Papenfuss, Margaret E.

Margaret E. Papenfuss, 97, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare, where she was a resident for six and a half years.
Margaret was born July 15, 1905, in Hart Township, Winona County, Minn., to James and Anne Gernes Hennessey. She grew up in Winona and graduated from Winona Normal School. She taught as a lay teacher for the College of Saint Teresa at the parochial school in Fairmont, Minn. Returning to Winona, she worked for Mississippi Valley Public Service Company and Federal Bakery. She married Victor W. Papenfuss on September 24, 1930, in Winona.
Margaret and Victor farmed from 1937-1959, in Wilson Township. During their time in Wilson, Margaret was active as a 4-H club leader, in her church, and was a member of the Wilson Birthday Club.
In 1959, they moved to the Twin Cities where she worked for the State of Minnesota Motor Vehicle Division, retiring in 1971. Margaret and Victor then moved to Buffalo City, Wis., where she joined the 500 Club and the Alma-Buffalo City Garden Club. In 1987, she and her husband moved back to Winona.
She is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
We will remember her for her gracious manner and unconditional love and respect for all she met.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She is survived by her children, Jerry (Patricia) Papenfuss of Winona, Mary Ann (Jerome) Bambenek of Hastings, Minn., and Carol (Donald) Runger of Scottsdale, Ariz.; ten grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 14, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Martin-Myhre Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-7 p.m., where the rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Friday after 12:30 p.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church Commons.
Memorials may be directed to St. Anne Extended Healthcare or Sauer Memorial Home.
Martin-Myhre Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

Siwicki, Nickolaus Ladislaus

Nickolaus Ladislaus Siwicki, of 104 Main St. #216, Winona, and most recently of Franciscan Skemp Nursing Home in Arcadia, Wis., died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, LaCrosse, Wis.
Born January 20, 1925, in Czernowitz, Romania, he fled to Austria with his parents after the occupation of Russian Communists in 1940. He lived in Linz, Austria, until 1957, when he moved to the United States.
Nick had a great love for photography. He retired from Herff Jones (formerly Camera Art) in Lewiston, Minn., in 2002.
Nick was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and Josephine Schwertel.
He is survived by one sister, Maria Slaby Benson of Arcadia; four nieces, Debra Slaby of Arcadia, Barb (Mike) Krambeer of Postville, Iowa, and Sylvia and Sophia Siwicki of Poland; three nephews, John (Nettie) Slaby of Japan, Mircea (Lily) Zavionu of Piatra Neomt, Romania, and Jon Siwicki of Poland; three great-nieces, Bridget (Willis) Breska of Arcadia, Kristen Kupietz of Arcadia, and Christina Zavionu of England; two great-nephews, Adam Kupietz of Tucson, Ariz., and Nicholas Kupietz of Postville, Iowa; two great-great-nieces, Briana and Hallie; three great-great-nephews, Bret, Nathan, and William; great-great-nieces and nephews in Poland and England; and good friend, Michael Foster.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 2 p.m. Friday, March 14, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Shawn T. Haremza officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Independence, Wis.
Friends may call Thursday from 5-7 p.m., at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home, and again on Friday from 1 p.m. until time of the Mass at the church. A Christian Wake Service will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Adam Kupietz, Nicholas Kupietz, Thomas Kupietz, Michael Foster, Willis Breska, and Michael Krambeer.

McShane, Sister Quentin

Sister Quentin McShane, 93, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, Minn., who served as an educator and pharmacist, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at Assisi Heights, Rochester.
Born Carmela Eileen McShane on August 20, 1909, in Austin, Minn., Sister Quentin entered the Franciscan Congregation in 1926, from St. Augustine Parish. She made profession of vows in 1928, and began her teaching ministry at St. Juliana Parish, Chicago. She also taught in Ashland, Ky., Portsmouth, Ohio, and Watertown, S.D. From 1942-1977, Sister Quentin ministered as pharmacist at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester. After leaving the pharmacy in 1979, she worked as a volunteer in the hospital's cashier office and at the information desk. Sister Quentin celebrated her diamond jubilee in 1988, and retired to Assisi Heights in 1993.
Sister Quentin is survived by her Franciscan Community.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, March 10, in the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

Olson, Erma S. Lee

Erma Sylvia Olson, 85, of Peterson, Minn., died Friday, March 7, 2003, at Good Shepherd Home in Rushford, Minn.
Erma was born September 9, 1917, in Fillmore County, Minn. She married Clifford Olson on June 22, 1940, in Highland, Minn. He is deceased.
Erma graduated from Peterson High School and attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson, holding different offices in the church, and was their church organist for many years.
Erma is survived by one daughter, Rebecca (Dale) Rustad of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sons, Stan (Naomi) of LeRoy, Minn., and Steve of Charlottesville, Va.; seven grandchildren; and three brothers, Jaymore Lee of Peterson, Jacob Lee of Huxley, Iowa, and David Lee of Whalen, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, and her sister, Rollyce Olstad.
Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, March 12, at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Wade Davik officiating. Burial will be in the East Grace Cemetery in Peterson. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Rinn, Allen John

Allen John Rinn, 66, of Watkins Home and formerly of Lewiston, died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Winona Community Memorial Hospital.
Allen was born September 5, 1936, in Winona County to Richard and Alpha (Peterson) Rinn. He graduated from Lewiston High School and married Barbara Sharboneau at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Winona on October 6, 1956. The couple farmed near Wyattville. He retired from farming in 1985 due to health reasons.
Allen belonged to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston and the Lewiston Sportsmen's Club. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling and going to their cabin near Hayward, Wisconsin.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara, six children, Jess (Chris) Rinn of Minnesota City; Gloria (Jim) Pflughoeft; Clay (Pamela) Rinn of Goodview; Angela (Mark) Clark of Rollingstone; Dawn (Jim) Stanek of Goodview; and Lucy (Jeff) Henning of Apple Valley, 14 grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, three brothers, Law-rence (Caroline) Rinn of Rochester; Gerald (Shirley) Rinn Sr.; and Daniel (Diane) Rinn both of Lewiston, five sisters, Joann (Robert) Franzen; Janice (Robert) Dornfeld of Winona; Cheryl (David) Meyer of Burleson, Texas; Paulette (Duane) Kinneberg and Mary Rinn of Winona. His parents and a sister, Susan, preceded him in death.
There was a Memorial Mass 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with the Rev. Peter Schuster officiating. Hoff Funeral Home's - Lewiston Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Peterson, Josephine M.

Josephine M. Peterson, 94, died Friday, March 7, 2003, at Winona Community Memorial Hospital. She was born December 11, 1908, to Cornelius and Jacobina Woxland. She married Edward Peterson on October 19, 1927, in Rushford, Minn.
She was a lifelong resident of rural Rushford with the last 8 years at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home. Jo was a lifetime member of Rushford Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. Jo loved working in church, traveling, baking wedding cakes and entertaining her family.
Jo is survived by her husband of 75 years, Edward, of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home; three daughters, Jane (Pete) Quamen of Rushford, Minn., Doris (Ken) Feine of St. Charles, Minn., and Connie (Gary) Boyum of Apple Valley, Minn.; one son, Dennis (Ruth) Peterson of Rushford, Minn.; 9 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services are planned for Thursday, March 13, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. David Watson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at Hoff Funeral Homes - Rushford Chapel from 4:30-8:00 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Lande, Marilyn

Marilyn Ann Lande, age 73, of 25 Superior Lane, Winona, Minn., passed away Monday, March 10, 2003.
Marilyn was born in Winona, on December 11, 1929, to William and Lucy (Schulz) Schwanke. She was a graduate of Winona High School. She married Douglas Lande on April 12, 1947, and was a lifelong resident of Winona.
Marilyn worked as a homemaker, Avon representative and medical secretary. In retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling around the country in their motor home.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Douglas W. Lande, Winona; children, Dennis (Wanda) Lande, Coon Rapids, Minn., Sue Olson, Winona, Scott (Kelley Burke) Lande, Winona, Dale (Mary) Lande, Lake Elmo, Minn., and Paul Lande, Winona; a sister, Joan Uhl, Winona; seven grandchildren, Lisa Lande, Derek Lande, Robert Lande, Amber (Brandon) Koenig, William Lande, Tyler Lande, Jessica Lande; granddaughter-in-law Cherie Robinson; and two great-grandchildren, Sky Robinson and Dakota Koenig.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lucy Schwanke; brother, William (Bud) Schwanke Jr.; grandsons, Douglas Olson-Robinson and Paul William Lande.
There will be a private family interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Visitation will be Friday, March 14, 2003, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral arrangements are being made by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

Jorgenson, Alvin C.

Alvin C. Jorgenson, 78, of LaCrescent and formerly of Houston, Minn., died Tuesday, March 04, 2003, at Franciscan ­ Skemp Healthcare in Lacrosse, Wis. Alvin was born on December 29, 1924, in LaCrosse, Wis., to Dan and Rovilla (Vix) Jorgenson. He was raised in the Houston area. Alvin served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during WWII. On March 4, 1950, he married Cleo Morris. Alvin lived in the Houston area for most of his life, where he was a farmer and worked as a plumber. Alvin and Cleo moved to LaCrescent recently. He was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church and the Arnet Sheldon American Legion in Houston. Alvin is survived by his wife, Cleo; three sons, Wayne (Marie) Jorgenson of Waco, Texas, Gary (Polly) Jorgenson of Dakota, Minn., and Joe (Wanda) Jorgenson of LaCrescent, Minn.; one brother, Archie (Carol) Jorgenson of Houston; one sister, Mary (David) Mader of Caledonia, Minn.; 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Ruth Krumrie, one granddaughter, Bridget Krumrie, and one brother, Harold Jorgenson. The funeral service was on Friday, March 7, 2003, at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. There were Military Honors by the Arnet ­ Sheldon American Legion Post of Houston. Following the funeral service Alvin's body was cremated with burial in the Stone Church Cemetery in Houston at a later date. Hoff Funeral Homes ­ Houston Chapel.

Figliulo, Eugene

Eugene (Gene) Edward Figliulo, 78, of Burr Ridge, Ill., died March 9. An alumnus of Saint Mary's University, Gene later served on the board of trustees and was chairman in the 1980s. He was honored by the board as trustee emeritus. Gene was founder of SPR Inc., a Chicago business technology consulting firm. He was a philanthropist to many causes, including Catholic education. The Figliulo Recital Hall at Saint Mary's University is named for his family. Gene was married to Peggy for 56 years. They had eight children and 26 grandchildren.
Visitation is Thursday, March 13, 3-9 p.m. at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 West 55th St., Countryside, Ill. Funeral Mass is Friday, March 14, 11:15 a.m. at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, 5005 Wolf Rd., Western Springs, Ill.

Boberg, Dustin J.

Dustin J. Boberg, 18, of Arcadia, Wis., died at his home on Sunday, March 9, 2003.
He was born on March 31, 1984, in Arcadia to Gerald and LiAnn (Slaby) Boberg. He was a 2002 graduate of Arcadia High School, where he was an A student, and a member of Christ Lutheran Church. Dustin had been farming with his father, Jerry.
Dustin is survived by his father, Gerald Boberg of Arcadia, his mother, LiAnn (Don) Slaby-Korpal of Arcadia; one brother, Jason Boberg of Arcadia; and one sister, Deni Slaby of Arcadia; his paternal grandparents, James and Darlene Boberg of Arcadia; and his maternal grandparents, Gerald and Florence Slaby of Independence.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2003, at 7:00 p.m. at the Killian Funeral Horne Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Glencoe Lutheran Cemetery, Arcadia.
Friends may call at the Killian Funeral Horne on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the services.
