Bert Edward Nordlie

Dr. Bert Edward Nordlie, age 67, of St. Cloud, Minnesota died on June 5, 2003 of complications from a previous spinal cord injury.
He was born in Denver, Colorado to Gordon E. and Madeline B. Nordlie.
Bert spent his childhood in Denver, Colorado and graduated from Denver’s South High School in 1953 with honors.
He was an accomplished pianist and studied piano at the prestigious Lamont School of Music.
He was a standout athlete in football, track and swimming. Bert was an all-state athlete excelling in an almost unheard combination of the discus, shot put and backstroke swimming events. He held the Colorado state record in both the discus and shot put and won the Colorado AAU backstroke that same year.
He was active in several organizations while at South High, and enjoyed numerous outdoor activities with his family. During the summers he worked with his father in commercial construction.
Bert attended the University of Colorado on an athletic scholarship for football where he played fullback and linebacker. He received his Bachelor of Science (1960) in Geology graduating with honors. He then attended the University of Chicago where he earned his Master of Science degree (1962) and PhD (1967).
He married Margaret ‘Peggy’ Jane Brummett on August 18, 1957 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
Bert was a Associate Professor for the Geology Department, University of Arizona from 1968 - 1974, and a Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Earth Sciences at Iowa State University (ISU) from 1974 - 1999. His numerous honors included; Emeritus Professor of Geology and Atmospheric Science, Distinguished Member United States Geologic Society of America, sitting member on the ISU Athletic Department Board, National Geologic Society of America and National Rifle Association.
Additionally, Dr. Nordlie traveled the world on numerous expeditions to study volcanoes and their origin. He is most noted for technical discoveries on the famed Galapagos Island Chain - Ecuador, Iceland’s Sertsy Volcano and volcanic sulfur deposit studies throughout Kenya - Africa.
His lifelong interests included carpentry work, mineral and numismatic collections, hunting and fishing.
He leaves his sons, Curt E. Nordlie (wife - Catherine) of Maple Lake, Minnesota and Lt Col Craig W. Nordlie (wife - Janet) currently of Yorktown, Virginia; his mother, Madeline B. Nordlie of Denver, Colorado and sister, Karen J. Carpenter of Menlo Park, California; 9 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
His wife, Margaret ‘Peggy’ J. Nordlie and father, Gordon E. Nordlie preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. on Monday, June 9 at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake, Minnesota. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14 at Steamboat Springs Cemetery, Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where he will rest next to his wife, Peggy.
Arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care, Maple Lake, Minnesota.

Alvina E. Olson

Mrs. Alvina E. Olson, age 93, formerly of Annandale died Sunday, June 1, 2003 at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center where she has been a resident the past 2 years.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Annandale with Rev. Scott Jakel officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Monticello. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a prayer service 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Alvina Elizabeth Olson was born July 5, 1909 in Meservey, IA to Lulof and Hannah (Suntken) Kaduce. She married David E. Olson on January 5, 1928 in Alexander, IA and he preceded her in death in 1963. She was a homemaker and a cook in various Annandale restaurants for 20 years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and enjoyed being with family and friends.
She is survived by her two children and their spouses, David & Betty Olson of Annandale, Lavone & Gordon Pribyl of Maple Lake; sister, Helen Caywood of Mason City, IA; brother, Louie (Edith) Kaduce of Meservey, IA; sister in law, Freda Kaduce of Belmond, IA; 3 grandchildren, Bruce Olson of Kimball, Carl (Judy) Olson of Olympia, WA, Faye (David) Vorgert of Monticello; 7 great-grandchildren, Jessica, James, Brian, Michelle, & Matthew Olson, Rick Bronstad, and Kara Vorgert; also several nieces, nephews, and friends. She
was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Theodore Kaduce; and sisters, Louise Cooper, Lavonne Martin, and Dora Boelman.
The pallbearers will be Bruce, Jessica, James, Brian, & Michelle Olson, and Kara Vorgert. The music for the service will be provided by Orma Lou Jacobsma, organist and Floyd Brown, soloist.
The arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.

Joel Ervin Berscheid

Joel E. Berscheid, age 20, of Kimball died Thursday, May 29, 2003 due to injuries received in a car accident in North Kingston Township, Meeker County, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2003 at St. Anne`s Catholic Church, Kimball with Rev. Frank Tomasiewicz officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball. There will be a prayer service 7 p.m. Sunday.
Joel Ervin Berscheid was born December 1, 1982 in St. Cloud to Duane E. and Renee J. (Marschel) Berscheid. He lived in Kimball all his life where he graduated from Kimball High School in 2001 and was a member of St. Anne`s Catholic Church where he was an altar server for many years. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron #261. Labor Ready of St. Cloud currently employed Joel. He loved the outdoors, fishing, music, movies, and the Wright County Swappers Meet.
Joel is survived by his parents, Duane & Renee Berscheid of Kimball; sister, Shelly and husband, Gerry Spoden of Hawick; grandmothers, Alvina Berscheid and Leona Marschel both of Kimball. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Ambrose Berscheid and Arnold Marschel; uncles, Eugene Berscheid and John Santone.
Pallbearers will be Tony Schmidt, Al Nelson, Lucas Brugger, Shawn Voigt, Kevin VanVleet, and Brent Hamilton.
Music provide by Frosty Schiefelbein and St. Anne`s Choir.
Arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Kimball, MN.

David Allen Grabham

David Allen Grabham, age 61, of Annandale passed away unexpectedly from natural causes May 28, 2003 at home.
Private family interment will be held Saturday, May 31, 2003 in Woodlawn Cemetery, Annandale with a celebration of Dave`s life to follow on July 4, 2003.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald C. & Grace A. (Allen) Grabham; grandparents, Charles W. & Carrie L. Grabham. David was a loving husband and is survived by his wife and best friend of 34 years Judy (Wilder) Grabham. Proud father and best friend to 3 sons, Bradley (Robin) and their son, Riley, Scott and friend, (Tracy), and Jeff. Loving brother of Douglas (Lonnie) and their children, Drew (Cheryl), and Andrea. Loving son in law of Pete & Ellen Wilder; brother and sister in law, Pete & Mary Wilder and their children, Pete Jr. and his children, Curtis and Nathan, Kristie (Chris) Paulson and their son, Matthew, and special great niece AJ Kelly. Not to be forgotten are his Golden Retriever buddies, Mollie & Maggie who along with everyone he touched will miss him very much.
David graduated from the University of Minnesota. He attended law school at the University of Kansas and received his doctorate of law at New York University. His career spanned 28 years with Honeywell, Inc. For the past 6 years Dave enjoyed retirement at his home on Clearwater Lake, Annandale, MN. Prior to moving to the lake, Dave and his family lived in Minnetonka, MN where he was an active member of the community. Dave will be remembered for his contagious smile and gentle spirit.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dave`s name to; Annandale Library Fund, c/o of Annandale State Bank, PO Box 310, Annandale MN 55302.

Anna Marie Waddell

Anna M. Waddell, age 84, of Annandale died Thursday, December 16, 2004 at the Annandale Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Annandale with Fr. Victor Valencia officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Friends may call from 5-7:30 p.m. Monday and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale. There will be a 7 p.m. prayer service on Monday. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society. Anna Marie Waddell was born December 25, 1919 at Morris to August and Delores (VanSlyke) Schmidt. She married Bruce H. Waddell October 24, 1942 in Chicago. She was a homemaker and has lived at Annandale the past 15 years, previously living in Cologne and Bloomington. Anna was a member of St. Ignatius Church and enjoyed bird watching and living on the lake. She was a proud mother of the family she raised. She is survived by her husband, Bruce Waddell, Sr. of Annandale; children & their spouses, Bruce, Jr. & Kathy of Salt Lake City, UT, Judy & Mark Stoffer of Stillwater, Jennifer Waddell & Daryl Anderson of Monument, CO, Stephen & Becky of Buffalo, Jeffrey Waddell & Lynn LeBoutillier of Elk River; brother, David Schmidt & his wife, Charlene of Jacksonville, FL; 10 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson. Her infant daughter, Melinda Sue and brother, Robert Schmidt preceded her in death. The pallbearers will be Jeffrey Waddell, Jennifer Waddell, Judy Stoffer, Bruce Waddell, Jr., Craig Waddell, and Dave Schmidt. The St. Ignatius Guitar Group will provide the music for the service. The arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.

Eugene Paul Charboneau

Eugene ‘Gene’ P. Charboneau, age 72, of Moose Lake formerly Barnum, died surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 20, 2004 at Miller Dwan Medical Center, Duluth.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 23, 2004, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake with Father Eamonn Boland officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Barnum. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday at the church. There will be a prayer service 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Eugene ‘Gene’ Paul Charboneau was born March 19, 1932 in Crookston, MN to Paul and Mary Louise (Fortier) Charboneau. He was a 1950 graduate of Cathedral High School, Crookston and married Betty J. Evenson June 14, 1952 in Crookston. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his Country during the Korean Conflict. Gene lived in Green Bay from 1960 until moving to Barnum in 1966, and has lived in Moose Lake since 2001. From 1966-1978 Gene was the grocery manager at the Moose Lake Co-op and from 1979-1984 he owned and operated Gene’s Super Saver in Barnum. Gene loved his family, church, the Green Bay Packers, golfing, music, and woodworking.
Gene is survived by his wife, Betty of Moose Lake; 10 children and their spouses, Linda (John) Pennekamp of Parker, CO, James (LuAnn) of Barnum, Diane (Don) Schlafer of Eagan, Jean McGrady of Hill City, Nancy (Doug) Hoffman of Barnum, Susan (Kevin) Amundson of McGregor, Cari (David) McMillan of Duluth, Mary (Mike) Messina of Maple Lake, Peter (Jean) of Worthington, and Julie (Chris) Langlee of Duluth; sisters, Beatrice LaLibertie and Madonna Brusseau; in-laws: Lloyd Dearey, John & Cookie Evenson, Nonie & Jack White; and 29 attentive and loving grandchildren, Adam & Jordan, Jennifer, Jesse (Joanna), Natalie (Greg) & Elizabeth, Amy & Matt, Dianna (Jeremy), Erica & Andrea, Missy, Tracy, Travis, Ben, Shadee, & Summer, Mary & Andrew, Michael, Anthony & Dominic, Alex, Lauren & Alissa, C.J., Cierra, & Dalton, and Chase; also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clem; and sisters, Luella Dearey and Lorraine Brekken.
Pallbearers will be Adam Pennekamp, Jennifer Charboneau, Amy Schlafer, Dianna Schutrop, Missy Amundson, Mary McMillan, Michael Messina, and Alex Charboneau. Music for the funeral provided by Regie Garvey, Michael Anderson, Missy & Tracy Amundson.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Hospital and Health Care Center and Miller Dwan Medical Center for their love, support, and very special care.

Sandra Joyce Lund

Sandra J. Lund, age 55, of 11004 Peloquin Ave. NW, South Haven died Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at the Annandale Care Center.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 19, 2004 at the Annandale Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Denny Johnson and Rev. Danville Swanson officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Annandale. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Saturday and 1:30-2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Annandale Evangelical Free Church. There will be a 7 p.m. prayer service Saturday at the church.
Sandra Joyce Lund was born August 21, 1949 in St. Paul to Kenneth C. and Lenore M. (Irber) Johnson. She married Curtis J. Lund December 27, 1969 in Annandale. Sandy was a para professional for Annandale Schools and for the past 5 years was a dental assistant, most recently at General Family Dentistry, Dassel. She was a member of Annandale Evangelical Free Church. Sandy lived a life serving God and her family selflessly. She enjoyed coffee breaks, crafts, running, and spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She fought cancer courageously for the past several years.
She is survived by her husband, Curtis of South Haven; children & their spouses, Shane & Dawn Lund of South Haven, Julie & Tim Ellis of Montrose, Tammy & Rick Wikan of Zimmerman; 4 grandchildren, Hunter & Payton Lund, Kendra Ellis, & Hayden Wikan, her mother, Lenore Johnson of Annandale; and brother, Richard Johnson of Minneapolis. Her father and grandparents preceded her in death.
The pallbearers will be Jeff & Nathan Gloege, Peter, Mitch, & Mike Erickson, and Dan Lund. The music for the service will be provided by Terry Greener, soloist and Mary Manselle, organist. The arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.

James Charles Gunnary

James C. Gunnary, age 74, of 12384 County Road 37 NW, Annandale died Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at the Buffalo Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 20, 2004 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, French Lake with Rev. Edward Groop officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, French Lake Township, Wright County. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a 7:30 p.m. Sunday prayer service.
James Charles Gunnary was born October 25, 1930 to Emil B. and Esther (Enbysk) Gunnary in French Lake Township on the farmstead he lived his entire lifetime. He attended Gunnary School for grades 1-8 and then graduated from Annandale High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and married Shirley Ann Clark on June 29, 1963 in Minneapolis. Jim was a farmer, former member of the Annandale Creamery Board & Annandale School Board, a founding board member of Wright County Vocational Technical School, and a lifetime member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed bowling for over 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann of Annandale; sons, Emil Burton of Annandale, Joseph Charles of Waverly, Peter James & his wife, Natalia of Annandale; grandson, Jeremy John; brother, Wallace & his wife, Barbara of Annandale; sisters & their husbands, Phyllis Hoeker of Springfield, VA, Helen & Alex Paterson of Silver City, NM, Celia & Gail Hopkins of Des Moines, WA, Jean & Dick Ritchie of Huntington Beach, CA, Josie & Sid Goemer of Darwin, Teddy & David Kothe of Mound, and sister in law, Betty Gunnary of Annandale. Brothers, Benjamin and Thomas preceded him in death.
The pallbearers will be Brad Paumen, Colin Alama, Roger Rimpy, Neil Korhonen, Jim Lantto, and Bill Dolzal. The honorary pallbearers will be Howard Hokkanen, Harry Gunnerson, and Lyle Nelson. Margaret Groop will provide the music for the service. The arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.

Edna Agnes Steman

Edna Scanlon Steman, age 100, of Maple Lake died Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at the Annandale Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2004 at St. Timothy`s Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Fr. Mark Huberty officiating. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Chatham Township. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. Edna Agnes Scanlon Steman was born February 3, 1904 at Montrose to Patrick and Ellen (Grattan) Galvin. She married Joseph Scanlon November 23, 1926 in Waverly and he preceded her in death on July 9, 1971. She married Michael Steman on May 9, 1975 in Maple Lake and he preceded her in death on January 9, 1982. Edna was an elementary school teacher for 40 years, retiring in 1970. She taught in rural schools and later in Monticello and Maple Lake. She was a member of St. Timothy`s Church, Council of Catholic Women, SAM Quilters, and Maple Lake VFW Post #7664 Auxiliary. She was a volunteer driver for Wright County and enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She is survived by three daughters, Eileen Norris of Beaverton, OR, JoAnne Streich of Springfield, Rita Paumen & her husband, Orville of Maple Lake; sister, Helen Kespohl of Buffalo; 19 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands; 7 brothers & sisters; grandson, Larry Paumen; sons in law, Ray Norris & Virgil Streich.

Calvin John Schlagel

Cal J. Schlagel, age 63, of 2380 62nd Street NW, Maple Lake died Saturday, December 11, 2004 at the Monticello-Big Lake Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Maple Lake with Rev. Richard C. Mark officiating. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake and one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a prayer service 7 p.m. Tuesday. Calvin John Schlagel was born the youngest of 13 children on December 29, 1940 at Winsted to George and Catherine (Paul) Schlagel. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1963. He lived at Maple Lake the past 30 years and married Diane Koontz November 5, 1977 in Maple Lake. Cal was employed by Great River Energy of Elk River for over 30 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, American Legion Post #131, VFW Post #7664, Union Local IBEW #160, and was a life member of the Minnesota Jaycees. He enjoyed his granddaughters, cooking, camping, spending time in Arizona, and his dog, Shayla. He is survived by his wife, Diane of Maple Lake; son, Brad & his wife, Lynn of St. Michael, granddaughters, Rebecca & Megan of St. Michael; and sisters, Glenda Laswell of Anoka, Bernadette Blue of Coon Rapids, Joan (Vetsch) Tholkes & her husband, Matt of Buffalo. His parents, 6 brothers, and 3 sisters preceded him in death. The pallbearers will be Jim Nemec, Denny Sandberg, Glen Combs, Greg Thomes, Bill Vetsch, and Tom Hetland. The arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Maple Lake.
