Haeuser, Evelyn Marie

Evelyn Marie Sophie Haeuser, 95, of St. Michael Lutheran Home, Fountain City, Wis., died Monday, January 15, 2001 at the home.

She was born in Buffalo County, Wis., on February 26, 1905, the daughter of Albert and Emma (Conrad) Kammueller. Evelyn married Orrin A. Haeuser on June 4, 1927 in Buffalo County. Together they farmed in partnership with William and Minerva Kammueller. Orrin died April 18, 1977.

Evelyn was a member of St. Michael's Ev. Lutheran Church of Fountain City and its Ladies Aid.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 18 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Michael's Ev. Lutheran Church with Rev. Elroy V. Conradt officiating. Spring interment will be in Fountain City Public Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to time of services.

Casketbearers are Leland, Carroll and Kenneth Haeuser, and William Kammueller, Jr.

Memorials may be given to St. Michael's Ev. Lutheran Church in Fountain City.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Fountain City, Wis., is assisting with the arrangements.

Cieminski, Gary J.

Gary J. "Bones" and "Slip" Cieminski, 60, of Fountain City, Wis., died Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.

Gary was born in Winona on August 8, 1940 to Frank and Armella (Baures) Cieminski. He married Marveen Nelson on October 8, 1966 in Winona.

Gary was a smutter for Bay State Milling since March of 1976, and has been on disability since July 2000. Prior to that he operated the Texaco filling station in Fountain City, and previous to that he had worked for Krager Custom Coach of Winona. He also worked at Knitcraft and for Winona Knitting Mills.

He is a member of American Federation of Grain Millers, Local #133. He was an avid wood worker.

He is survived by his wife, Marveen; his mother, Armella Kunda of Fountain City; children: Donald Cieminski of Eau Claire, Wis., James (Cindy) Cieminski of Cochrane, Wis., Lisa (Mick)Fort of Winona and Cindy (David) Walski of Trempealeau, Wis.; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Carol (Roger) Czaplewski of Bluff Siding, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his father and stepfather.

Preliminary services for Gary will be on Friday, January 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home in Fountain City, with a Mass of Christian Celebration at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fountain City, with Rev. Douglas Charles Robertson officiating. Spring interment will be in Pieper's Valley Cemetery, rural Fountain City.

Friends may call at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home on Thursday, January 18 from 4-9 p.m., where there will be a prayer service at 8:00 p.m.

Casketbearers will be nieces and nephews.

Spitzer, Anna Rosina

Anna Rosina (Schreiber) Spitzer, 91, of St. Charles, Minn., died Tuesday, January 16, 2001 Lewiston Villa, Lewiston, Minn.

Anna was born July 11, 1909 in St. Charles Township to Karl and Amalia (Maier) Schreiber. She and Adolph Spitzer were married on July 12, 1927 in St. Charles. They farmed in the St. Charles area for 31 years before moving in to St. Charles in 1958. Adolph died May 5, 1997.

Anna is survived by three sons, Ervin (Shirley) Spitzer of St. Charles, Vernon (Carol) Spitzer of Winona, and Rudie (Marie) Spitzer of St. Charles; one daughter, Donna (James) Prudoehl of St. Charles; seventeen grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Her husband, two sisters, Molly and Clara, two brothers, Norman and Raymond, a grandson, Adam, and a great-grandson, Daniel, preceded her in death.

Anna was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Lewiston.

Funeral services were Friday, January 19 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Lewiston with Revs. Michael A. Lindemann and David A. Fischer officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Hoff Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

King, John F.

John F. King, 63, of 1026 East Eighth Street, died Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at Winona Community Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 21, 1937 in Winona to Aloysius and Frances (Rostanka) King. He married Carolyn A. Brownlee on July 23, 1960 in Amarillo, Tex. She died May 16, 1989.

He had been employed as a jailer at the Law Enforcement Center.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish. John served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his mother, Frances King of Winona; two daughters, Sandra (Ronald) Smith and Susan (Terry) Marcum, both of Winona; two sons, Joseph (Twyla) King of Yankton, So. Dak., and Jay (Val) King of Riceville, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and four sisters, Mary (John) Swails, Gloria VanDeinse and Carol King, all of Winona, and Catherine (Kenneth) Richardson of Staples, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his father, his wife, a son, John Jr., and a brother, Richard.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Thursday, January 18 at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Chapel with Rev. Milo L. Ernster officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Brand, Tom Nyseth, Steve Marcolini, Jerry Obieglo, Tim O'Brien and Steve Baumgart.

Leonard, Betty Berg

Betty Berg Leonard, 67, of Wahkon, Minn., died Friday, January 12, 2001, of complications from breast cancer.

She is survived by her husband, Rod Leonard of Wahkon; daughters, Karin Sonneman of Winona, and Jane Leonard of St. Paul; a son, John Leonard of Belmont, Mass.; a brother, Charles Berg of Fargo, No. Dak.; and grandchildren, James, Thomas and Jane Sonneman of Winona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Hazel Berg.

Ms. Leonard was the first woman to serve as editor of the University of Minnesota Daily in peacetime, holding that position for the 1954-55 term. She was a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Journalism, and then worked as a reporter for the Minneapolis Tribune and the Washington Post. After leaving reporting to devote herself full-time to raising a family, she returned as an editor for the Congressional Index Service, a Washington, D.C. company that was pioneering the computerized indexing of congressional hearings. She specialized in reporting hearings on activities and budgets of the Department of Defense.

She retired in 1998, and returned to her family farm in Wahkon. She was a founding member of St. Mary's Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Maryland, and an elder of the Wahkon Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services were Saturday, January 20 at the Wahkon Presbyterian Church, Wahkon, MN 56386.

Memorials may be sent to the Betty Berg Leonard Memorial Fund at the same church. The memorial fund will be dedicated to programs that further the work of the church in the community.

Siegel, Myron J.

Myron J. Siegel, 88, of St. Anne Hospice, and formerly of 614 East Belleview St., died Wednesday, January 17, 2001 at Community Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 31, 1912 in Milwaukee, Wis., to Harry and Dinah Siegel. He married Eleanor Wally on May 31, 1941 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Winona.

He was employed at the Park and Winona Hotels and later at Winona Insurance Agency, from which he retired.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, where he was a lector and usher. He was a member of the Toastmaster's Club and the Winona Noon Lions Club from 1964 until his death. He served as club president and in many other official capacities. He was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award -- the highest award presented by the Lions Club. Myron was at his best in the role of a Lion's Tail Twister. His quick wit and keen sense of humor made him a legend among other Lion Tail Twisters in Minnesota. He will long be remembered for his portrayal of Judge Bugsy Siegel and his kangaroo court, which would bring audiences to fits of hysterical laughter. He enjoyed gardening and riding his bike around Lake Winona.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor of Winona; four daughters, Deanna (Edward) Ratajczyk of Winona, Virginia Siegel of Chicago, Janice (Robert) Giaquinto of Winona, and Debra Siegel of Winona; grandchildren, Gregory, John, Scott and Michael Ratajczyk, Gina, Nisa, Angelo and GiLia Giaquinto, and Kaela Hutcherson-Siegel; and two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Brandon Giaquinto.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and one sister.

A Memorial Mass was offered Saturday, January 20 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with Msgr. Roy E. Literski officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Winona Noon Lions Club.

Love you forever, like you for always, as long as there's love, our father you'll be. We carry your heart. We carry it in ours.
