Anderson, Bernice M.

Bernice M. Anderson, 86, St. Charles, MN, died Sunday, January 30, 2000 at Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles.

She was born January 24, 1914 to Clyde and Clara (Boyton) Woodward in Fremont, MN. She married Clarence G. Anderson on January 28, 1931 at North Prairie Lutheran Church. He died May 2, 1997.

Bernice was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, St. Charles.

She is survived by a son, Larry Anderson of Inver Grove Heights, MN; a daughter, Betty (Dick) Hanson of Minneapolis, MN; two grandchildren, Brett Hanson and Melissa Anderson; a brother; five sisters; and a brother-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son Roger, two brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 3 at Faith Lutheran Church in St. Charles with Rev. Chris Croghan officiating.Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, St. Charles.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2 at Hoff Funeral Homes-St. Charles Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.

Hoff Funeral Homes - St. Charles Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Mayer, Reid Handley

Reid Handley Mayer, infant son of Lisa (Handley) and Donald Lee Mayer, W22264 11th Street, Trempealeau, WI, was stillborn on January 28, 2000.

Survivors include his parents; one brother, Noah Handley Mayer; maternal grandparents, Caroline and James Handley of St.Cloud, MN; maternal great-grandfather, Peter Wiebe, St. Cloud; paternal grandparents, Evelyn and Dennis Mayer of Waterford, PA; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by seven great-grandparents.

Private family services were held Monday, January 31 at the Trempealeau United Methodist Church in Trempealeau. Officiating was Rev. Betsy Miller-Ruben.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home of Winona assisted the family with the arrangements.

Ellsworth, Cecil M.

Cecil M. Ellsworth, 92, Utica, MN, died Sunday, January 30, 2000 at the Lewiston Villa, Lewiston, MN.

Cecil was born February 4, 1907 in Utica to Osman B. and Edna (Hammond) Ellsworth. He married Frances Brom on October 29, 1930 at St. Thomas Pro-Cathedral in Winona. The couple made their home in Utica where they farmed. Frances died February 10, 1993.

Cecil had served as Utica School Clerk for 12 years, Mayor of Utica for 12 years, 4-H leader for 15 years, Utica Senior Citizen President and other offices, Utica Food Commodities distribution volunteer, President of the Oakwood Cemetery Association, and was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons, Benjamin Ellsworth of Rochester, MN and James Ellsworth of Utica; a daughter, Mary Jane Sobeck of Goodview, MN; eleven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 2 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Rev James Callahan officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Utica. Friends may call from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Homes - St. Charles Chapel.

Kleyla, Celestine "Sally"

Celestine "Sally" Kleyla, 86, Winona, died Monday, January 31, 2000 at St. Anne Hospice, Winona.

Sally was born February 4, 1913 in Wilson Township, Winona County to Constance and Agnes (Fakler) Sobeck. On June 30, 1934 she married Willard Woll in Winona. He died June 17, 1966. Sally then married Herbert Kleyla in September 1970 in LaCrosse, WI. He died in 1982.

Sally worked at the Federal Bakery for many years and retired as its manager. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Adelaide Ringlien of Tulare, CA, Mildred Kane of Lake City, MN, and Bernice (Robert) Stein of Houston, TX; three sisters-in-law, Nora Sobeck, Collette Sobeck, and Arlene Sobeck all of Winona; nephews, Ronald Ringlien of Larkspur, CA, Donald Sobeck of Atlanta, GA, Roger Sobeck of Winona, Richard Sobeck of Alexander, MN, William Kane of St. Paul, MN, Thomas Kane of St. Louis, MO, Gary Sobeck and Jim Sobeck both of Winona, Robert Stein Jr. of Glen Ellyn, IL, and James Stein of Minneapolis, MN; and nieces, Shirley Gierok of Winona, Bonnie Newman of Mondovi, WI, Susanne McElmury of Lake City, MN, Mary Glaunrt of Matthew, NC, Sharon Shaffer of Tulare, CA, Marcia Breiland of Winona, and Patricia Stein of Houston, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands Willard and Herbert, brothers Heron, Ervin and Eugene, and a nephew, Wayne Ringlien.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, February 3 at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Michael Cronin officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends my call one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Sally's nephews, Roger, Richard, Gary and James Sobeck, William and Thomas Kane, and Robert and James Stein.

The family suggests memorials be directed to St. Anne Hospice.

Werre, Rev. Alvin G.

Reverend Alvin G. Werre, 66, of Pickwick, MN, died Monday, January 31, 2000 at the LaCrescent Health Care Center, LaCrescent, MN.

Reverend Werre was born April 23, 1933 in Tappen, ND, to Christ and Esther Werre. He graduated from Northwestern Prep School and College in Watertown, WI, and then graduated from the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI. Reverend Werre was ordained into the ministry in 1958

On June 1, 1957, he was united in marriage to Arleen Loppnow at Wayside, WI. Reverend and Mrs. Werre were blessed with five children.

Reverend Werre served his Lord as a missionary to Nigeria, Africa and Zambia, Africa, as well as parishes in Greensboro, NC, Batesland, SD, Altura, MN, Clatonia, NE, Cataract, WI, Ridgeway, MN and Pickwick, MN. He retired in 1999 after serving 41 years in the ministry.

He is survived by his wife, Arleen; one daughter, Jill (Rev. Bruce) Bitter of Manitowoc, WI; and four sons, Commander Timothy (Ronda) Werre of Millington, TN, Mark (Cheryl) Werre of Viola, WI, Rev. Jonathan (Sarah) Werre of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, and Rev. Luke (Jennifer) Werre of Long Island, NY; nineteen grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth (Gary) Nelson of Exeland, WI and Luella (Floyd) Schlottman of New Ulm, MN; one brother, Walter Werre of Omaha, NE; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 5 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pickwick with Revs. Galen J. Riediger and John Parcher officiating. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Wayside, WI.

Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Martin-Myhre Funeral Home and on Saturday after 10 a.m. at the church.

Casketbearers will be Timothy Werre, Mark Werre, Jonathan Werre, Luke Werre, Bruce Bitter, and grandson Timothy James Werre Jr.

Memorials are being arranged.

Martin-Myhre Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Fabian, Lillian L.

Lillian L. Fabian, 90, Lewiston, MN, died Tuesday, February 8, 2000 at Whitewater Healthcare Center, St. Charles, MN.

She was born September 27, 1909 to Clarence and Edna (Ives) Bundy in Winona County. On October 23, 1926 she married Ernest Fabian. They farmed in Winona County until 1954, when they moved into Winona. Lillian owned and operated a beauty shop in Winona for 20 years. Around 1960 they moved to Lewiston. Ernest died April 17, 1979.

Lillian was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. She greatly enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by a son, Don Fabian of Lewiston; a son-in-law, Harold Spalding of Winona; a daughter-in-law, Adeline Fabian of Westminster, CO; nine grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Delo (Mary) Bundy of Winona; two sisters, Rita Yaeger of Frazee, MN and Mildred Warneke of Millville; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Dolly Klug of Fremont.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, Alice and Leona, a son, Harold, two sisters, Grace and Pearl, and two granddaughters, JoAnn and Jeana.

Funeral services were Thursday, February 10 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. David A. Fischer and Rev. Michael A. Lindemann co-officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Roger, Raymond and Robert Spalding, David, Larry and Lyle Bauer.

Honorary pallbearers were Sally Frey, Diane Jefferson and Jodi Shea.

Bellman, Margaret B.

Margaret B. Bellman, 92, 1635 Service Drive, . died Tuesday, February 8, 2000 at Community Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 23, 1907 in Winona to Paul and Blanche (Czaplewski) Palbicki.

She was employed at the Voss Candy Company, Winona. She was a member of St.Stanislaus Kostka Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Irene Bellman of Winona; a son, Roger (Sandy) Bellman, Freemont, CA; and a sister, Leone Brown, Winona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were Thursday, February 10 at the Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Chapel with Rev. Robert G. Meyer officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
