Nuss, Sister Frances Marie
Sister Frances Marie Nuss, 87, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, Minn., who served in domestic care, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at Assisi Heights, Rochester.
Born Frances Philipine Nuss on February 5, 1915 in Dickinson, ND, Sister Frances Marie entered the Franciscan Congregation from St. Pius Parish in North Dakota. She made profession of vows in 1941 and began her ministry of care at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester. She also served at Mercy Hospital, Portsmouth, Ohio and then as a patient visitor at St. Mary's Hospital until her retirement to Assisi Heights in 1991. She celebrated her diamond jubilee in 2001.
Sister Frances Marie is survived by her Franciscan Community and by three sisters, Pauline Weiler of Great Falls, MT, S. Joan Nuss of Bismarck, ND, and Agatha Thoene of Hartington, NE.; and a brother, Jerome Frank of Mott, ND.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, July 19, at the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes, Assisi Heights with Rev. Gerald Conway officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
Wendt, Marian
Marian Wendt, age 85, of Fountain City, WI, died on Saturday, September 21, 2002 at Lake Winona Manor.
Marian was born on October 16, 1916 in Fountain City, WI to Henry and Emma (Schroeder) Klein. On December 30, 1941, she married William H. Wendt at Christ Lutheran Church, Cochrane, WI and he preceded her in death on June 2, 1995.
Marian was a life long resident in the Fountain City area and prior to her marriage worked at various farms taking care of the children. After marriage she helped William on their farm, where they used horses for the work instead of tractors. She also enjoyed gardening. She was a member of St. Michael's Ev. Lutheran Church, Fountain City, WI.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William; one brother Dr. Martin Klein; eight sisters, Clara Mertes, Elsie Jestus, Esther Marsolek, Velma Blue, Mildred Glowacki, Vernice Schroeder, Emma Engel, Linda Engel and three infant sisters.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 25, 2002, 2:00 PM at St. Michael's Ev. Lutheran Church, Fountain City, WI with Rev. Elroy V. Conradt, officiating. Interment will be at Fountain City Public Cemetery, Fountain City, WI.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 24 from 5 to 8 PM at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Fountain City, WI and at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service. Tuesday evening at 7:30 PM there will be a prayer service at the funeral home.
Casket bearers Ed Aldinger, Walton Haeussinger, Richard Suhr, Jess Heuer, John Sutter, and Jess Veraguth.
Honorary casket bearers will be Louis Duellman, George Brandt, Joe Greshik, Willis Stuber, David H. Bork, Mike Aus, Charles Brown, and Francis Zepp.
Memorials may be directed to the Organ Fund at St. Michael's Ev. Lutheran Church or the charity of the donor's choice.

Marian Wendt, 85, of Fountain City, Wis., died Saturday, September 21, 2002 at Lake Winona Manor.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, at St. Michael's Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Rev. Elroy V. Conradt officiating. Burial will be in Fountain City Public Cemetery.

Estella R. Smith, 85, of Rochester, Minn., died Saturday, September 21, 2002 at Bear Creek Care Center.
A Funeral Mass was offered Tuesday, September 24, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rochester, with Rev. Timothy Reker officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
Holzworth, Dorothy M.
Dorothy M. Holzworth, 87, died Saturday, September 21, 2002 at Lake Winona Manor.
Dorothy was born December 8, 1914 in LaCrosse, Wis., to Ezra and Lucy Boardman Wilkins. She married Fred J. Holzworth on December 23, 1930 in Winona. She lived on Garvin Heights until moving to Winona in 1958.
She is a member of St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Winona Friendship Center and its Choral Group.
She is survived by three sons, Walter (Maurine) Holzworth, Roy (Diane) Holzworth and John Holzworth, all of Winona; a daughter, Jeanette (Bernard) Pruka of Winona; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Dominic Galewski of Winona; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on January 8, 1967, her parents, one brother and five sisters.
Funeral services were Tuesday, September 24, at St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Henslin officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Casketbearers were grandsons, Curt, Scott, Rod, Jeff and Brian Holzworth and Nicholas Pruka.
Memorials may be directed to St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church or Lake Winona Manor.

Harmel, Sylvia
Sylvia Harmel, 83, formerly of Worthington, Minn., died Monday, August 5, 2002, at St. Anne's Extended Healthcare in Winona.
Funeral services were Thursday, August 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Worthington, with Rev. Larry Brixius officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Worthington.
DuVal, Frieda E.
Frieda E. DuVal, 89, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of rural Norton Township, Minn., died Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque.
Graveside burial services were Saturday, August 10, at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Norton Township, near Winona.

Delores Moham, 60, Lewiston, Minn., died Monday, August 5, 2002 in a one-vehicle automobile accident near Lewiston.
Funeral services were Friday, August 9, at Grace Lutheran Church in Stockton, Minn.
Wachowiak, Gertrude C.
Gertrude C. Wachowiak, 97, formerly of 959 East King St., died Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at St. Anne Extended Healthcare.
Gertrude was born in Winona on March 2, 1905, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Bunik) Wachowiak.
She retired from Montgomery Ward.
Gertrude was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Harvest House, and St. Anne Extended Healthcare Auxiliary.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Friday, August 9, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with Rev. Milo Ernster officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Weid, Diana Mae
Diana Mae Weid, 61, of Roberts, died suddenly Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at the Baldwin Area Medical Center.
Diana was born on September 17, 1941 in LaCrosse, Wis., the daughter of Charles and Ethel Duell.
Diana leaves to celebrate her life her husband, Richard; children, Rick Salwey of Stockton, Minn., Cory (Pamela) Salwey of Winona, Pat (Debbie) Salwey of Galesville, Wis., and Michael Salwey of Winona; four grandchildren, Ashley, Nicholas, Jillyan and Joshua Salwey; step-grandchild, Samantha Simon-Salwey; a sister, Virginia (Dale) Ebersold of Vincennes, Ind.; and brothers, David (Leslie "Punk") Duell of Trempealeau, Wis. and Charles "Art" (Patricia) Duell of Trempealeau, Wis.
Her parents preceded her in death.
A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, August 10, in Baldwin, with Pastor Paul Lovestrand officiating. Burial was in the Jackson Cemetery in Webster.

Luhmann, Ralph A.
Ralph A. Luhmann, 81, of Minneapolis, Minn., passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2002.
He served in World War II in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired employee of General Mills.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Amanda Luhmann, and a sister, Marjorie Cizek.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Leota; daughters, Karen Perak, Judith (Mike) Kuseske, and Cynthia (Victor) Martinez; grandchildren, Sarah (Jonathan), Rachel (Dan), Mary, Michelle, Alex, Carlos, Brandon and Tiffani; a brother, Everett (Doris); sisters, Gladys, Phyllis, Iris and Audrey (Ron); nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery.
