Harris, Richard LaVern

Richard LaVern Harris, age 86, of Bluff Siding, Wisc., died on Sunday, Janaury 12, 2003, at Lake Winona Manor.
Richard was born on May 26, 1916, in Parker, South Dakota, to John and Clara (Sleep) Harris. On October 6, 1940, he married Marjorie Schniepp at St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church, Winona, and she preceded him in death on April 20, 1996.
He was employed at various foundries in the area for 43 years. He retired in 1982 from Badger Foundry, Winona.
He was a member of St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church and of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Richard was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to play and listen to music.
He is surivived by two sons, Keith (Kay) Harris, Centerville, Wis., and Gary Harris, Chandler, Ariz.; three grandchildren: Amie (Greg Stow) Harris, Brent Harris and Holly (Jason) Harris-Meierhofer; one sister Olive (Al) Sherman, Madison, Wis., and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marjorie, grandson, Steven, one brother and one sister.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 16, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Winona with Rev. James D. Nelson, officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Fountain City Public Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 15, 2003, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona and at the church on Thursday starting at 1:00 p.m.

Grebin, James Thomas

Jim was born Augsut 10, 1965, in Austin to Thomas and Cleo (Jirele) Grebin. He graduated from Austin Pacelli High School in 1984, where he was involved in athletics and was part of the state championship track and field team in 1983 and 1984. He graduated from University of Northern Iowa in 1988 with a degree in Power, Energy and Technology.
Jim and Sheri Suther were married June 10, 1989, in Perry, Iowa, moving to St. Charles in 1990. He worked as a Process Engineer for Rochester Medical Services of Stewartville.
Jim belonged to Heartland Community Church of St. Charles and was recently appointed to the St. Charles Library Board. He was devoted to his family and to kids. He loved the outdoors; fishing and hiking. Jim had an appreciated sense of humor, he liked people and enjoyed the chance to BS.
Survivors include his wife, Sheri, and son, Brooks, both at home, parents, Tom and Cleo Grebin of Austin, three sisters, Cathy (Tim) Duren of Austin; Mary (Warren) Granthan of St. Paul and Joan Grebin of St. Louis Park and paternal grandmother Genevieve Grebin of Austin.

Grebin, Marie Catherine

Marie was born March 10, 1995, in Rochester to Jim and Sheri Grebin. Marie was currently a second grader at St. Charles Elementary School, in Miss Varnum's class. She had a love for Jesus, her brothers and her family. Marie loved to sing, draw and make things. She adored her mom, loved school; she was a light that shone to everyone.
Survivors include her mom, Sheri, and a brother, Brooks, both at home, paternal grandparents, Tom and Cleo Grebin of Austin, maternal grandparents, Jerry and Dee Suther of Panora, Iowa, paternal great-grandmother Genevieve Grebin of Austin and maternal great-grandmother Laura Dekat of Manhattan, Kansas.

Grebin, Mark James

Mark was born August 15, 1997, in Rochester to Jim and Sheri Grebin. He attended St. Matthew Lutheran preschool and Pat Mohs' daycare in St. Charles. Mark was a very active boy. He had a mischievous grin and a tender heart. He loved being with his family; was happy, brave and tough. Like his dad, Mark loved the outdoors, and like his sister, loved Jesus.
Survivors include his mom, Sheri, and a brother, Brooks, both at home, paternal grandparents, Tom and Cleo Grebin of Austin, maternal grandparents, Jerry and Dee Suther of Panora, Iowa, paternal great-grandmother Genevieve Grebin of Austin and maternal great-grandmother Laura Dekat of Manhattan, Kansas.

Boehmke, Mildred L.

Mildred L. Boehmke, 88, of Lewiston died Saturday, January 11, 2003, at the Winona Community Memorial Hospital in Winona, Minn. She was born on December 6, 1914, in Hart Township of Winona County to Rudolph and Alvina (Oldendorf) Wenzel. She was raised in the Hart area and attended the German School there through the eighth grade. Mildred was confirmed at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Hart on May 27, 1928. On December 16, 1933, she was united in marriage with Harry Boehmke. Harry died in November of 1993. She farmed with her husband in Wilson and Warren Township until moving to Lewiston in 1975. Mildred entered the Sauer Memorial Home in Winona in 1999. Her interests included needlework, embroidery, crafts, and playing bingo at the nursing home. She is survived by one daughter, Betty (Robert) Faas of Winona; two sons: Richard (Hattie) Boehmke of Jackson, Mich. and Kenneth (Mary) Boehmke of Rushford, Minn.; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers: Alvin and Clarence, and one sister in infancy. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wilson, Minn., with the Rev. Paul C. Stratman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Hoff Funeral Homes ­ Lewiston Chapel, where there will be an 8:00 p.m. prayer service, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. The family prefers memorials to be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church or to the Sauer Memorial Home.

Wieland, Martha L.

Martha L. Wieland, 87, of Arcadia, Wis., passed away on Tuesday, January 07, 2003, at the Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Nursing Home in Arcadia.
She was born March 8, 1915, in the Town of Modena, Buffalo County, Wis., to Martin and Ragnild (Aasen) Thompson. On December 14, 1935, Martha married Herbert Wieland at the Lyster Parsonage in the Town of Modena. He passed away on August 10, 1990.
Martha attended the Church Valley School and graduated with Third Honor. She was a member of the Lyster Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid Society. She was also a member of the sewing circle and the Bob-O-Link Homemakers and was active in the 4-H Club.
Martha is survived by 1 daughter: Helen Gierok of Independence, Wis.; 2 grandchildren: Holly Gierok of Eau Claire, Wis., Barry Gierok of Independence, Wis.; 1 great-grandson: Thomas Gierok of Whitehall, Wis.; 2 sisters: Regina Brommer of Urne, Wis., Elsie Sveen of Durand, Wis.; 2 sister-in-laws: Louise Thompson of Ypsilanti, Mich., Gladys Thompson of Nelson, Wis.; 2 Godchildren: Theresa Zastrow of Arcadia, Kathleen Reick of Nelson; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
Preceding Martha in death were her parents: Martin and Ragnild Thompson; husband: Herbert Wieland; 7 sisters and brothers: Anna Thompson, Thomas Thompson, Martha Thompson, Amelia Brommer, Louise Thompson, Leslie Thompson, Clara Wieland; and 1 son-in-law: Anthony Gierok.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2003, at Christ Lutheran Church in Arcadia, with Rev. Arthur Sharot officiating. Burial will be in the Waumandee Public Cemetery, Waumandee, Wis.
Friends may call from noon until 1:00 p.m. Saturday, at the church.
Serving as casket bearers will be Linus Zastrow, LaVerne Wieland, Jr., Rodney Brommer, Sidney Borreson, Donald Wieland, and Thomas Wieland. Honorary bearers will be Arvin, Olgar, Larry, Gary, Marvin, and David Thompson, Duane, Roger, and David Wieland, Ronald Sveen, Bergie Ritscher, and Tony's Place Card Players.
Martha's family respectfully asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to "Family Wishes".

Flemming, Steven Eric

Steven Eric Flemming, 57, of Fountain City, Wis., died Monday, January 6, 2003, at the VA Hospital in Madison, Wis.
He was born July 23, 1945, in Winona, to Richard F. and Georgia (Erickson) Flemming. He married Jane Mary Lipinski on June 22, 1968, in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.
He attended St. Mary's Grade School, graduated from Cotter High School in 1963, and graduated from St. Mary's College in 1972.
He worked as a security examiner for the U.S. Treasury Department from 1973-1974. He began plumbers apprentice training in September 1975, and obtained a Master Plumber's license in 1981. Steven was a member of Rochester Local #6, Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, Veterans of Foreign Wars Neville-Lien Post #1287, and American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post #9.
He joined the Marine Corps in August of 1963, and served in Vietnam from 1965-1966, as field radio operator, and was honorably discharged in September 1966.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Flemming of Fountain City; a son, Eric (Sara) Flemming of St. Charles, Minn.; a daughter, Leigh Flemming of Fountain City; two grandchildren, Cedric and Piper; his mother, Georgia Flemming of Winona; and a sister, Paula (Joe) Kotlarz of Winona.
He was preceded in death by his father on November 12, 2000, and a brother, Richard, on February 12, 1986.
A Memorial Mass was offered Friday, January 10, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with Rev. Daniel R. Dernek officiating. The American Legion conducted military honors following the service at the church.

Adank, Lionel T.

Lionel T. Adank Jr., 68, of Fountain City, Wis., died Monday, January 6, 2003, at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.
Private family memorial services were held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fountain City, with Rev. John Parr officiating.

Blank, Harry J.

Harry J. Blank, 91, of 120 Hamilton St., died Wednesday, January 8, 2003, at his home.
He was born December 7, 1911, in Winona, to Catherine Blank. He married Florence M. Szewel on June 10, 1946, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Winona.
He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Harry served in the U.S. Army during World War II for 4 years.
He was employed at Peerless Chain Company for 35 years, retiring in 1974. He was an avid hunter and fisherman his whole life, and did commercial fishing after his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; a daughter, Janice (Robert) Hoppe of Goodview, Minn.; a son, Ronald (Doreen) Blank of Goodview; a grandson, Brian (Amy) Heuer of Trempealeau, Wis.; three granddaughters, Jennifer, Jocelyn, and Jillian Blank of Goodview; and a great-granddaughter, Paige Heuer of Trempealeau.
His mother preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 13, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, with Rev. Daniel R. Dernek officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, with military honors provided by the American Legion.
Visitation will be on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of the Mass at the church.
Pallbearers will be members of the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post #9.

Bowers, Larry H.

Larry H. Bowers, 68, of Rt. 3, Winona (Witoka), died Wednesday, January 8, 2003, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, LaCrosse, Wis.
Larry was born on January 21, 1934, in Lancaster County, Penn., to Elder and Alma Krenzer Bowers. He graduated from high school in Lancaster County and served his country in Korea while in the U.S. Air Force. He married Marilyn Turner on September 3, 1953, in Winona.
He lived in Cedar Rapids and Quad Cities, Iowa, and Buffalo City, Wis., for eleven years. He worked as an electrician and truck driver. He moved to Witoka in 1985 and purchased the Witoka Tavern. He also established the Mar-Lar Boarding Kennels with his wife in Witoka.
He is a member of the VFW of Cochrane-Buffalo City and the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; children, Marianne (Charles) Barstow of Algonquin, Ill., John Bowers of Witoka, Becky (Gaylin Eide) Bowers of Witoka, and Vicki Bowers, St. Paul; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Peter Constine of Mt. Wolf, Penn.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services were held Saturday, January 11, at Martin-Myhre Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Wade Davick officiating. Burial was in Witoka Cemetery.
Martin-Myhre Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.

Smith, Wilfred "Willie"

Wilfred "Willie" Smith, 90, of Trempealeau, Wis., and formerly of Dodge, Wis., died Tuesday, January 7, 2003, at Marinuka Manor in Galesville, Wis.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 13, at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Trempealeau, with Father Robert Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
