Hanson, O. Gary

O. Gary Hanson, 63, of Wadena, Minn., died Monday, April 1, 2002 at Fairview-University Medical Center, Minneapolis, Minn.
Funeral services were Thursday, April 4, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wadena, with Revs. Marilyn Breckenridge and Jon Larson officiating. Services were also held Friday, April 5, at Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson, Minn. Burial was in West Grace Lutheran Cemetery, rural Peterson, Minn.

Forward, John

John "Jack" Alfred Forward, 66, of Altura, Minn., died March 22, 2002 while vacationing in Saleaja, Guatemala.
John was born September 3, 1935 in Canada. He served in the Canadian Air Force. He finished high school in South Central Los Angeles. In 1957 John married Margaret Louise Hurst. They divorced in 1967. They had lived in Toronto, Canada from 1957-1959, Chatsworth, Cal. from 1959-1962, Canosa Park, Cal. from 1962-1966.
He and Judith Kulack married in 1967 and divorced in 1994. They lived in Lewiston, Minn. from 1967-1993. He has lived in Altura since 1993.
He was the retired previous owner of Forward Machine, and past president of Forward Services, Inc.
Jack had restored the Wilkie in Winona, and fire towers in Elba, Minn. and Grand Rapids in the late 90s.
Jack was an adventurer and loved to travel the world and meet new people. He made lots of friends in various countries. As a friend said, "To know Mr. Jack is to love him." He liked to ride his Harley Davidson across the country and make new friends. Now he is on his last adventure to the stars. May he rest in Guatemala with the people he met and who cared for him, forever and ever.
Survivors include three sons, Victor, Carl and Brian Forward of California.
A gathering in remembrance of Jack was held Saturday, April 6, at the Lewiston American Legion.

Goetting, Carl P.

Carl P. Goetting, 76, died Thursday, April 4, 2002 at Sauer Memorial Home.
Arrangements are pending.

Buse, Anna M.

Anna M. Buse, 103, Winona, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2002 at Lake Winona Manor.
Anna was born to John and Julia (Rompa) Paszkiewicz in Winona on January 4, 1899. She spent her childhood and school years in Winona. Afterwards, she worked at the shoe factories in Winona and Stillwater, Minn., and in her later years she worked at the Winona Knitting Mills. Anna married Fred C. Buse at the St. Stanislaus Parish Rectory.
Anna was a fine homemaker and she loved gardening. Tending her flower garden and baking cakes and cookies for her family and friends were her favorite things to do.
Anna is survived by her son, Frederick J. Buse and his friend, Carol Hittner of Winona; granddaughter, Jennifer K. (Randy) Lindrud; great-grandson, Christopher Jon Lindrud; great-granddaughter, Rachel Ann Lindrud of North Oaks, Minn.; grandson, Christopher Paul and Beth (Hammer) Buse of Stillwater, Minn.; sister-in-law, Marjorie (Benedict) Paskiewicz; nieces and nephews: Bill Glowczewski, Geraldine Modjeski, Deborah (James) Halbakken, Greg Paskiewicz, and Charlotte (Ray) McElmury, all of Winona; Sheila (John) Champeau of Las Vegas, Nev.; Mark Bottimore of California; and Sedne (James) Murray of Grandview, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred, three brothers, John, Hubert and Benedict, three sisters, Frances (Earl) Berger, Genevieve (Herman) Glowczewski, and Mary (Al) Newman and also nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered in thanksgiving for her life on Saturday, April 6, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with Rev. Daniel R. Dernek officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to Lake Winona Manor, 865 Mankato Avenue, Winona, MN 55987.

McQuiston, Orville M.

Orville M. McQuiston, 53, of Eyota, MN., died Tuesday, March 19th as the result of an automobile accident near Eyota, MN. He was born in Sandstone, MN. on December 24, 1948 the son of Leo and Ida (Patch) McQuiston.
Orville was a custodian/ engineer for the Rochester, MN. Public Schools, currently working at the Folwell Elementary School. He also worked at the Elton Hills Elementary School. Prior to that he had worked at the Dover-Eyota, MN. School and also for Winona Senior High School. Before that he had been employed for 18 years by J.R. Watkins Products of Winona.
He lived in Winona for 26 years, moving to Eyota in 1998. On June 28, 1975 he married Susan Dyrdal at Thief River Falls, MN.
Orville attended Redeemer Lutheran Church, Winona, MN. He is a member of the International Brotherhood of Boiler Engineers. Orville enjoyed being with his family, grandchildren and friends; helping the young and the elderly and whoever needed a hand.
He also enjoyed working in his garden and traveling with his wife Susie.
Orville is survived by his wife, Susan of Eyota, MN.; son, Jeremy McQuiston and fiancee, Lori Luethi of Winona; daughters, Nissa McQuiston, Rochester, MN. and Tasha (Ali) Almatrok, Claremont, MN. His father, Leo, Barnum, MN. Three grandchildren, Skyler McQuiston, Yousef Almatrok and Sophia Rae McQuiston.
Thirteen brothers and sisters, Charles (Sue) of Duluth, MN., Raymond (Patty) of Hinckley, MN.; John (Lori) of Vadnais Heights, MN.; Robert (Toni) of St. Paul, MN.; Theresa Carlson, Roseville, MN.; Ralph ( Sharol) of Wadena, MN.; William (Carollee) of Williston, ND.; Joyce Flynn, Cloquet, MN.; Tina (Roger) Wilson, Willard, OH.; Toni (Rev. Ken) Johnson, Avon, SD.; Tammy (Joe) McCormick, Mantorville, MN.; Richie (Jessica) Dickson, Claremont, MN.; Terry (Pat) Klonecki, Homer, MN. Many loving nieces and nephews. Orville is also survived by his brother and sister in laws, Roger (Linda) Dyrdal of Colorado; Lloyd Dyrdal, Winona, MN.; and Terry (Shelly) Dyrdal, Thief River Falls, MN.
Orville was preceded in death by his mother, Ida; step mother, Phyllis; 2 brothers, Benjamin and Patrick and a sister, Charlotte; mother- and father-in-law, Helen and Nels Dyrdal.
Funeral services for Orville were on Saturday, March 23rd at 1:00P.M. at St. Martin's Ev. Lutheran Church, Rev. William Flesch officiating. Members of American Legion post #9, Winona, MN. conducted military burial rites at the church.
Casket bearers were Jeremy McQuiston, Tim Spalding, Harry Wetzel and Ali Almatrok, Keith Bugge and Bruce Armstrong.
Honorary bearers are Skyler McQuiston and Yousef Alatrok
A Memorial Is being arranged.

Kruse, Sharon L.

Sharon L. Kruse, formerly Sharon L. Parker, died Sunday, March 17, 2002 in Minneapolis, MN.
She was born September 24, 1941 in Winona.
Survived by daughters Krystal Kruse, Melody Kerns (John), and Nikki Boraas (Brian); grandchildren, Ashlee, Zachary, Holli, Miranda, and Joshua; brothers, Don, Scotty, John and Rick.

Ziemer, Hilda B.

Hilda B. Ziemer, 85, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.
Hilda was born October 13, 1916 in the Ridgeway area of Winona County, Minn., to Ludwig and Martha (Neuman) Peterson. On January 25, 1936 she married Albert H. Ziemer at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Lewiston, Minn. He died May 11, 1977.
Hilda and her husband Albert farmed in the Lewiston area. She also had worked for Home Produce in St. Charles, Minn. and Rush Products in Lewiston.
She was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. Hilda was very active in the Lewiston community, belonging to the Fremont Sunshine Club, American Legion Auxiliary in Lewiston, Old Settlers of Winona County, Senior Citizens in Lewiston and was a volunteer driver for Semcac. Hilda was named Volunteer of the Year for Winona County.
Her family will lovingly remember her for her good cooking, and the great pride she took in raising chickens for their eggs and meat.
Hilda is survived by one daughter, Arlene (Don) Strelow of Rochester, Minn.; two sons, Kenneth (Katherine) Ziemer of Rochester and Marlin (Gladys) Ziemer of St. James, Minn.; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a brother, Allen (Eloise) Peterson of Lewiston; and three sisters, Glennis (Alvin) Wondrow of Rochester, Mabel (Walter) Schneuor of Duluth, Minn., and Eunice Baer of Lewiston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Albert, three brothers, Leon, LaVern and Howard, and four sisters, Janette, Lyla, Martha and Dorothy.
Funeral services are planned for Monday, March 25 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church with Revs. David Fischer and Michael Lindemann officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call Sunday at Hoff Funeral Home's - Lewiston Chapel from 3-7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Hilda's seven grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Hoff Funeral Home - St. Charles Chapel is assisting with the arrangements.

Svenningson, Violet P.

Violet P. Svenningson, 90, of 165 East Fourth St., died Thursday, March 21, 2002 at Community Memorial Hospital.
She was born December 7, 1911 in Winona County, Minn. She married Clarence R. Svenningson, now deceased. They had two children.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 26, at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 26 from 10-11 am. at the church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

McQuiston, Orville M.

Orville M. McQuiston, 53, Eyota, Minn., died Tuesday, March 19, 2002 as the result of an automobile accident near Eyota.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 23, at St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Rev. William Flesch officiating.

Heinlen, James F.

James F. Heinlen, 77, of 426 West Sanborn Street, died at his home on Thursday, March 7, 2002.
He was born June 4, 1924 in Chicago, Ill., to Leo W. and Mary Margaret (Rogan) Heinlen. He married Nora M. O'Dea on April 10, 1944. She has died.
Jim attended St. Mary's College in Winona and received his Master's Degree in Social Administration from Loyola University. He also attended the Art Institute of Chicago, Northwestern University, the Catholic University of America and Cornell University. He spent 34 years of his working career in the Winona County court system. He also taught at Wabasha High School, Winona State University, Winona Art Center and at St. Mary's College, where he was the first instructor when the college began its art department. When he retired, Jim was able to get back to his first love -- art. He has been drawing, sketching and painting his way into Winona history for the past half century. Among his many achievements is the renovation of the Winona Art Center, the painterly documentation of Winona buildings and landmarks and his generous art donations to local non-profit organizations. He also was an avid fan of estate sales.
Jim was a trustee of Winona Art Center, a member of the Red Men's Club, Elks Lodge #327, Knights of Columbus Council #637, Veterans of Foreign Wars Neville-Lien Post #1287, YMCA, American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post #9 and the Winona County Historical Society. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Parish.
Jim served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his four children, James (Kathleen) Heinlen of St. Paul, Minn., Sean Heinlen of Rapid City, Iowa, Patricia (Jeff) Britt of Eagan, Minn., and David (Margaret) Heinlen of Winona; five grandchildren, Marieka, Sara, Hana, Ryan and Daniel; one great-granddaughter, Thea; one brother, William Heinlen of Chicago, Ill.; nieces and nephews of Chicago; and a special companion, Hattie Poss.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a brother, Jack.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, March 16, at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church with Rev. John M. Sauer officiating.
Friends may call Friday, March 15 from 4-8 p.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of the Mass at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. There will be a Christian
Wake Service Friday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery where the VFW will provide military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be sent in Jim's name to the school library of your choice, the Winona County Historical Society, Grace Place or Winona Art Center.
