Robinson, Eleanor Walker

Eleanor Walker Robinson, 89, a resident of Winona for over four years, died Thursday, August 1, 2002 at Lake Winona Manor.
Eleanor was born on September 19, 1912, in Melrose, Mass., to Edgar and Effie Carter Walker.
She attended drama school and worked for the Fireside Bookstore in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. She was an actress and a dramatic reader.
She married Charles E. Robinson in Melrose in June 1931. Prior to coming to Winona, she had lived in Alexandria, Louisiana and Chagrin Falls.
She is survived by a son, David E. (Christine) Robinson of Winona; three daughters-in-law, Mai, Susan and Christine Robinson; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeannette Hapgood of Danvers, Mass.; and longtime friend, Murial Stoner of Chagrin Falls.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Charles E. and James A. Robinson, and a sister, Dorothy Poole.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 17, at 11 a.m., at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 455 South Baker Street, Winona, with Christine Robinson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, cards and memorials are preferred to Homer and Immanuel United Methodist Churches.
Martin-Myhre Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

Moham, Delores

Delores Moham, 60, of Lewiston died Monday afternoon in a one vehicle automobile accident one mile west of Lewiston on Highway 14.
She was born November 23, 1941 in Wisconsin to Raymond and Mary (Christ) Moham. Delores lived in the Lewiston area her entire life. She has worked for RTP of Rushford for many years.
Delores was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Stockton.
Survivors include a daughter Laura (Steve) Larimer of Lewiston, a grandson Dakota, three brothers, Harold Moham of Winona; Leonard Moham of Johnson City, TN; and Robert Moham of Cokato, MN, five sisters Doris Zimmerman of White Bear Lake, MN; Mary Lou Sim of McMinnville, TN; Virginia Moham of Stewartville; Susan Moseman of Oregon and Heidi Anderson of Tracy, MN. A stillborn daughter, her parents, one brother Richard and a sister Charlotte preceded her in death.
Funeral Services were Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Stockton. Hoff Funeral Home's- Lewiston Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.

Evans, Charles W.

Charles W. Evans, 68, of LaCrescent died Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston. Charles was born on January 21, 1934, at Money Creek, Minn. to Harold and Florence (McElmury) Evans. He graduated from Houston High School in 1951 and from Winona State College in 1966. He taught for two years at LaCrescent High School. Charles operated Evans Orchard for seven years, and then sold the business. He was an over the road truck driver for 24 years. On October 25, 1952 he married Amy Carlson at the South Ridge E.U.B. Parsonage in rural LaCrescent. He was a member of the South Ridge United Methidist Church in rural LaCrescent where he had served on the church board. Charles is survived by his wife, Amy; two sons: Mark Evans of Hokah, Minn. and Jon Evans of Coral Springs, Fla.; two grandsons: Richard and Gregory Evans, both of LaCrosse, Wis.; one sister, Lois (Ivan) McElhiney of LaCrescent; two nephews: Sheldon (Teresa) McElhiney of Oak Harbor, Wash. And Quintin (Chris Bundy) McElhiney of LaCrosse, Wis.; four great nieces and nephews and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2002, at the South Ridge United Methodist Church in rural LaCrescent with the Rev. Lora Sturm officiating. In accordance with Charles wishes, his body will be cremated following the funeral service and his cremated body will be placed in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in LaCrescent at a later date. The visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Hoff Funeral Homes ­ Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. The family prefers memorials to be directed to the South Ridge United Methodist Church or to the Valley View Nursing Home.

Pietsch, Freda J.

Freda J. Pietsch, age 103, died on Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at Lake Winona Manor.
Freda was born on July 14, 1899 in Winona, MN to Beno and Mary (Krall) Ahrens. She was married to Otto Paul Pietsch and he preceded her in death on January 26, 1969. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Winona and Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #141, Winona.
She is survived by two sons, Paul (Yvonne) Pietsch, Cedar Falls, IA and Thomas A. Pietsch of Deer Park, WI; two grandchildren, Kurt (Teresa) Pietsch and Lori (David) Newbrough; three great grandchildren; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Robert in infancy; parents; two brothers Walter Ahrens and Ben Ahrens; two sisters Hattie Ahrens and Ella Ahrens and a daughter-in-law Lauray Pietsch.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 21, 2002 at Central Lutheran Church, Winona with Rev. Scott Olson, officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Visitation will be Saturday, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Central Lutheran Church, Winona.

Anderson-Pierce, Helen

Helen Anderson-Pierce died Thursday, September 19, 2002 at Lake Winona Manor.
Helen was born December 10, 1909 in Park Rapids, Minn., to John and Mary Humphrey. She grew up in Deerwood, Minn. and received her degree in dietetics from the University of Minnesota. She served an internship in Grasslands Hospital in Westchester County, NY. and was employed in dietetics in Binghamton, NY and the Public Health Service Hospital in White Sands, NM
She married J. Donald Anderson of Clarinda, Iowa, on April 7, 1940. He died July 22, 1965 in Des Moines, Iowa where they had lived since 1945. He had a dental practice in Des Moines and she had worked as a dietitian at Iowa Methodist Hospital. She was a member of Grace Methodist Church in Des Moines.
In 1977 Helen moved to Sun City, Ariz., where she married Norman O. Pierce of Denver, Colo. on January 26, 1978. He died in October 1989.
Others who preceded her in death include her parents, one brother, John Humphrey and three sisters, May Schabaker, Vivian Hewer and Susan Dickson.
Helen is survived by a son, Joseph H. Anderson (Cindy) and granddaughters, Kristin and Sarah of Huntington Beach, Cal.; a daughter, Susan Briggs (Robert) and grandson, Stephen (Jenel) and great-grandson, Carter, all of Winona; a sister, Margaret Milne of Fullerton, Cal.; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Clarinda, Iowa.
Arrangements are being completed by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Winona.

Slaggie, Viola I.

Viola I. Slaggie, 91, of 460 West Fourth St., died Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at Lake Winona Manor.
She was born in Winona on May 15, 1911 to William and Martha (Braatz) Reinke. She married Raymond John Schultz in November 1935 in Winona. He died December 9, 1953. She then married Arthur Slaggie in 1967 and he too preceded her in death in April 1979.
Viola had been a clerk for F.W. Woolworth of Winona for 22 years, retiring in 1976.
She is a member of St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church, Winona. Viola was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.She loved gardening and was a big Twins fan.
She is survived by a son, William (Mary) Schultz of Winona; daughters, Sherrie (Charles) Knopp of Winona, Janice Heller, and Nancy (Gregg) Radefeldt, both of Lindstrom, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, an infant brother and a grandson, Charles Knopp, Jr.
Funeral services were Saturday, September 21, at St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church., with Rev. James Nelson officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Casketbearers were Bill Knopp, Jeff and Mark Schultz, Trent Hoff, Brian Thompson and Mike Drazkowski.
Honorary bearers are her granddaughters, Nancy Knopp, Jennifer Knopp Thompson, Kelly Radefeldt, Kristine Drazkowski and Libby Hoff.
The family requests memorials be given to St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church, Lake Winona Manor or the donor's choice.

Rislow, Harvey M.

Harvey M. Rislow, 72, of Route 1, Lewiston, Minn. (Fremont), died Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at Pine Medical Center, Sandstone, Minn.
Harvey was born on the family farm in Fremont on October 15, 1929, to Herman and Mary Olson Rislow. He married Renata Radsek on June 10, 1950, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nodine, Minn.
He was a self-employed farmer his entire working life, and was still helping on the family homestead.
He is a member of St. Paul's UCC & ELCA Church in Lewiston, and held various church offices. He is also a member of Winona Nor-Win Lodge 505, Sons of Norway. He was on the board of Tri-County Electric since 1972 and served as its chairman since 1976. He was on the board of Selectus Energy and represented Tri-County Electric on the Minnesota and Wisconsin Association of Cooperatives (MAC & WAC), and was president of the local Lutheran Brotherhood Branch of Lewiston.
He is survived by his wife, Renata; four sons, Richard (Valerie) Rislow of Lewiston, Charles (Doris) Rislow of LaCrescent, Minn., Timothy Rislow of Lewiston and Thomas (Debra) Rislow of Onalaska, Wis.; ten grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn McCready of St. Charles, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Madelyn and Theone, and brother, Benard.
Funeral services were Friday, September 20, at St. Paul's UCC & ELCA Church in Lewiston, with Pastor Roy H. Rogers officiating. Burial was in Fremont Scotch Cemetery.
Casketbearers were Harvey's grandchildren, Chad, Kevin, Trevor, Benjamin, Michael and Rosanna Rislow.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Building Fund or the donor's choice.

Schwanke, William Donald

William Donald Schwanke, 76, of 453 Maceman St., Winona, passed away Friday, September 20, 2002 at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.
William "Buck" was born April 1, 1926 in Winona, to William F. and Lucy B. (Schulz) Schwanke. He attended Winona High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He married Betty Nelson in 1947 and she preceded him in death in 1963. On January 23, 1965 he married Mildred Marie Ehmcke.
He worked for Swift and Company in Winona and later went into his own business. During his retirement he enjoyed fishing and working at Freddy's Float, Fountain City, Wis.
He was a member of St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church and the VFW.
William is survived by his wife, Mildred of Winona; two daughters, Sandra (Keith) Burlingame of Cameron, Wis., and Nancy (Richard) Strelow of Houston, Minn.; thirteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one stepson, Gerald (Karen) Lappier of Rochester, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Douglas of Fountain City, Wis.; two sisters, Joan Uhl and Marilyn (Doug) Lande, all of Winona; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Betty, and a stepson, Fred Douglas.
Memorial services will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, September 22 at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, with Rev. James Nelson, pastor of St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of service.

Holger, Cora M.

Cora M. Holger, 85, of Rushford died, Monday, September 16, 2002, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. She was born on October 28, 1916, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin to Carl and Mary (Stensgaard) Dahl. She was raised in Yucatan and rural Rushford and graduated from Rushford High School in 1934. Cora attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. for one year and then returned home to help her parents with the farm. On June 8, 1946, she married Kermit Holger at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Peterson, Minn. They built a home in South Rushford and Cora lived there until shortly before her death. Cora was an active member of Rushford Lutheran Church and its women's groups. She was co-president of the Miriam Circle for many years. Cora was an excellent cook, an accomplished seamstress and an avid gardener. She was a member of the Rushford Garden Club until it was disbanded. Cora will always be remembered as a loving daughter, wife mother and grandmother. She is survived by four children: David (Willa) Holger of Ames, Iowa, Mary (Gregg) Larson of Eagan, Minn., Carl (Sue) Holger of Rushford, and Ann (Larry) Bartelson of Rushford; eight grandchildren: Beth (John) Toth, Katherine Holger, Jon, Joseph, and Jaclyn Holger, Andrew and Karen Bartelson and Erik Larson; one brother-in-law, Morris (Clarrisa) Holger, and one niece, Karen (Dennis) Peterson. Cora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother-in-law, John (Lorene) Holger, and one sister-in-law, Agnes (George) Overland. The funeral service was Friday, September 20, 2002, at Rushford Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Watson officiating. Burial was in the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.
