Ruben, Lester John

Lester John Ruben, 93, of Yachats, Ore., died October 3, 2000.

Lester was born on the family farm in the Town of Cross, Fountain City, Wis. He was the son of Andrew and Anna Ruben. He married Erma Spencer on June 16, 1939 in Winona.

He is survived by his wife, Erma; three daughters, Kathy of Oregon, Sylvia of California, and Roberta of Arizona; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Stettler of Cochrane, Wis., and Anna Mae (LeRoy) Schaffner of Fountain City, Wis.; a brother, Elmer (Belva) Ruben of Fountain City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Walter, Allen, Robert, Andrew and Ralph.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 14, at 7:30 p.m. at St. John's UCC in Fountain City with Rev. Fritz West and Rev. Gene Krueger officiating.

Testor, Gerald T.

Gerald T. Testor, 73, Winona, died Monday, October 9, 2000 at the Watkins Home where he had been a resident for four years.

He is survived by two brothers, Joe (Thelma) Testor of Spartanburg, SC and James (Mary) Testor of Winona; twelve nieces and nephews.

Private family services will be Wednesday, October 11 at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph L. Keefe of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

Richie, Daniel E. "Dan"

Daniel E. "Dan" Richie, 74, of the Watkins Home, died Wednesday, January 5, 2000 at Community Memorial Hospital's Emergency Room.

He was born August 14, 1925 in Park Falls, WI, to Samuel and Nina (Harbo) Richie. He married Susanna T. Schlink on August 7, 1948 in St. Joseph's Church, Winona.

Dan was employed at Watkins Products for 35 years, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Parish and its choir, Knights of Columbus Council #639, and was also a member of the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post #9. He enjoyed being a Boy Scout leader for nine years as well as singing in the Barbershoppers.

Dan served in the U.S. Army in World War II, being awarded the victory medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon W/1 Bronze Battle Star, 2 overseas bars, Army of Occupation Medal when wounded in action in Germany in 1945. He also served in Rhineland. Dan was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal.

Survivors include his wife, Susanna of Winona; six children: Eugene (Rosanne) Richie, Port Washington, NY, Diane (Richard) Iverson, Winona, Marilyn (Curt) Marquardt, Buffalo City, WI, Linda (Darrel) Douglas, Hickory, NC, Thomas (Debbie) Richie, Lincoln, NE, and Timothy (Kathy) Richie, Rochester, MN; thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Clementine Richie, LaCrosse, WI, Betty (Albert) Hess, Nelson, WI, and Mary Gene Richie, Madison, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, one great-grandchild, a brother and a sister.

Funeral services were Saturday, January 8 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Michael J. Cronin officiating. Burial was in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Lewiston, MN, where The American Legion provided military honors.

Members of the Knights of Columbus were pallbearers.

Kutcher, Marie L.

Marie L. Kutcher, 97, died at St. Anne Hospice on Thursday, January 6, 2000.

She was born to Andrew and Mary Anderson on May 11, 1902 in Winona.

She attended St. Thomas Grade School and Cathedral High School, as well as Winona Business College.

Marie was employed in Winona until May 1928, when she went to Detroit, MI, where she was employed in the insurance industry.

She married Walter S. Kutcher in Detroit on January 2, 1932. They had no children. They returned to Winona in 1963, where Walter died November 7, 1981.

Marie was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church. She belonged to St. Anne Hospice and Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart WCCW, the Historical Society and the Polish Museum.

Marie is survived by a cousin, Dorothy (Stan) Walch of Winona; and by two special friends, Marge (Oscar) Horner and Mary (Larry) Will of Winona. She is also survived by her Second Floor Family of Caregivers at St. Anne's who gave her much loving care for the last eight years of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister, Quirene.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Our Lady at St. Anne Hospice, with Msgr. Roy Literski officiating. Visitation at the Chapel will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Zeller, James E.

James E. Zeller, 62, 58 North Street, Fountain City, WI, died Tuesday, January 4, 2000 at his home.

James Edward Zeller was born on September 24, 1937 in Wabasha, MN, the son of Theresa A. (Clausen) and Herbert Jacob Zeller.

He graduated from Fountain City High and attended college at San Jose State, San Jose, CA. He returned to Winona and received electronics training at the Winona Vocational School.

Jim went to work for Collins Radio of Cedar Rapids, IA. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the Army and served from 1961-1963. He returned to Collins Radio in 1963 and remained there for several more years. Jim returned to Fountain City when he was hired as its police officer. He retired as Chief of Police after serving more than 25 years.

He is survived by his two brothers, David (Merian) Zeller of Scotts Valley, CA, and Richard (Jeremy) Zeller of Fountain City; one half brother, LeRoy (Amanda) Zeller of Nelson, WI; two half sisters, Joan Smith of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and Phyllis (Paul) Leschig, Manitowoc, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Donald, in infancy, and one half sister, Anna Mae Hendries.

Funeral services were Saturday, January 8 at St. Michael's Ev. Lutheran Church in Fountain City, with Rev. Elroy V. Conradt officiating. Burial was in Fountain City Public Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the St. Michael's Ev. Lutheran Church in Fountain City.

Colby-Fawcett Funeral Home in Fountain City assisted the family with the arrangements.

Breske, John M.

John M. Breske, 88, formerly of 110 Carimona St., died on his 88th birthday on Thursday, January 6, 2000 at the Watkins Home.

He was born January 6, 1912 in Winona to Alex and Paulina (Wise) Breske. He married Cleda M. Schmitt on February 14, 1942 at St. Thomas Church, Winona.

John was proud of his work at Bay State Milling Co. where he was employed for 46 years and later enjoyed doing custodial work at Winona Glove Co.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish where he ushered for 45 years. He was also a member of the Winona Athletic Club.

John is survived by his wife, Cleda, the love of his life; and special nephews and their families, Jerry (Noel) Antoff, Robert (Carol) Wooden, Harley (Chris) Antoff, and David (Mary) Wooden; a special niece, Mary Breza; and a step-sister, Rose Sikorski.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Sunday, January 9 at 2 p.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with Rev. Robert G. Meyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of Mass at the church.

Pallbearers will be Robert, David, John, Mike and Ed Wooden and Scott Antoff.

Honorary pallbearers will be Anne Wooden, Mary Gordon, Kate Fagan, Janet Wooden, Kim Feine, Jamie Antoff, Mary Breza, Harley Antoff and Tom Wooden.

DeBolt, Jean B.

Jean B. DeBolt, 215 Washington St., died Thursday, January 6, 2000 at Community Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 10 at 2 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home.

Hornberg, Ragnhild K.

Ragnhild K. Hornberg, 71, 722 East Fourth St., died Thursday, January 6, 2000 at the C&R Unit of Community Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements are pending.

Starzecki, Carl S. Jr.

Carl Starzecki, Jr., 71, 715 East Third St., died Friday, January 7, 2000 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, LaCrosse, WI.

He was born September 13, 1928 in Winona to Carl J. and Minnie R. (Pelowski) Starzecki. He married Rosemary Ann Loshek on June 6, 1953 in Winona.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, Winona Athletic Club and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1243. He was a graduate of Cotter High School.

Carl was employed at United Building Centers for 19 years, retiring in 1992. Prior to that, he worked for W.M.C. Construction Co.

He was an avid sports fan, especially of baseball. He had played on Cotter's baseball team and was known as one of the "Twirling Trio" pitching staff in 1948.

He served his country in the U.S. Army Airborne as a paratrooper during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Rosemary; two daughters, Debbie (Tom) Brokaw and Diana Huwald, both of Winona; two grandsons, Bradley Brokaw and Jason Huwald; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant granddaughter.

Funeral services will be Sunday, January 9 at 5 p.m. at the Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Chapel with Rev Robert G. Meyer officiating.

Friends may call Sunday from 4 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
