Kaste, Ivan
Ivan Kaste, 85, Waukesha, Wis., died suddenly from a heart attack, at his home.
He was born January 10, 1917 in Fountain City, Wis., to Romeo and Lily Kaste. He graduated from Fountain City High School in 1934 and received his bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1938. In 1951 he married Nissley Brandt in Milwaukee. At the time he was editor of the Winneconne News. He was a long-time editor and reporter for the Waukesha Freeman in Waukesha.
He recently attended the Fountain City Days celebration. He was a member of the Fountain City Area Historical Society. He greatly enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Alton and a sister, Lillian.
He is survived by his wife, Nissley; a son, Fred; a daughter, Betsy Moldenhauer; four grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, August 24 in Waukesha. Memorial services will be at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Mukwonago on September 8 at 1:30 p.m. At a later date the ashes will be buried in the family plot at the Fountain City Public Cemetery.
Golish, Melvin C.
Melvin C. Golish, 75, formerly of Lewiston, Minn, died Monday, August 26, 2002 at Lake Winona Manor.
Melvin was born May 26, 1927 in Ridgeway, Minn. to Herman and Grace (Howell) Golish. He married Mildred Schlink on October 25, 1949 in St. Joseph Church, Winona.
He is a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish in Lewiston.
Melvin was a farmer who loved fishing, garage sales and auctions, along with collecting toy cars, trucks and tractors. In his earlier days, he enjoyed hunting with his brothers.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Winona; a son, Rick Golish of Owatonna, Minn.; a daughter, Judy Golish of Circle Pines, Minn; two grandchildren, Joe and Malinda Golish; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Alan, his parents, four brothers and one sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, August 29 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church in Lewiston with Rev. Peter L. Schuster officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The American Legion Post #90 of Lewiston will provide military honors at the cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church and again on Thursday, one hour prior to the Mass at the church. A Christian Wake Service will be held Wednesday at 6:15 p.m.

Vanderau, W. Ruth
W. Ruth Vanderau, 88, died Monday, August 26, 2002 at Sauer Memorial Home.
She was born February 16, 1914 in Glen, Minn., to James and Johanna Verhague DeYoung. She graduated from Aitken High School and attended the Bethany Seminary in Chicago. She married Ernest R. Vanderau on June 5, 1938, in Chicago.
She farmed with her husband for forty years in the Lewiston area, retiring in 1989.
She is survived by daughters, Nadine (Milton) Asher of Mead, Wash. and Elaine (Dave) Leadabrand of Rocky Ford, Colo.; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and brothers, Harold (Ethel) DeYoung of Minneapolis, Lawrence (Sybil) DeYoung of Beverly Hills, Mich., Gordon (Lucille) DeYoung of St. Paul, and Donald (Elizabeth) De Young of Oxford, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest on June 18, 1997, a daughter, Joan Marcolini, a brother, Marvin, and a half-sister, Helene.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Martin-Myhre Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held Friday, August 30, at 10 a.m. at Scotch Fremont Cemetery with Pastor Linda Grounds of LaCrescent United Methodist Church officiating.

Watembach, Faustin S.
Faustin S. Watembach, 88, of rural Fountain City, Wis., died at his home on Sunday, August 25, 2002.
He was born February 15, 1914 in Winona to Joseph and Josephine (Grochowski) Watembach.
He was employed at Froedtert Malt Co. until his retirement.
Faustin was a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish.
He is survived by two sisters, Eleanor V. Schultz and Cecilia U. Schulz, both of Winona; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Pelgia Peplinski and Elizabeth Walinski, and four brothers, Frank, William, Hilary and John Watembach.
A funeral service will be held Friday, August 30 at 12:30 p.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home with Msgr. Roy E. Literski officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends may call Friday from 10 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Rosary recitation will be at 12 noon, led by a nephew, Richard Schultz.
Pallbearers will be nieces and nephews.

Gibbs, Eleanor Ann
Eleanor A. Gibbs, age 92, of Waseca died on Friday, August 23, 2002 at St. Ann's Extended Health Care in Winona, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, August 27, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca with Fr. Francis Kunz officiating. Interment was in the Calvary Cemetery.
Eleanor Ann was born on October 18, 1909 in Algona, Iowa to John Edwin and Margaret (Klein) Kramer. She graduated from Sacred Hearth Parochial High School in Waseca, and went on to attend business college. She was united in marriage to Harold Gibbs on April 24, 1943 in Grinnell, Iowa. Eleanor and Harold resided in various towns in Iowa before moving to Waseca in 1965. Harold owned and operated Gibbs Welding, and Eleanor worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses in the Waseca Area including, Swifts & Co., Wolf & Habein Grocery, Salz Sales, and Terry Pfeil Ag.. In later years Eleanor worked as the housekeeper for the Sacred Heart Rectory in Waseca. She was a longtime active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. Eleanor enjoyed gardening, and crafts, especially quilting.
She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Crawford and her husband Tony of Winona, MN.; by one stepdaughter, Linda Frink and her husband, John of Manona, Iowa; by one son, John Gibbs and his wife Sandy of Foley, MN.; by five grandchildren; by 4 step grandchildren; by 4 great grandchildren; by three sisters, Delores Powell, Margaret Johnson, Leona McShane, all of Waseca; by two brothers, Francis Kramer and his wife Elaine, Ernest Kramer and his wife Alvena, all of Waseca.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 13, 1971; by three brothers, Bernard, Edwin, and John; by two sisters, Marie and Cornelia.
Casketbearers were Eleanor's grandchildren; Debra Beach, Darin Crawford, Wendy Crawford, Erin Gibbs, Kyle Gibbs.
Burnet, Donna
Donna (McGath) Burnet died at her home in Omaha Ne on August 19. She was born in Winona to Donald and Grace McGath. She attended WSHS. She is survived by 3 daughter Kim(Jim) Muller, Leslie(Rick) Martinson, Tracy (Tom) Musinsky and 1 son Kyle (Becky) Kopel, all of Omaha, and 5 granchildren.
One sister Carole (David) Forest of Winona and a brother Roger McGath of Santa Monica Ca. She is survived by an aunt Marion Collier of Winona.
Her funeral was held Friday August 23 in Omaha.
Donna is now at rest.
Olness, Corrine M.
Corrine Margaret Olness, 79, of Winona, MN passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2002 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, WI.
Corrine Boyum was born July 13, 1923, in rural Utica, MN to Martin and Cora (Swiggum) Boyum. After graduating from Peterson High School, she attended Winona State University and graduated from Winona Secretarial School and Lutheran Bible Institute, Minneapolis, MN. She married Sibert Maynard Olness on June 20, 1945 at Arendahl Lutheran Church in rural Peterson, MN.
Corrine enjoyed music, flowers, bird-watching, and entertaining for family and friends. Most dear to her was the time spent with her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Sweet Adeline Chorus for several years and enjoyed her special friendships. Corrine did daycare in her home for over thirty years and truly loved being "Grandma" to all the children. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Winona.
She is survived by her three children, Bonnie (Robert) Simonet of St. Paul, Susan Frosch of Winona and James of Roseville; five grandchildren, David and Ryan Simonet of St. Paul and Peter, Andrew and Elizabeth Frosch of Winona; two brothers, Bertram Boyum of Rushford and Karrol (Olive Ann) Boyum of Rushford and one sister Edith (Russ) Sawyer of Fort Collins, CO.
Corrine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Maynard, a sister Ardith, a brother Chester and a son-in-law Mark Frosch.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 21, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Central Lutheran Church, Winona with Rev. Scott Olson, officiating. Interment will be at Arendahl Lutheran Cemetery, rural Peterson, MN.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona and at the church on Thursday, one hour prior to the service. A prayer service will be Wednesday at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the Arendahl Lutheran Church, Central Lutheran Church Building Fund or Lake Winona Manor.

Rohrer, Milton H.
Milton Herbert Rohrer, 96, of Eau Claire, Wis., and formerly of Alma and Cochrane, Wis., died Friday, November 15, 2002, at the Dove Healthcare Center in Eau Claire.
Funeral services were Tuesday, November 19, at St. John Lutheran Church in Alma, with Rev. Joel Bacon officiating. Burial was in the Buffalo City Cemetery.

Evelyn A. Rutschow, 92, of rural Alma, Wis., died Saturday, November 16, 2002 at her home.
Funeral services were Tuesday, November 19, at Stohr-Hagen-Wozney Funeral Home in Alma, with Rev. Joel Bacon officiating. Burial was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Cream, Wis.
