Holland, Joshua D.

Joshua David Holland, 24, of Ellendale, Minn., died Friday, January 19, 2001.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 24 at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Ellendale, with Pastor Gary Rusinko officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Rushford, Minn.

Bautch, Sally Ann

Sally Ann (Dorava) Bautch, 67, Whitehall, Wis., passed away Friday, January 19, 2001 at Tri-County Hospital.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 27, at St. John's Catholic Church in Whitehall.

Bain, Gladys A.

Gladys A. Bain, 87, of rural Utica, Minn. died Monday, January 22, 2001 at her home.

Gladys was born December 3, 1913 in Fremont Township of Winona County to Edward and Edith (Sweningson) Olson. She and John J. Bain were married on September 3, 1935 in Fremont. He died March 30, 2000.

She and her husband farmed near Fremont their entire married lives. Gladys was a homemaker. She also worked at Fremont School as a cook, and for Rush Products of Lewiston, Minn.

She was a member of the Lewiston Presbyterian Church, Fremont Circle, Fremont Birthday Club, the Clyde Royal Neighbors, and she had been a 4-H leader.

John and Gladys enjoyed the Winona County Fair and were avid stock racing fans.

Survivors include three sons, Robert (Sue) Bain of Lewiston, Dale (Judy) Bain of LaCrosse, WI., and Neil (Vickie) Bain of West Salem, Wis.; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim (Helen) Olson and Robert (Audrey) Olson, both of Lewiston; and two sisters, Margaret Baer of St. Charles, Minn. and Dorothy Edwards of Utica.

In addition to her husband, a daughter, Elaine Nelson and a sister, Helen Baer preceded her in death.

Grace's family would like to thank her friend and long-term care provider Paula Lange for her assistance.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 25 at Lewiston Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tim Gerarden officiating. Burial will follow in Fremont Scotch Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Home's-Lewiston Chapel and one hour before services at the church.

Laurie, Helen J.

Helen J. Laurie, 83, the former Mrs. Helen J. (John) David, died Wednesday, January 17, 2001 at the Mayo Medical Center, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Helen was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Josepha (Strube) and Conrad Lederer.

Helen is survived by her husband, William Laurie; two sons, John C. David of St. Louis, MO. and Douglas (Lynn) David of Madison, Wis.; two stepchildren, Annie Laurie of Washington, D.C., and Scott Laurie of Phoenix, Ariz.; three granddaughters, Jennifer David Venden and husband, Andy, of Middleton, Wis., Shelly David of Concord, Cal., and Cathy David of St. Louis, MO.; a grandson, John Stephen David of Madison, Wis.; as well as numerous cousins, nephews and nieces in the Cincinnati area.

Helen also leaves a sister, Mrs. Morrell Nunn of Peoria, Ill. Another sister, Marie, died in 1999. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law from her first husband, Mrs. Ruth Sheppard and Mrs. Bernice Benedict, both of Cincinnati; and two sisters-in-law from her husband, Bill, Margaret O'Meara and Deanna Gard, both of Toronto, Canada.

Helen was a perfect wife and mother. After raising her children, Helen was heavily involved in Community Memorial Hospital. She provided volunteer services in the hospital, gift shop, library, and was one of its "Pink Ladies." She also served as chairperson of the annual Winona Hospital Charity Ball in the 70s. She was a board member of the YWCA and an active participant in the YMCA and in her church homes, St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. She was also an active member of the Winona Country Club.

Helen was a joy to be around. She brought happiness and smiles to her family and friends wherever she went.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, January 26 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with Rev. John M. Sauer the celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, with a reception to follow at the Cathedral.

Memorials may be directed to the Community Memorial Hospital Adith Miller Manor.

Wooden, William T.

William T. Wooden, 92, most recently a resident of Epiphany Pines Senior Housing, Coon Rapids, died Sunday, February 18, 2001 of a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eleanor (Jaszewski) Wooden; daughters, Kathleen Wooden Flanagan, Karen Wooden (Ray) Bonine, Corinne Wooden (Michael Benson); and grandchildren, Jennifer (Rob) Bonine, Kevin and Meaghan Flanagan and Abby and Jackie Bonine.

Born in Winona on March 26, 1908 to John and Bertha (Malik) Wooden, Bill was the seventh of ten children. Genevieve, Joe, Ben, Mabel "Sis, " Louise, Jack, Hank, Dorothy and Harold "Duke, " have all preceded him in death. Nephews, Harold, John Paul, Ken, Jim, Bob, Dave and nieces, Gervae Pokrand and Lorraine Lesky survive, as do many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bill was employed by the State of Minnesota in the taxation division for 37 years. He was a lifetime and active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Neville-Lien Post #1287, Knights of Columbus #639, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1243, and Catholic Order of Foresters #746, as well as past chairman of the Winona County Republican Party. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II.

A loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, he will be deeply missed by those who knew him. His quiet strength, dignity and sense of humor will remain with us and in us always.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday, February 24, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with Rev. Daniel R. Dernek officiating. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery where the VFW provided military rites.

Kujak, Eleanore J.

Eleanore J. Kujak, 79, died Wednesday, February 21, 2001 at St. Anne Hospice.

She was born February 3, 1922 in Dodge, Wis., to John and Victoria (Wantock) Kujak.

She had previously been employed at the Chicago Merchandising Mart and later moved to Winona, working at the Winona Theatre until her retirement.

She was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Parish.

Survivors include two sisters, Irene Wera of Byron, Minn., and Terese Kujak of Winona; a brother, Martin Kujak of Winona; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday, February 24 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church with Rev. John M. Sauer officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Pine Creek, Wis.

Pallbearers were Gerald, Emil, Gregory and Mark Kujak, Brian Nisbit and Judy Holm.

Streng, William (Bill) Edward

William (Bill) Edward Streng passed away at the Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, Tex. on January 16, 2001.

Bill was born April 27, 1926 in Winona, the son of August and Lena (Schultz) Streng. Bill was united in marriage to Margaret (Peg) Busher on September 15, 1951 at St. Thomas Pro Cathedral in Winona.

Bill was a veteran of World War II. He served as a radio instructor in the 5th Emergency Air Sea Rescue Squad. He achieved the rank of Sgt. prior to receiving an honorable discharge.

He was a meat cutter at Swifts for nineteen years. He and Peg owned and operated Strengs TV Sales and Service in Winona until retiring in 1988. They were residents of Wabasha prior to moving to Donna, Tex.

He is survived by his wife, Peg; sons, David of Wabasha, and Bruce (Ernie) of Winona; a daughter, Julie (Len) Holtegaard of Pierce, Neb.; grandsons, Ben and Blake Berse of Pierce; and granddaughters, Audumn, Lindzee, and Brittany Streng of Newport, Minn; a sister, Eleanor (Arnum) Schmidt of Beloit, Wis.; two nephews; and many special friends at Casa Del Sol Park in Donna, Tex.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Martha, brothers, Alfred, Edward and Otto, and a nephew, Ralph Voelker.

A memorial service was held January 22 at Casa Del Sol, and a memorial service will be held in Winona at a later date.

Anderson, Lyle William

Lyle William Anderson, 56, Lewiston, Minn., died from complications of cancer on Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn., surrounded by his family.

He was born October 15, 1944 in Winona to Axel and Elsie (Allen) Anderson. Lyle graduated from Lewiston High School in 1962. He and Barbara Kiese were married on May 7, 1966 in Lewiston.

Lyle worked for Lewiston Feed and Produce, as Mill Manager.

He was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Lewiston.

Survivors include his wife, Barb; three children, Laura (Leroy Jonsgaard) Anderson of Stockton, Minn., Roger (Marie) Anderson of Winona, and Daniel (Lynette) Anderson of Glyndon; a son-in-law, Charles Hentges of Stockton; a foster son, Dusty Evanson of Glyndon; nine grandchildren, Nicole, Joshua, Dominic and Sean Hentges, Brady and Brittany Anderson, Nicholas Duncanson, and Katherine and Madelaine Anderson; a brother, John (Dorthy) Anderson of Lewiston; and a sister, Margaret (David) Beech of Lewiston.

His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral services were Saturday, January 27 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewiston with Revs. David A. Fischer and Michael A. Lindemann officiating. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery.

Hoff Funeral Home's-Lewiston Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
