Moen, Gloria L.

Gloria L. Moen, 75, Alta Loma, Calif., died Sunday, January 5, 2003, at her home.
Arrangements are pending.

Leitzen, Galen J.
Galen J. Leitzen, 82, of Houston, Minn., died Monday, January 6, 2002, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Houston. Galen was born on May 8, 1920, in Nora Township of Jo Daviess County, Illinois, to Matthew and Nellie (Rhodes) Leitzen. He was raised in Illinois. He married Wynetta Calhoun in 1940. They were later divorced. He moved to Houston in 1968, the same year that he married Lois Dascher. Lois died in 1974. Galen was a lifelong farmer in both Illinois and the Houston area. He is survived by three sons: Ron (Linda) Leitzen of Johnston City, Ill., Ray (Alice) Leitzen of Houston, Minn. and Wayne Leitzen of Epworth, Iowa; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one brother, Marvin Leitzen and one sister Helen (Harlan) Fritz. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one brother, Melvin. There was a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, at Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton, Ill. Hoff Funeral Homes ­ Houston Chapel assisted the family with funeral arrangements.

Johnson, Mabel

Mrs. Mabel (James) Johnson, age 98, of Winona, died on Wednesday, January 8, 2003, at Saint Anne Extended Health Care, Winona.
Mabel was born on August 2, 1904, in Arendahl Township, Fillmore County, Minn., to Hans and Mary (Johnson) Torgerson. She graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1921 and then attended Teacher's Training at Red Wing Seminary, Red Wing, Minn., and graduated in 1922. She also attended several summer sessions at Winona State University. On September 2, 1939, she married James E. Johnson at the Lutheran Parsonage in Peterson, Minn. He died on March 30, 1972.
Mabel taught in rural schools of Fillmore, Houston, Ottertail and Kanabec Counties. She last taught under Superintendent Esther Boyd in Kanabec County and retired from teaching in 1963.
She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Winona, and a member of its Ladies Bible Class.
Mabel is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James, six sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be Sunday, January 12, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Winona, with Rev. William Flesh, officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Visitation will be Sunday at the church beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Casket bearers will be Myron Berge, Glen Gilbertson, Jack Williams, Ervin Boehm, Dennis Johnson and Donald Johnson.
Funeral arrangements completed by Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

Gravos, Gerald A.

Gerald A. Gravos, 69, of Rushford, died Monday, January 6, 2002, at his home. Gerald was born on June 1, 1933, to Palmer and Myrtle (Paulson) Gravos in LaCrosse, Wis. He was raised in the Highland Prairie area and graduated from Rushford High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. Gerald married Lillian Luhmann on June 16, 1957, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hart, Minn. He worked at Northern States Power for 32 years, retiring in 1991. His work as a part-time farmer was his passion. Gerald and Lillian moved from their farm in Bratsberg to Rushford in December of 2000. He was a member of the Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Peterson. Gerald is survived by his wife, Lillian, his aunts and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral service was at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Peterson with the Rev. Wade Davick officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hoff Funeral Homes ­Rushford Chapel. The family prefers memorials to be directed to the ALS Association Minnesota Chapter.

Adank, Lionel T. Jr.

Lionel T. Adank, Jr., 68, of Fountain City, WI., went to his heavenly home on Monday, January 6, 2003, at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona, with his family at his side.
He was born on March 14, 1934, in the Town of Glencoe, Buffalo County, Wis., to Lionel and Anna (Maier) Adank. Lionel attended Arcadia schools and was a Mass server at Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia. He served in the Wisconsin National Guard for a number of years.
He first worked as a driver for Weiss Construction of Arcadia; then as a sandblaster and painter for the U.S. Corp of Engineers. Following that he was employed by Warner- Sweazy, which became Badger Construction in Winona as a painter until retiring in 1996.
On June 9, 1956, he married Lorene L. Lash at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Arcadia, Wis.
He is a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fountain City; the Dodge Sportsman Club and the Arcadia Coon Club. Lionel enjoyed cooking wild game for parties. He was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman. He loved singing and playing his guitar.
Lionel is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lorene; son, Lonnie of Fountain City; a daughter, Lisa Schlink, of Winona; grandsons, Joshua Baumann and Jason Barum; brothers, Eugene (Mary) Adank, Arcadia, Wis., and Linus (Julie) Adank, Winona and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Steven, a daughter, Audrey and a brother, William. He was a loving husband and father and will be missed dearly. You will always be loved and in our prayers.
Private family memorial services were held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Fountain City, WI., Rev. John Parr officiated.
Do not grieve or weep for me. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints of snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the soft stars that shine at night. So do not cry, I did not die.

Banicki, Dolores V.

Dolores V. Banicki, 84, of 627 West Fourth St., died Wednesday, February 5, 2003, at Lake Winona Manor.
She was born April 17, 1918, to Leo and Victoria (Walczak) Pellowski. She married Frank D. Banicki on March 7, 1949, at St. Casimir's Church in Winona. He died May 8, 1996.
She was a supervisor at Filter Supply Co., where she had worked for 50 years, and later ran Dolores' Outlet Store until she retired.
Dolores was a member of St. Casimir's Parish and its Quilters Guild, as well as the Polish Heritage Society. She was active in the many activities of her church. She also loved the river and enjoyed spending time fishing and being at the cottage.
She will be remembered by her nieces and nephews and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law who survive her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank, two brothers, Bobby and David Pellowski, and three sisters, Florence Pellowski, Dorothy Ramczyk and Henrietta Radke.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, February 8, at St. Casimir's Church, with Rev. James H. Hennessy officiating. Entombment was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chris Bernatz, Mark Pellowski, Tom and Dick Brang, Rick Podjaski and John Rozek.

Blaskowski, Bernard T.

Bernard T. Blaskowski, 90, of 870-39th Avenue, Goodview, Minn., died Thursday, February 6, 2003, at Lake Winona Manor.
He was born April 6, 1912, in Fried, N.D., to John and Frances (Blaskowski) Sabinash. He married Esther A. Bernaski on February 17, 1951, in Chicago, Ill. She died August 21, 1984. Bernard later married Anna (Albrecht) Lange on February 6, 1987.
He was employed with the Northwestern Railroad for 23 years, and for the City of Winona until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Parish.
Bernard was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Anna, of Goodview; a daughter, Diane Elhard, of Jamestown, N.D.; a son Dennis (Pat) Blaskowski, of Roseville, Minn.; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Robert (Laurel) Lange, of Utica, Minn., and Ronald (Dawn) Lange, of Lewiston, Minn.; two stepdaughters, Rita (Jon) Douglas, and Rhonda (Ron, Sr.) Westphal, both of Lewiston, Minn.; fifteen stepgrandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends living in North Dakota and Winona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, Esther.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday, February 10, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Msgr. Roy E. Literski officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home. A Christian Wake Service will be held Sunday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Mike, Matthew and Daniel Blaskowski, Denise Scheer, Ron Westphal, Sr., and Jon Douglas.

Safranek, Bernice H.

Bernice H. Safranek, 81, died Friday, February 7, 2003, at Sauer Memorial Home.
Bernice was born May 19, 1921, in Winona, to Benjamin and Helen Riebau Safranek. She graduated from Winona Senior High School.
She is a member of St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She worked at Winona State University, retiring in January of 1984.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include good friends, Stanley and Florence Knopick, and several cousins.
Funeral services will be Sunday, February 9, at 1 p.m. at Martin-Myhre Funeral Chapel, with Rev. David Henslin officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday at the funeral home after noon.

Stellpflug, Elizabeth "Betty"

Elizabeth "Betty" Stellpflug, 67, of Trempealeau, Wis., died Thursday, February 6, 2003, at Franciscan Skemp Health Care Center in LaCrosse, Wis.
Betty was born January 13, 1936, in Winona. She attended area schools. On November 13, 1954, she married Donald Stellpflug in Trempealeau.
She is survived by her husband, of Trempealeau; children, Ronald (Tammi) Addleman, of Holmen, Wis., Lonnie (Nancy) Stellpflug, of Galesville, Wis., Laurie Nickitopoulous, of Galesville, Lyn (Nancy Theisen) Stellpflug, of Arcadia, Wis., and Les (Stacy) Stellpflug, of Trempealeau; ten grandchildren: Connie (Mike), Chad (Tara), Clint, Nathan, Dylan, Trever, Dustin, Alyssa, Roger, and Tracy; two brothers, Lawarence Addleman of Minnesota; LeeRoy Addleman of Texas; a sister, Sharon Beck of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Kyle, one brother, and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 10, at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Trempealeau, with Father Robert Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Trempealeau. It was her wish to be cremated.

Lilla, Sarah S.

Sarah S. Lilla, 102, died Tuesday, February 4, 2003, at Alterra Sterling House, Winona.
She was born October 27, 1900, in Dodge, Wis., to John and Mary (Cebula) Lilla. She married Vincent L. Lilla on September 29, 1924, in Winona. He died December 29, 1993.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish and its Rosary and Sacred Heart Societies, St. Anne's Guild, and the Polish Heritage Society.
Sarah was a loving mother and grandmother and will be remembered by her nieces and nephews as a caregiver.
She is survived by a daughter, Mildred (Stanley) Wachowiak of Winona; a granddaughter, Mary (Michael) Linak of Madison, Wis.; and two great-grandchildren, Kathryn and Matt Linak.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a great-grandchild, Jennifer, four brothers and four sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, February 7, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, with Rev. Daniel R. Dernek officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and Winona Area Hospice Service.
