Prigge, Vernon Emil

Vernon Emil Prigge, 77, of Winona and formerly of Lewiston died Wednesday morning July 25th at Sauer Memorial Home in Winona.
He was born July 7, 1925 in Winona County to Emil and Bertha (Wachholz) Prigge and was raised on the family farm in Hillsdale Township. At a young age he worked at the John Deere plant in Waterloo, Iowa. During WWII he returned to work the family farm. He farmed on the family "Century Farm" in Hillsdale Township and spent winters in Texas and Oklahoma. Vernon retired two years ago and moved to Winona.
Vernon was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church - Silo in rural Lewiston all of his life. He was also a member of the church choir.
He never married. Survivors include a sister Pearl (Arthur) Gensmer of Pine River, MN, one nephew Gavin (Sharon) Gensmer of Paris, Tennessee, two nieces Gloria (Richard) Felthous of Pine River and Mary Jo Prigge of Rochester, 4 step-nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
His parents, an infant sister Violet, a brother Donald, a niece Grace Blanchard preceded him in death.
Funeral Services were at 10:30 AM Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church - Silo with the Rev. William Meilner officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Snyder, Georgina E.

Georgina E. Snyder, 90, died Monday, July 22, 2002 at Bethany-St. Joseph Care Center.
Funeral services were Friday, July 26 at Onalaska United Methodist Church with Rev. Wesley Schirmer officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Olson, Shirley Ann (Scheidegger)

Shirley Ann (Scheidegger) Olson, 70, of Waumandee, Wis., died Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Friday, July 26, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waumandee, with Rev. Bill Matzek officiating.

Weaver, Alice M.

Alice M. Weaver, 72, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at Lake Winona Manor.
Alice was born February 10, 1930 in Winona, to Otto and Isabelle "Belle" (Burns) Tarras. On June 29, 1963 she married Norman Weaver in Winona.
Alice was a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 28 years, retiring on March 6, 1982. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Winona and the Red Men's Club.
Survivors include her husband, Norman "Uncle Normie"; two brothers, Ches (Irene) Tarras of Winona and Wally Tarras of Loomis, Cal.; a sister, Joyce Bell of Winona; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Friday, July 26 at Hoff Funeral Homes - Burke Winona Chapel with Rev. Daniel Dernek officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Mogren, Etta "Birdie"

Etta B. "Birdie" Mogren, age 79, of Winona, died on Thursday, July 25, 2002 at Lake Winona Manor.
Etta Burdell was born on November 5, 1922 in Lions Head, Ontario, Canada to Kenneth and Isabelle (Wyonch) McLay. On July 3, 1945, she married Harold S. Mogren in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada.
Birdie served in the Canadian Women's Army Corp during WW II. She was employed as a waitress at the Steak Shop, Winona for many years and was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Winona and the American Legion Post #9. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Harold, Winona; a son, Ken (Sally) Mogren, Winona; four daughters, Gloria (Steve) Keller, Hudson, WI, Linda (Jeff) McQuinn, Bolingbrook, IL, Carol (Doug) Arnold, Owatonna, MN and Stephanie (Jeff) Ryan, Winona; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two brothers, Kenneth McLay, Barrie, Ontario, Canada and Arnold McLay, Sarnia, Ontario, Canada; one sister, Ann (Carl) Reynolds, Cambridge, Ontario, Canada and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 29, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Central Lutheran Church, Winona, with Rev. Michelle Rem officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona, with military rites provided by American Legion Post #9.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 28, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona and at the church on Monday one hour prior to the service.
Casket Bearers will be the grandsons: Paul Keller, Sam, Max, and Ben Mogren, Sean and Eric McQuinn, Joseph and Timothy Arnold, Scotty, Joseph, Nicholas, and Alexander Ryan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Central Lutheran Church, Winona, American Cancer Society Winona Chapter or the Winona Area Hospice.
Funeral arrangements are being completed by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

McVey, Gerald W.

Gerald W. McVey, age 84, of Winona, died on Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at his home.
Jerry was born December 25, 1917, in Cashton, WI to Cash J. and Mary L. (Byer) McVey. His family moved to Winona in 1929 and opened the College Inn Restaurant. Jerry spent a summer in La Crosse, learning how to make ice cream, and when he returned to Winona, the restaurant began making the frozen treat and was re-named McVey's Ice Cream Shop. On the corner of Huff and 9th, it remained a popular family business until 1984, when he and his brother, Clem, sold the shop and retired.
Jerry was a graduate of Winona Senior High School and attended Winona State Teachers' College. He moved to Los Angeles prior to WW II to do experimental work for Douglas Aircraft. On December 5, 1942, he married Deloris Evelyn Theisen in Beverly Hills. He worked as a flight mechanic with the RAF and then served as a maintenance instructor with the Army Air Corps. He saw action in the South Pacific, attached to the B-29 9th Bomb Group.
Jerry was a member of Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Winona, the Golden Kiwanis, the YMCA (where he engaged in spirited volleyball games), the Knights of Columbus and the 20th Air Force Association. He served on the board of the Winona Chapter of the American Cancer Society for 18 years.
Jerry touched many with his kindness and goodness; he will be missed.
He is survived by his wife Deloris, Winona; two sons: Dennis (Joan) McVey of Corte Madera, CA and Douglas (Sharon) McVey of La Crosse, WI; a granddaughter Erin McVey and a grandson Wells Pollock; and a brother Clem (Charlotte) McVey of the country of Luxembourg.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 29, 2002 at 10:00 AM at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Winona, with Rev. Shawn T. Haremza, officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 28, from 5:30 - 8:30 PM at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona and at the church one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Winona Area Hospice.
Arrangements are being completed by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

Konsela, Elsie Mary Martha

Elsie Mary Martha Konsela, 91 of Chetek, Wis. and formerly of La Crosse passed away peacefully at the Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek on Wednesday, July 24, 2002. She was born on August 8, 1910 in the Township on Montana, Buffalo County, Wisconsin to John Jr. and Mary (Bautch) Konter. Elsie married Valentine Bernard Konsela on February 25, 1930 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waumandee, Wis. He died on July 30, 1988.
Elsie is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Jerry) Grenawalt of Chetek; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; fourteen step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucy Wenger and Clara Pieper both of La Crosse, Wis.; a brother, Clarence (Berniece) Konter of Zumbrota, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Jennie Pogreba of Whitehall, Wis. and two brothers-in-law, Joseph Konsela of Northfield, Wis. and August (Myrna) Konsela of Manitowoc, Wis. as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Valentine, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Ralph, Roman, Alphonse, Emil and Louie Konter.
A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Monday, July 29, 2002 at Mary Mother Of The Church Parish, St. Thomas More Catholic Church. The Rev. David Kunz will officiate. Entombment will be in the Garden Of Peace Mausoleum, Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Sunday from 6 to 8 PM and on Monday from 9 AM until departing for the church. A rosary will be recited on Sunday at 7:30 PM.

Cripps, Pearl E.

Pearl E. Cripps, 73, of rural Houston, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Caledonia, Minn. Pearl was born on January 29, 1929, in Forward, Wisconsin to Preston and Stella (Norland) Erdahl. She was raised in Stoughton, Wisconsin. She married Donald Cripps on January 23, 1951 in Madison, Wisconsin. She and Don moved to the Houston, Minn. area where they lived all of their married lives. Pearl enjoyed flower gardening, bird watching, collecting Harley Davidson memorabilia and especially going on rides with Don on his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. She and Don had attended the Sturgis Cycle Rally for the last 11 years. Pearl is survived by her husband Don; seven children: Victoria (Gary) Crist of Floodwood, Minn., Kathleen Cripps of Farmington, Minn., Alan (Karen) Cripps, Sandra Cripps, both of Houston, Clayton (Lisa) Cripps of Apple Valley, California, Elizabeth Cripps of Winona, and Paul (Carolyn) Cripps of Houston, Minn.; 11 grandchildren: Charisse, Vanessa, Nicole, Derick, Kristine, Katelyn, Adam, Erik, Brianna, Justin, and Jacob; two great-grandchildren: Marcus and Damien; three brothers: Ervin (Shirley) Erdahl, Roger (Billie) Erdahl, and Kenneth (Bobbie) Erdahl; three sisters: Shirley Krueger, Janet (Jerry) Majors, and Marilyn (Allyn) Fahr ney; and one sister-in-law, Loretta Erdahl. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Sanford and Leroy; and one sister, Doris. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, at the Stone Church in rural Houston with the Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Hoff Funeral Homes ­ Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

Stow, Donald H.

Donald H. Stow, 73 E. King St., died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Sauer Memorial Home.
Donald was born July 29, 1937, in Winona to Hale and Emgert (Stephan) Stow.
He married Diane M. Galewski on June 12, 1971 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona.
He attended Winona State Teachers College and graduated from Mankato State College, Mankato, Minn., with a bachelor of science degree in music education. He completed graduate work at Mankato State and held a graduate assistantship in the Music Department there.
Donald was a former music teacher in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He was also formerly employed at Yellow Cab of Winona, Winona industries and retired from Cytec-Fiberite, Winona.
He was a member of the Auto License Plate Collectors Association and a former member of the Winona Symphony and the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart choir.
Donald is survived by his wife, a son, Greg (Amie Harris) of Winona, a daughter, Emily, of Burnsville, Minn., and a grandson, Evan of Burnsville; two brothers, John (Cecile) of Sparta, Wis., and Raymond (Joyce) of Marion, Iowa; and a half-sister, Margaret Woods, of Oxford Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-brother, Robert Stow.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Monday, May 6, 2002, at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Winona, with the Rev. Shawn Haremza, officiating. Burial was in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Pallbearers were his nephews: Allen Stow, Bryan Stow, Brad Lundstrom, Steve Brandt, Doug SaveHinrichs and Joe Galewski.
Memorials can be made to Winona Area Hospice Association or the American Cancer Society.

Johnson, Anne D.

Anne D. Johnson, 67, died Sunday, May 5, 2002 at her home in Rollingstone, Minn.
Anne was born October 5, 1934 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Donald and Grace (Sheneberger) Winters.
Anne was a secretary for the First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids and then moved to Minneapolis in 1960 where she was the secretary at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She also worked at the Augsburg Publishing House. While she was working for Pure Oil as an office secretary she met Lynn Johnson and they were married November 27, 1965. They moved to Rollingstone in 1969 when Lynn was transferred. In Winona, Anne worked at the J.C. Penney Co. until it closed and then worked at the Winona License Center from which she retired in October 2001 after 14 years of service.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Winona.
Survivors include her son, Jeffrey L. Johnson of Belle Plaine, Minn.; her mother, Grace Winters; aunt and uncle, Phyllis and William Rice of Charlotte, NC; and cousins, Barbara Wilbur and her family of Columbus, MS., and Mary Noble and her family of Charlotte, NC.
Anne's husband, Lynn, and father, Donald preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 9 at 7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Dumke officiating. Burial of Anne's cremated body will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Rollingstone. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to the Winona Hospice or Faith Lutheran Church.
Hoff Funeral Homes - Burke Winona Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
