Joseph Sterner

Joseph Louis "Joe" Sterner, 78 of Winsted and formerly of Waverly died on Thursday, July 29, 2004 at his residence.
He was born on October 18, 1925 near New Germany, Carver County, the son of Frank and Anna Schmidt Sterner.
On July 21, 1948 Joseph L. Sterner and Corina C. Fasching were joined in holy matrimony at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with eight children.
Joe established Sterner Lighting and Sterner Industries. Through the years his responsibilities included all of Sterner's road crews and managing the business. In 1984 he sold the business and began worldwide consulting. Joe traveled extensively and spent more than two thousand hours on planes. He also had his own pilot's license.
Joe was a master steamfitter and a certified welder. He taught steam fitting at Hutchinson Technical College, Willmar Technical College as well as to many employees of Sterner Lighting.
Joe belonged to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted and was a former longtime, faithful parishioner of the Church of St. Mary in Waverly.
He was a member and past president of the Waverly Lions Club and a former Scout Master for seven years.
Survived by children David (Susan) Sterner of Gainesville, Florida, Jeff (Connie) Sterner and Mike (Sandy) Sterner all of Winsted, Gary (Vicki) Sterner of Waverly, Tom (Laura) Sterner and Peggy (Rick) Borders all of Howard Lake, Karen (Joel) Engel of Chaska and Lynn (Charlie) Borrell of Waverly; twenty three grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; sisters and a brother - Marie Kehr of Sun City West, Arizona, Diane (Brendan) Gallagher of Tacoma, Washington, Janet (Louis) Becker of Rockford, Illinois and Gerald (Veronica) Sterner of Victoria; very special friend Sylvia Artmann; a sister-in-law Leona Sterner Hausladen; many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife Corina C. Sterner on October 30, 2000; parents Frank and Anna and by a brother Leander.
A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph "Joe" Sterner was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 2 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Martin B. Shallbetter and Father Paul L. Wolf were the Concelebrants. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Harold Hanson sang "Ave Maria."
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted on Sunday, August 1 from 4-8 p.m. A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m.
Casket bearers were Brian and Todd Sterner, Thomas Borders, Jamie Newcombe, Leonard Foss and Jake Pettit.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.

Alice Rucks

Alice F. Rucks, 80 of Buffalo died Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Buffalo.
She was born July 23, 1924 at Watertown, Minnesota, the daughter of Fred and Anna Oestriech Hoese. She farmed prior to moving to California. When she lived in California she worked as a nurse's aid for many years.
Alice is survived by her children Joyce (Ray) Korblick of Park Rapids, James Rucks of Cold Spring; granddaughter Lori (Loren) Lee of Maple Lake; great grandchildren Brandon, Adam and Rachel Lee; brothers Art (Lou) Hoese of Montrose, Ralph and (Delores) Hoese of Winsted and Ervin (Jeanette) Hoese of Plymouth; sisters Viola White of California, Louise Linbourne of California and Bernice Sommers of Rockford; also nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter and her friend and partner for over 20 years Bob Hale; brothers Marvin and Donald Hoese; sisters Alvera Pautch and Della Peterson; also 4 infant brothers and sisters.
Memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at the Peterson Chapel, Buffalo. Reverend Stephen Smith officiated at the service. Amy Smith was the organist for the service. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service. Interment was at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Pelican Lake.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.

Emily Gilles

Emily M. Gilles, 87 of Buffalo died Friday, July 30, 2004 at Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo.
She was born in Buffalo on June 24, 1917 the daughter of Frederick and Ellen LaPlant Otten.
On June 30, 1936 Emily Otten and Baltis "Oscar" Gilles were joined in holy marriage at St. Francis Catholic Church in Buffalo.
She was a member of St. Henry's Catholic Church in Monticello.
For 30 years Emily worked as an Avon consultant.
Survived by her sons Leonard (Mary) of Maple Lake, David (Barbara) of Hawaii, Anthony (Rena) of Tamarac and Patrick (Lori) of Becker; grandchildren; great grandchildren; brothers and sisters; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband Oscar on October 12, 1970; sons Sylvester and John Gilles; parents Frederick and Ellen.
A Mass of Christian burial for Emily Gilles was held on Monday, August 2, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Maple Lake. Father Mark Huberty was the celebrant.
Interment at St. Henry's Cemetery.
A visitation was held on Sunday, August 1, 2004 from 4-8 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m.
Clifford Otten, Leo Endres, Dennis Muckenhirn, Tom Muckenhirn, Art Otten and Jeff Otten served as casket bearers.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.

Lydia Wandersee

Lydia E. Wandersee, 89 of Delano died on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at the Delano Health Care Center in Delano.
She was born December 6, 1914 to Rudolph and Johanna (Shirr) Topel in Rockford Township, Minnesota. Lydia was baptized into her faith on February 28, 1915 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano. She was confirmed on September 16, 1928 at Mt. Olive and united in marriage on October 22, 1935 to Arthur W. Wandersee also at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano.
Lydia was a lifelong member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur; a daughter Mary; her parents Rudolph and Johanna Topel; son-in-law Gerald Schwerin; sisters Frieda Krause, Clara Bonk, Minnie Radtke, Allie Ramthun, Gladys Ramthun, Helen Franke, and Ethel Block; brothers Bill Topel, Oscar Topel, Hank Topel, Rudy Topel, Kurt Topel and Carl Topel.
Lydia is survived by her daughters Muriel Schwerin, Janice and Andy Beckstrand and Cheryl Wandersee; grandchildren Carolyn (William) Ebbe, Roxanne (Michael) Hoppe, Randy (Gretchen) Schwerin, Dale (Linda) Schwerin, Dean Schwerin, Stephen Johnson, Cory (Colleen) Johnson, Darren (Nichol) Beckstrand, Grant Beckstrand; 15 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law Valeria Topel; special pet Borley; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 31, 11 a.m., at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano. Visitation was on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano. Visitation continued from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Reverend Paul Marggraf officiated at the service with Carol Wendorff, organist, providing music for congregational singing.
Casket bearers were Lydia's grandsons Stephen Johnson, Cory Johnson, Darren Beckstrand, Grant Beckstrand, Randy Schwerin, Dale Schwerin, Dean Schwerin and Michael Hoppe.
Interment at the West Mt. Olive Cemetery in Delano.
Arrangements by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.

Tamera Legerski

Tamera Jean "Tammy" Legerski, 38 of rural Maple Lake and formerly of Sheridan, Wyoming, died at Hennepin County Medical Center of Minneapolis, on July 27, 2004 from injuries received in a motor vehicle accident which occurred in Wright County earlier that same day.
A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Elk River Alliance Church of Elk River, MN. Funeral services and burial arrangements are pending in Sheridan, Wyoming. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Peterson - Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello and Kane Funeral Home of Sheridan, Wyoming.
Tammy is survived by her husband, David Collins; son Blake Spencer Legerski; father Stan (Evelyn) Legerski of Sheridan, WY; brother Tim (Wendy) Legerski of Gillette, WY; sister Jackie (Greg) Lind of Willcox, AZ; half sister Amber Legerski of Sheridan, WY; half brothers Josh Krenzelok and Calvin Garretson, both of Sheridan, WY; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary and grandfather Roy Gillis.

Patricia Kolasa

Patricia M. Kolasa, 68 of Buffalo died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at Park View Care Center in Buffalo.
She was born on September 17, 1935 at Maternity Hospital in Minneapolis the daughter of Daniel and Margaret Miller Damiani.
On August 18, 1956 Patricia Damiani and Stanley Kolasa were joined in holy marriage at the Church of the Ascension in North Minneapolis.
She was a longtime member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Rogers.
Survived by her children: Claire (Bob) Lensegrav of Buffalo, Mary (Tim) Brown of Hanover, Margaret (Rick) Kottke of Jacksonville, Florida, Barb (Dave) Gilles of Monticello, Bernice Dalbec of Delano, Marlene (Bernard) Vetsch of Albertville, Thomas (Dianna) Kolasa of Rogers, Edward (Roberta) Kolasa of Buffalo, John (Danice) Kolasa of Overland Park, Kansas, Stanley (Nancy) Kolasa Jr. of Hanover, Robert (Marne) Kolasa of St. Michael, James (Susan) Kolasa of Rogers and Vern (Peggy) Kolasa of Nisswa; 54 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sisters: Sr. Margaret CSJ and Claire McKinley; brothers-in-law: Frank Kolasa of Buffalo and Joseph (Joan) Kolasa of St. Paul; sisters-in-law: Helen Nolan of Hawaii, Sr. Corrine OSF and Bernice (Elmer) Hilliard of Texas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents: Daniel & Margaret; husband: Stanley in 1995; a son: Anthony in 1978; brothers: James F. and Daniel G. Damiani; brothers-in-law: John Kolasa and Harry McKinley.
A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for Patricia Kolasa was held on Thursday, July 29, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Rogers. Father Martin Fisher and Father Mark Moriarty were the concelebrants.
Interment St. Martin's Cemetery.
A visitation was held on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 from 4-8 P.M. at The Peterson Chapel St. Michael - Albertville Funeral Home. A prayer service was held at 7:30 P.M.
LaVern Kolasa, James Kolasa, Robert Kolasa, Stanley Kolasa Jr., John Kolasa, Edward Kolasa and Thomas Kolasa served as casket bearers.
The Peterson Chapel St. Michael - Albertville Funeral Home served the family.

Anthony Berning

Anthony "Tony" H. Berning, 66 of Albertville died Sunday, July 25, 2004, peacefully at his home after a short battle with cancer.
He was born at home in Albertville on March 13, 1938 the son of Walter H. and Isabelle I. Dahlheimer Berning.
On October 4, 1969 Tony Berning & Barbara Friedges were joined in holy marriage at All Saints Catholic Church in Lakeville, Minnesota.
He was a lifelong member of St. Albert's Catholic Church in Albertville where he also belonged to the Knights of Columbus.
Tony enjoyed dairy farming at his farm north of Albertville.
Survived by his loving wife: Barbara; children: Mary Berning (Geno Carty), Cathy (Rick) Mertens, Tom (Kristen) Berning, Patty, Betty, Judy (fiance Charles Stech) and Danny Berning; grandchildren: Nicholas Mertens, Brad, Dan and Chris Carty; a brother: Bob (Sharon) Berning; a sister: Margaret (Floyd) Goenner; a brother-in-law: Nick Friedges; 5 nephews; many relatives & friends.
Preceded in death by 2 daughters: Theresa and Ann-Marie; his parents: Walter and Isabelle Berning.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Tony Berning was held on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Albert's Catholic Church in Albertville. Father Peter Richards was the celebrant. Wayne and Mary Lou Kolles were the musicians.
Interment St. Albert's Cemetery.
A visitation was held on Tuesday, July 27, 2004, from 4-8 P.M. at the church. A prayer service was held at 7:30 P.M. Further visitation was held one hour prior to the mass on Wednesday.
Wayne Kessler, Paul Barthel, Joe Barthel, Steve Goenner, Collin Ruch, Lloyd Beaudry, and Bill Berning served as casket bearers.
The Peterson Chapel St. Michael - Albertville Funeral Home served the family.

Lydia Martin

Lydia J. Martin, 92, formerly of Hanover and Hill City died Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at Sunrise Cottages in Buffalo.
She was born in Greenwood Township, Hennepin County on February 9, 1912, the daughter of William and Augusta Bechtold Reich.
Lydia was baptized on February 25, 1912 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenwood Township. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith on April 5, 1925 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church.
On May 18, 1932 Lydia Reich and Raymond Martin were joined in holy marriage at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mr. and Mrs. Martin engaged in farming near Hanover for many years.
Mrs. Martin was a faithful member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield. She also belonged to Salem's Ladies Aid and its Mother's Club.
She was a former member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids.
Mr. and Mrs. Martin moved to a lake home near Onamia in 1967 and later moved to Hill City. Raymond O. Martin preceded his wife in death on July 22, 1998. Lydia moved to Buffalo in August of 2000.
Survived by children Mavis (James) Moe and Nancy Fixmer all of Hill City, Clyde (Maureen) Martin of Hanover and Sandra (Tom) Sleypen of Buffalo; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; a sister Mildred Oliver of Hill City; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her husband Lydia was preceded in death by a son Orley Martin; a son-in-law Jerry Fixmer; her parents William and Augusta Reich; a brother Herman Reich and sisters Mabel Reich, Elsie Strehler and Emma Loeffler.
Funeral services for Lydia Martin were held on Friday, October 8 at 1 p.m. at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield. Pastor Dennis K. Strong officiated and interment followed at Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
Organist for the funeral service was Jan Nelson. Kelsey Tenney was the soloist and she sang "I'll Fly Away." Congregational hymns were "Beautiful Savior, " "What a Friend We have in Jesus" and "Amazing Grace."
Friends called on Thursday, October 7 at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael - Albertville Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. A Prayer Service was held at 7 p.m.
Honorary casket bearers were Curt Yotter, Mike Tenney, Andy Klennert, Mick Niles, Jeff Eccles and Tom Carlston.
Casket bearers were Tim Moe, Tom Moe, Ron Martin, Charlie Martin, Bob Martin and Brandon Sleypen.
The Peterson Chapel St. Michael - Albertville Funeral Home served the family.
