Leach, Harold W.
Harold W. Leach, 80, died Sunday, July 2, 2000 at the Veteran's Hospital, Tomah, WI.

He was born January 24, 1920 in Donora, PA, to Harry and Marie Berg Leach.

Harold had been a resident of the Mosher Veterans Home, Dakota, MN, prior to moving to the Veterans Hospital several years ago. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

He is survived by a brother, Paul Leach of Chillicothe, OH.

Services will be in Chillicothe, with burial in Monongahela Cemetery, Monongahela, PA.

Holubar, Patricia "Pat"
Patricia J. Holubar, 63, Winona, died July 15, 2000, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services were Tuesday, July 18, at Central Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Wade Davick officiating. Burial was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.

Brown, Florence E.
Florence E. Brown, 95, formerly of 525 Vila St., died Monday, July 17, 2000 at St. Anne Hospice.

She was born January 15, 1905 in Winona to Frank and Mary (Malotka) Wos. She married Ray H. Brown on October 17, 1928 in Winona. He died April 8, 1998.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Parish.

Survivors are nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Robert, and brothers and sisters, Henry, Angeline, Frank, Bonita, Elanore, Thomas, George and Mary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, July 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph L. Keefe officiating. Friends may call Saturday, one hour prior to the Mass at St. Mary's Church Commons. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Buggs, Marjorie A.
Marjorie A. Buggs, 83, died Thursday, January 31, 2001 at the C&R Unit of Community Memorial Hospital.

Marjorie Augusta Buggs was born September 24, 1917 in Spooner, Minn. to William and Jeanette (McElmury) Buggs.

Marjorie received her teaching degree at Winona Teacher's College, The Normal School, and taught country school in Lamoille during the 1950s. She moved to Owatonna and taught elementary school there until coming to Winona and teaching the third grade at Madison School in 1964. She retired in 1980.

She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Winona, the Audubon Society, Historical Society of Winona, was an active volunteer for the Winona Book Store and was a member of several teachers' organizations.

Marjorie is survived by five nephews, David Girod of Winona, George Girod of Troy, Mich., Donald Girod of Cattaraugus, NY, William Buggs of Florida, and Jerry Buggs of St. John's Mich.; two nieces, Charlotte Krull of LaCrosse, Wis. and Janet McClure of Orem, Utah; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Jerry, Bill and Frances, and three sisters, Carolyn, Florence and Annetta.

A memorial service is being planned in the spring and will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Spring interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Stockton, Minn.

Hoff Funeral Home - Burke Winona Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lackore, Archibald G.
Archibald Guy Lackore was born October 13, 1905 in Hayfield Iowa. He died Saturday, February 3, 2001 in Winona. He was the middle child and only surviving son of his parents, Mortimer E. and Emma Lansing Lackore. He had two older and two younger sisters, all of whom, along with his parents, have preceded him in death.

Mr. Lackore grew up on the family farm located two miles north of Hayfield, Iowa. He attended Hayfield Elementary School and graduated from Hayfield High School.

Prior to coming to Winona in 1935, Mr. Lackore was involved in a number of educational and employment activities. After graduating from high school, he attended Mason City, Iowa Business School, graduated from the Coyne Electrical Institute in Chicago, Illinois, and served in the United States Marine Corps. He also spent a period of time on the West Coast and Alaska where he worked for the Alaska-Pacific Salmon Corporation and the Rural Electrification Administration. Returning to Iowa in the late 1920s, he worked as a supervising electrician for the Jacob E. Decker Meatpacking Corporation located in Mason City.

He married Lucille Elizabeth Byerly on September 15, 1934 and the couple resided in Mason City until moving to Winona the following year.

In Winona, Mr. Lackore founded Lackore Electric Motor Repair, Incorporated, and throughout the years the business prospered and expanded. Branch shops were opened in LaCrosse, Wisconsin and Decorah, Iowa. Lackore Electric Motor Repair served the farm and industrial electric motor sales and service needs throughout southeastern Minnesota, west central Wisconsin, and northeastern Iowa. Mr. Lackore remained the owner, operator and president of the corporation until it was sold in the late 1960s.

Mr. Lackore was actively involved in the Electrical Service Equipment Association and served a term as president of the five-state regional branch of that professional organization.

Mr. Lackore was an active member of the Central United Methodist Church of Winona, where he served on a variety of boards and commissions and was head usher for twenty years.

Mr. Lackore was a member of a number of Masonic organizations, including Winona Lodge #18, A&FM, and the Winona chapters of the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Royal Arch Masons, Knights Templar, Shrine, and Eastern Star. He was a Past Master of the Lodge #18 and was honored with the Lodge's coveted Hiram Award. He also was a Past Worthy Patron of the Winona chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and a Past Watchman of the Sheppards of the LaCrosse chapter of the Order of the White Shrine.

Active in community affairs throughout his life, Mr. Lackore served as a member and President of the Winona Board of Education, a member of the Winona Township Planning Commission, a member of the Winona Chamber of Commerce and several of its committees, and a member of the Winona County Republican Club.

Mr. Lackore was a member of the Rotary, Toastmasters, and Golden Kiwanis clubs of Winona.

Archie enjoyed working with his hands. He was a talented electrician, woodworker, and mechanic. He designed and fabricated several specialized tools and machines used in the repair and winding of electric motors.

Archie liked to read and he kept a diary of his daily activities up until the time of his death. He enjoyed being with family and friends and engaging in spirited discussions on current political issues.

Archie was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Elizabeth Byerly Lackore (April 7, 1910-May 3, 2000). He is survived by a son, James R. Lackore (Helen) of Madison, Wis.; two grandsons, James Roger Lackore (Marie) of Appleton, Wis. and Robert L. Lackore of Madison; and three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Alexander and Kylie Lackore of Appleton.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Mary Hurmence officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday, February 7, from 6-8 p.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home. Masonic Lodge #18, A.F. & A.M. will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday from 9-10 a.m.

Casketbearers are his grandsons, Robert L. and J. Roger Lackore and members of the Masonic Lodge - Clarence Russell, Robert Pavek, James Polley and Wilbur Polachek.

Honorary bearers are his great-grandsons, Alexander J. and Christopher L. Lackore and also H.S. "Rip" Streater, Dr. C.R. Kollofski, Richard Hansz and Donald Gray.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial gifts to the Shriners Children's Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., or to the donor's choice.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

LeVeille, John D.
John D. LeVeille, 83, a native of Winona and a resident of Community Living, a home for handicapped adults in Victoria, Minn., for the past 30 years, died January 29, 2001 at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, Minn., following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lake Auburn Moravian Church in Victoria, with interment in Winona.

Holzer, Darrell T.
Darrell Thomas Holzer, 52, of 618 East Seventh St., died unexpectedly Sunday, February 4, 2001 at his home.

Darrell was born on January 19, 1949 in Rochester, Minn., the son of Elizabeth Jane (Hildebrandt) and Paul Anthony Holzer. He grew up and attended schools in Winona, graduating from Cotter High School in 1967. He served from 1968-1974 in the U.S. Marine Corp, attaining the rank of Corporal during the Vietnam conflict. He returned to Winona and attended Winona State University and was an outstanding linebacker for the Warriors where he was known as the "Butkus of WSU." He also played flag football for WSU and Green Terrace. He loved baseball and played for the State Champion VFW Buddies as a catcher under the coaching of Earl Brugger and Bob Welch. He played for the Green Terrace fastpitch softball league for many years, along with many well-known Winona athletes.

Darrell also enjoyed music and was the equipment manager for both Winona area bands, The Fabulous Ferraris and the North Country Bands.

He was an avid sportsman, belonging to TIPS (Turn in Poachers), Turkey Federation and both Ducks and Trout Unlimited. He had a passion for hunting and fishing, which will always remain in his heart.

Darrell was employed earlier in his career with Reed's Tree Service, Valley Irrigation and most recently with Wapasha Construction. He took pride in everything and every job he contracted.

He was a gentle soul who was always quick with a smile and a remark for everyone. He will be greatly missed by all of us whose lives he had touched in so many ways.

He is survived by his partner in life, Pamela O'Laughlin, Winona; his pride and joy, his daughter, Hesper (Terry) Lovejoy; and a grandson, Mitchell, Burnsville, Minn.; his mother, Betty (Frank) Took; his sister, Paula (Doug) Wait of Winona and a niece Tammy; brother, Dave (Debbie) of Hayward, Cal.; and his aunts, Elaine Nelson of Davenport, IA. and Gertrude Wachawiak of St. Anne's Hospice, Winona.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Holzer.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, February 8 at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home. Officiating will be long time family friend, Rev. Paul Nelson. Military honors will be provided by the Rochester District of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.

Friends may call at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home after 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Honorary pallbearers will be Terry and Mitchell Lovejoy, William, John, Kelly and Adam O'Laughlin, Mathew King, Bruce Reed, Michael Schultz, David Fratzke, Douglas Lange, Joe Murck, Bobby Collins, Dale Arsvold, Joseph Karsina, Sam Nottleman, Al Hazelton and Joe Ives.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
