Masyga, Richard Vincent
Richard Vincent Masyga, son of Adlaide and Vincent Masyga, born February 20, 1925 in Winona, went to be with his parents on February 3, 2001, at the Arizona Veterans Home in Phoenix, Ariz.
He is survived by two daughters, Diana Marie Masyga of Phoenix, and Susan Kay Jester (David) of Gladstone, MO.; two grandchildren, Tammy Sue Jester and David Vincent Jester of Gladstone; three brothers, Robert (Jean) of Winona, Conrad (Rose) of Austin, Minn., and Gerald (Mary Kay) Masyga of Tempe, Ariz; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a World War II veteran, a life member of VFW Post 4050 in North Kansas City, MO. and Post 2306 in Beloit, Wis. He was also a life member of the Military Order of the Cooties.
Services were held at Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Thiede, Augusta S.
Augusta S. Thiede, 104, of St. Charles died Saturday, February 3, 2001, at the Whitewater Health Care Center in St. Charles.
She was born on October 18, 1896, in Mauston, Wis. to George and Emma (Matschke) Millard. She was raised in St. Charles. Augusta married Carl Thiede on November 27, 1923, in St. Charles.
The couple moved to Altura, Minn. where Augusta worked at various jobs. Carl died in 1974. Shortly after Carl's death Augusta moved to Lewiston, Minn., where she was active in volunteer work. She moved to the Nursing Home in 1995.
She was a member of St. Paul's Church in Lewiston.
Augusta is survived by one son, Harlan G. (Addie) Thiede of Bismarck, ND; one daughter Ardyce Mae Langseth of Lewiston; 7 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Betty Millard of St. Charles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, four sisters, a son Burton, and one stillborn child.
Funeral service was Tuesday, February 6, at St. Paul's Church in Lewiston with the Rev. Roy Rogers officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles.
The family prefers memorials to the donor's discretion.

Peck, Captain David R.
Captain David R. Peck, 48, Buffalo City, Wis., died Sunday, February 4, 2001, at the Emergency Room of Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, February 7 at the Stohr-Hagen-Wozney Funeral Home in Alma, Wis. Spring burial will be in Fountain City Public Cemetery.
Collins, Beverly Mae
Beverly Mae Collins, 67, Winona, died at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn. on January 27, 2001.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 10, at St. Mary's Hall, St. Mary's University Campus.
Umbreit, Daisy
Daisy Umbreit 85, died in Ashton Care Center, Pipestone, MN on Jan. 31, 2001.
She was born May 18, 1915 in Pleasant Valley, Winona County, to Walter and Alma (Schmidt) Busch. She married George Umbreit on Nov. 2, 1937.
She is survived by 3 brothers: Clarence of Cochrane, Paul of Winona and Ralph of National City, CA. She had 2 daughters and 2 sons and numerous grandchildren. Her husband and a daughter preceded her in death.
Internment was in Pipestone Cemetery.
Fleming, Sister Grace
Sister Grace Fleming, 92, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, Minn., who served as an educator, died February 3, 2001 at Assisi Heights, Rochester.
Born Alice Fleming on August 9, 1908 in Mason City, Iowa, Sister Grace entered the Franciscan Congregation in 1930 from St. Joseph Parish in Mason City. She made profession of vows in 1931 and began her teaching ministry at St. Mary Parish in Lake City, Minn. She taught in various schools in Minnesota including Austin, Currie, Caledonia, Chatfield, Winona, Wilmont, Sleepy Eye and Waseca. From 1960-63 and 1972-73 she taught at Lourdes High School, Rochester. She also taught in Ashland, KY, Norfolk, NE, and Ironton and Portsmouth, OH. She retired to Assisi Heights in 1973 and celebrated her diamond jubilee in 1991.
Sister Grace is survived by her Franciscan Community, by one sister, Sister Joan Fleming of Assisi Heights, and by a brother, John Fleming of Ocala, Fla.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 7, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes at Assisi Heights, with Rev. Jack Krough officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Assisi Heights until the time of service on Wednesday.
McNally, Sister Janet
Sister Janet McNally, 70, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, Minn., who served as a teacher and nurse, died February 5, 2001 at Assisi Heights, Rochester.
Born Frances Elaine McNally on March 11, 1930 in Austin, Minn., Sister Janet entered the Franciscan Congregation in 1948 from St. Augustine Parish in Austin. She made profession of vows in 1951 and began her teaching ministry at Sacred Heart Parish, Waseca. She taught in various schools in Minnesota including Currie, Delano, Caledonia, and from 1968-70 at St. Pius School, Rochester. She also taught in Norfolk, NE, and Ironton, OH. From 1970-1992 Sister Janet entered the nursing profession and served at St. Mary's Hospital School of Practical Nursing. She also ministered as assistant to the Congregational Health Care Coordinator at Assisi Heights and then continued her ministry at St. Mary's Hospital until coming to Assisi Heights in November due to illness. She would have celebrated her Golden Jubilee in August of this year.
Sister Janet is survived by her Franciscan Community; by five brothers: James of Lubbock, Tex., Daniel of Waukesha, Wis., Brian of Eagan, Minn., Dennis of Carson, Cal., and Thomas of St. Paul, Minn.; and by five sisters: Marian Strawn of Lompoc, Cal., Sharon Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Janet Larson of Des Moines, IA, Mary Haroldson of Fullerton, Cal., and Edith Lee of Costa Mesa, Cal.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 9, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes, Assisi Heights, with Rev. Jim Buryska officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Assisi Heights at the wake service at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 8 and also until the time of services on Friday.
Cavanaugh, Lenore "Babe" Holland
Lenore "Babe" Holland Cavanaugh, 86, died Sunday, January 28, 2001 in Detroit, Mich.
Lenore was born to Francis and Lenore O'Malley Holland on July 25, 1914 in St. Charles, Minn. She lived most of her life in Detroit.
Her two brothers, Victor and Vincent (Bro. Conrad) preceded her in death. Survivors are a few cousins.
Erickson, Goodwin
Goodwin Erickson, 91, of Callista Court, Winona, died suddenly on Tuesday, February 6, 2001.
He was born June 28, 1909. He married Norma E. Lee who preceded him in death. They had three children.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 9 at 2 p.m. at Central Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Schreiber, Margaret M.
Margaret M. Schreiber, 76, Winona, died Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at the Watkins Home.
She was born in Jamestown, ND on January 14, 1925 to Joseph and Francis Michalowski Plinski. She married Richard Schreiber on June 15, 1946 in Winona.
Survivors include her husband, Richard; two daughters, Joyce (John) Springer and Julie (Steve) Evans, both of Winona; brothers, Edward (Irene) Plinski and William (Rose) Plinski, both of Lebanon, Ore., and Robert (Darleen) Plinski of Winona; sisters, Phyllis (Ken) Prodzinski of Winona, Patricia Wachowiak of Winona, Grace (Wayne) Holte of Black Canyon, Ariz., and Viola Plinski of Winona; three grandchildren, Melissa (Paul) Taylor of Mankato, Amy (Kurt Rifenberg) Springer of Winona, and Chris (Michele) Springer of Fairbanks, Alaska; eight great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Walter and Joseph, and a sister, Harriet Smith.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 8 from 6-9 p.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, February 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with Rev. Daniel R. Dernek officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
