Stanton, Robert L.

Robert L. Stanton, 71, of LaCrescent, Minn., died Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at his home.

Funeral services were Friday, March 30, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in LaCrescent with Rev. Paul A. Ibisch officiating. Burial was in Pickwick Cemetery, Pickwick, Minn.

Acheff, Bertha A.

Bertha A. Acheff, 98, of 316 East Broadway, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at the C&R Unit of Community Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements are pending with Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home.

Ellings, Stella

Stella Ellings, 91, died peacefully Wednesday, March 28, 2001. She was born March 3, 1910 in Blair, Wis. to Julia and Albert Peterson.

After graduating from Blair High School, Stella attended Winona Business College and then worked as a secretary. On June 30, 1934 she married R.K. "Rudy" Ellings.

Stella was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Bible Study and Circle, Westfield, the Pocahontas, Beta Sigma Phi, bridge clubs, the Winona Bowling Association, and was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star #141. She loved reading, knitting and playing cards. But more than anything, as a homemaker, "Nana" loved being an integral part of her children and grandchildren's lives.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert "Skip" and Carol Ellings of Homer, Minn.; daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Jim Martin of Cochrane, Wis., and Jane and Scott Biesanz of Winona; grandchildren, Trisha and Mike Johnson, Brad Ellings, Michele and Troy Lietha, Dr. Kristine Martin, Brian Martin and fiancee Becky Andres, Jill, Jenny and Nick Biesanz; great-grandson, Dillon Lietha; great-granddaughter, Emily Johnson; sister, Pearl (Jim) Pederson; and brother, Arnold (Shirley) Peterson.

She was preceded in death by her husband "Rudy, " who died October 21, 2000. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Friends may call Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home with an Order of Eastern Star service at 5 p.m. Monday there will be a visitation at Central Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. and a service at 11 a.m. Interment will in Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society, 418 Hiawatha St., Winona or the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2025 East River Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55414.

Larson, Wilmer L.

Wilmer L. Larson, 76, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001 following a lengthy battle with cancer at Winona Community Memorial Hospital.

Wilmer Lomoin Larson was born February 3, 1925 in Mondovi, Wis. to Raymond and Myrtle (Dahl) Larson. Wilmer served in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II and served on the USS Norfolk. Wilmer married Barbara Burbank and was later divorced. He then married Beverly A. Kulasevig on January 15, 1955 in Chicago, Ill.

Wilmer was a long time resident of Winona where he owned and operated Wilmer Larson Construction Inc. Wilmer is known for contracting and building as well as renovating hundreds of homes in Winona and Goodview.

Wilmer is remembered for his love for fishing, camping, and RV'ing, being an avid sports fan, especially following the Vikings, and he loved wintering with his wife in Key West, Florida. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Winona.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly A. Larson; two sons, Scott Larson of the Florida Keys and Steve Larson of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Susan Larson of Denver; a step-daughter, Patricia Ann Hanson of Red Wing, Minn.; a step-son, Michael Weinmann of Seattle, Wash.; several grandchildren; and two brothers, Wyliss (Marilyn) Larson and Wesley (Palma) Larson, both of Winona.

Funeral services are planned for Monday, April 2, at 2 p.m. at Hoff Funeral Homes -Burke Winona Chapel with Rev. William Flesch officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Friends may call at Hoff Funeral Homes - Burke Winona Chapel on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.

The family suggests that memorials be directed to cancer research.

Busian, Grace Edna

Grace Edna Busian, 89, of Good Shepherd Home in Rushford, Minn., died Thursday, March 29, 2001 at Winona Community Memorial Hospital.

Grace was born December 21, 1911 in Saratoga Township of Winona County to Frank and Harterowe (Cox) Gerry. She graduated from Winona State Teachers College and taught country school for seven years. Grace and Elwin Busian were married September 15, 1938. They farmed south of St. Charles before moving to town in 1958 to own and operate the St. Charles Greenhouse until their retirement. They lived in Winona for several years. Elwin died in 1996. She has lived at the Good Shepherd Home for the past three years.

Grace belonged to the St. Charles United Church of Christ where she was organist. She was active in the Sunshine Chapter #98 Order of the Eastern Star in St. Charles and was organist for them.

Grace and Elwin traveled extensively to Hawaii and to Europe. They were well known for their annual 'Busian Breakfast' in their home, a tradition still continued at their church.

A sister, Ellen Ann Coulson of St. Charles, and nine nieces and nephews survive.

In addition to her husband, a brother Reuben Gerry preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Charles United Church of Christ with Rev. Paul Wissink officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Saratoga Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Hoff Funeral Home's - St. Charles Chapel. They may also call one hour before services at the church. There will be an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Hoff Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Meisch, Phil J.

Phil J. Meisch, 41, of rural Altura died Wednesday March 28, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester as a result of injuries received in a farm accident.

Phil was born October 12, 1959 in Winona to Nick and Darlene (Breitbarth) Meisch. He graduated from Lewiston-Altura High School in 1978 and from Winona Vo-Tech with a degree in Farm Operations and Management.

Phil and Linda Wald were married in Alma, WI on May 23, 1981. They have farmed on the Meisch family farm since.

Phil loved to hunt and fish. His great joy was spending time with his kids.

He belonged to Jehovah Ev. Lutheran Church in Altura and to the North American Hunting Club.

Survivors include his wife Linda, three children, Christopher; Nichole; and Jessica all at home, his parents Nick and Darlene Meisch of Altura, a brother Rick of Altura, and a sister Terri (Bob) Ketchum of Utica.

Funeral Services will be 11 AM Saturday at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Lewiston with the Revs. Michael Lindemann and David Fischer officiating. Burial will occur at a later date in Jehovah Ev. Cemetery in Altura.

Friends may call at St. John's Church from 4-8 PM Friday and one hour before services Saturday.

Loken, Lucille A.

Lucille A. Loken, 82, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, Rushford, Minn.

Lucille A. Pederson was born April 21, 1918 in Amherst Township, Fillmore County, Minn., to Oscar and Hilda (Flattum) Pederson. On October 19, 1938 she married George Oliver Loken in Lanesboro, Minn. Together they farmed in Houston, Hokah, Caledonia, and bought a farm south of Rushford.

Lucille was an active member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, Ladies Aid and the ALCW.

Survivors include her husband, G. Oliver Loken; five sons, Larry (Mary Ann Moham) of Rushford, Roy (Dixie) of Rollingstone, Minn., Dennis (Cindy) of Mankato, Minn., Robert (Sue) of Dakota and Jeffrey (Freida) of Stewartville, Minn.; sixteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Deloris (Harold) Blagsvedt of Spring Grove, Minn.; and two brothers, Dale (Beverly) Pederson and Carroll (Gladys) Pederson, both of LaCrosse, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were Friday, March 16, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church with Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial was in Stone Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Michael, Christopher, Jason, Nicholas, Perry, Anthony, Thomas, Zachary and Joseph Loken.

Memorials may be directed to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home or Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.

Staublin, Wesley A.

Wesley A. Staublin, 82, Fountain City, Wis., died Wednesday, March 14, 2001 in Fountain City.

He was born May 3, 1918 in Fountain City to Wesley A. and Pauline (Henthorne) Staublin. He married Romalda M. Bambenek on June 2, 1945 in Sacred Heart Church, Pine Creek, Wis.

He farmed in the Fountain City area until 1970 and then went to work at RTP for many years, until his retirement.

He was a member of the Dodge Sportsman's Club and a 50 year member of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and his hobbies included gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Romalda Staublin of Fountain City; a daughter, Cynthia (Robert) Wener of Dillingham, Alaska; a grandchild, Brett Wener of Fairbanks, Alaska; a sister, Jane Nowlan of Winona; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday, March 17 at Sacred Heart Church in Pine Creek with Rev. Robert Polcyn officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or American Lung Association.
