Holm, Arba B.

Arba B. Holm, 94, of Hillcrest Care Center in Plainview, a retired St. Charles area farmer, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at the Care Center.
Arba was born June 29, 1908, in St. Charles Township of Winona County to Otto and Mildred (Waby) Holm. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1926 and lived near St. Charles most of his life. Arba had traveled with Bert Hanson's show cattle to large fall shows in Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Illinois. He and Esther Green were married on December 1, 1930, in Winona.
Esther and Arba were breeders of Polled shorthorn cattle for 65 years; they were members of the American Shorthorn Association. He served as president and a director of the Minnesota Polled Shorthorn Assn., was a past chairman of the Saratoga School District, and a leader of the Saratoga Challengers 4-H Club. He also was a township assessor for 15 years and sold seed corn. Arba and Esther spent four years managing herds of Shorthorns in Georgia, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky, readying herds for dispersal herds.
Survivors include five children, Keith Holm of Riceville, Iowa; Roland (Edith) Holm of St. Charles; Gary (Julia-Ann) Holm of Winona; Kathleen (Gerald) Walters of Plainview and Steven (DeAnn) Holm of St. Charles, 22 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, a brother, Kenneth Holm of Utica, and a sister, Opal Newell of Stillwater. In addition to his wife, Esther, who died March 30, 1993, three grandchildren and a sister have died.
Funeral Services was 1:30 p.m. Monday at Hoff Funeral Home's - St. Charles Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Melby officiating. Burial followed in Saratoga Cemetery in rural St. Charles.

Lyons, Lydia L.
Oct. 8, 1902 - Dec. 17, 2002

Memorial services for Lydia L. Lyons, 100, of Winona, and formerly of Elgin, Ill., Green Bay, Wis., and Mason City, Iowa, will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, Winona, Minn. Rev. Rick King will officiate.
Lydia died Dec. 17, 2002, at Lake Winona Manor, Winona, Minn.
She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis A. Marston, Winona, Minn.; grandchildren, Lenore (Gary) Hegland, Denise Brewster (Bob Hemerick), Victoria (Tom) Schmidt, Lori (Jerome) Anderson, Douglas (Debra) Marston, and Craig (Terri) Marston; greatgrandchildren, Dawnyell, Lyon, Kristyn, Logan, Jacob, Josh, Joseph, Jonathon, James, Aaron, Kyle, Nicholas and Jessica; great-great-grandchildren, L.J., Devon, Charisse and Kierstyn.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Bruce H. Lyons, and two brothers, Alexander and William Paton. A son-in-law, Dwight H. Marston, died in Feb. 2003.
Interment of her cremated remains will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.
Memorial gifts may be given to First Congregational Church or to Lake Winona Manor, both of Winona.

Marston, Dwight H.
Nov. 6, 1928 - Feb. 20, 2003

Dwight H. Marston, of Winona, died February 20, 2003, in Mesa, Arizona. Dwight was born November 6, 1928, in Postville, Iowa, to Euclid C. Marston and Marie Danner Marston.
On August 12, 1950, he married Phyllis A. Lyons at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, Iowa. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1953.
Dwight was a teacher and coach in secondary and higher education. He was the Director of Athletics at Winona State University for twenty-five years (1966-1991).
Dwight is survived by his wife, Phyllis Marston of Winona, Minn.; two sons, Douglas (Debbie) Marston and Craig (Terri) Marston; three grandchildren, Kyle, Nicholas and Jessica Marston; two brothers, Joseph (Blanche) Marston and Craig Marston; two sisters, Jean (Al) Lopez and Virginia Douglas. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services for Dwight will be held at First Congregational Church, Winona, on Saturday, April 5, 2003, at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Rick King officiating.
Interment of his cremated remains will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to the Dwight Marston Scholarship Fund, Winona State University Foundation, P.O. Box 5838, Winona, MN 55987.

Rasmussen, Larry A.

Larry Allan Rasmussen, 55, of Minnesota City, Minn., died Friday, March 28, 2003, in the emergency room of Community Memorial Hospital, Winona. Larry was born in St. Paul, Minn., on July 5, 1947, to Donald and Constance (Rosenbush) Rasmussen.
He married Paula Fluegel in St. Paul, Minn., on Jan. 11, 1968. Larry was a U.S. Navy veteran; member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, and was an active parent and volunteer at the Riverway Learning Community in Minnesota City, Minn.
He retired about a year ago, prior to that he had worked for five years at Benchmark Electronics, previous to that as a chemical dependency counselor with Fransican Skemp Healthcare-Behavorial Health Services. He had also worked in various mechanical jobs in automotive and maintenance work, both in St. Paul and in Winona.
Larry was a kind loving man, who was always there when someone needed him. He had a "hearing" ear, ready to listen to anyone.
He is survived by his wife, Paula; sons, Grant of Mesa, Ariz., Lars of Winona, and Douglas "Sonny" at home; three brothers, James (Vonnie) Hoschette, New Brighton, Minn., Brian Hoschette, St. Paul, Minn., and Philip (Sandi) Hoschette, White Bear Lake, Minn.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Joseph.
Funeral services for Larry will be on Thursday, April 3, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. at the Fawcett- Junker Funeral Home, Elder Stephen Rudnik of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses presiding. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m.
Memorial gifts may be directed to Riverway Learning Community, 115 Iowa St., Minnesota City, MN, 55959.

Calvert, Lucas Joe

Lucas Joe Calvert, age 21, of Minnesota City, was called home on Monday, January 13, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.
Lucas was born on February 15, 1981, in LaCrosse, Wis., to Ronald Joe and Sherry Ann (McClure) Calvert. He graduated from Winona Senior High in 1999 and was currently a senior at Winona State University where he was applying to medical schools.
He worked part-time at Econo Foods, Winona, as a Shift Manager.
He was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Winona, and was a camp counselor and first-aid staff at Lake Wapogasset Lutheran Bible Camp (Wapo).
He is survived by his parents, Ron and Sherry Calvert, Minnesota City; his fiancée, Anne Osberg, Amery, Wis.; a twin brother, Jacob Calvert, Minnesota City; a sister Jessica Calvert (fiancé Cris Marish), Winona; paternal grandfather, Jack Calvert, Fort Dodge, Iowa, and other relatives.
He encouraged organ donation and donated all that they could take so that several lives were touched and saved. Please remember these families in your prayers as well.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Joan Calvert and maternal grandparents, Donald and Elma McClure.
Memorial services were Friday, January 17, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Central Lutheran Church, Winona, with Rev. Michelle Rem and Rev. Wade Davick, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to donor's choice. (Lake Wapogasset camper scholarship encouraged).
Funeral arrangements were made by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.
Lucas' life was full of joy and love for the people around him. He enjoyed camp, playing and coaching football, working on the farm, learning to be a doctor, acting like a kid, and being with his family, friends, and fiancée. Lucas had fond memories of the friends he was with in football, H.O.P.E., Tri-Beta, Pre-Med club, Youth Group, N.H.S., chess club, school, work, and camp. Lucas marked Philippians 2:14 in his Bible and his life truly shined the light of Christ. He was "called to belong to Christ" and was "convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God." -Romans. Lucas once wrote "God is our Father, and our home is with Him." Lucas loved you all because God loves us all. Lucas is at home and he wants to see you there.

Ladewig, Elmer Earl

Elmer Earl Ladewig, 78, of Rt. 1, Winona, died Tuesday, January 14, 2003, in the emergency room of Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.
He was born in Stockton on May 23, 1924, the son of Elmer A. and Luella M. (Heublein) Ladewig. He spent his entire life on the Ladewig farm raising Black Angus beef cattle, of which he was very proud. He was a good supporter of his family.
Elmer is survived by a brother, Lester Ladewig, Stockton, MN.; a sister, Ramona (Dr. Leon) English, Winona; a sister-in-law, Lois Ladewig, Stockton; a life-long friend, Beverly Ross, Winona; nephews, Leslie (Juanita) Ladewig, Larry (Erin) Ladewig, and Lance Ladewig; nieces, Nancy (Dean) Fritz and LeAnne (Jeff) Morey. He is also survived by grand nieces and nephews.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Lyle.
Funeral services for Elmer were on Friday, January 17, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at the Fawcett- Junker Funeral Home, Rev. Mary Hurmence, Central United Methodist Church, Winona, officiating. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery, Stockton, MN.
Casket bearers were Larry and Leslie Ladewig, Jeff Morey, Allyn Ellinghuysen, Dr. Leon English and Dean Fritz.

Luedtke, Kenneth W.

Kenneth Walter Luedtke, 64, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2003, at his home with family at his side.
Kenneth was born in Rushford, Minn., on October 9, 1938, to Walter and LaVerne (Feine) Luedtke. He married Darlene Smith on January 17, 1959, in Winona.
Kenneth was employed as a bridge inspector for the Minnesota Department of Transportation for 35 years, retiring in April 1996.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene; daughters, Deborah (Brian) Moran, Winona, Minn., Wanda (Ryan) Abts, Galesville, Wis.; sons, Michael (Kelly) Luedtke, Cottage Grove, Minn., and Jim (Nancy) Luedtke, Onalaska, Wis., grandchildren, Tim, Tyler, Megan, Ashley, Amanda, Zachary, Michael, Jennifer, Sarah, Jacob, Abbey and Allsyon, his parents, Walter and LaVerne Luedtke, Winona; mother-in-law, Anastasia Smith, Winona; three sisters, Sandrea (David) Matzke, Owatonna, Minn., Judith (Thomas) Christopherson, Lewiston, Minn., Vicki (Charles) Andring, Winona; two brothers, Gary (Gloria) Luedtke, Spring Lake Park, Minn. and David (Nariko) Luedtke, San Antonia, Tex.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melissa Moran, father-in-law, Bernard Smith and a sister-in-law, Nancy Schroht.
Kenneth was a loving husband, father and grandpa. He will be remembered for his love of woodworking, his picture-perfect lawn, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, traveling, his sense of humor, easy going personality and his kindness to others.
A celebration of Kenneth's life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Chaplain Patrick Plunkett officiating. Friends may call at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8p.m., then on Saturday till time of services.
A memorial is being arranged.

Peck, Lyle C.

Lyle C. Peck, 79, died Thursday, January 16, 2003, at Whitewater Health Care Center in St. Charles, Minn.
Lyle was born September 20, 1923, in Laurel, Neb., to Claude and Agnes (Yarolinek) Peck. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was in the European Theater. On May 10, 1947, he married Marjorie Becker in Chatfield, Minn. She died October 23, 1999.
Lyle was a lifelong farmer in the St. Charles area. He also worked for Saratoga Creamery, Chatfield Hardware Store, St. Charles Feed Mill, and Olstad Implement in Chatfield. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW in St. Charles.
Lyle, who thoroughly enjoyed visiting with folks and being sociable, will be lovingly remembered for his love of hunting and fishing, how he broke horses for people around the St. Charles area, and how he enjoyed cutting wood and woodworking.
Survivors include his three daughters, Barbara Peck of Elgin, Minn., Ruth Spitzer of St. Charles, and Andrea Peck (Dave Evans) of St. Charles; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Frances (Ron) Pieper of Renton, Wash., Arlene (Chuck) Pederson of Rushford, Minn., and JoAnn (Don) Thoe of Sargeant, Minn.
His parents, wife, Marjorie, infant twin sons, and two sisters, Beverly and Sharon, preceded Lyle in death.
Funeral services are planned for Monday, January 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Hart officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Dover, Minn., where the St. Charles American Legion and VFW will conduct military honors. Friends may call at Hoff Funeral Homes - St. Charles Chapel on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
Hoff Funeral Homes - St. Charles Chapel is assisting with the arrangements.

Radke, Henrietta E.

Henrietta E. Radke, 89, of 602 West Sarnia St., died Thursday, January 16, 2003, at Winona Community Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 30, 1913, in Winona, to Leo and Victoria (Walczak) Pellowski. She married Albert Radke on November 26, 1948, in Milwaukee, Wis. He has died.
She was a member of St. Casimir's Parish.
Henrietta was a loving mother and aunt, and will be remembered for her kind and caring ways. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include a son, Donald Trester of Winona; a sister, Dolores Banicki of Winona; and nieces and nephews from both the Radke and Pellowski families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, her parents, two sisters, Florence Pellowski and Dorothy Ramczyk, and two brothers, Bobby and David Pellowski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday, January 20, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church, with Rev. James W. Hennessy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at the church. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Scott and George Braunreiter, Tom, Mark and Gary Pellowski, and Chris Bernatz.
A Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Service.
