklin Township, Minnesota.
George was a kind and gentle man. He was known for his helping spirit; always able to give rides to people in the area. He was accomplished at sewing, painting and papering, earning his living doing so most of his life.
George was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Martha Japs; sisters Lydia Bryant, Lillian Heinzen, Addie Farnick and LaVern Wandersee; brothers Louis and Fred Japs. He is survived by his sister Florence Heinzen; brother Albert and Olene Japs and sister-in-law Lorraine Japs; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Delano. Reverend Kenneth Iha officiated with Margaret Groskreutz providing music for congregational singing. Casket bearers were Craig Brandenburg, Terry Cook, Kip Heinzen, Dennis Heinzen, Howard Heinzen and Russell Heinzen.

George "Bill" Robinson

George W. "Bill" Robinson, 82 of Monticello died at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Minneapolis on Wednesday, June 9, 2004.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, June 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church of Monticello with Fr. Tim Rudolphi officiating. Interment at St. Henry Cemetery. Visitation took place Sunday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at Peterson - Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Further visitation was held one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Monday. Funeral arrangements were with the Peterson - Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
Bill was born on January 12, 1922 in Minneapolis to Frank and Helen (Clarke) Robinson. He grew up in the Minneapolis and Robbinsdale areas. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Chief Petty Officer.
On May 6, 1944 he was united in marriage to Bernadette "Bonnie" Gagnon. Bill was employed by the Robbinsdale School District for 27 years. He and his wife made their home in Robbinsdale for 15 years and in the Monticello area for the past 38 years. He was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by five children: Frederick, Christine Robinson (Julie McClung), Peggy Robinson, Frank (Jinna), and Katie (Dave) Alveby; 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Bonnie; three brothers Clarke, Fred and James (Buddy) and a sister Elaine.

Elsie Allen

Elsie (Mrs. David) Allen, age 93, died at the Monticello-Big Lake Nursing Home on Tuesday, June 15. She had lived in the Monticello area.
Reviewal will be Friday, June 18, from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Pelican Lake. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 19, at 1:00 p.m. at the church with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Monticello.
Arrangements with Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, Monticello.
