Sula, Lillian F.
Lillian F. Sula, 93, formerly of 359 Liberty St., died Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at the Watkins Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since 1995.

Lillian was born on July 7, 1907, in Wilson Township, to Theodore and Augusta Tesch Leibner. She lived in Winona County all her life.

She is a member of St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid, Winona Friendship Center and AARP.

She worked for Federal Bakery and was a member of the Bakery and Confectionery Workers International Local 390, of which she was elected Woman of the Year in 1968, and also a member of the Old Settlers Association.

She is survived by a son, Dale Sula of Winona; a daughter, Alice (Harry) Pozanc of Winona; two grandchildren, Linda (Greg) Aichele and Nancy Valentine; and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Valentine.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Alma Ladewig, Etta Dittberner, Pearl Kukowski and Leona Leibner, and a brother, Arnold Leibner.

Funeral services were Saturday, February 3, at St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Rev. Timothy Dost officiating. Burial was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Wilson, Minn.

Martin-Myhre Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Hengel, Margaret E.
Margaret E. Hengel, 80, of 311 Saehler Drive, Minnesota City, Minn., died Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at Community Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving husband and family.

She was born in Amery, Wis., on January 21, 1921 to Bernard and Grace (Rand) Klinger. Margaret was raised by her grandparents, Clarence and Fidelia Fitch Rand. She married Francis J. Hengel on October 15, 1941 in Winona.

She retired in 1979 from Knitcraft Corp. where she had been a sewer and a supervisor.

Margaret is a member of Central United Methodist Church and its Ladies Aid.

She is survived by her husband, Francis; a son, Richard (Ada) Hengel of Minnesota City; daughters, Karrol (Ronald) Wenzel of Minnesota City, and Randi (William) Reinarts of Winona; grandchildren: Chad (Heidi) Wenzel, Jason (Tricia) Wenzel, Lauri Roach, Cindy (Brian) Wehlage, and Carla (Josh) Larson, all of Winona; great-grandchildren: Cody, Zachary, Nicholas and Michael Wenzel, Brittany Dworschak, Noah Roach, Shelby Hengel-Wehlage, and Tre Wehlage; a brother, Eugene Klinger of Montesano, Wash.; and a sister, Ruth Kukowski of Winona.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Bill and Earl.

Funeral services were Friday, February 2, at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, with Chaplain Kathy Redig officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Casketbearers were grandchildren, Chad and Jason Wenzel, Lauri Roach, Carla Larson, and Cindy and Brian Wehlage.

A memorial is being arranged.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.

Montoya, Anthony F.
Anthony F. Montoya, 48, of Flandreau, SD, died Saturday, January 27, 2001.

He was born August 12, 1952 in Winona, to Anastacio and Elise Merchlewitz Montoya. His father was in the military and Anthony received his education in many different places. He graduated from high school in Albuquerque, NM. He then attended Winona State and Mankato State. Anthony married Donalda Armstrong on March 26, 1983 in Flandreau.

He worked at Minnesota Migrant Counsel in St. James, Minn., Pipestone Vo-Tech as an education counselor, Group W Cable in Winona, and was manager of Box Office Inc. in Mankato. For the past twelve years he worked at St. Peter Security Hospital as a security counselor.

Anthony was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Flandreau.

Survivors include his wife, Donalda; three daughters, Elise and Shaylene Montoya of Flandreau, and Tessa Thulien of St. James, Minn.; two sons, Lalo Montoya of Flandreau, and Aaron Gaspard of LaCrosse, Wis.; his mother, Elise Ulloa (Lalo) of Antonio, Colo.; and his grandmother, Linda Merchlewitz of Winona.

He was preceded in death by his father, one grandmother and his grandfathers.

Funeral services were Wednesday, January 31 at First Presbyterian Church in Flandreau, with Elder Paula Armstrong officiating. Burial was in First Presbyterian Cemetery in Flandreau.

Honorary pallbearers were Lalo Montoya, Mike Merchlewitz, Brandon Armstrong, Aaron Gaspard, Mitch Brink and Aaron Blair.

Skroch Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Buggs, Marjorie A.
Marjorie A. Buggs, 83, died Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at Winona Community Memorial Hospital.

Hoff Funeral Home's- Burke Winona Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Beyer, Joseph William
Joseph William Beyer, 9 months old, of 303 Mankato Avenue, died Thursday, February 1, 2001 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, LaCrosse, Wis.

He was born April 21, 2000 in Winona, to Jason E. and Susan C. (Kelley) Beyer.

He is survived by his parents, Jason and Susan of Winona; his paternal grandmother, Mary Edel Beyer of Winona; his maternal grandmother, Doris Kelley of Rice Lake, Wis.; his paternal great-grandmother, Susanna Beyer of Winona; his maternal great-grandmother, Elsa Schafer of Rice Lake, Wis., and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Argene Beyer, and his maternal grandfather, Frank A. Kelley, III.

A Mass of the Angels will be offered Sunday, February 4, at 2 p.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with Rev. Daniel R. Dernek officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Collins, Beverly Mae
Beverly Mae Collins, 67, Winona, died Saturday, January 27, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

A memorial service will be held in Winona on February 10.

Plank, Lucy Elizabeth
Lucy Elizabeth Plank, 80, of St. Charles, Minn., died Tuesday, December 19, 2000 at Maple Manor Nursing Home, Rochester, Minn.

Lucy was born April 20, 1920 in Quincy Township of Olmsted County to Warren Elmer and Lucy Elizabeth (Marks) Stevens. She graduated from St. Charles High School in 1939. On November 22, 1944 she and Lineal Plank were married in St. Charles. They made their home in the St. Charles area. Lineal died September 13, 1985.

Lucy was a homemaker and has resided at Maple Manor Nursing Home since May of this year.

Survivors include five children, Larry (Judy) Plank of Rochester, Deborah (Richard) Shafer of Rochester, Ricky (Patty) Plank of Faribault, Daniel (Karen) Plank of Lewiston, and Rochelle Befort of Rochester; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one step- great-grandchild; and a Sister, Rhoda "Tutz" Kahring of Las Vegas, Nev.

She was preceded in death by her husband, six brothers, and four sisters.

Funeral services were Saturday, December 23 at St. Charles United Methodist Church with Rev. Sharon Johnson officiating. Spring burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles.
