Gilhooly, Gilbert Lawrence

Gilbert Lawrence Gilhooly, 81, of New Hope, Minn., and formerly of Winona, died suddenly Wednesday, November 22, 2000, while visiting friends in Rogers, Arkansas.

Gilbert Lawrence Gilhooly was born in Jersey City, NJ, on November 7, 1919, the son of Mary Bernadine (Conroy) and Lawrence Joseph Gilhooly. He married Margaret Bergman on November 12, 1944 in Bayonne, NJ.

He was a graduate in Journalism from the University of Notre Dame. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was involved in the Normandy Beach Invasion, where he was injured.

He worked for many years at St. Mary's University in Winona as the director for both the Food Service and Student Union.

He will be greatly missed by his sons, Brian and G. Lawrence Jr.; his daughter, Mary Beth and her husband, Russell Belk, and their children, Joseph, Aurora, Elinor and Molly. He is also survived by his sister, Althea Thomas of New Jersey. He will be missed by his dear friend, Kaye Fuller and many others who enjoyed his sense of humor and love of conversation.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elinor, and son, Dennis.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, November 28 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Winona with Rev. Joseph L. Keefe celebrant. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona.

The family requests memorials in Gil's name to St. Mary's University, Winona.

Gil's sense of humor, political insights and love will be missed by his family and friends.

Kinowski, Kenneth H. "Jerry"

Kenneth H. "Jerry" Kinowski, born on March 24, 1926 in Winona to Edward and Lillian Gromoski Kinowski, passed away in Henderson, NV, on November 22, 2000.

He graduated from high school and joined the U.S. Navy in 1944, serving for three years. He served on the destroyer USS John Rogers as a Signalman 2nd Class. In 1948 he married Sandra McDonald, they later were divorced. He worked as a millwright at Swift & Co. for 19 years and 6 months. He spent the next three years working in the Winona area doing cement finishing and carpentry work before moving to Milwaukee to work as a millwright for 20 years and retired from Briggs & Stratton.

He married Dorothy Norton Christensen on July 31, 1971. After retiring, they moved to Las Vegas, NV, then later to Henderson, NV.

Jerry loved his family above all and had many, many friends. He loved fishing, anywhere... bowling, golfing, and fixing things. He had a great gift for woodworking projects and loved to share them with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Henderson; a daughter, Kathy (Bill) Teskey of Winona; two sons, Ken Jr. of Minnetonka, Minn. and Mark of North Palm Beach, Fla.; a step-daughter, Jackie (Kevin) Walsh; six step-sons, Jim (Brenda), Mark (Dawn), Larry (Tammy), Tony and Eddie Christiansen of Winona and Dr. William Christiansen of Henderson, NV; nine grandchildren, Laurie Laska of Winona, Paul (Dyan) Laska of Fountain City, Wis., Chris (Jeff) Anderson of Coon Rapids, Minn., Tad Kinowski of Minneapolis, Minn., Nicole Kinowski of Chaska, Minn., John and James Walsh of Mesquite, NV, Riley Christiansen of Winona, and Joe Christiansen of New York, NY; five great-grandchildren, John Laska of Winona, Shaina and Marissa Laska of Fountain City, Wis., and Amanda and Sara Anderson of Coon Rapids, Minn.; three brothers, George of West Bend, Wis., Edward (Karen) of Appleton, Wis., and Tom of Menomonie Falls, Wis.; three sisters, Marion (Bob) Gerson of Winona, Terese Cooper of Surprise, Ariz., and Margaret (George) Barnes of Menomonie Falls, Wis.; brothers-in-law, Donald and Jim (Marcella) Norton of Winona; and sister-in-law, Theresa Kotlartz of Arcadia, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Wallace and David, and a brother-in-law, Jack Norton.

Private memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 29, arranged by Palm Mortuary in Henderson.

Clark, Frieda Emma

Frieda Emma Clark, 94, Eyota, Minn., died Monday, November 27, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

She was born on January 12, 1906 in Rochester to Otto and Augusta (Grams) Riess. Frieda married Fred W. Clark on August 26, 1926 in Rochester. They farmed in Dover Township of Olmsted County. Fred died March 21, 1973. In 1981 she moved to Eyota.

Frieda was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Eyota and its Women's Guild. She was also active in the Eyota Senior Citizens Group.

Frieda is survived by a son, George (Esther) Clark of Dover; three grandchildren, Ron and Rick Clark, and Robin (Bill) Harps; eight great-grandchildren, Amanda, Chad, Eric (Lori), Doron, Tyrel and Logan Clark, Rebecca and Ross Harps; one step-great-grandchild, Billy Harps; one great-great-granddaughter, Alexandria Clark; and a sister, Adeline "Lena" Cutshall of Rochester.

She was preceded in death by a son, Clayton, two grandsons, Ross F. and Randy G., one great-granddaughter, Rachel, five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 30, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Eyota with Rev. Lyle Kath officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Home's - St. Charles Chapel, and one hour before services at the church.

Memorials are preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Prussing, Harriet Rose

Harriet Rose Prussing, 79, passed away Monday, November 27, 2000 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, Wis.

Harriet was born December 11, 1920 in Fountain City, Wis., to Hattie (Schaffner) and Alex Prussing. She was baptized and confirmed in St. John's United Church of Christ and graduated from high school in 1938, both in Fountain City. In 1942 she received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from LaCrosse State College and in 1947 a Master of Science degree from Syracuse University. Later she did graduate work at Michigan State University, University of Minnesota, Occidental College, Stanford University and the University of Santa Clara in California.

Harriet worked for the public school systems of Woodville, Fountain City and Algoma, Wis., Montpelier, VT., New Castle and Del Lorain, OH, and Crosby and Hopkins, Minn. She also worked for one year at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Most of her work was as a high school counselor, but she also taught English. She served in the service during World War II in the Women's Army Corps. She retired in June 1978 and made her home in Fountain City ever since.

She was active in Eastern Star and was a Past Worthy Matron. She also held office in the Women's Guild of St. John's UCC and was an organist. She belonged to the Women's Bowling League and was an avid sportsperson.

Harriet is survived by a brother, Charles (Virginia) Prussing; a nephew, Steven (Susan) Prussing; a niece, Susan (Richard) Stirn; great-nieces and nephews, Micah and Aaron Prussing, Kyle and Krista Stirn; and many relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 30 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Fountain City, Rev. Fritz West officiating. Interment will be in Fountain City Public Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6:00-8:30 p.m. Wednesday and after 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to St. Johns United Church of Christ in Fountain City, Wis.

Guile, Beverly Elaine

Beverly Elaine Guile, 80, of 825 West Fifth St., died Saturday, November 25, 2000 at the C&R Unit of Community Memorial Hospital.

Beverly was born December 17, 1919 in Winona, to Clara Mathilda (Hammer) and Clark Crawford Guile.

She was a clerical worker for the Federal Bureau of Investigation beginning in February of 1943 and retiring in April of 1975.

No services are planned.

Harger, Kenneth

A memorial service for Bowling Green civic and business leader Kenneth Harding Harger was held at First United Methodist Church.

A resident of Larchwood Drive, he died Friday, November 3, 2000 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toldeo, at the age of 80.

The Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce had selected him as the city's Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 1995.

Mr. Harger joined his father in his insurance agency in 1946. Later this agency became Huber, Harger, Welt and Smith Insurance Agency. In 1950, he received his CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) designation, and was among the relatively small number having earned this professional recognition.

Mr. Harger served as president of the Ohio Association of Insurance Agents in 1960. Nine years later, the association awarded him the Paul Revere Award, the most prestigious award given for service to the American Agency System.

Mr. Harger served on the board of directors of the Bowling Green Banking Co., which later became Mid American National Bank and Trust Co., for 37 years.

Mr. Harger was a member of the Town and Gown Club, a discussion group, for more than 30 years.

A 1941 graduate of Bowling Green State University, Mr. Harger was a veteran of both the 8th and 9th Air Forces in Europe, serving from 1942-1945. He met his wife, Fern Baertsch (a member of the Women's Army Corps) in England, and they were married in Raims, France in March 1945.

Mr. Harger was a member of the church and had served in numerous lay capacities.

He served on the Wood County Public Library Board for eight years. The present library site was purchased during his tenure on the board.

He was a charter and life member of Bowling Green Exchange Club, a member of local Masonic Orders and Zenobia Shrine, life member and past exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge No 818, and member of the American Legion, 40 & 8 and VFW.

He also served on the BGSU Alumni Board in the 1960s and on the Bowling Green Board of Public Affairs and the city's zoning board in its early years.

He was born to A. Earl and Louella (Croninger) Harger in Wauseon on June 9, 1920. The family moved to Bowling Green in 1926.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Alan of Shelton, Wash.; three daughters, Jane Raetzman of The Dalles, Ore., Catherine Harger of Seattle, and Elizabeth Johnston, also of Shelton; a sister, Adelaide Amos of Fremont; and one grandchild.

One brother, Howard, preceded him in death.

Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Dunn Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Methodist Church, American Cancer Society, or Slippery Elm Trail, 218 E. Broadway, North Baltimore, OH 45872.
