Boyce, Vivian B.

Vivian B. Boyce, 86, of Rochester, MN., died Thursday, Sept. 26th at her home.
She was born in Pleasant Hill Township of Winona County on Nov. 18, 1915 to Willie K. and Caroline V. (Strupp) Beach.
She married Darrel W. Boyce in July 1934, he preceded her in death on May 10, 1960.
In 1964 she moved from Winona to Rochester where she owned rental property and worked as a receptionist for Schmidt Printing for 10 years. She then worked in the same capacity for E. K. Williams Co. for 6 years. Following that she purchased the Dairy Queen in Zumbrota, M.N. in 1979. After selling the Dairy Queen in 1985 she moved back to Rochester where she worked for Dison's Cleaners for 3 years. In 1990 she purchased Rochester Floral, which she sold in 1995 due to health problems. In 1998 she sold her home and moved to her daughter Sandra's home.
Vivian is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Ronald) Glaunert, LaCrosse, WI., Sandra (Roger) Erickson, Rochester, MN.; five grandsons, Kevin (Neva) Glaunert, Kendall (Stacey) Glaunert, Curtis (Beth) Glaunert, Craig (Deanna) Glaunert and Timothy (Mary) Braatz. Six great grandchildren; nephew, Keith (Nancy) Beach, Winona, MN. and a niece, Dorinda (James) Randall, Claremont, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Raymond Beach.
Vivian enjoyed sewing, interior decorating and flowers.
Funeral services for Vivian were on Monday, Sept. 30th at the Fawcett- Junker Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Hurmence of Central United Methodist Church, Winona officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Casket bearers were her grandsons, Timothy Braatz, Kevin, Craig, Curtis and Kendall Glaunert and also William Beach.

Bollin, Norman

Norman Duane Bollin, 62, of 5067 West Ninth Street, Goodview, died Saturday, September 28, 2002 at his home. He was born in Parker Township of Morrison County, MN. on May 19, 1940, the son of Otto and Luevern (Taylor) Bollin.
He married Selma Petersen, they were later divorced. He then married Laurel Guenther on May 27, 1994 at the Rose Garden in Winona.
Norn was the production manager for TRW of Winona.
He attended Central Lutheran Church and is a member of Winona Elks Lodge #327.
Norm enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors.
Norm is survived by his wife Laurel; son, Rick (Sherri) Bollin, and their children, Michael and Megan of St. Louis Park, MN.; daughter, Lori (Brian) Dille, and their daughter, Jacy of Lakewood, CO.; brothers, Melvin (Pat) Bollin, Whitesboro, TX. and Alfred (Rose) Bollin, Little Falls, MN.; step sons, Robert Guenther and James (Jenna) Guenther and their son, Cody, all of Lanesboro, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Steven and a brother, Gordon.
A memorial service for Norm was held on Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at 11:00A.M. at Central Lutheran Church, Rev. Scott Olson officiating. Entombment of his cremated remains was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Schuh, Maurice F.

Maurice F. Schuh, age 88, of Saint Anne Extended Healthcare, Winona, died on Saturday, August 24, 2002 at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.
Maurice Francis Schuh was born on July 26, 1914, in Rollingstone, MN to John J. and Sophia (Feil) Schuh.
He graduated from Winona State college where he played in the Hal Leonard Band and later earned his Certified Life Underwriters Degree from Bryn Mawr College.
He taught school for five years and was a band director in the United States 147th Army Division in the Pacific during WW II. After he returned from the service, he sold insurance.
He married Cecilia M. (Sally) Schad on May 13, 1944 at St. Joachim Catholic Church, Plainview, MN and moved to Winona in 1947 where he was an insurance underwriter. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, American Legion Club, Kiwanis Club, Elks Club, Westfield Golf Club, Upper Mississippi Jazz Society and Gate City Jazz Band, which he helped organize. Maurie's musical abilities were well known in the area and brought much joy to many.
He was a past state co-chairman of the Heart Association and member of the Corporate Heart Fund Board. Also, a past member of St. Mary's Church Council and Finance Committee. He owned the Post Office building in Elgin, MN for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Sally, Winona; two sons, William (Chiu Chiung) Schuh, Mandan, ND and Gregory Schuh, Fountain City, WI; two daughters Anita (Joe) Sabol, Bloomington, MN and Marianne Dussel, Apple Valley, MN; ten grandchildren: Christopher (Brittany) Sabol, and John and David Sabol, Cecilia (Joe) Cooley, Mary, Jack and Ann Marie Schuh, and Jonathan, Meghan and Kristen Dussel; two brothers, Harold (Carol) Schuh, Winona and Jack Schuh, St. Joseph, MN; four sisters, Laura Schuh, La Crosse, WI, Elaine Moravec, Norwell, MA, Virginia Chalupsky, Hutchinson, MN and Mary Gosse, Wabasha, MN; a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Mike) McCullough, Laguna Woods, CA, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bob Schuh and an infant son, David Schuh.
The grandsons will be the casket bearers.
Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Winona with Rev. Joseph L. Keefe, officiating. Entombment was at St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona. Veterans military burial rites were conducted by the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post #9, Winona.
Arrangements are being completed by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

Nintemann, Sister Jocelin

Sister Jocelin Nintemann, 92, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, Minn., who served as an educator, died Friday, August 23, 2002, at Assisi Heights, Rochester.
Born Anna Elizabeth Nintemann on November 19, 1909 in LaCrescent, Minn., Sister Jocelin entered the Franciscan Congregation in 1931 from Crucifixion Parish, LaCrescent. She made profession of vows in 1934 and began her teaching ministry at St. Kilian Parish, St. Kilian, Minn. She taught in various schools in Minnesota including Caledonia, Easton, Sleepy Eye, North St. Paul and Springfield. She taught at St. Pius X Parish, Rochester from 1972-82 and from 1982-94 Sister Jocelin was missioned to St. Charles, Minn. where she was parish visitor and also cared for aging members of her family. She celebrated her diamond jubilee in 1994 and retired to Assisi Heights.
Sister Jocelin is survived by her Franciscan Community.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, August 26, in the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes, Assisi Heights, with Rev. Dean Marek officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

Sullivan, Alpha "Bonnie" Johnson

Alpha "Bonnie" Sullivan, 87, of Spring Park, Minn., and formerly of Winona and Minneapolis, passed away.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 28, in Lakewood Cemetery, 3600 Hennepin Avenue S., Minneapolis. There will be no visitation or reviewal.

Edel, Gertrude M.

Gertrude M. Edel, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, embraced eternal life on Saturday, August 24, 2002 at St. Anne Hospice Extended Healthcare.
Born Gertrude Marie Kiefer at the family farm near Cayuga, ND., to Charles and Clara (Washtok) Kiefer on August 6, 1911, she came to Winona to attend Cathedral High School, chosen because her aunt was a Franciscan nun living in Winona. She graduated from Cathedral in 1930 and taught grade school until she married Rudolph Edel on June 20, 1932. Rudy was a Winona native and chemist for 49 years at Bay State. They spent their married lives in Winona, residing at 1887 West Fifth Street.
Gertrude was a member of St. Casimir's Parish.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Susan); grandchildren, Thomas (Susan) Edel, Terri (Mark) McPherson, R. Scott (Jeri) Edel, David (Tami) Edel, and Sara Edel; great-grandchildren, Kate McPherson, Mitchell McPherson, Alexander Edel and Josie Edel; and her siblings, Harry Kiefer of Lidgerwood, ND, George "Pete" Kiefer of Cayuga, ND, and Sister Patrice Kiefer of Alexandria, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
Her husband, parents, a son, Thomas, and siblings, William, Ralph, Charles, Raymond and Helen preceded her in death.
Her great love was children, first her own, then her grandchildren, and most recently and especially her great-grandchildren. She received immense satisfaction from baking, cooking and creating a home atmosphere, which she missed while a resident at St. Anne's.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 29, in the Chapel of Our Lady at St. Anne Extended Healthcare. Friends may call Thursday at St. Anne's from 12 noon until the time of the Mass. Rev. James W. Hennessy will officiate. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Donald Kukowski, Thomas Edel, David Edel, R. Scott Edel, Terri McPherson and Sara Edel.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society as cancer took the lives of both her husband and son.

Meyer, Alice Lanz

Services for Alice Marie Meyer, 96, of Winona, were Tuesday, August 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wilson, Minn., with interment in the church cemetery.
Alice died Saturday, August 24, 2002 at Lake Winona Manor.
Alice Marie (Lanz) Meyer was born August 26, 1905, to Herman and Marie (Papenfuss) Lanz in their farmhouse on Stinson Ridge near Ridgeway, Minn. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Nodine, Minn., and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway the church organized and built by her father and seven other men in 1908. She became a member of Wilson Trinity Lutheran Church in 1934 when her family moved to Wyattville, Minn.
Alice attended Golish District 83 country school, graduated from LaCrosse Central High School and earned her teaching certification from Winona Normal School (now Winona State University). She taught grades 1-8 at six different one-room schools in rural Winona County from 1923-1934. She then worked on the U.S. Government Corn Hog Program in Lewiston until 1936 when she became a full time farmer's wife and homemaker.
Alice married Henry F. "Hank" Meyer on June 10, 1936, at Wilson Trinity Lutheran Church. Hank died September 13, 1985. Alice continued to live on the family farm until July 1999 when she moved to Alterra Sterling House in Winona. She was a Sunday School teacher, 4-H adult leader, member and officer of Ladies Aid, Women's Missionary League, Sunshine Club, and Homemakers. Alice always had a special love for this country and the land that God entrusted His children to care for. She was known for the many beautiful flowers she grew in her garden and home.
Alice loved children and her lifelong goal was to be a mother and grandmother. She was loved and will be dearly missed by her four children: David (Marie Karasch) Meyer of Wilson, Ardell Doering of Wykoff, Minn., Eugene (Sheri Lundgren) Meyer of Wilson, and CarolLynn (Lyle) Ziemann of Chesterfield, MO.; twelve grandchildren: Elizabeth and William Doering, Michael and Matthew Ziemann, Adam, Jorgina, Joseph, Andrew, Nicki, Michael and Jesse Meyer, and Toni Karasch; brother, Raymond (Phyllis) Lanz of Winona; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Gladys (Robert) Stinson and Evelyn (Alfred) Brandt, a brother, Arnold (Rosie) Lanz, and son-in-law, William Doering.
Her faith in God was the core of her life. She always had a positive attitude, was loving, kind, sensitive and an exceptional role model to all who knew her. Our Lord has called her home and blessed us with many wonderful memories and inspirations.

Bateman, Frieda I.A.

Frieda I.A. Bateman, 94, of LaCrosse, Wis., and formerly of LaCrescent, Minn., died Monday, August 26, 2002 at the Hillview Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 29 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nodine, Minn., with Rev. Daniel Borgwardt officiating. Burial will be in Hiler Cemetery, Nodine.

Foster, Marian W.

Marian Foster, died Sunday, August 18, 2002 at her home.
Funeral services were Saturday, August 24 in Starkville, Miss. Interment is planned for late summer 2003 in Vienna, MD.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Tuesday, August 27, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca, with Rev. Francis Kunz officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery.

Donna (McGath) Burnet died at her home in Omaha, Neb. on Monday, August 19, 2002.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 23 in Omaha.
