Matchey, Ella J.
Ella J. Matchey, 91, of Independence, Wis., died Sunday, December 30, 2001 at Grandview Care Center in Blair, Wis.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, January 4, at Edison Funeral Home in Independence, with Rev. Leonard Kaiser officiating. Burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Cemetery in Independence.
Beatty, Winnifred M.
Winnifred M. Beatty, 87, of Joelton, Tenn., and formerly of Winona, died December 29, 2001 in Joelton.
Winnifred was married to Martin A. Beatty. They had two children.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 3, at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Pellowski, June Bernice
June Bernice Pellowski, 84, of 213 Vine St., died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, with Rev. Daniel Dernek officiating.
Kokott, Joseph P.
Joseph P. Kokott, 98, of Arcadia, Wis., passed away on March 11, 2003, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Nursing Home in Arcadia.
He was born on March 17, 1904, in Korpal Valley, Town of Arcadia, to John and Pauline (Reck) Kokott. On June 19, 1929, Joe married Petronella Kamrowski. She preceded him in death on February 19, 1997.
Joe attended area schools and spent his life in the Arcadia area. He farmed his entire life and loved hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his five children, Joseph Kokott, Joan Nehasil, Jeanette (Gerald) Myers, Lucille (Marcel) Guza, and Patricia (Roland) Kriesel; sixteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and one brother, Alphonse (Evelyn) Kokott.
Preceding Joe in death were his parents, wife, two sisters, Amelia Kupka and Angeline Koval, one brother, John J. Kokott, and two grandsons.
Funeral services and visitation were private.
Serving as Joe's casket bearers were his six granddaughters, Kathy (Gene) Pierzina, Ellen (Bill) Casey, Victoria (Craig) Dunnum, Roxanne (Kall) Patzner, Jennifer Kriesel, and Valeria (Brian) Pierzina..
The Wozney Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Miller, Theodore C. "Ted"
Theodore C. (Ted) Miller, 81, of Franklin, Mass., died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Blaire House of Milford.
Born August 13, 1921, in Franklin, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence T. and Margaret (Robison) Miller.
Ted held degrees from Kenyon College (Ohio) and Harvard University. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Denmark in Copenhagen in 1954-55. He taught at several colleges and universities in the United States including Texas Christian University, Northwestern University, Boston University, the College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn., and St. Norbert College, De Pere, Wis. Ted was also a consultant for the TV series "English for Americans" and the radio program "Words in the News" in the early 1950's.
He leaves a brother, James R. (Margaret) Miller of Winona; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends, the Rev. Alan and Mrs. Marion Cleeton of Franklin, Mass.
A private service was held and burial was at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Mass.
Peterson, Gladys T.
Gladys T. Peterson, 90, of Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, Rushford, Minn., and formerly of Winona, died Friday, March 14, 2003, at the Good Shepherd Home.
She was born on the family farm in Fillmore County, Minn., on March 30, 1912, to John and Hilda (Smestad) Dragvold. Gladys married Gilbert Peterson. He preceded her in death in 1971.
Mr. Peterson was a construction worker, and because of that, she resided with him as he worked in the state of Washington, coming to Winona in 1950, and living here until her recent move to the Good Shepherd Home.
She was a homemaker and a long time member of Central Lutheran Church, Winona.
She is survived by her sons, Mark (Betty) Peterson, Hopkins, Minn., and Peter (Kendra) Peterson, Rochester, Minn.; grandchildren, Brock Peterson, Minneapolis, Minn., Dane Peterson, Rochester, Lindsey, Brett and Jenna Peterson, Hopkins, Minn.; sisters, Charlotte Larson, Rushford, and Verna (Richard) Kadrea, Minnetonka, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Mavis Dragvold, Rishford, MN.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Rebecca Peterson, two brothers, James and Herbert Dragvold, and two sisters, Hildegard Ryan and Josie Knutson.
A celebration of Gladys's life was held on Tuesday, March 18, at Central Lutheran Church, Winona, with Rev. Scott Olson officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Casket bearers were her grandchildren.
Memorial gifts may be directed to Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, Rushford, Minn.

Leahy, Audrey M.
Audrey M. Leahy, 83, of Cochrane, Wis., died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at St. Michael's Lutheran Home, Fountain City, Wis.
She was born July 25, 1919, in Hutchinson, Minn., the only child of Volney and Laura (Hoodecheck) Ames. She spent her childhood in Minocqua, Wis., and graduated from Minocqua High School in 1937. She attended Whitewater State University, where she met Ralph Leahy. They were married August 27, 1938, at Waterford, Wis. They later divorced.
Audrey spent most of her life as a mother and homemaker. She had worked as a nurse's aid, waitress, and teacher's aid, spending most of her life in the Cochrane, Buffalo City and Pepin, Wis., area.
She was a lifelong member of the Eastern Star Chapter 249 OES.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary (Dave) Siefert of Taylor, Wis.; four sons, Patrick (Ruth) Leahy of Buffalo City, Wis., Mike (Judy) Leahy of Minocqua, Wis., Tim (Georgia) Leahy of Cottage Grove, Minn., and Kevin (Jemay) Leahy of Buffalo City; twelve grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, twin great-grandchildren, and her parents.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at the J.S. Wozney Funeral Chapel in Cochrane, with Rev. Joel Bacon officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Woodruff, Wis., on July 24.
Friends may call from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel in Cochrane.
Memorials are preferred to St. Michael's Lutheran Home in Fountain City, Wis.

Bennett, Josephine A.
Josephine A. Bennett, 78, Waseca, Minn., died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Waseca Medical Center.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at McRaith Funeral Home in Waseca, with Rev. Roger Haug officiating.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 24, at St. Elizabeth's Parish Center in Eureka Springs, Ark. Burial will follow in the Gaskins Switch Cemetery in Eureka Springs.
Lindquist, Yvonne T.
Yvonne T. Lindquist, 81, Winona, died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn., after a long illness.
Yvonne was born January 16, 1922, in Minneapolis, Minn., and graduated from St. Louis Park High School in 1940. She attended secretarial school and became a private secretary. On March 15, 1947, she married William A. Lindquist, and they made their home in Winona.
In 1961, Yvonne went to work for KAGE in Winona and eventually became well-known for her "Party Line" program which she had for 39 years, one of the longest continuous radio programs in the state. She also hosted the "Casual Conversations" and "Apple Time" programs for many years. She was a past office holder for the American Women in Radio and Television. Through the years she emceed events ranging from Miss Winona Pageants to horse shows and style shows. She also used to teach a class on self-improvement at the YWCA and was active in the Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Girl Scouts. Illness forced her retirement in July 2001.
She is survived by her husband, William; four daughters, Christine (Mario) Adrianni, Rebecca Lindquist, Jennifer (Bruce) Brokaw, and Amy Lindquist; five grandchildren, Izaak Parker, Lukas Parker, Wesley (Kristi) Brokaw, Jessica Brokaw and Ryan Brokaw; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew Brokaw and Madison Brokaw.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Marlin and Richard Lee.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 19, from 5-7 p.m. at Martin-Myhre Funeral Home. Cremation and private interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Budnick, Eleanor Frances
Eleanor Frances Budnick, 99, formerly of 1012 East Ninth St., died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Lake Winona Manor.
She was born February 19, 1904, in Independence, Wis., to Peter P. and Julia (Kokott) Marsolek. She married Frank J. Budnick on August 7, 1931, in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. He died February 1, 1988.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish.
Eleanor was an excellent homemaker for her family and had worked as a maid for the Tearse family. She loved her family, life, and enjoyed playing bingo.
She is survived by a son, Frank Budnick, of Winona; a daughter, Sophie Walski, of Winona; nineteen grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Eleanor Barbian and Jo Speltz, one son, Robert Marsolek, three brothers and six sisters.
Private burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Eleanor was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to all. She will be deeply missed. She is now an angel among us.
