Bambenek, David F.

David F. Bambenek, 51, Tampa, Fla., died Thursday, July 26, 2001 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.
He was born January 24, 1950 in LaCrosse, Wis. to Theodore and Mary A. (Pellowski) Bambenek.
He graduated from St. Mary's College in Winona in 1972. David was employed as a Federal bank examiner for the U.S. Government, working in the southeast district.
He enjoyed golfing and spent leisure time at the horse races.
Survivors include his father, Theodore "Ted" Bambenek of Winona; a brother, Ted Jr. (Cathy) Bambenek of Dallas, Tex.; and a foster sister, Betty (Max) Box of Phoenix, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Funeral services were Tuesday, July 31 at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Chapel, Winona. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona.
The family respectfully requests that memorials be given to the Leukemia or Cancer Society.

Nelton, Eugene F. "Bud"

Eugene F. "Bud" Nelton, 83, formerly of 861 West Fifth St., died Saturday, July 28, 2001 at St. Anne Hospice.
He was born July 15, 1918 in Winona to Harry E. and Gladys (McKeown) Nelton. He married Dorothy L. Freye on June 6, 1946 in Winona. She died September 24, 2000.
He was employed as a head supervisor in the galvanizing department of Behrens, Mfg., having worked there for 39 years, retiring in 1984.
Bud greatly enjoyed fishing and offering his carpentry skills to lend a hand to those in need.
He was a member of the American Legion Club for over 50 years.
He served in Germany in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane Nelton; five sons, twins Paul (Karen) Nelton and Phillip Nelton, Steve Nelton and Keith (Becky) Nelson, all of Winona, and Thomas (Nancy P.) Nelton of Minnesota City, Minn.; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a great-grandchild, and two sisters, Irene Bambenek and Geneva Fort.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 2, at 11 a.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Chapel with Rev. Joseph Keefe officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Stockton, Minn. where the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post #9 will provide military honors.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5:30-8 p.m. at the funeral home with a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m.
Members of the American Legion will serve as pallbearers.

Bohlinger, Margaret Mary

Margaret Mary Bohlinger, age 74, of Alma, Wis., died Saturday, July 29, 2001 at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.
She was born April 1, 1927 in Arcadia, Wis. to Paul and Mary (Marsolek) Kokott. On May 31, 1947 she married Carroll A. Bohlinger in LaCrosse, Wis.
Margaret was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waumandee, Wis.
She is survived by her husband, Carroll A. Bohlinger of Alma; two daughters, Sherry Porter of Janesville, Wis., and Mary Kay Foust of Alma; a son, Bill (Mary) Bohlinger of Buffalo City, Wis.; five grandchildren, Andie, Jenny (Kevin Stalsberg), Doug and Tim Porter, and Matt (Stephanie) Foust; four great-grandchildren, Klay, Cody, Ben and Deagan; four sisters, Julie Karis, Mary Beck, and Agnes Wood, all of Winona, and Claire Heinske of Garner, NC.; a brother, Andy Kokott of Menominee, Mich.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three daughters, one son, her parents, two sisters, Helen Anderson and Rose Voelker, and one brother, Frankie Kokott.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 4, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waumandee with Father John W. Steiner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Stohr-Hagen-Wozney Funeral Home in Alma, where there will be a 7 p.m. prayer service followed by a rosary. Friends may also call from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church in Waumandee.
Memorials are preferred to St. Boniface Catholic School.
Stohr-Hagen-Wozney Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Santelman, Lawrence Harry

Lawrence Harry Santelman, 90, of Prescott, Wis., formerly of Buffalo City, Wis., and Winona, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at the St. Croix Care Center in Prescott.
Lawrence was born April 9, 1911, in Claybank, Goodhue County, Minn., to William and Anna (Sass) Santelman. He lived in Red Wing, Minn., where he graduated from high school and later graduated from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn.
He married Charlotte Jacobson in Cyrus, Minn., on July 2, 1937. They recently observed their 64th wedding anniversary.
Lawrence coached basketball and football in the Lewiston, Minn., and Rushford, Minn. schools, before becoming a member of the Winona Public School's coaching staff in 1936. He was active on the Winona Public School Board for 11 years, president for 10 years, and was a former president of the Winona Baseball Organization. He served in the Navy as a Lt. J.G. during World War II.
Lawrence was the owner of the Winona Feed and Implement and Sugar Loaf Feed Stores, which later merged with the Farmer's Exchange in Winona, of which he was a partner.
He was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Winona.
His wife, Charlotte, and four children survive him:
Roger (Karen) Santelman of Prescott, granddaughter, Laura (Greg) Goeke and great-grandchildren, Maren and Megan Goeke of Maple Grove, Minn., grandson, Steven (Tracy) Santelman and great-granddaughter, Nora Charlotte Santelman of Pleasant Plain, Ohio, grandson, Craig (Nicole) Santelman and great-grandchildren, Devon, Alec and Anders Santelman;
Charles (Judy) Santelman and grandchildren, Christopher and Kacey of Las Vegas, Nev.;
Karen (William) Burmeister of St. Cloud, Minn., and grandchildren, Aaron (Karen) of Shorewood, Minn., and Audra of Winona;
Joan (Doug) Macdonell and grandchildren, Jessica and Thomas Storrer of Hudson, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, Lloyd, and sister, Syvilla Aplin.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 3, in the chapel of the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, Hastings, Minn. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Red Wing. The American flag will be presented to great-grandson, Alec Lawrence Santelman.
Memorials may be directed to Central Lutheran Church, Winona.

Wendt, Louise A.

Louise A. Wendt, 81, of 378 East Howard St., died Monday, July 30, 2001 at St. Anne Hospice.
She was born August 11, 1919 in Winona to Frank and Mary (Cichosz) Stoltman. She married John W. Wendt on August 23, 1941 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Winona. He died March 23, 1986.
She was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Parish and its funeral choir, Harvest House, and Apostolate for Older Adults.
Louise always saw the simple things of life as the most important. She found delight in her family, her religion, the wonders of nature and music. She especially loved little children and their antics. When her great-grandchildren came to visit, it was hard to tell who had more fun as they played together.
Her love of life was evident to all in her bright smile and her shining blue eyes, whether riding her bike, volunteering her time to cheer others, singing in choral groups or just being with family and friends. These things and many others will be treasured memories for all who knew her.
She is survived by one son, David (Sherri) Wendt of Winona; three daughters, Joanne (C.L.) Gilbertson of Dodge, Wis., Mary Lou (Roger) Ferguson of LaCrosse, Wis., and Kay (Gary) Yee of San Pablo, Cal.; eight grandchildren: Wendy (Bruce) Schneider, Lori (Joe) Brandon, David Ferkingstad, Stacy (Todd) Winchester, Michelle Yee, Rod (Kim) Musel, Trenton (Janet) Musel, and Angelique (John) Anders; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy (Norman) Giere of Rochester, Minn.; and a brother, Joseph (Catherine) Stoltman of Winona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son, and two brothers, Eugene and Frank Stoltman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, August 3, at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church with Rev. John M. Sauer officiating. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home and again on Friday from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at the church. There will be a Christian Wake Service on Thursday at 7 p.m. and a Harvest House Prayer Service at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Larry Stoltman, Joe Stoltman, Paul Stoltman, David Ferkingstad, Rod Musel and Kip Gilbertson.
A memorial is being arranged.

Hansen, Eleanor Beatrice

Eleanor "Ellie" B. Hansen, age 76, of 605 East Mark Street, Winona, died on Wednesday, April 3, 2002, of pneumonia in the intensive care unit of Community Memorial Hospital, Winona
Eleanor was born on October 5, 1925 in Northfield, WI to Ernest and Gladys (Peterson) Lebakken.
On June 4, 1944, she married Rolland R. Hansen in Winona. She was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Winona.
Eleanor graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1943. She worked for S.S. Kresge in Winona for 26 years before taking over as manager in 1974. She later managed a Kresge store in St. Paul, MN and K-Mart stores in both Minnesota and Wisconsin before retiring in 1988. She then moved back to Winona and worked at Hal Leonard Corporation until the time of her death.
She enjoyed camping and traveling in their 5th wheel, bowling, reading and spending time with family.
Eleanor will be sadly missed by her husband of 57 years, Rolland of Winona; a daughter Diane (Robert) Larson of Winona; grandchildren: Rollin (Cathy) Larson of Winona, Robin (Jim) Lejk of Winona, Ronda (Mike) Kaiser of Rollingstone; great-grandchildren: Gretchen, Samuel, Isaac and Lucas Larson of Winona, and Aaron, Morgan, and Jaden Kaiser of Rollingstone; brothers Ronald (Aggie) Lebakken of Pittsburgh, PA, and Jerry (Pat) Lebakken of White Bear Lake, MN; sisters Kate Todd of Cottonwood, AZ and Sharon Alt of Mesa, AZ and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Beverly Marshall.
Funeral services were Friday, April 5, 2002 at 1:00 PM at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Winona with the Rev. Timothy Dost, officiating. Entombment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Casket bearers were her nephews: Jeff Marshall, Curt Hansen, Jamie Lebakken, Jerry Lebakken, Jamie Hansen and Doug Marshall.
Honorary casket bearers were her great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Winona.
Funeral arrangements were completed by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

Miranda, Sherryl Mae

Sherryl Mae Miranda, age 64, of Winona, died on Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at Methodist Hospital, Rochester.
Sherryl was born on April 27, 1937 in Winona, MN to Evan and Dorothy (Werner) Beynon. She graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1955. On December 5, 1959, she married Richard J. Miranda at McKinley United Methodist Church, Winona. She was a life long resident of the Winona area and a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Winona.
She was formerly employed as a medical secretary for Gundersen Clinic, La Crosse, WI and of Community Memorial Hospital, Winona. She became a dedicated homemaker, after her children were born.
She is survived by her husband Richard of Winona; two sons, Mark (Nadia) Miranda of Trempealeau, WI and Michael (Megan) Miranda of St. Louis Park, MN; 5 grandchildren: Mark Jr., Thomas, Lauren, Evan and Ellie; and her mother Dorothy Beynon of Winona.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorial services will be Monday, April 8, 2002 at 1:30 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona with Rev. Timothy Dost, pastor of St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Winona, officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Funeral arrangements are being completed by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.
