Dahlquist-Olson, Leone E.
Leone E. Dahlquist-Olson, 85, LaCrosse, WI, died Friday, August 7, 1998 at St. Joseph's Rehabilitation Center after a long battle with chronic illness.

She was born in LaCrosse on June 27, 1913 to Thomas and Anna (Doane) Burns. She married Ernest Dahlquist on February 28, 1933. He preceded her in death on July 15, 1968. She married Victor Olson on January 5, 1974. He also preceded her in death.

Leone had owned and operated Le Ette's Bakery in LaCrosse for many years and then had worked in dietary at St. Francis Hospital.

She is survived by three daughters, Rosemary Tooke, LaCrosse, Bonnie (Fred) Bahr, Galesville, WI, and Diane (Allan) Brague, Winona; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Walter Dahlquist, LaCrescent, MN; a sister-in-law, Margie Jensen, LaCrescent; and many special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her first and second husbands he was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Barbara Papenfuss, a grandson Eddie Brague, three sisters, Charlotte "Lottie" Farrell, Rose Beuhler, and Eva Dahlquist and a brother Wilbur Burns.

Funeral services were Monday, August 10 at Church of the Crucifixion in LaCrescent with Msgr. Donald W. Grubisch officiating. Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery in LaCrosse.

The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of LaCrescent was in charge of arrangements.

"Though she is gone from our eyes,

She will stay forever in our hearts."

Haas, Marguerite Ronan
Memorial services for Marguerite Ronan Haas will be Saturday, August 15 at 2 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Hall, Lewiston, MN.

Mrs. Haas died September 17, 1997 in Indianapolis, IN.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; daughters, Christy Haas Faucett (Rob), Kathi Haas Brethauer (Marvin); sons, Jeff Haas (Sue) and Lee Haas; eight grandchildren; her mother, Mary Daley Ronan; two sisters and a brother.

Burial will be in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery following the service.

Nett, John A.
John A. Nett, 78, Trempealeau, WI, died Monday, January 25, 1999 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, WI.

John Anthony Nett was born April 24, 1920 in Great Falls, MT to Arnold and LaVera (Schissel) Nett.

John graduated from Cotter High School in 1938. He then attended St. Mary's College and graduated in 1942. John served in the U.S. Army Corps during World War II as a flight instructor and reached the rank of Captain. On May 14, 1946 he married Jean Enright in Winona.

John began his teaching and coaching career at Winona Cotter in 1946 until retiring in 1985 with a leave in 1951-52 to serve in the military during the Korean War. John accumulated 38 seasons serving as a teacher/coach for Cotter.

John will be remembered in his retirement for his love of gardening and flowers, bird watching at his numerous bird feeders, barbecuing for family gatherings and fondness for his pets.

John was a member of St. Bartholemew Catholic Church in Trempealeau and Past Chief Ranger of St. Thomas Ct. #360 Catholic Order of Foresters. John was also a member of the VFW and American Legion in Winona.

John is survived by his wife, Jean; eight children: John Jr. (Kris) Winona, Mary (Barry) Powell, Wooddale, IL, Richard of Trempealeau, Kate (Todd) Smith, Wabasha, MN, Barbara Nett, Madison, WI, Joanne Nett, Chicago, IL, Joseph (Darby), Santa Barbara, CA, and Steve (Becky) Spring Valley, IL; thirteen grandchildren: Andy, Jaimie, Tom, Emily, Gina, Oli, Tria, Corey, Joseph, Zach, Katie, Ryan and Kelle; and two sisters, Mary Lou (Chuck) Maurer, Redmond, WA and Julie Nett, St. Louis Park, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Funeral Mass will be Thursday, January 28, at 11 a.m. at St. Bartholemew Catholic Church in Trempealeau with the Rev. Robert Wagner officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona.

Friends may call Wednesday, January 27 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church in Winona from 4-8 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service at 7:30 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church in Trempealeau on Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Randy Lisowski, Mike O'Brien, Steve Rader, Mike Leaf, Pete Tlougan, and Tom Borek.

Military Honors will be conducted by the Winona VFW and American Legion.

Hoff Funeral Homes - Burke Winona Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Bremer, Carol R.
Carol Ruth Bremer, 72, died at Watkins Home on Friday, January 22, 1999.

Throughout her life Carol worked as a copy editor at the Winona Daily News, advertising consultant for local radio stations, and as a home health care aide.

Things she enjoyed included reading, playing tennis and bridge, dressing fashionably, cooking and spending time with her son Peter.

She is survived by Peter Bremer, a sister, Mae Shortridge, a niece, and several nephews.

A gathering for family and friends was held at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 26. There was no memorial service.

Donations will be graciously accepted in the name of Carol Ruth Bremer to the Winona Public Library.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Kukowski, Eleanor
Eleanor Kukowski, 78, Austin, MN, formerly of Winona, died Thursday, January 21, 1999 at the Prairie Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral services were Monday, January 25, at St. Augustine Church with Rev. Hubert Baschert officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

Tarras, Ronald J.
Ronald J. Tarras, 69, Winona, died Thursday, January 21, 1999 at his home.

Ronald James Tarras was born March 10, 1929 in Winona, to Fred and Francis (Haster) Tarras. He married Marilyn Lambert on September 28, 1963 in Winona.

Ron attended Washington-Kosciusko grade school and graduated from Winona Cotter in 1947. He attended Winona State Teachers College and worked for Norwestern Railroad in Winona and Clinton, IA as a yard foreman. He also worked at the College of Saint Teresa as a Power Plant Engineer. He then went to work for Brocks Candy in Winona and retired in 1992.

Ron was an avid sportsman. He fished, trapped, and hunted practically every lake and stream in the area. His other interests included gardening, following sports, refinishing antique furniture, cooking, and he enjoyed playing cards with his friends.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; a daughter, Stacy (Duane) Eide, Stockton, MN; a son, Scott (friend Brandee Singer) Tarras, Winona; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Cassie Eide; a sister, Grace (Robert) Eichman, St. Peter, MN; and two brothers, William Tarras of Winona and Bernie (Jan) Tarras, Pipestone, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were Monday, January 25 at St. Casimir's Catholic Church with Rev. James Hennessy officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona.

Pallbearers were Dave Gatzlafe, Bernie Tarras, Chris Tarras, Bob Eichman, Greg Tarras, and Duane Eide.

Memorials are suggested to the Winona Area Hospice.

Alitz, George Leonard
George Leonard Alitz Sr., 84, Stockton, MN, died Friday, January 22, 1999 at the Roger Metz Manor in Winona.

He was born January 23, 1914 in Belvidere Township, WI to William and Henrietta (Hilgert) Alitz. George was born and raised in Wisconsin and moved to Rollingstone when he married Eleanor Frey on June 14, 1944 in Rollingstone. From there they moved to Goodview and then to Stockton in 1965. Eleanor died in 1985.

He was a truck/tractor driver for ADM for 38 years and he also ran several small businesses. He retired in 1974 and then worked part time for Super Grow in Minnesota City, MN for a few years.

For the past year George has resided at the Roger Metz Manor in Winona. He enjoyed being a member of the Winona Senior Center.

He is survived by one son, George L. Jr. (Beverly) Alitz, McCallsburg, IA; a daughter, Carolyn Goetzman, Stockton; three grandsons, Thomas, Edward and Shawn; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Bloss, Buffalo City, WI.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a granddaughter, Dawn, two brothers, Oscar and Alvin, and two sisters, Emma and Palma.

Funeral services were Tuesday, January 26 at Hoff Funeral Homes-Lewiston Chapel, with Kathy Redig officiating. Burial was in Lewiston Public Cemetery, Lewiston, MN.

Hoff Funeral Home-Lewiston Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
