Hegland, Elizabeth A.

Elizabeth A. Hegland, 62, of rural Peterson, died Monday, March 11, 2002, at her home. She was born on May 7, 1939, in LaCrosse, Wis. to Arvid and Selma (Humble) Kjos. Elizabeth grew up in the Peterson area and graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1957. She attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. and Iowa State University, in Ames, Iowa, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in dietetics in 1961. Elizabeth married Roger Hegland on September 1, 1962, at North Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro, She and Roger lived at the same farm in rural Peterson all of their married lives. Elizabeth was a member of the North Prairie Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ruth Circle and W.E.L.C.A. group. She was also a member of the Eastern Star in Rushford. Elizabeth enjoyed going to her sons' cattle shows and F.F.A. activities.
Her interests included flowers, sewing, traveling, and especially spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Roger; her father, Arvid Kjos of Peterson; three sons: Brian (Renee) Hegland of Bakersfield, Cal., Darin (Nancy) Hegland of Northfield, Minn., and Martin (Shari) Hegland of Algona, Iowa, and one granddaughter, Bradee. Her mother and two grandchildren, Daniel and Katherine, preceded Elizabeth in death.
The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 15, at the North Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro with the Rev. Karen Grandall officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Hoff Funeral Homes ­ Rushford Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Following the funeral service, Elizabeth's body will cremated. Burial of her cremated body will be in the church cemetery on a later date.

Weimer, Sarah

Sarah "Sally" Weimer, age 79, of Winona, died on Friday, March 8, 2002 at her home.
Sally was born on October 1, 1922 in Bay City, Michigan to Frederick and Teresa (McCalley) Weber. She attended Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, Michigan. On August 14, 1948, she married Henry C. Weimer, in Bay City, Michigan.
She was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Winona. She enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, and going out on the river.
She is survived by her husband Henry of Winona; two sons, Kent (Stacey) Weimer of Glenview, IL and Mark (Pamela) Weimer of Groton, CT; one granddaughter Margaret Weimer.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Memorial service will be Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at 1:00 PM at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, with Rev.
Timothy Dost, officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.
Funeral arrangements are being completed by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

Ask, Carl H. Sr.

Carl H. Ask Sr., 86, a lifelong resident and farmer of the Houston area, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at the Franciscan - Skemp Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wis. Carl was born at home in Corey Valley to Haakron and Karen (Hansen) Ask on September 14, 1915. He grew up in Cambell Valley where he attended the Cooper School. He helped with farm chores and field work at an early age and left home at age 13 to work as a farm hand. At the encouragement of his employer, he attended Houston High School and graduated in 1935. He lived with the Curt Anderson family in Swede Bottom his senior year where he worked for his room and board.
The following year he and his brother Roy were asked to farm the E. O. Benson farm. Carl continued there until he bought a farm in Campbell Valley in 1948. In 1976, he bought the Benson farm in Swede Bottom and moved there in 1977. Carl married Ellinore Busness on June 7, 1945, in LaCrosse, Wis. He was a member of the Houston Baptist Church. Carl loved his church and served there in many ways as Vice Chairman, Deacon, Trustee, and Sunday school teacher through the years and touched many lives. He was a charter member of the Houston-Winona Gideon Camp. He was a member of and clerk for the Money Creek School Board for 15 years. Carl was an insurance agent for many years for Waseca and Rollingstone Mutual Insurance Companies. He also was a 4-H member and leader, actively involved in Farm Bureau and also a member of the Midland board. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters: Hardy Napstad, Florence Votruba, and Evelyn Millen. He is survived by his wife, Ellinore; four children: Karen (Gary) Robertson of Monmouth, Ill, Karla (Dallas) Nelson, Carl (Bonnie) Ask Jr., both of Houston, Minn., and Candace Gittens of Hokah, Minn.; three brothers: Roy (Persis) Ask of Houston, Minn., Walter (Betty) Ask of St. Charles, Minn., and Lyle Ask of Rochester; six sisters: Alma Eberhard of Houston, Minn., Hazel (Harry) McElmury of Lakeville, Minn., Velma (Dan) Degallier of Winona, Minn., Esther Feine of Cortez, Colorado, Carol (Loren) Kilstofte of Pueblo, Colorado, and Anita (Craig) Currier of Pittsburgh, Kansas. He will be sorely missed by his 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His life exemplified the fruit of the spirit. Carl's funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, at the Houston Baptist Church in Houston, with the Rev. Donald Range officiating. Burial will be in the Swede Bottom Cemetery in rural Houston. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, at Hoff Funeral Homes Houston Chapel, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.

Britson, Emma J.

Emma J. Britson, 102, of Houston, died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston.
Emma was born March 1, 1900, in Houston, Minnesota to Albert and Christina (Traff) Britson. She attended Looney Valley Country School District #5 and was a very active, lifetime member of the Looney Valley Lutheran Church. She worked as a housekeeper in the Winona, La Crosse and Houston areas, and also was a cook for the Valley View Nursing Home in Houston. Her hobbies included doing handwork. She was known to always be there to help her family whenever there was a need. Emma is survived by one brother Melvin (Lizzie) Britson of Houston, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, at the Looney Valley Lutheran Church in rural Houston with the Rev. Kris Fahey officiating. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery in rural Houston. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the Looney Valley Lutheran Church.

Ehmann, Audrey M.

Audrey M. Ehmann, age 91, of Winona, died on Friday, March 8, 2002 at Lake Winona Manor.
Audrey Mildred was born on September 4, 1910 in LaCrosse, WI. She was adopted by Wilfred "Fred" W. and Alma (Jeska) Silloway. She graduated from Winona High School. On June 15, 1931, she married Donald F. Ehmann in Winona. He preceded her in death on August 22, 1985.
She was a life-long resident of the Winona and LaCrosse area and was a member of McKinley United Methodist Church, Winona.
She is survived by seven children: Elaine (Andrew) Olson of Trempealeau, WI, Susan (Lyman) Roberts of Ponsford, MN, Jean Kuisle of Oronoco, MN, Don Ehmann of St. Charles, MN, Lore (Bernard) Maas of Winona, Audrey Marti of Mesa, AZ, and Jon Ehmann of Mesa, AZ; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 26 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter in infancy, one grandson Scott Kuisle and a son-in-law Kenneth Meinke.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at 1:00 PM at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona, with Rev. Shirley Duncanson, Pastor of McKinley United Methodist Church, Winona, officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 12 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Doering, Duane C. "Dewey"

Duane C. "Dewey" Doering, 72, of Caledonia, Minn., died Friday, March 8, 2002 at Hillview Health Care Center, LaCrosse, Wis.
Funeral services were Sunday, March 10, at Immaculate Lutheran Church in Caledonia with Rev. Rolf T. Storlie officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Fedders, Jean M.

Jean M. Fedders, 84, formerly of Winona, died Thursday, March 7, 2002 at Camillia Rose Nursing Home in Coon Rapids, Minn.
She was born June 15, 1917 in St. John's Newfoundland, Canada to Frederick J. and Elsie (Alexander) King.
She married John G. Fedders on July 7, 1942 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Winona. He died October 28, 1992.
After graduating from college, she worked as an x-ray technician.
She is survived by her three daughters, Margie (Clarence) Lewis of St. Paul, Minn., Jeanne (Bill) Thomazin of St. Paul, and Barbara (Doug) Sherlock of Coon Rapids, Minn.; eight grandchildren; two great-granddaughters, three great-grandsons; a sister, Ann King; a brother, George King; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Fedders.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday, March 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Winona. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Pallbearers were Doug Sherlock, Clarence Lewis, Keith Lewis, Kevin Lewis, George King and Bill Thomazin.
Memorials may be directed to the Hospice of the Twin Cities, 7100 Northland Circle, #205, Minneapolis, Minn. 55428.

Squires, Robert H. "Bob"

Robert H. "Bob" Squires, 72, of 479 West Sarnia St., passed away Friday, March 8, 2002 at his home.
Bob was born on June 27, 1929 in Winona, to Albert and Leona Berndt Squires. He attended Jefferson School and Winona Senior High School. He married Ruth M. Drexel on October 24, 1949 in Winona.
Bob was employed by the City of Winona as a firefighter for 38 years and thoroughly enjoyed his occupation.
At various times Bob belonged to different sportmen's organizations including Ducks Unlimited and the

Winona Rod and Gun Club.

He was a member of St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Duane, and a sister, Shirley.
Bob is survived by his wife, Ruth; a son, Stephen; and daughters, Linda (Garry) Grover and Susan Squires, all of Winona; two grandsons, whom Bob enjoyed spending as much time with as possible, Michael Kronebusch of Winona and Craig Squires of Minnetonka, Minn.; and a sister, Marlene Moeberg of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 12 at Martin-Myhre Funeral Chapel. Entombment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Casketbearers were Dave Ritter, John Rybarczyk, Mike Kronebusch, Craig Squires, Richard Hopkins and Garry Grover.
Martin-Myhre Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Ehmann, Audrey M.

Audrey M. Ehmann, 91, of Winona, died Friday, March 8, 2002 at Lake Winona Manor.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 13 at 1 p.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home with Rev. Shirley Duncanson of McKinley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Hart, Violet E.

Violet E. Hart, 82, died Saturday, March 9, 2002 at the Whitewater Health Care Center in St. Charles, Minn.
Violet was born January 6, 1920 in Fremont Township to Guy and Henrietta (Simon) Conway. She married Dale Raddatz and they were later divorced. On October 16, 1943 Violet married Robert Hart in St. Charles, Minn. Together they farmed in Dover until Robert died on March 10, 1984
Violet also worked at the Green Parrot and Woolworth's in Rochester, Minn.
She was a member of the Dover United Methodist Church and its Ladies Aid. She was also president of the Senior Citizens in Dover and was a trustee with the Evergreen Cemetery Association. Violet will be remembered for her love of crocheting, cooking and playing cards.
Survivors include a son, James (Angie) Hart of Dover; six daughters, Kay Tvedt of Stewartville, Minn., Shirley (Don) Karau of Wabasha, Minn., Margaret (LaVern) Dankers of Goodhue, Minn., Marion (Paul) Evenson of St. Charles, Minn., Delores Hart of Rochester, Minn., and Vivian (Dave) Barrone of St. Charles; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bernice (Larry) Hansen of St. Charles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert, a son, Harley Raddatz, a brother, Kenneth Conway; and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Gerber.
Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, March 13, at 2 p.m. at the Dover United Methodist Church with Rev. Sharon Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Dover. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Hoff Funeral Home's - St. Charles Chapel is assisting with the arrangements.
