Linda M. Bublitz, 88, Rushford, MN, died Tuesday, December 28, 1999 at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.

Funeral services were Monday, January 3 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hart, MN, with Rev. William Mueller officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Wenk, Irwin R.
Irwin R. Wenk, 80, Rt. 2, Winona, died Wednesday, December 29, 1999 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, LaCrosse, WI.

Irwin was born in Wiscoy Township of Winona County on April 12, 1919, the son of John N. and Emma (Mueller) Wenk.

He was born, raised and attended school in Wiscoy Township. From the age of 14 he farmed until retiring in 1990. Irwin never married.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wilson, MN.

He is survived by a nephew, Gerald Oech, Rt. 2, Winona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services were Monday, January 3 at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home with Rev. David Pries of Grace Lutheran Church, Ridgeway, MN officiating.

Casketbearers were James and Bruce Belter, Kenneth Bergmann, Allen Mueller, Terry Ledebuhr and Glen Warnken.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Wilson, MN.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Johnson, Harland L.
Harland L. Johnson, 60, 1561 Circle Drive, died Wednesday, December 29, 1999 at Community Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 2, 1939 in Town of Coon, Vernon County, WI, to Jimmy and Jessie (Holter) Johnson. He married Carol Vaughn on September 8, 1962 in LaCrosse, WI.

He was employed as branch manager at Woodruff Company in Winona, a plumbing and heating wholesaler. Previously he was employed at W.A. Roosevelt Company in LaCrosse, WI before moving to Winona in 1974 to work at Judd Co.

He was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Parish, Winona Elks #327, and was previously an active member of the Winona Rod and Gun Club.

Harland loved his wife, children and grandchildren very much. He was a devoted husband and father, always proud of his family's accomplishments. Besides traveling and spending time with his family, he enjoyed reading, hunting and woodworking.

He served in the U.S. Marine Reserves.

Survivors include his wife, Carol of Winona; two daughters, Linda (Thomas) Lilla of Winona and Joanne (Paul) Tollison, Red Wing, MN; one son, Gregg Johnson, St. Paul, MN; two grandchildren, Joshua and Allyssa Tollison; and a sister, Janice Peterson of Viroqua, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Funeral services were Sunday, January 2 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church with Rev. John M. Sauer officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his two sons-in-law, Thomas Lilla and Paul Tollison and Mark, Steve and Dave Ingram and Jay Pronschinske.

Nelson, Margaret
Margaret Nelson, 89, died Thursday, December 30, 1999 at St. Anne Hospice, Winona.

Margaret was born December 24, 1910 in Minneapolis, MN. She graduated from Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing. She married Norman Nelson on June 20, 1937.

As the wife of a U.S. forest ranger, she lived in communities within the Chequamegon, Superior and Ottawa National Forests. Since 1996 she has lived in Winona.

She was a member of Central Lutheran Church in Winona and the Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen (O.J.) Fawcett of Winona and Sandra (Johnny) Adams of Plymouth, MN; four grandchildren: John (Yoko) Adams, Spencer, IA, David Fawcett, Minneapolis, Mary (Song) Fawcett, St. Paul and Amy (Pepe) Martin, Paamul, Mexico; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988, her son John, in 1975, a sister and brother.

Funeral services were Monday, January 3 at Peace Lutheran Church in Park Falls, WI, with Rev Stanley Bahn officiating.Burial was in Nola Cemetery, Park Falls.

Memorials may be directed to St. Anne Hospice or Central Lutheran Church.

Arrangements were by Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home.

Kouba, Frank R. "Frankie"
Frank R. "Frankie" Kouba, 84, 849 East Mark St., died Friday, December 31, 1999 at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.

He was born March 25, 1915 in Winona to John C. and Helen (Deilke) Kouba. He married Marie W. Gora on May 8, 1937 in Winona. In May 1999 Frank and Marie celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.

He was employed at the Gorman Company for over 35 years, retiring in 1981.

Frank was a member of St. John Nepomucene Parish and the Winona Athletic Club. As a professional boxer in the 1930's, he won more than 35 matches. He trained under Silver Perry and his boxing career took him throughout the Upper Midwest, from Duluth and Aberdeen, SD to Winona and LaCrosse. In the 1940's Frank also played fastpitch softball. In the 1960's he operated the Twilight grocery on Mankato Avenue as well as the Rustic Tavern.

He loved hunting rabbit and squirrel and also pan fishing. His other hobbies were gardening, bowling and walking the bike path around Lake Winona. He was an avid sports fan of WSU and St. Mary's and especially the Gopher and Twins teams.

He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife, Marie; one son, David (Donna) Kouba, Winona; two daughters, Janet (James) Moore, Genoa, IL and Frances (Dennis) Parker, Pequot Lakes, MN; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and two brothers, Clifford (Barbara) Kouba, Long Beach, MS and Richard (Patricia) Kouba, Lincoln, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sons, Frank and Joseph, one great-grandchild, seven sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services were Tuesday, January 4 at St. John Nepomucene Church with Rev. Robert G. Meyer officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Kouba, Jeff Kouba, Jerry Kouba, Daniel Moore, James Ray Moore II, Bradley Parker, Joe Kouba, David Parker, Brian Moore, Scott Kouba, Jamie Kouba and Andy Herold.

Miesbauer, R.E. "Rudy"
R.E. "Rudy" Miesbauer, 72, of Rt. 3, Pleasant Valley, Winona, died Saturday, January 1, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN.

Rudy was born June 19, 1927 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Dorothy Catherine (Geffert) and Joseph Frank Miesbauer. He married Joyce Alma-Marie Burkholz on April 14, 1951 at the Siloah Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Oak Hill from June of 1945 to August of 1946. Following the war, he returned to his native Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1950.

He worked as a purchasing agent for the Abel & Bach Company, Milwaukee before moving to Winona in 1960. At that time he co-founded Winona Industries, Inc. In 1990, he founded Winona Manufacturing, retiring in 1998.

He was a member and former trustee of Central Lutheran Church, past advisor to the Winona Community Chest, past president of the Winona Country Club, member of the BASOS Investment Club and also of the U.S. Manufacturer's Association.

Rudy was a devoted, loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He loved the game of golf, playing a card game of Smear, gardening and traveling with his wife. Rudy will be remembered for being an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers!

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; one son, Steven (Vicki) of Clemson, SC; one daughter, Alison (Tom) Plemmons of Winona; four grandchildren, Mark and Jeffrey Miesbauer and Andrew and Melissa Plemmons; his mother-in-law, Lorayne Burkholz of Winona; one brother, Robert (Carrie) of Rohnert Park, CA; and a sister, Rae (Bill) Fenner, Ft. Pierce, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were Tuesday, January 4 at Central Lutheran Church with Rev. Wade E. Davick officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery where military honors were provided by the American Legion, Leon J. Wetzel Post#9, Winona.

Pallbearers were Dick Ahrens, Dennis Lubinski, Len Bernatz, Oran Featherstone, Ron Wanek and Jack Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers were Bob Helberg, Herb Hassinger and Harold Libera.

Memorials may be designated to the Central Lutheran Church, Community Memorial Hospital or the American Cancer Society.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
