Boentges, Dolores E. "Dolly"

Dolores E. "Dolly" Boentges, 71, Wabasha, Minn. and formerly of Winona and Austin, died Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at Richfield Health Center in Richfield.

Funeral services were Saturday, February 17, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Dennis Valleau officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery in Wabasha.

Harmon, Carl M.

Carl M. Harmon, 87, of St. Charles, Minn., died Thursday, February 15, 2001 at Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles.

Carl was born September 22, 1913 in Winona County to Martin and Alma (Alinder) Harmon.

He lived with his folks in the "Marnach House" and farmed in Whitewater Valley until floods overcame the valley. He later farmed south of Utica until retiring and moving to St. Charles in 1975. He entered Whitewater Healthcare Center in the fall of 2000.

Carl's hobby was constructing steam engines. He made one a year since moving in to St. Charles.

Many nieces, nephews and cousins survive Carl.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, February 19, at Hoff Funeral Home's - St. Charles Chapel with Rev. Jeff Forbes of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. Cremation will follow with burial in Hillside Cemetery, St. Charles. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday and noon until time of service Monday.

Krom, Lillian F.

Lillian F. Krom was born January 27, 1919 to Edmund and Minnie Lenz in Chicago, Ill., and died February 14, 2001 in Hastings, Minn. at age 82.

Lillian had one brother, Arthur Lenz (Sue); and one sister, Ann Bear (Robert).

Lillian married Walter Wohletz in 1938 and operated the family farm near Nekoma, ND. They had one son, Frank Wohletz, who resides in Winona. After Walter's death in 1948, Lillian married Joseph Krom in 1950 and they had one daughter, Rebecca Verwey, who resides in Hastings, Minn. Joseph died in a farm accident in 1970.

Lillian lived in Langdon, ND until September of 1999 when she was hospitalized and required nursing care both at Winona and Hastings, where her children reside.

Lillian is survived by her son, Frank Wohletz (Diane); three grandsons, Frank Wohletz Jr. (Mary Claire), Gregory Wohletz (Katie) and Paul Wohletz (Lori); two great-grandchildren, Louis Wohletz and Katherine Wohletz; her daughter, Rebecca Verwey; and her sister, Ann Bear.

Lillian had many talents, interests and hobbies. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed crocheting, sewing, making patch quilts, ceramics, crafts, bowling, and enjoyed country western music, playing bingo and cards and loved Minnesota Twins baseball. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Monday, February 19 at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon and one hour before the time of services at the church on Tuesday. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Monday evening at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Langdon.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 20, at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Langdon. Burial will be in St. Edward's Cemetery in Nekoma, ND.

Dvorak, Helen M.

Helen M. Dvorak, 87, of Rushford, died Thursday, February 15, 2001, at the Bremmer Suites of Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. She was born on May 1, 1913, in Mason City, Iowa to John and Johanna (Ryan) Tracy. She moved with her family as a small child to the Rushford area. Helen Graduated from Rushford High School in 1938. She married Edward Dvorak on October 5, 1938, in Rushford. Helen and Edward then moved to the Dvorak family farm East of Rushford, which they farmed until moving to Rushford in 1990. Helen moved into the Bremmer Suites one year ago. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rushford, and the Altar Society. Helen is survived by her husband Edward; one son, Paul (Luanne) Dvorak of Rushford; one daughter, Rose Marie (Harvey) Anderson of Woodbury, Minn.; six grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, Teresa, Tim, Brian, and Chris; and one great-grandson, Samuel. She was preceded in death by her sister Frances and her brother Gerald. There will be a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2001, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rushford with the Rev. William Kulas officiating. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, also at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and one hour prior to the Funeral Mass on Saturday. There will be a Rosary at 8:00 p.m. on Friday St. Joseph's. Hoff Funeral Homes ­ Cook Rushford Chapel is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Bain, John J.

John J. Bain, 86, of rural Utica, MN, died Thursday, March 30, 2000 at the Lewiston Villa, Lewiston, MN.

John was born March 15, 1914 in Winona to Robert J. and Jean (Ferrier) Bain. He married Gladys Olson on September 14, 1935 in Fremont.

They farmed near Fremont their entire married lives. John also worked as a janitor and bus driver for Lewiston-Altura Public Schools.

He was a member of the Lewiston Presbyterian Church, served as Treasurer of Fremont Scotch Cemetery for many years, and was involved in 4-H as a leader. John and Gladys enjoyed the Winona County Fair, were avid fans of stock car racing and loved to work with horses.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys; three sons, Robert (Sue) Bain of Lewiston, Dale (Judy) Bain of Bloomington, IL, and Neil (Vicki) Bain of West Salem, WI; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Nelson and a sister, Mary Babcock.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 3 at Lewiston Presbyterian Church with Rev. Richard Jones officiating. Burial will be in Fremont Scotch Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Hoff Funeral Home's -- Lewiston Chapel. They may also call one hour before services Monday at the church.

Frey, Florence L.

Florence L. Frey, 85, died Friday, March 31, 2000 at Sauer Memorial Home where she had been a resident since October of 1996.

Florence was born October 26, 1914 in Winona County, to Albert and Emma (Stender) Gast.She graduated from Winona Senior High School, and married Wilbur Frey on April 27, 1935 in Winona. He preceded her in death on August 17, 1996.

She moved to Colorado in 1946, where she resided for fifty years, before coming back to Winona in 1996.

She worked for Montgomery Wards. She retired from Colorado State University in 1977 after 24 years as a secretary in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics.

Florence lived in Fort Collins, CO. for 50 years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and its Women's Auxiliary. She was presently a member of St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Winona.

She is survived by a brother-in-law, Donald Frick of St. Charles; nieces, Donna Frick and Naomi Berland; a step-sister, Muriel Bell of Marshfield, WI; and a step-brother, Wayne Hanson of Racine, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert Gast, and a sister, Ruth Frick.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 3, at 1 p.m. at Martin-Myhre Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ronald Dommer officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Vondrasek, Pauline G.

Pauline G. Vondrasek, 84, of 716 East Fourth St., died Monday, March 27, 2000 in the Emergency Room of Community Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 20, 1915 in Winona, to Chauncey and Minnie (Slagowski) Kline. She married James T. "Butch" Vondrasek on November 29, 1941 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. He died October 6, 1988.

Pauline was a homemaker who loved to cross-stitch and do needlework. Her children and grandchildren were the love of her life. She will be sadly missed.

She is survived by two sons, James C. (Joan) of Winona and Richard M. (Janet) of Trempealeau, WI; two daughters, Marilyn (Ray) Burt of Trempealeau and Sandra (Thomas) Burt of Winona; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, William, and a brother, Sylvester.

Pauline was a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Parish, at which a memorial Mass was offered Thursday, March 30 with Rev. Robert G. Meyer officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Helleland, Milton S.

Milton S. Helleland, 75, Trempealeau, WI, died Monday, March 27, 2000 at Grandview Care Center, Blair, WI.

Funeral services were Friday, March 31 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Jerry Hanson officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Centerville, WI.

Hesby, Roy A.

Roy A. Hesby, 84, Rochester, MN, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000 at Samaritan Bethany in Rochester.

He was born December 9, 1915 on the family farm south of Utica to Andreas and Tomine (Mjolsnes) Hesby.

Roy graduated from St. Charles High School in 1933. He then operated the family farm with his brother. During World War II, 1941-1945, he served in the army. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge near the German border in mid-December 1944.

Roy served as Saratoga Township Clerk for 20 years. He was a lifelong member of North Prairie Lutheran Church, where he served various offices. He retired from farming in 1976 and moved to Rochester.

He is survived by a sister-in-law, Marguerite (Mrs. Thomas) Hesby of Stewartville; two nephews, James (Janice) Hesby of Concord, CA and Richard (Beverly) Hesby of Ankeny, IA; three sisters, Sister Charlotte Hesby of Janesville, Marcia (Brian) Goodmanson of Stewartville, and Colleen (David) McManus of Sacramento, CA; five great-nephews; and five great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Thomas and Alvin, and two sisters, Anna and Martha.

Funeral services were Thursday, March 30 at North Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro, MN, with Rev. Lynn Zaffke officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.

Utecht, June Marilyn

June Marilyn Utecht, 75, of 68 Links Lane, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000 at the C&R Unit of Winona Community Memorial Hospital.

June was born June 13, 1924, in Minneapolis to Julius Albert and Ida Marie (Johnson) Alsager. She married Frank Utecht on August 16, 1947 at Minnehaha Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, MN.

June was employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C. during World War II. She returned to Minneapolis and served as an accountant for WCCO radio until 1955. In 1967 they moved to Winona.

She belonged to the Winona Country Club, served as an area election judge for many years, and was a volunteer for CMH Auxiliary and the Winona Goodfellows. She was considered an "expert" seamstress and enjoyed playing bridge and golf.

June is survived by her husband, Frank; one son, Frank (Cheryl) Utecht Jr. of Winona; one daughter, Peggy Utecht of Houston, TX; and two grandchildren, Bethany and Corey Utecht.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were Saturday, April 1 at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, with Rev. Wade E. Davick of Central Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Monday, April 3.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Anderson, Richard Horst, Richard Adank, Charles Linden, Robert Sawdy, Robert Griesel, Earl Welshons and Robert Kosidowski.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
