Meier, Robert A. "Bob"

Robert A. "Bob" Meier, 82, of Goodview, Minn., died Friday, September 13, 2002 at Community Memorial Hospital.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 19, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Pietsch, Freda J.

Freda J. Pietsch, 103, of Lake Winona Manor, died Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at the manor.
She was born July 14, 1899 near Sugar Loaf in Winona. She married Otto Paul Pietsch who is deceased. They had two children.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 21, at 11 a.m. at Central Lutheran Church, Winona. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the church.

Meier, Robert

March 27, 1920 - September 13, 2002
Bob Meier, 82, of 4550 West 8th Street, Goodview, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002 at Community Memorial Hospital after a brief illness with cancer. He was born on March 27, 1920 in Winona to August and Caroline (Brushoff) Meier.
He is a 1937 graduate of Cotter High School. On Oct. 30, 1943 he married Ruth Hengel in San Diego, CA. Bob served his country from 1942 to 1945 in the US Navy, where he attained the rank of Aviation Radioman First Class. After serving in California and Florida, he and Ruth returned to Winona where he sold insurance for Met Life and for the Catholic Aid Association. He also was a securties salesman, retiring in 1982.
Bob was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, where he has served as an usher for 65 years; he is a 56-year member of American Legion Post #9, Winona; Knights of Columbus Council #639; Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #1243; Winona Athletic Club; and Westfield Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth; daughters, Jane (Jim) Schneider, Marjorie Meier, Mary (Steve) Carson, Susan (Peter) Mahlke, and Joni (Scott) Brabbit, all of Winona. Grandchildren, Jamie (Kaori), Jenny and Jon Schneider; Kate, Val and Eve Mahlke; Bailey, Cody, Raymie and Lane Brabbit. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002 at 10:30A.M. at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Rev. John Sauer officiating. Interment will be on Friday, Sept. 20, 2002 in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Members of American Legion Post #9, Winona, will conduct military burial honors at the church following the memorial Mass.
Friends may call at the Cathedral on Thursday from 9:00AM to 10:30A.M.
Fellow ushers from the Cathedral will serve as honorary casket bearers.
Memorial gifts may be directed to Cotter Schools.

Hinkley, Robert

The funeral service for Robert "Bob" William Hinckley will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2002, at the St. Charles United Methodist Church in St. Charles with the Rev. Sharon Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles.
Mr. Hinckley, 77, of rural Utica, died on Saturday, September 14, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester following heart surgery.
He was born on May 25, 1925, in rural Utica, Winona County to William Benjamin Hinckley and Hildegaard (Kemp) Hinckley. He attended St. Charles High School. On April 2, 1948, he married Leola Ihrke at St. Charles Methodist Church. They farmed on the family farm and he worked for Schultz Implement in St. Charles and Kalmes Implement in Altura, Minn. Bob was a member of the St. Charles United Methodist Church where he served on church committees and boards. He enjoyed the peacefulness of being in the outdoors, working on farm equipment, and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife, Leola; two sons: David (Cheryl) Hinckley of St. Charles and Dale (Marlys) Hinckley of Chatfield, Minn.; two daughters: Dawn (Steve) Sommer of Lewiston, Minn. and Denise (Gary) Pagel of Chatfield; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Hoff Funeral Homes ­ St. Charles Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

Ellner, Lorraine S.

Lorraine S. Ellner, 79, of Fountain City, WI., died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002 at Lake Winona Manor. She was born on July 24, 1923 in Buffalo County, WI. to John W. and Myrtle (Hertzfeldt) Schmoker.
She lived in Fountain City area until age 13. Her family then moved to St. Louis, MO. then Nashville, TN. On December 7, 1942 she married William Louis Ellner in Mobile, Alabama. Bill transfered to Alaska for the military and after a year, Lorraine joined him in Anchorage. From there they moved back to Nashville and in 1989 they moved to Fountain City.
Lorraine is a member of St. Martin's Ev. Lutheran Church, Winona.
Lorraine is survived by her husband, Bill of Fountain City; a sister-in-law, Sally (Paul) Scott, Nashville, TN.; a brother-in-law, Andrew J. (Barbara) Ellner, Decatur, Alabama.; an aunt, Erna Putz, Arcadia, WI.; godchildren, Luanne Rehse, Donya Waynick and Deanne Becker and other relatives.
Funeral services for Lorraine were on Monday, Sept. 16, 2002 at 2:00P.M. at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Fountain City, WI., Rev. David Henslin of St. Martin's Ev. Lutheran Church, Winona officiaiting. Interment is in Fountain City Public Cemetery, Fountain City, WI.
Casket bearers were Richard Falls, Merlin Klebig, Bruce Arnoldy, Luanne Rehse, Donya Waynick and Deanne Becker.

Overland, Clair O.

Clair O. Overland, 74, of Rushford, died Sunday, September 1, 2002, at his home. He was born on January 30, 1928, in Fillmore County, Minn. to Hans and Emma (Carlson) Overland. Clair was raised in Rushford and Graduated from Rushford High School in 1946. He worked at the Rushford Creamery for several years after high school. On May 2, 1952, he married Ellen Maland. Clair then worked at the Hart Creamery and Farm Service in Hart, Minn. for 20 years. He started the M.S.I. Insurance Company Office in Rushford in 1972. He worked in the M.S.I. office for 20 years and was still working in the insurance business until the time of his death. Clair was a member of the Rushford Lutheran Church and the Men's Club there, the Rushford Lions Club, of which he was past president. Clair enjoyed visiting with family and friends, golfing, boating, fishing, camping, and especially following his grandchildren's activities. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; two sons: Phil (Mary Anne) Overland of Rushford and David Overland of Seattle Wash.; two daughters: Pam (Jerry) Klema of Roseau, Minn. and Lori (Perry) Benson of Houston, Minn.; seven grandchildren: Gabe, Mike, Dave, Sara, Brett, Tanner, and Audra; one great-grandson, Taylor; three step-grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren; and one sister: Thelma Hughes of Houston, Minn. Clair was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Helen Boyum; two brothers-in-law Robert Hughes and Erdman Boyum; and one son-in-law, Jerry Bunke. The memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2002, at Rushford Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Watson officiating. Burial of Clair's cremated body will be in the church cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Hoff Funeral Homes ­ Rushford Chapel.

Thomas, Margaret A.

Margaret A. Thomas, 93, formerly of 558 East Howard St., died Sunday, September 1, 2002 at Sauer Memorial Home where she was a resident for five years.
She was born March 17, 1909 in Winona to Henry M. and Mary M. (Fuchs) Wessel. She married Vern M. Thomas on November 6, 1933 in Fillmore County, Minn. He died January 26, 1978.
She and her husband farmed for many years on Homer Ridge. She also worked for the food service at Saint Teresa College.
She was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Parish, Council of Catholic Women, and served as a volunteer at Community Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Sharp of Winona and Carol (Richard) Lilla of Winter, Wis.; grandchildren: Gary (Nicolee) Thomas of Rochester, Minn., Kathy Henderson of Coon Rapids, Minn., Susan (John) Henderson of Lino Lakes, Minn., Paulette (Richard) Cummins of Reedsburg, Wis., Randal (Jennifer) Lilla of Holmen, Wis., Debra Walfer of Midland, Tex., and Patricia Pierce, Daniel Sharp, Larry Sharp and Junior Sharp, all of Las Vegas, Nev.; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Fahrendholz and Gertrude Prudoehl; a sister-in-law, Ann Wessel; and several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Earl V. Thomas, a daughter-in-law, Margaret Thomas, a sister, Veronica Koenig and a brother, Alois Wessel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, September 5, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with Rev. John M. Sauer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Randal Lilla, Richard Cummins, Gary Thomas and John Henderson.

Angst, William D. "Bill"

William David "Bill" Angst, 61, of Goodview, Minn., died at Lake Winona Manor after a long bout with cancer on Monday, September 2, 2002. His family was with him at the time of his passing.
Bill was born December 31, 1940 in Winona, to Willard and Bernice (O'Neill) Angst. He graduated from Cotter High School in 1958. On November 28, 1959, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Joan M. Pahnke.
Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #639 and the Park Rec Squares.
He owned Bill Angst Auto Service where he spent 30 years repairing vehicles and heavy equipment, later passing his business on to his sons, Dave and Bruce. He was also employed as a truck driver for Lake Center Industries and Ashley Distribution. He loved driving the Ashley truck with Joni as his co-pilot. He was an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast and NASCAR race fan.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Joni; loyal companion, Ashli; and children, Carol (Roger) Pomeroy of Mound, Minn., David (Viv) of Winona, Peg (Tim) Englerth of Winona, Steven (Annea) of Orlando, Fla., and Bruce (Jamie) of Winona. His great love was children, first his own, and especially his grandchildren, Mike, Matt, Lacey, Jessica, Alysha, Janine, Ashley, Josh and Brennan, who brought a sparkle to Bill's eyes with each visit. Bill is also survived by siblings, Sister Judi, O.S.F. of Clements, Minn., Terry and Tom (Linda) of Winona, and seven nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and Edward and Marcella Pahnke.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, September 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with preliminary services at 10:30 a.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rev. Daniel R. Dernek will officiate. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be David Angst, Tim Englerth, Roger, Mike and Matt Pomeroy, and Tom Angst.
Bill will always be remembered as "A man of kindness."

Grace Murray, 87, died Monday, September 2, 2002 at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.

Guerrero-Buggs, Robert "Skip"

Robert "Skip" Guerrero-Buggs died Friday, August 23, 2002 at his home in Minneapolis, Minn.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 3 at Hoff Funeral Homes - Burke Winona Chapel.

Dittrich, Margaret "Betty"

Margaret "Betty" Dittrich, 80, of Rochester, Minn., and formerly of St. Charles and Altura, died Friday, August 30, 2002 at Madonna Meadows in Rochester.
A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 4 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Revs. James Callahan, Caesar Dralega and Patrick Arens co-celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery at Oak Ridge.

Murray, Grace Elinor

Grace Elinor Murray, 89, of Winona died Monday September 2nd at Winona Community Memorial Hospital.
Grace was born November 9, 1912 in St. Charles to Gorham and Ethel (Perry) Palmer. She graduated from St. Charles High School and from Minneapolis Business College in 1930. Grace worked as a secretary in various locations. She and Don Murray were married September 9, 1942 in Everett, Washington. They lived in California until moving to Mankato in 1945. They later moved to Evansville, IN and Indianapolis for a short time. They also lived in Peoria, IL for 5 years; Watertown, SD of 2 years, then Des Moines, IA until 1965. Don died June 21, 1976. Grace moved to Winona in 1977.
She was a member of Central United Methodist; Order of the Eastern Star #141 and Senior Citizens all of Winona. Survivors include a niece Elinor (Joe) Mueller of Winona, two nephews Glenn Palmer of Fort Smith, AK and Gene Palmer of Gillette, WY.
Her husband Don, and a brother Glenn Palmer preceded her in death.
Funeral Services will be 11 AM Friday at Hoff Funeral Home's - St. Charles Chapel with the Rev. Mary Hurmence officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, St. Charles. Friends may call one hour before services at the funeral home.
