Gleiter, Edwin F.
Edwin F. Gleiter, 73, Mondovi, WI, and formerly of Alma, WI, died Saturday, April 15, 2000 at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 18 at St. John Lutheran Church in Alma with Rev. Joel Bacon officiating. Burial was in the Alma Public Cemetery.

Lee, Clifford T.
Clifford T. Lee, 92, died Friday, April 14, 2000 at the Caledonia Lutheran Home in Caledonia, MN.

Clifford was born September 28, 1907 in Houston County, MN to Amund and Emma (Flatten)Lee. On September 28, 1933 he married Pearl Rostad in Houston, MN.

Clifford was a lifelong farmer of Houston County and also worked for Green Thumb. Clifford will be remembered for his devotion to his livestock and his enjoyment of fishing. He was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Sidney ( Beverly) Aasum of Caledonia; four grandchildren, Sherre (John) Koch of Spring Valley, MN, Randy (Jolene) Aasum of Caledonia, Lori (Doug) Meyer of Eitzen, MN and Nathan Aasum of Caledonia; ten great-grandchildren, Chad, Lucas, Bridget, Ben, Neil and Nathan Aasum, Chelsey, Angela and Karissa Meyer and Hannah Aasum.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl; daughter, Barbara Aasum; three sisters, Louise, Mabel and Edna; and two brothers, Clifford and Orvin.

Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, April 19 at 11 a.m. at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery in Houston.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Berg, Sister Margaret
Sister Margaret Berg, 82 a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, MN, who served as an educator died Saturday, April 15, 2000 at Assisi Heights, Rochester.

Born Margaret Elaine Berg on May 22, 1917 in St. James, MN, Sister Margaret entered the Franciscan Congregation in 1935 from St. James Parish. She made profession of vows in 1938 and began her teaching ministry at St. Augustine Parish, Austin, MN. She taught in the areas of Home Economics and Social Studies in Winona, Owatonna and Sleepy Eye, MN. She also taught in Ironton and Columbus, OH, Santa Ana, CA, and Pueblo, CO. She retired to Assisi Heights in 1990 and celebrated her diamond jubilee in 1998.

Sister Margaret is survived by her Franciscan Community and by two brothers, Robert Berg of Lake Crystal, MN and Donald Berg of Cape Girardeau, MO; and two sisters, Rosemary Quiring of Lake Crystal, MN and Dolores Hill of Meredith, NH.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 19 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes at Assisi Heights with Rev. Jack Krough officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call until time of the service on Wednesday.

Nicklay, Eugene G.
Eugene G. Nicklay, 84, of Blooming Prairie, MN and formerly of Rochester and Eyota, MN, died Monday, April 17, 2000 at the Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Eyota with Rev. Dan Dernek officiating. Burial will be in Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery.

Pehler, Anthony "Tony"
Anthony "Tony" Pehler, 87, Arcadia, WI, died Sunday, April 16, 2000.

Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 19 at the Wozney Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gerald Pehler officiating. Burial will be on Thursday, April 20 in Calvary Cemetery, Arcadia.

Emerson, Shirley V.

Shirley V. Emerson, 58, Galesville, WI, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000 at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Center, LaCrosse, WI.

Funeral services were Monday, April 17 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Galesville, with Rev. Robert Wagner officiating. Burial was in St. Bridget's Catholic Cemetery in Ettrick, WI.

Foegen, Delbert "Del"
Delbert "Del" Foegen, 71, Arcadia, WI, died Friday, April 14, 2000 at his home.

Funeral services were Monday, April 17 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Rev. Raymond Pedretti officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Arcadia

Barnes, Blanche M.
Blanche M. Barnes, 92, died Saturday, April 15, 2000 at the Watkins Home.

She was born January 9, 1908 in Winona to Leo and Martha (Cierzan) Kedrowski. She married Charles F. Barnes, who died in 1945.

Blanche was a former member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Parish.

She is survived by a special friend, Rita (Hornburg) Riedemann and her family of Minnesota City, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and a sister.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 18 at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Chapel with Rev. John M. Sauer officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Schafer, Norman C.
Norman Chester Schafer, 81, of Isanti, Minn., passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2001.

He married Vivian Alma Fleischfresser on June 25, 1947. They were later divorced. She passed away in January 1998. They had four children, Janice (Galen) Hass of Isanti, Dwain (Diane) Schafer of Stanhope, Iowa, Ronnie (Nicky) Schafer of Watertown, SD, and Karen (Everett) Holz of Winona.

Norman later married Marge. She passed away in 2001. They had a daughter, Tricia (Pete) McCloy of White Bear Lake, Minn. Norman is also survived by a brother, Alvin (Delores) Schafer of Winona; sisters, Phyllis (Ray) Lanz and LaVonne (LeRoy) Jahnke, both of Winona; eleven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, January 3, at Faith Lutheran Church in Isanti. Burial will be in Athens Lutheran Cemetery on Friday, January 4, at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be two hours prior to the services Thursday at the church.

Memorials are preferred.

Flanigan, Dennis J.
Dennis J. Flanigan, 63, of Rt. 3, Winona, died Friday, December 28, 2001 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, LaCrosse, Wis.

Dennis was born November 1, 1938 in Nodine, Minn. to John and Emma Papenfuss Flanigan. He graduated from Winona Senior High school in 1956. He married Nancy Kane on January 26, 1957 in Dakota, Minn.

He worked at Winona Knitting Mills for forty years, retiring in 2000. He sold insurance through his own company, the Flanigan Insurance Agency, and ran a hobby farm raising beef cattle.

He served as chairman of the Wilson Township Board and was on the Centerville School Board.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Michael (Kristen) Flanigan and Patrick Flanigan, both of Winona; five grandchildren, Jamie (Josh) Vaughn, Michael, Megan, Emma and John Flanigan; two great-granddaughters, Courtney and Tyler Vaughn; a brother, John (Jean) Flanigan of Ellsworth, Wis.; and two sisters, Patricia (Gerald) Anderson of Homer, Minn. and Lucille (Wayne) Habeck of Winona.

He was preceded in death by his parents and Kathleen Nagle.

Funeral services were Monday, December 31 at Martin-Myhre Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Kathy Redig officiating. Burial was in Witoka Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Michael J. Flanigan, Patrick Flanigan, Michael K. Flanigan, Wayne Habeck, John Meinke and Lee Burros.

Budzeak, Phyllis A.
Phyllis A. Budzeak, 70, a resident of St. Anne Hospice, Winona, since December 1999, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, December 22, 2001.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Minnesota City, Minn., with Rev. Ed Cunningham officiating. Her remains will be cremated with a private inurnment to follow at St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery in Minnesota City.

Anderson, Irene O.
Irene O. Anderson, 78, of Buffalo City, Wis., died Friday, December 28, 2001 at Tri-County Memorial Nursing Home in Whitehall, Wis.

A memorial service was held Monday, December 31, at Dr. Martin Luther Church in Buffalo City with Rev. Reed Degener officiating. Burial was in Buffalo City Cemetery.

Beatty, Winnifred M.
Winnifred M. Beatty, 87, of Joelton, Tenn., and formerly of Winona, died Saturday, December 29, 2001.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 3, at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.

Helstad, Frances V.
Frances V. Helstad, 82, of 104 Main St., died Saturday, December 29, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

She was born September 17, 1919 in Arcadia, Wis., to Charles and Anna (Waletski) Nogosek. She married Orvin Zeller. They later divorced. She married Norman S. Helstad on December 2, 1961 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Winona.

Frances was employed at Lake Center Switch until her retirement.

She was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Parish.

Survivors include her husband, Norman of Winona; a son, Gerald (Susan) Zeller of Pickwick, Minn.; two step-daughters, Susan (Dennis) Spaete of Bessemer, Mich. and Barbara Swenson of Cortez, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with Rev. John M. Sauer officiating. Preliminary services will be at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Blair, Wis.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Zeller, Jr., Randy Zeller, Lee Harlos, David Nogosek, Steve Nogosek and Scott Stalboerger.
