Nisbit, Cora M.
Cora M. Nisbit, 98, St. Charles, MN, died Monday, February 21, 2000 at Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles.

She was born April 2, 1901 to John A. and Caroline M. (Honsey) Johnson in Bratsberg, Fillmore County. She grew up in Rushford, MN and Nome, ND. Cora moved back to the Winona area and was then married to Thomas Nisbit on February 22, 1927 in Winona.

Around 1928 they moved to Rochester. In 1938 they moved to St. Charles, living there until 1945 when they moved back to Winona. In 1956 they moved to Stockton where they ran the General Store and Post Office until 1974. Thomas died April 23, 1973. Cora moved back to St. Charles in 1974 and has resided there since.

She was a member of North Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Lanesboro, its Ladies Aid, St. Charles Senior Citizens and the Royal Neighbors of America. She enjoyed spending time with her great-granddaughter, baking and crocheting.

She is survived by a son, William "Bill" (Audrey) of St. Paul; a daughter, Lorraine (Raymond) Buege of St. Charles; four grandchildren, Lori (Mike) Graham, Brian (Susan) Nisbit, Chris (Toni) Nisbit, and Daniel (Angie) Nisbit; one great-granddaughter, Brianna Sue Nisbit; a brother, Leonard Johnson of Lisbon, ND; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, six brothers, Clarence, Art, Bob, Lloyd, George, Oliver and two sisters, Etta and Bertine.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 25 at Hoff Funeral Homes-St. Charles Chapel with Rev. Lynn Zaffke officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, February 24 at Hoff Funeral Homes-St. Charles Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Hoff Funeral Homes-St.Charles Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Kroning, Nora M.
Nora M. Kroning, 99, of Alexandria, VA, died Sunday, January 16, 2000 at Goodwin House in Alexandria of cardiopulmonary failure and pneumonia.

Nora was born September 4, 1900 to Herman and Mary (Hannebauer) Kroning in St. Charles, MN. She was the eldest of seven children. Nora graduated from New York University in 1928. She moved to Washington, D.C. in the 1940's. She worked as a statistician for the Securities and Exchange Commission and also for the Department of the Navy in Naval Aircraft Logistics, retiring in 1965. After retirement she worked in retail sales at Kann's Department Store in downtown Washington, D.C. and also was a volunteer at the Kennedy Center.

She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Washington, D.C. chapter and held an executive position in it in 1954. She was a member of Berea Moravian Church and a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Sunshine Chapter No. 98, St. Charles, MN.

She enjoyed traveling, especially her visits to China, Israel, Africa and Hawaii. She moved from downtown Washington, D.C. to Goodwin House in 1986.

She is survived by a brother, Clarence Kroning of Naples, FL; nieces, Barbara Keller of Annandale, VA, Patricia McCallum of Alexandria, VA, Melissa Kroning Lowe of Chevy Chase, MD, Linda Kroning of Chicago, IL, and Mary Wagoner Sanders of Ft. Madison, IA; a nephew, Robert Happel of Holmen, WI; and thirteen grand-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Happel and Clara Bledsoe, and three brothers, Hubert, Carl and Walter Kroning.

A Committal Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 11 at Berea Moravian Church in rural St. Charles with Rev. Keith Harke officiating.

Memorials are preferred to Berea Church.

Hoff Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Olson, Curtis J.
Curtis J. Olson, 91, passed away Friday, March 3, 2000 at the LaCrescent Health Care Center, LaCrescent, MN.

He was born April 22, 1908 to Carl and Hilda (Johnson) Olson in Pickwick,

Curtis lived and farmed in Pickwick Valley on the home farm all his life, until moving to the LaCrescent Health Care Center in 1997. He worked in construction, retiring in 1970 as a cement mason from the Kelly Construction Company, LeCenter, MN.

He was a great lover of animals and through the years had many pets, including several raccoons, dogs and cats.

Curtis was united in marriage with Daisy Hicks on December 7, 1931. They were later divorced.

He is survived by two children, a son, Keith (Mary Ann) Olson of Pickwick and a daughter, Dawn Mrozek of Bossler City, LA; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Curtis was preceded in death by his mother and father, former wife, Daisy, two brothers, Oscar and Hector, one sister, Clara Haake Colburn, and a son-in-law, Hubert Mrozek.

Funeral services were Monday, March 6 at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home with Rev. Kris Fahey of Cedar Valley Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in Bush Cemetery, Ridgeway, MN.

Casketbearers were grandsons, Keith Jr., and Kevin Olson, Ron Cummings, Mike, Randy and Steven Mrozek.

Memorials may be directed to Bush Cemetery or the charity of the donor's choice.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.

Pozar, Dorothy Cada Wood
Dorothy M. Pozar, 84, of Libby, MT, died Saturday, February 19, 2000 at the Libby Care Center.

Services were held Wednesday, February 25 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Libby.

Walsky, Ive Mae
Ive Mae Walsky, 74, Rt. 1, Rushford, MN, died Monday, February 28, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN.

Ive was born in Fountain City, WI on July 24, 1925 to Albert and Clara (Moor) Herzberg. On June 15, 1949 she married Harry M. Walsky at St. Casimir's Catholic Church in Winona.

She was a bookkeeper for the family farm in Wiscoy Township of Winona County. Ive is a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Wilson, MN and its Ladies Aid. She is also a past chair of the Wiscoy School Board.

Ive is survived by her husband, Harry; three sons, Steven (Jeanne) and Thomas (Susan) Walsky, both of Rushford and Richard Walsky, Winona; a daughter, Judy Stanislowski; grandchildren, Chad (Jessie Becker) Walsky, Sara, Tesia and Haley Walsky; a great-granddaughter, Emma Walsky; a brother, Ralph (Evelyn) Herzberg; and a sister, Arlene (Dan) Kirk.

Ive was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Funeral services were Friday, March 3 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wilson, MN, with Father Michael Cronin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Casketbearers were Chad, Sara, Tesia and Haley Walsky, Scott Fabian and Jerry Beier.

Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Foundation or to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Jeremiassen, J.L.
J.L. (Jerry) Jeremiassen, died March 5, 2000 at the Watkins Home in Winona.

Jerry was born May 17, 1912 in Ault, CO, the son of John and Karen (Rasmussen) Jeremiassen. Jerry attended UCLA and graduated from Stanford University in 1936. He also was a graduate of the Harvard Advanced Management Program in 1952. He married Marian Holliday in Laramie, WY on August 26, 1939.

Jerry started his lumber industry career in Laramie, WY in 1938 with Tri-State Lumber and held various management positions with Tri-State in Reno, NV, Ogden, UT, and Salt Lake City, UT, before moving to Boise, ID as Vice President of Retail Operations for Boise Payette (Boise Cascade) Lumber Co. In 1954 he moved to Winona as President of Botsford Lumber Co. In 1961 he combined Botsford and Hayes-Lucas Lumber Co. to form United Building Centers, Inc. (UBC) and was its President and CEO until his retirement in 1977. Jerry was also Executive-Vice President and board member of UBC's parent company, Laird-Norton Co. (Lanoga Corp.), Seattle, WA.

In Boise, Jerry was a member and president of the Arid Club, a board member of St. Luke's Hospital, Trustee of the College of Idaho (Albertson College) and an active member of Hillcrest Country Club.

In Winona, Jerry was a board member of the Gamehaven Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Rochester, MN. He was active with Community Memorial Hospital, serving as Chairman of the Building Campaign in 1959 and as board member and a term as President. Jerry also served on the boards of Norwest Bank Winona and Reserve Supply Co., Minneapolis, MN. He was a member of the Winona Country Club and served as its President from 1979-1982.

In 1983, Jerry and Marian returned to Boise to enjoy their retirement until after Marian's death. He then moved back to Winona in 1996 to be near family. Jerry also was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John, a sister, Ann, and his wife, Marian.

He is survived by his son, John (Judi) Jeremiassen of Winona; grandson, Rob (Samantha), great-grandson, Jackson of Austin, TX; grandson Tom (Tracy) Jeremiassen of Agoura Hills, CA, and his son, Paul (Ann) Jeremiassen, granddaughter, Holly and grandson, Eric of Lafayette, CA.

Jerry was highly respected and known as a very gentle and fair man who will be greatly missed by those who loved him, especially his children and grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held this summer in Laramie, WY. The family requests memorials to be sent to Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.

Local arrangements were by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona.
