Mary Babatz

Mary J. “Mae” Babatz, 94, formerly of Montrose, died Monday, November 17, 2008 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
She was born on February 17, 1914 the daughter of Peter and Margaret Gallus Pollock.
On February 7, 1933, Mary J. “Mae” Pollock and William M. Babatz were joined in holy marriage at St. Mary’s of Czestochowa of rural Delano. God blessed their marriage with four children. Mr. and Mrs. Babatz engaged in dairy farming southeast of Montrose, in Franklin Township, Wright County for many years. The couple moved into the City of Montrose in September of 1992.
Mae was a longtime, faithful member of the Church of St. Mary in Waverly.
Survived by loving children, James W. Babatz of Excelsior, Deloris M. (Charles) Klopp of Buffalo and William J. (Marlette) Babatz Jr. of Montrose; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Babatz of Montrose; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband, William M. “Bill” Babatz Sr.; a son, Donald T. Babatz; grandsons, Mark Babatz and Dennis Babatz; a daughter-in-law Patricia C. Babatz; parents, Peter and Margaret Pollock; a brother Joe Pollock and by sisters, Laura Gnitka and Evelyn MacLean.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mae Babatz was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21 at the Church of St. Mary in Waverly. Father Timothy Cloutier was the Celebrant. Interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
A visitation was held on Thursday, November 20 from 4-8 p.m. at the church.
Casket bearers were Tim Babatz, Greg Babatz, Jeff Kalinowski, Charles Klopp, Alan Babatz and Danny Miesen.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.

Ashley Buskey

Ashley Lynn Buskey, 20 of Monticello and formerly of Buffalo, died Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at University of Minnesota Hospital.
She was born on August 4, 1988 in Buffalo, the daughter of Bill Buskey and Wanda Brown. Ashley graduated from Buffalo High School in 2007. While in high school, she enjoyed volleyball and was a very good student. She was always fond of children and hoped one day she could be a daycare provider.
Ashley is survived by her parents, Bill (Mary) Buskey of Buffalo and Wanda (Mike McParland) Brown of St. Cloud; sisters and brothers, Kate (Eric) Hodgson, Jenny (Wade) Venstad, Ben (Marci) Meyer, Bill Buskey Jr., Jeremiah Buskey, Elizabeth Buskey, Julia Brown and Brandi McParland; grandparents, Joan Buskey of Salt Lake City, UT, Julie Brown of Buffalo, John (Mary Ann) Anderson of Ft. Myers Beach, FL; nieces, Ava Grace and Sophia Paige Venstad and Shelby Elsie Meyer; godmother, Martha (Steve) Broyles; aunts, uncles, cousins and boyfriend, Justin Gertsema.
Ashley was preceded in death by her grandfather, George Buskey; uncle Robert Buskey; grandmother, Elsie Anderson; grandfather, Warren Brown and cousin, Grace Brown.
A funeral service for Ashley Lynn Buskey was held on Sunday, November 23, at 3 p.m. at the Buffalo Evangelical Covenant Church. Pastors Carl L. Taylor and Val Pederson officiated. Interment in St. Timothy’s Cemetery in Maple Lake.
Pallbearers were Jeff Brown, uncle, Bill Buskey Jr., brother, Ben Meyer, brother, Jeremiah Buskey, brother, Nick Buskey, cousin and Andrew Buskey, cousin. Honorary pallbearers were Jon Meyer, brother, Ryan Erickson, cousin and Mark Erickson, cousin.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.

Darlene Kern

Darlene Kern, 73 of rural Waverly, died Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
She was born on July 17, 1935 in Eureka, South Dakota, the daughter of Reinhold and Martha Eiseman Wanner.
Darlene was baptized at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church by Reverend Freyman in Wishek, North Dakota. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith in 1949 at St. Luke’s by Reverend T.F. Doyen.
On January 21, 1962, Darlene Wanner and Wallace Kern were joined in holy marriage in Bismarck, ND. God blessed their marriage with three sons.
Darlene was formerly employed as a medical secretary for a clinic in Bismarck, ND.
She enjoyed sewing and gardening.
Darlene was a faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.
Survived by loving husband Wallace E. Kern; sons, Ronald Kern of Watertown, Randall Kern and Gregory Kern, both of Dassel; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Barb Smith of Howard Lake, Bea (Don) Zellman of Arlington, Waldemar (Gretta) Kern of Waverly and Warren Kern of Howard Lake; many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents Reinhold and Martha Wanner.
Funeral services for Darlene Kern were held on Tuesday, November 25 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. Pastors Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiated. Interment St. James Cemetery. Nancy Butterfass was the organist.
A visitation was held on Monday, November 24 from 4-8 p.m. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted with a prayer service at 7:00.
Further visitation took place one hour prior to services at the church on Tues., Nov. 25.
Casket bearers were Jon Smith, Sherwin Schwartzrock, Jeff Smith, Nathan Zellmann, Charlie Kern and Wyatt Kern.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.

Eldon Mauk

Eldon Stephen Mauk, 64 of Osseo, formerly of Buffalo and Howard Lake, died Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.
He is survived by children, Jeff Mauk and Janel (Paul) Skubic, granddaughter Madison Skubic, siblings Lou Jenkins, Harvey (Linda) Mauk, Lester (Rita) Mauk, Eileen Potter, Teri (Bob) Thurber and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by parents Steve and Loretta Mauk and sister Evelyn Krohn.
Eldon was a proud laborer who worked 37 years at Anchor Block Co. in Brooklyn Park. He loved gardening, spending time with his granddaughter, volunteering with the American Legion and generously helping his neighbors and family.
Funeral service was held Oct. 18th at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly; interment at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Waverly.

Betty Jean Powers

Betty Jean Powers, 69 of Sheldon, North Dakota and formerly of Buffalo, Minn. passed away on Wed., Nov. 19, 2008 at Mary Hill Manor in Enderlin, ND.
She was born on Sept. 13, 1939 in Delano, the daughter of Leland and Reva Pool Sutton and a sister to Marion Sutton, Ruth Bauman and Leona Clark.
Betty was formerly employed at the Minneapolis Post Office.
She was a faithful member of the Buffalo United Methodist Church in Buffalo, belonged to a Christian Women’s Group and loved to travel.
She is survived by her husband Vincent E. Powers, Enderlin, ND; children, Mark (Marcell) Warren of Willernie, MN, Deb (Chuck) Van Sloun of Chaska, Bob (Lisa) Warren of Harrisonburg, VA, Pat (Dan) Mohs of St. Charles, Ella (Ken) Arneson of Clearwater, Sally (Mike) Sandry of Lafayette, IN, Ken (Chris) Warren of Roseville and Marie Batson of Des Moines, IA; eighteen grandchildren and also great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth (Fran) Bauman of Delano and Leona (Danny) Clark of Sheldon, ND; other relatives and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Leland and Reva Sutton and by an infant sister Marion Sutton.
Funeral services for Betty Powers were held on Saturday, November 22 at 11 a.m. at the Buffalo United Methodist Church, Buffalo. Pastor Jef Olson officiated and interment followed at Lewis Cemetery in Maple Plain.
Casket bearers were her grandsons, Chad Ingersoll, Mitch Ingersoll, Josh Mohs, Trevor Mohs, Anton Arneson, Nat Arneson, Dakota Warren and Connor Sandry.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.

Myrtle Schlagel

Myrtle M. Schlagel, 90 of rural Howard Lake, died Thursday, November 20, 2008 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
She was born on October 5, 1918 in Lester Prairie, the daughter of Joseph and Matilda Emme Posusta.
On September 18, 1940, Myrtle M. Posusta and Donald F. Schlagel were joined in holy marriage at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted by Father Wey. God blessed their marriage with six children. Myrtle and Don engaged in dairy farming for many years.
She was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
Myrtle enjoyed gardening, dancing, baking, going to casinos, going out to eat and she loved to travel.
Survived by her children: David H. (Mary E.) Schlagel of Forest Lake, Gary A. Schlagel of Howard Lake, Diane M. (Clem) Bayerl of Winsted, Cindy L. (Donald J.) Laxen of Howard Lake and Galen G. Schlagel of San Diego, CA; seven grandchildren: Jason (Jennifer) Schlagel, Alyssa Matheis, Kristen Schlagel, Scott (Pam) Bayerl, Frank (Tammy) Bayerl, Candice Laxen and Daniel Laxen; nine great-grandchildren; a brother Ray (Rose) Posusta of Cokato; a sister Dorothy Ernhart of Park Rapids; a brother Irvan (Marge) Posusta of Glencoe; sisters-in-law, Mary/ Gilbert Schlagel and Betty/ Alden Schlagel; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband Donald F. Schlagel; a daughter Beverly; grandson Joey Bayerl; her parents Joseph and Matilda Posusta; two sisters, Evelyn Posusta and Lenora Pokorney; a brother Wilfred Posusta and by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Myrtle M. Schlagel was held on Saturday, November 22 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father William Sprigler was the Celebrant. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
A visitation was held on Friday, November 21 from 4-8 p.m. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted with a prayer service at 6 p.m.
Casket bearers were Daniel Laxen, Jason Schlagel, Scott Bayerl, Frank Bayerl, Private Jsonin Dilley, Tyler Bayerl and Joey Bayerl.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.

Dorothy Smith

Dorothy L. Smith, 90 of Rogers, died Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids.
She was born on January 9, 1918 in Madelia, Minn. the daughter of William and Margie Moses Hayden.
On September 18, 1937 Dorothy L. Hayden and Kenneth L. Smith were joined in holy marriage in Jordan, Minn. God blessed their marriage with seven children.
Dorothy was formerly employed at Munsingwear as a knitter. She also was the regular school bus driver for St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran School in Maple Grove for fifteen years and was a substitute driver for St. John’s for another five years.
She belonged to The Fish Lake School’s Mothers Club and was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maple Grove.
Survived by loving children: Eleanor J. Winebrenner of Rockford, Elaine J. (Glen) Dolieslager of Maple Grove, Eileen J. Smith of Delano, Arnold K. (Kathleen) Smith, Bruce L. (Jane) Smith and Eugene G. Smith all of Rogers and Ronald P. (Julie) Smith of St. Michael; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by husband Kenneth L. Smith on August 21, 2003; her parents, William and Margie Hayden; a brother Howard Hayden in 1993 and by an infant sister Edith C. Hayden.
Funeral services for Dorothy Smith were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 25 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maple Grove. The Reverend Steven C. Briel officiated and interment followed at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested for either The American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
The Peterson Chapel St. Michael - Albertville Funeral Home served the family.
