Woxland, Kenneth H.
Kenneth A. Woxland, 52, of 652-1/2 East Third St., died Monday, January 1, 2001.

He was born in Winona on August 10, 1948 to Sibert and Alice Stark Woxland. He married Sandra Harris.

For 16 years he has been an over the road driver for Marten Transport of Mondovi, Wis. Ken is a member of the Million Mile Safe Driver Club.

He is survived by a son, Travis Woxland of Winona; a brother, Robert (Diane) Woxland of Eden Prairie, Minn.; sisters, Jo Ann (Lonny) Scattum of Minnesota City, Minn. and Helen (Wally) Moore of Winona; and two half-brothers, Richard (Mary Jane) Woxland of Westbrooke, Conn. and Stanley (Elka) Woxland of Warsaw, Ind.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Ryan.

Funeral services were Friday, January 5 at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home with Rev. William Flesch of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Winona, officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were his fellow co-workers and all truck drivers.

He will be sadly missed by friends and family.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services assisted with the arrangements.

Donahue, Norbert Kenneth
Norbert Kenneth Donahue, 75, died Wednesday, January 3, 2001 at the Watkins Home, Winona.

Kenny was born in Waseca, Minn. on June 6, 1925 to Fred and Elizabeth (McGruder) Donahue. Kenny and his family moved to Winona in 1938. He married Valeria Hermanson on March 17, 1949. They were later divorced.

Kenny drive Car Carrier for Janesville Auto Transport in Janesville, Wis. He also worked for Winona Plumbing and later drove truck for Fitzsimmons Trucking in Waseca, Minn. Ken will be remembered for being an avid bowler.

Ken is survived by two daughters, Joyce Kaczorowski Gernes of Winona and Jennifer (Roger) Sydell of Wauconda, Ill.; three sons, Danny (Patricia) Donahue of Winona, David (Luanne) Donahue of Rochester, Minn., and Troy (De-De) Donahue of Viroqua, Wis.; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one grand-dog, Buffet; two sisters, Elaine Johnson of Waseca, Minn. and Kathy (Keith) Born of Ellendale, Minn; and a brother, Patrick (Jean) Donahue or Enterprise, Ala.

His parents, a brother, Ralph, and a daughter-in-law, Tracy Donahue preceded Ken in death.

A memorial service was held Saturday, January 6, in the Great Hall of the Watkins Home with Rev. William Flesch officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Waseca, Minn.

Honorary pallbearers were Ken's grandchildren, Chris Kaczorowski, Brad Kaczorowski, Oscar Donahue, Troy Donahue, Tony Schneider, Dustin Donahue, Brian Donahue, Michael Donahue, Angela Mettin, Lenae Schneider, Nicole Donahue and Savannah Buros.

Hoff Funeral Home's - Burke Winona Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.

Erpelding, Floyd J.
Floyd J. Erpelding, 87, of Callista Court, died Thursday, January 4, 2001 at Callista Court. He is formerly of 1167 West Fifth St.

Floyd was born in Elba, Minn. on September 27, 1913, the son of Mikel and Margarita (Decker) Erpelding. He married Dolores Abts on September 27, 1939 at St. Casimir's Catholic Church, Winona.

In his younger years he worked as a farm hand. Then he worked in the CCC camps in Grand Marais and St. Charles, Minn. Following that he worked at Winona General Hospital, Allen Tree Service, and then retired in 1978 after 20 years with the Winona Park Department.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores of Callista Court; sons, Melvin (Pilar) Erpelding of Grandview, Wash. and Lawrence Erpelding of South Bend, Ind.; a daughter, Judie (John) Keen of Winona; granddaughters, Amy (Robert) French of Winona and Ann Keen of Chicago, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Noah, Jacob and David French; a sister, Vonda Koehler of Dover, Minn.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a grandson.

Floyd will be remembered for his one-liners, sense of humor and love of dancing.

A Mass of Christian celebration was held Saturday, January 6, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Keefe officiating. Burial was in St. Aloysius Cemetery in Elba, Minn.

Casketbearers were Robert French, Michael and Matthew Schultz, Larry Small, Darius Koehler and Darrell Koehler.

Hartzell, Robert L. "Bob"
Robert L. "Bob" Hartzell, 59, of St. Charles, Minn., died Thursday, January 4, 2001 at his home, following a short illness of pancreatic cancer.

Bob was born June 23, 1941 in Barron, Wis. to Raymond and Ruth (Schrader) Hartzell. He graduated from Barron High School and from the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science. Bob and Mary Ladlie were married on September 5, 1964 in Albert Lea.

They lived a short time in Salt Lake City, Utah, also in Denver, Colo., and Park Forest, Ill., where he worked in sales and as a sales merchandising manager for Wilson Foods. Bob then worked for New Richmond Foods, a division of Doughboy, in Apple Valley. In 1970 they moved to St. Charles where he and his partners, Bill Buhr and Dave Borgshatz opened North Star Foods, Inc., of which he was currently the sole owner.

Bob belonged to First Baptist Church of Rochester and served on the board of trustees and as an Elder. In St. Charles he had been active in the Economic Development Committee, Planning and Zoning Commission and had been appointed to a partial term on the City Council.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; two children, Christopher Hartzell of Columbia Heights and Elizabeth (Matt) DeVos of Madison, Wis.; a brother, Russell C. (Josephine) Hartzell of Moore, Okla.; and a niece and nephew, Jan (Bob) Newey of Atlanta, GA., and Randy Hartzell of Moore, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 8, at First Baptist Church, 415 16th St. SW, Rochester, with Rev. C. John Steer officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Albert Lea. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m.Sunday at Hoff Funeral Home's - St. Charles Chapel. They may also call one hour before services at the church.

Hoff Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Haefel, Donna E.
Donna E. Haefel, 74, of 567 Mankato Avenue, died Wednesday, January 3, 2001, at Community Memorial Hospital.

She was born February 1, 1926 in Rushford, Minn., to John and Selma (Griffin) Gilbertson. She married Earl Haefel. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Milda.

She was a former member of Rushford Lutheran Church. She moved to Winona in 1945.

She was the owner and operator of the Avenue Cafe, worked for Community Memorial Hospital, the Hot Fish Shop, and the Holiday Inn.

Survivors include a son, Duane (Judy) Linander of Vacaville, Cal.; a daughter, Carol Langowski (Richard Feuling) of Winona; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Al (Ann) Gilbertson of Winona, John (Rose) Gilbertson, Jr., of Brookston, Minn.; and a sister, Dora (John) Rivers of Cottage Grove, Minn.

Memorial services will be held Friday, January 12, at 2 p.m., at Martin-Myhre Funeral Chapel with Rev. Wade Davick of Central Lutheran Church officiating.

Visitation will be held Friday from 1 p.m. until time of services.

Memorials are being arranged.

VanGundy, Luellen E.
Luellen E. VanGundy, 95, of Houston, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston.

She was born on April 27, 1905 in Ostrander, Minn. to Peter and Isabella (Hagen) Olson. Luellen was raised in the Ostrander and Grand Meadow Minn. areas. She married Carl VanGundy on September 6, 1923.

She and Carl moved to Houston shortly after their marriage. They farmed in the Houston area for many years until they retired and moved to the town of Houston in 1956. Luellen cooked at various restaurants in Houston and worked as a volunteer at the Valley View Nursing Home. She was well known as an excellent cook and baker.

Luellen was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, church circle and ladies aide, the Iris Garden Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by eight sons: Harold (Dolores) VanGundy of Houston; Donald (LaVon) VanGundy of Houston; Wesley (Dorothy) VanGundy of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Francis (Shirley) VanGundy of Houston; Junior (Donna) VanGundy of Houston; Robert (Laurel) VanGundy of St. Paul, Minn.; Allen (Loretta) VanGundy of Hokah, Minn.; and Larry (Patty) VanGundy of Houston; two daughters: Lois Quillin of LaCrescent, Minn.; and Judy (Steve Mrachek) Ledebuhr of Winona; 29 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Richard (Selma) Olson of Togo, Minn.; and Willis (Thelma) Olson of Apache Junction, Ariz.; two sisters: Edith (Wayne) Guy of Ostrander, Minn.; and Arletta Jurasinski of Mountain View, Cal.; four sisters-in-law: Carrie Sue Olson of Phoenix, Ariz.; Joyce Olson of Rochester, Minn.; Marie Olson of Winona; and Elizabeth Puterbaugh of Winona.

Luellen was preceded in death by her husband, two grandsons: William Quillin and Gary VanGundy, one son-in-law, Donald Quillin; six brothers and three sisters.

The funeral service was Friday, February 2, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Revs. Lane Zaffke and Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial was in the Money Creek Cemetery in Money Creek, Minn.

The family prefers memorials to be directed to Valley View Nursing Home, Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, or A.B.L.E. Group Home.
