Riley Mujwid

Riley Louis Mujwid, 17 year old resident of Buffalo died Monday, February 7 in Wright County, as a result of injuries received in an auto accident.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 12 at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo with Rev. John P. Folkerds officiating. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Peterson Funeral Chapel in Buffalo with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continued one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Music was provided by Diane Johnson on the organ, Karin Wickman on the piano and Dan Wickman as soloist. Musical selections were "Children of the Heavenly Father" and "Jesus Loves Me" as congregational hymns and "On Eagle's Wings" as a solo.
Honorary pallbearers were Michael Christensen and Cord Paumen. Casket bearers were Colt Kraczek, Holten Lubinski, Brady Thomson, Nicholas Anderson, Kyle Smallwood and Chad Stuhk.
Riley Louis Mujwid was born on September 3, 1987 in Robbinsdale, the son of Ronald Louis Mujwid and Heidi Ann (Emerick) Mujwid. He was baptized on December 6, 1987 at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo and confirmed on May 18, 2003. He grew up in Buffalo where he attended school through the 7th grade. He moved to Farmington where he attended 8th and 9th grade and then to Chaska for 10th grade. He returned to Buffalo last fall for his junior year of high school. Riley worked part-time at Chaska Mill Restaurant while living in Chaska and most recently at Buff-n-Glo in Buffalo.
Riley loved to snowboard, skateboard and tinker with cars. His dream was to go to school in California to learn about car detailing. He enjoyed spending time with his sisters. Many of his family and friends experienced his teasing. In his short life, Riley brought much joy to his family and friends with his sense of humor. He will be remembered for his big heart and sensitivity to the feelings of others.
Riley was in his junior year at Buffalo High School and attended Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo.
Survivors include his father Ronald Louis (Tera Schusted) Mujwid of Lino Lakes; mother Heidi Ann (Michael Weeks) Mujwid of Buffalo; sisters Mikayla Mujwid of Buffalo and Skylar Antil of Buffalo; grandparents Sharon (Chuck Hulse) Emerick of Elk River, Donald Emerick of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Marge Mujwid of Rice Lake, WI; great grandparents Ardella (Bob) Runchey of Alamo, TX and Tony Szymula of Exeland, WI; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Preceded in death by his grandfather Louis Donald Mujwid.
The Peterson Chapel of Buffalo served the family.

Genevieve Henk

Genevieve A. Henk, 91 of Waverly and the mother of Dr. Edward Henk of Buffalo and Randy Henk of Waverly died Monday, February 14, 2005 at her residence.
A visitation was held on Wednesday, February 16 from 4-8 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m. Further visitation will be held on Thursday morning, February 17 one hour prior to Mass at the church.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Genevieve Henk will be held on Thursday morning, February 17 at 10:30 at the Church of St. Mary in Waverly. Father Timothy Cloutier will be the Celebrant and interment follows at St. Mary's Cemetery.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.

Sylvia Kramer

Sylvia I. Kramer, 88 of Buffalo died Saturday evening, February 12, 2005 at Lake Ridge Care Center.
She was born on September 14, 1916 in Webster, South Dakota the daughter of Fred and Martha Wolf Premus.
On January 29, 1938 Sylvia I. Premus and Alfred R. Kramer were joined in holy marriage in Minneapolis. God blessed their marriage with two sons.
Sylvia worked for more than thirty years at Control Data.
She enjoyed sewing, especially making quilts, doll clothes and embroidering dish towels.
Sylvia belonged to the Church of St. Francis in Buffalo and was a former member of the Church of St. Walburga in Fletcher.
Survived by sons Al (Marlene) Kramer of Buffalo and Gene (Pat) Kramer of Rogers; grandchildren David (Kelly) Kramer, Laura (Greg) Kramber, Jeffrey (Christine) Kramer, Brett (Bobbie) Kramer, Anthony and Russell Kramer, Shannon (Trent) Snyder and Amy (Jeremy) Evans; fifteen great grandchildren; sisters Minnie and Goldie; other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband Alfred R. Kramer Sr. on December 28, 1977; her parents Fred and Martha Premus; four brothers and three sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sylvia Kramer was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 16 at the Church of St. Walburga in Fletcher. Father Mark D. Moriarty was the Celebrant and interment followed at St. Walburga Cemetery.
Friends called on Tuesday, February 15 from 6-8 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael - Albertville Funeral Home.
Casket bearers were Tony Kramer, Russ Kramer, Jeremy Evans, David Kramer, Jeff Kramer and Brett Kramer.
The Peterson Chapel St. Michael - Albertville Funeral Home served the family.

Adeline Nelson

Adeline R. Nelson, 89 of Shakopee died Friday, February 13, 2005 at Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Shakopee.
She was born in Northwood, North Dakota on January 30, 1916 to Carl O. and Amy (Tornbum) Hovland. She married Noel A. Nelson on July 22, 1934 in Minneapolis.
Prior to retirement Adeline worked as a house cleaner.
Survived by daughters and son - Shirley Curtis of Mound, Janice Lavoie of Shakopee, Noel Nelson Jr., of Shakopee, Jill (Gary) Grindle of Annandale, Jodie Arfman of St. Louis Park; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.
Adeline was preceded in death by her husband Noel on February 10, 1988.
Funeral service was held on Sunday, February 13, 2 p.m., at Cavanaugh - McNearney Funeral Home in Shakopee. Reverend Les Galland officiated at the funeral service. Interment at Sunset Memorial Park in Minneapolis.

Russell Pettit

Russell Ervin Pettit was born July 22, 1927 in Stockholm Township, Wright County, Minnesota, the son of Paul E. and Ollie G. (Bogart) Pettit. He was baptized at the Church of Christ in Howard Lake on December 10, 1939 and confirmed in his faith on December 8, 1946 at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake.
On October 26, 1946 he married M. LaMae Shepperd. They were lifelong residents of Howard Lake, where they raised their 10 children. Russell worked at Shepperd Motor Co. and in 1960 opened an insurance agency, which he operated until his retirement in 1995. For a number of years he also drove special needs children to area schools.
Russell was an active member of St. James Church, serving as President of the congregation, an elder and on the various boards. He was faithful in his study of the Bible, attending regular and special Bible class groups. Researching the Bible and discussing Christianity were activities he enjoyed.
During World War II he served his country in the Coast Guard. He also served as Commander of the American Legion Post 145 and was an active member.
While at home on February 5, 2005, Russell Pettit was peacefully called to be with the Lord, having reached the age of 77 years, 6 months and 14 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, David.
Survivors include his wife and their children: sons and their families, James (Jan), Matthew, Jamie, Annie; Jonathan (Dorothy), Josie, Jake, J.J., Jane, Josef; Jerry (Lynette), Ryan, A'ndrea; Joel (Kristen), Valerie, David; Jeffrey (Connie), Alex, Olivia; Jay, Chelsea, Cassandra; Daniel (Barbara), Eryn, Allyson; Jesse (Michelle); daughters Mary and Melissa; also five great grandchildren.
He is further survived by brothers Paul (Jan) and Leslie (Kathy); brother-in-law Joe (Judy) Shepperd; sister-in-law Marge (Neil) Stueven; along with aunts, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Interment at the St. James Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ryan Pettit, Matthew Pettit, Jake Pettit, David Pettit, J.J. Pettit, Alex Pettit and Josef Pettit.
Officiating at the funeral service were Reverend Michael Nirva and Reverend Martin Schoenfeld. Special music provided by Valerie (Pettit) Johnson with Nancy Butterfass serving as accompanist and organist.
The Swanson - Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake served the family.

Vivian Leukuma

Vivian Myrtle Gladys Leukuma was born April 17, 1918 in Cokato to Helmer and Hildegarde (Jatko) Abrahamson. She attended country schools at Knapp and Ojanpera. She was confirmed in her faith on July 3, 1932 at the Cokato Finnish Apostolic Church.
On June 23, 1937 Vivian was married to William Leukuma in Dassel. The couple were longtime members at North Crow River Lutheran Church at Knapp. William passed away in 1992.
Vivian passed away at the Cokato Manor on February 6, 2005. She had reached the age of 86 years, 9 months and 20 days.
She is survived by her son David (Kathy) Leukuma of Annandale; grandson Jeffrey (Kathy) Leukuma of Cokato; granddaughters Karn (Scott) Anderson of Rogers and Anne (Michael) Salvatore of Eagan; 5 great granddaughters; 3 great grandsons; step grandchildren Collette (Patrick) Snyder of Rosemont and Eric Spielmann of Big Lake; 2 step great granddaughters and sister Marlys Miller of Dassel.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents and husband William.
Services were held Friday, February 11 at North Crow River Lutheran Church. Clergy: Rev. Michael Nelson. Music by Lynda Peterson and Amy Thostenson.
Casket bearers were Scott Anderson, Jeffrey Leukuma, Darrel Miller, Steven Miller, Tony Morris and Michael Salvatore.
Interment at Cokato Finnish Cemetery.

Cecelia Ebert

Cecelia L. Ebert, 89 of St. Bonifacius died Thursday, February 10, 2005 at her home in St. Bonifacius.
She was born at St. Bonifacius on September 4, 1915, the daughter of John and Cecelia (Ditsch) Heitz. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in St. Bonifacius.
On Nov. 3, 1938 she married to Roman G. Ebert at St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Cecelia's greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She lived her entire life in St. Bonifacius and was an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. She also took part for many years in the St. Bonifacius Senior Citizens. Cecelia enjoyed playing cards, baking pies and cooking.
Cecelia was preceded in death by her husband Roman; parents John and Cecelia Heitz; brothers Clemence, John Paul, Herbert, Elmer and Alfred Heitz and sister Olivia Ess.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Allen and Pat Ebert of Waconia; daughter and son-in-law Marge and Bob Zrust of Buffalo; grandchildren Mark Ebert, Christine Ebert, Kathy and Joe Anderson, Brad and Sue Zrust, Molly and Dean Perry and Ted and Kim Zrust; great grandchildren Derek, Emily, Jordan, Samantha, Ben, Cameron, Avery, Ellie and Zachary; brother and sister-in-law Art and Ceil Heitz of Maple Plain; sisters Leona Schmidt of Prior Lake, Theresa Reus of Victoria, Flora Stein of Mound, Nora Theis of Prior Lake; sister-in-law Marie Heitz of Maple Plain; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Leona Schuler of Mound, Frances Born of Chaska, Beatrice and Ray Sicheneder of St. Bonifacius; Peggy Ebert of Hutchinson, Vera Ebert of Montgomery, Marvin Geyen of Mound; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, Feb. 14, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Father Joseph Gallatin officiating. Interment was at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
Casketbearers were her grandchildren.

Reuben Schmalz

Funeral services celebrating the life of Reuben Schmalz, 86 of rural Lester Prairie were held Saturday, February 12, 2005 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Officiating was the Rev. Gerald Schwanke. The organist was Mary Mielke and the soloist was Franklin Schoenke who sang "Amazing Grace." The congregational hymns were "Lift High The Cross, " "Rock Of Ages" and "Onward Christian Soldiers."
Serving as casket bearers were Reuben's grandchildren: Garrett Engelhardt, Melanie & Josh Eckstein, Phillip Schmalz, Megan Schmalz and Jeremy Williams. Honorary casket bearers were also his grandchildren: Kaylan Engelhardt, Krista Mehrl, Brandon Jilek and Anika Jilek.
Visitation was held Friday evening at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
Reuben Emmert Schmalz was born on July 4, 1918 in Winsted Township, McLeod County to William and Emma (Meyer) Schmalz. He was baptized July 18, 1918 by Pastor Walter Baumhoefner and confirmed into the faith on April 9, 1933 by Pastor J.A. Schert of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
Reuben was proud to be an American at an early age. When he found out that he and President Coolidge shared 4th of July birthdays, he sent a greeting card to the President. To Reuben's delight, President Coolidge replied with Happy 8th Birthday wishes to him dated July 1, 1926.
He attended school in Winsted Township and completed the eighth grade. He farmed alongside his father until he was called to active military duty on June 17, 1941.
He served his country stateside for 4 years as a supply sergeant training tank destroyer operators. He was commissioned abroad on June 1, 1945 traveling and serving in Australia, India, Burma and China. He went over 32, 000 miles in 6 months, making him one of the most traveled G.I.'s from McLeod County at that time. Reuben was honorably discharged from his World War II service on January 21, 1946. On October 6, 1946 he was appointed as a member of the McLeod County Draft Board and served for 3 years at the onset of the Korean War.
Reuben married Lavilla Schoenke of New Germany on June 14, 1947. Reverend John W. Meyer officiated the celebration at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in New Germany. Their union was blessed with 6 children. Reuben and Lavilla enjoyed farming together at the Schmalz homestead in Lester Prairie. For three years, Reuben attended evening agricultural classes in the late 1940s.
He was honored in 1948 as one of the best DeKalb corn producers in the area. In 1953, he was awarded the Grand Champion prize, 1st place, in the white category at the Egg Institute. He was honored by the University of Minnesota in 1963 for being one of nine top swine producers in the state.
In between family and farming responsibilities, Reuben faithfully served his Lord as Congregation President, Elder, Trustee and chaired the building committee after the 1965 tornado destroyed St. Peter's church and school. He was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Laymen's League and served as chairman of the circuit.
He was a board member of the Cooperative Elevator in Lester Prairie for 12 years and noted chairman the later half of his term. Reuben served as a bank director of Farmer's State Bank for 15 years. He was a director of the MN Valley Breeder's Association Board.
The University of Minnesota chose Reuben and Lavilla to travel to Europe, Asia and Russia on a goodwill ambassador agricultural tour for three weeks in 1968. He continued to serve his country as a member of the American Legion Post 453 for 58 years and served as an adjutant chaplain and post commander.
His greatest accomplishment of his life was to lead and guide his children as it says in Deuteronomy 11:18-22: "To hold God's word in his heart, to claim God's truth as a sign to teach them to his children as he sat, as he walked, as he lied down, and as he lived his life to the fullest."
On February 8, 2005, Reuben Emmert Schmalz entered his eternal rest at his home at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 4 days.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son Jerry, deceased at the age of 18 on January 1, 1972; brothers, Andrew Schmalz and Alfred Schmalz; and sister, Rose Zena Siewert.
Reuben is survived by his wife Lavilla of Lester Prairie; children Jacalyn Engelhardt (husband: Bill) of Plymouth, Nathan Schmalz (wife: Jacqueline) of Lester Prairie, Beverly Gilligan (husband: Gene) of Anoka, Mary Jo Mehrl (husband: Rev. Klaus Mehrl) of Shorewood, IL and Lisa Jilek (husband: Jerry) of Minnetrista; grandchildren: Garrett Engelhardt, Kaylan Engelhardt, Melanie Eckstein (husband: Josh), Phillip Schmalz, Megan Schmalz, Jeremy Williams, Krista Mehrl, Brandon Jilek and Anika Jilek; sisters-in-law, Irene Schmalz of Lester Prairie and Mary Krekelberg of Le Seuer; brother-in-law, Franklin Schoenke of New Germany; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Arrangements were with the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
