David R. Witmer, 65, LaCrosse, WI, died Saturday, August 1, 1998 at his home.
Private memorial services were held. A reception will be held August 29 from 4-7 p.m. at the Cleary Alumni and Friends Center on the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse campus.

Esther L. Henry, 90, Winona, formerly of Wabasha, MN, died Tuesday, July 28, 1998 at Watkins Home.
Memorial service was held Saturday, August 8 at Watkins Home. Burial was in Oakland, CA.
Olszewski, Irene A.
Irene A. Olszewski, 95, died Thursday, August 6, 1998 at Sauer Memorial Home.
She was born December 26, 1902 in Owatonna, MN toa Joseph J. and Frances I. (Kupka) Orlowske. She married Edward P. Olszewski on October 27, 1943 in the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church, Winona.
Irene worked with her brothers, Joe and John Orlowske at their West End Greenhouse.
She was a member of St. Casimir's Parish.
She is survived by a son, Edward (Ellen) Olszewski, Lake Mary, FL; three grandchildren, Shellie, Kristie and Kelly Olszewski; and a brother, John (Grace) Orlowske, Winona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and a brother.
A Funeral Mass will be offered Monday, August 10, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church with preliminary services at 10:30 a.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rev. James W. Hennessy will officiate.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home with a Christian Wake Service at 3:30 p.m.

Melcher, Archie G.
Archie G. Melcher, 82, passed away at his home on Sunday, November 22, 1998 at Oak Ridge, rural Altura, MN. At his request his body has been cremated.
He was born February 7, 1916, the only son of Arthur and Margaret (Kramer) Melcher on the family farm at Oak Ridge, Whitewater Township of Winona County, MN. He lived his entire life on that farm.
Archie is survived by his aunt, Mrs. Leon (Grace) Kramer, Pontiac, MI, and her daughters, Lois Reynolds, Waterford, MI and Shirley (Robert) Alessi, Pontiac, MI; and also by Clyde and Eldora Kramer, St.Charles, MN; and several cousins in the area. Archie is also survived by special friends Vern and Carol Spitzer, Winona and Cyril and Mary Speltz, Altura.
A memorial service was held Friday, November 27 at Fawcett Funeral home with Rev. Leland Smith officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Oak Ridge, Altura. May he rest in peace.

Jore, Marie H.
Marie H. Jore, 88, LaCrescent, MN., died Thursday, November 26, 1998 at LaCrescent Health Care Center.
Funeral services were Saturday, November 28 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in LaCrescent, with Rev. Duane Baardseth officiating. Burial was in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Houston, MN.
Strom, Helga
Helga Strom, 95, died Thursday, August 20, 1998 at the Watkins Home.
Service and burial were Monday, August 24 in Minneapolis.
Romine, Ruth W.
Ruth W. Romine, 80, 714 Wilson St., died Sunday, August 23, 1998 at Community Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Winona on June 15, 1918 to Alvin and Mabel (Beckwith) Sweazey. She married J. Ervin Romine in Winona on September 23, 1936.
Ruth earned a bachelor's and master's degree in education from Winona State University. She taught rural elementary school at Garvin Heights, Nodine and Ridgeway, MN, retiring in 1980. She also did preschool screening for many years.
Ruth is a member of Brookside Church of Christ, the Winona Area Retired Educators and was a volunteer at Community Memorial Hospital with the hospital auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, J. Ervin of Winona; two sons, David (Mary) Romine, Sun Prairie, WI and Paul (Jean) Romine, Louisville, KY; a daughter-in-law, Bev Romine, Winona; a brother, James (Esther) Sweazey, Winona; eight grandchildren: Vickie Klinger, Jeff (Sonja) Romine, Barb (Rick) Fuchs, Brenda (Clay) Hemenway, Sue (Scott) Whelan, Karl (Chris) Romine, Heather and Brian Romine; twelve great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Doris Sweazey of Winona; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, J. Bruce in 1984, and a brother, Eugene Sweazey.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 26 at 11 a.m. at Brookside Church of Christ, with Rev. Mark Beerman officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Casketbearers are Jeff, Karl and Brian Romine, Clay Hemenway, Scott Whelan and Rich Fuchs.

Buswell, James E.
James E. Buswell, a lifetime resident of the Winona area, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 22, 1998 at his home.
Jim was born in Winona County on April 13, 1927 to Frank and Iva (Warner) Buswell. He married his soulmate, companion and friend, Constance Cieminski on July 5, 1947 in Winona. With her love and attention, Jim was able to enjoy life to its fullest.
They were blessed with eight children: Linda Dunning, Denver, CO; Cynthia (Peter) Friend, San Diego, CA; Kristine (Jim) Healy, Newark, OH; James R. (Teresa) Buswell, Bonita, CA; twins Jeffrey (Mary) Buswell, Orange Park, FL and Jennifer (Rick) Schewe, Winona; twins Scott (Wendy) Buswell, Owatonna, MN, and Steven (Kathy) Buswell, Winona.
Jim was involved in the Jaycees, Radio Club, VFW, American Legion and DAV. He also coached boys' baseball (rural teams). Jim was known for his active participation in many sports spanning over several years. He was involved in several groups and activities too numerous to mention. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Jim received an award for being inducted into the "Ford 500 Club" for his achievements as a car salesman. This honor is reserved for only a select few individuals.
Jim was a World War II Navy veteran. He was assigned to the amphibious forces attached to the 7th fleet. His duties took him to the Pacific. Jim epitomized the model American citizen as a member of the United States Navy during World War II. Jim dutifully served his country to ensure the same freedom and liberties he held in high esteem, were guaranteed for future generations.
As a devoted husband, father and brother, James Buswell carries on a legacy of integrity, love and compassion towards family and society.
Jim is survived by his wife, Connie; his eight children, Linda, Cynthia, Kristine, Jim R., Jeffrey, Jennifer, Steven and Scott; his nineteen grandchildren, Eric John, Ryan, Zacharia, Carrie, Andrea, Melissa, Stephanie, Krystal, Lindsay, Jimmy, Michelle, Jennifer, Blake, Adam, Eric Michael, Marcus, Craig, Danielle and Jake; four great-grandchildren, Rachel, Erica, Dylan and Nicholas; two step-grandchildren, Richard and Terri; a sister, Doris (Charles) Dean, Rochester, MN; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Charles, Roy and Warner, and two sisters, Beulah and Glynis.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 26 at 2:30 p.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Chapel with Rev. Robert P. Stamschror officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Minnesota City, MN. The memorial rifle squad of Neville-Lien Post #1287 will provide military honors at the cemetery.
Jim will be remembered for his love of life and his never ending smile. We love you!
