Small, Lorna J.
Lorna J. Small, 82, of St. Charles, MN, died Friday, July 21, 2000 at Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles.

Lorna was born November 2, 1917 in St. Charles Township to Charles and Ida (Peterson) Small.

She attended Vowel School in rural St. Charles. She had been physically handicapped since birth. Lorna lived at the Anchor Nursing Home in Rochester for 20 years then at Whitewater Healthcare Center for the past 23 years. She worked several years at Developmental Achievement Center and had attended the St. Charles Bible Church.

Survivors include a sister, Grace Barr of Canton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 25 at Hoff Funeral Home-St. Charles Chapel with Rev. Richard Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, St. Charles. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Hoff Funeral Home's - St. Charles Chapel and one hour before services Tuesday.

Hoff Funeral Home's - St. Charles Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Altobell, Sidonia Theresa
Sidonia Theresa Altobell, 87, Winona, passed away Friday, July 21, 2000 at the C&R Unit of Community Memorial Hospital.

Sidonia, known as Sid, was born March 31, 1913 in Eden Valley, MN to George and Mary (Binsfeld) Arnold II. She was married to Sandino Phillip Altobell on December 31, 1937 in Minneapolis, MN.

Sidonia was a baker for the College of Saint Teresa for 20 years.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Eagles Auxiliary.

Sidonia is survived by six children, Steven (Margaret) Altobell, Sandra Altobello, and Patricia Altobell, all of Winona, Alan (Judy) Altobell of St. Paul, MN, Carol Altobell of Sacramento, CA, and Marie (Eugene) Peterson of Circle Pines, MN; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six sisters; and three brothers.

Sidonia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson, and three brothers.

Sid will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 24 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph L. Keefe celebrant, at a time to be announced later. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and on Monday in the Commons at the church.

Casketbearers will be all of Sid's grandchildren.

A memorial is being arranged.

Symicek, Gregory J.
Gregory J. Symicek, 83, Independence, WI, died Friday, August 4, 2000 at Tri-County Memorial Nursing Home, Whitehall, Wis.

Funeral services were Monday, August 7 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Independence, with Rev. Leonard Kaiser officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Frankum, Raymond A.
Raymond A. Frankum, 81, died Thursday, August 3, 2000 at the Watkins Home in Winona.

Ray was born November 13, 1918 in Elmor, Minn. Ray served in the U.S. Army during World War II and is a decorated veteran including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Ray was an OTR truck driver for many years, and was a member of the Winona American Legion Post No. 9.

He is survived by long time companion, Sylvia Adams of Winona; five children, Bob W. Frankum of West Concord, Minn., Nyla Waddell of San Diego, Cal., Ron Frankum of Rollingstone, Minn., Gwen Frankum of Wabasha, Minn., and Roger (Sue) Frankum of Winona; fifteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Maxine (Kenneth) Ristal of Elmor, Minn., and Loretta Woltz of Florida.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jim Frankum, two brothers, Art and Delbert, and three sisters, Dora, Lona, and Alberta.

Funeral services were Monday, August 7 at Hoff Funeral Homes-Burke Winona Chapel with Peter Huggenvik officiating. Military honors were conducted at the funeral home by the Winona American Legion Post 9.

Degnan, Helen
Helen Degnan, 93, Winona, died Thursday, August 3, 2000 at St. Anne Hospice.

A Funeral Mass was offered Tuesday, August 8 at the Chapel of Our Lady at St. Anne Hospice. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Kaldunski, Rita E.
Rita E. Kaldunski, 61, 763 West Fourth St., died Saturday, August 5, 2000, at St. Elizabeth's Health Care Center, Wabasha, MN.

She was born February 5, 1939 in Schweidnitz, Schlesien, Germany to Max and Elizabeth (Stein) Gerschau. She married Robert P. Kaldunski on July 15, 1966 in St. Jakob's Church, Straubing, Germany.

She was a member of St. Casimir's Catholic Parish.

Survivors include her husband, Robert of Winona; five children, Norbert Gerschau of Fairmont, Minn., Christina (Donald) Smith, Winona, Marion (Randy) Boggan of Fayetteville, NC, and Martin Kaldunski and Karen Kaldunski, both of Winona; five grandchildren, Steven and Brandy Smith, Kaitlyn, Kourtney and Gage Boggan; a brother, Werner Gerschau, Germany; three sisters, Hildegard Mathews of West Virginia, Marianne Bolta of Savannah, GA, and Lydia Sittig of West VA.; her mother-in-law, Mary R. Kaldunski of Winona; and a sister-in-law, Alice Kaldunski of Madison, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday, August 9, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Casimir's Catholic Church with Rev. James W. Hennessy officiating. Preliminary services will be at 10 a.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jim and Jeremy Neeck, Francis Speck and Gene Gorny.

You were the best mother and wife for us, and we will miss you very dearly. We love you very much!

June, Katherine H.
Katherine H. June, 87, LaCrosse, WI, died Monday, August 7, 2000 at the home of her daughter in Winona.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 9 at 11 a. m. at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson St., LaCrosse, with Rev. Dale Howe officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Herzberg, Ralph Roy
Ralph Roy Herzberg, 80, of 709 Huff St., died Friday, September 15, 2000 at Community Memorial Hospital.

Ralph was born in Milton Township of Buffalo County, Wis., on September 11, 1920 to Albert E. and Clara (Moor) Herzberg. He married Evelyn K. Glowczewski on June 29, 1949 at St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church in Winona.

He worked as a maltster for Froedtert Malt Company of Winona for 32-1/2 years, retiring in 1982. Ralph is a lifelong resident of the Winona-Fountain City area.

He is a member of St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church, Winona, where he is a past member of its church council and a past member of the school board.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 51 years, Evelyn; a son, Michael Herzberg of Winona; a daughter, Sharon (Larry) Simmons, Simpsonville, SC; a grandson, Jon Faulkenberry of Covington, KY; a granddaughter, Sara (Josh) Larke of Greenville, SC; a special niece, Judith (James) Stanislawski of Winona; a sister, Arlene (Daniel) Kirk of Watertown, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

Funeral services were Monday, September 18 at St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church with Revs. Oliver H. Lindholm and James Nelson officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church or to the Sauer Memorial Home.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
