Arndt, Ruth J.

Ruth Johanna Arndt, 86, of Lake Winona Manor and formerly of 104 Main St., Winona, died Monday, January 27, 2003, at Lake Winona Manor. She was born in Fillmore County, Minn., on October 26, 1916, to Reinert and Mary (Dahle) Hatlevig.
She resided in Rochester, Minn., from 1955 to 1967, when she moved to Winona. Ruth was employed at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona, as a housekeeper, and later at the Holiday Inn in the same capacity.
Ruth married George H. Arndt on May 30, 1942, in Winona. He preceded her in death on July 11, 1967. She is a member of the Winona Senior Friendship Center.
She is survived by two sons, Richard (Mary) Arndt, Rochester, Minn., and Roger Arndt, Winona, Minn., one daughter, Cheryl (Darwin) Friedrich, Rochester, Minn., three grandchildren, Julie Ann Arndt, Barbara Jean (Clifford) Berquam and Richard Arndt, Jr., four great-grandchildren, Kyle Berquam, Christian, Anthony and Jeremiah Arndt, and two sisters, Evelyn (Eugene) O'Brien, Winona, and Jean (Isaac) Kelippio, Milwaukee, Wis.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services for Ruth will be on Friday, January 31, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fawcett- Junker Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m., then on Friday till time of services.
Casket bearers are Richard Arndt, Jr., David, Robert and Michael O'Brien.
Memorial gifts may be directed to Lake Winona Manor, Winona, Minn.

Hill, Arthur E.

Arthur E. Hill, of 1353 East Burns Valley Road, Winona, Minn., died at home on Tuesday, January 28, 2003.
He was born on December 12, 1909. He was 93. Art was born in Minneapolis to Howard and Mae (Dexter) Hill. As a boy he grew up in Minneapolis. After high school Art worked for the Vacume Oil Co. and Northrup King Seed Company. He decided he wanted to get into sales work so he went with Minnesota Paper and Cordage Company where he built a successful territory in northern Minnesota. He married his wife, Verna Epple Hill, on June 20, 1933. He later transferred to an envelope company that wanted to build a northern Minnesota territory, but World War II came along and the company couldn't get paper to make envelopes, so he took a job as a defense guard at the General Mills Defense Plant. He later worked at a shipyard in Savage, Minn., as a safety engineer. As the war was coming to an end Art wanted to get back into sales work so he took training and a sales job with the Diversy Corp. in 1944. That is when he and his family moved to Winona. In Winona, Art began his career in the insurance business. He and his wife, Verna, worked with and later owned the Dopke-Hill Insurance Agency. The agency's name later changed to Hiawatha Agency. Art and Verna owned the agency until the time of their retirement.
He and Verna joined Central Methodist Church in 1944.
During his life Art was very active with the Minnesota Conference of the United Methodist Church. He became Church Lay Leader and Conference Lay Leader of the Minnesota Conference of the United Methodist Church of Minnesota as well as serving on numerous regional, state and local church committees.
His wife, Verna, died on Oct. 29, 2000. They had two sons, Arthur L. Hill and his wife, Elaine (Leidholm) Hill, New Brighton, Minn., and James L. Hill and his wife, Carol (Zollman) Hill, of Winona. He was living with Jim and Carol at the time of his death.
He is survived by his two sons and their wives and grandchildren and great-grandchildren:
Stephen Hill and wife, Kim, and children, Mathew and Amanda Jo; Kimberly (Hill) Reithmeyer and husband, Guy, and children, Jesse and Seth; Gregory Hill and wife, Tammy, and children, Rae Ann and Thomas; Ricky Phillips and wife, Pam, and daughters, Kinzie and Kimberly; Barbara Sherod and husband, Jeffrey, and children, Carly and Collin; Raymond (Cady) Hill and son, Lane Molitor.
Other survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his four grandparents, his parents, his wife and a brother and sister.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 30, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church, Winona, with Rev. Mary E. Hurmence, officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Friends may call at Central United Methodist Church on Thursday starting at 10:00 a.m.
Pallbearers are grandchildren: Ricky Phillips, Kimberly (Hill) Reithmeyer, Gregory Hill, Stephen Hill, Jessie Anderson, and Barbara Sherod.
Memorials may be directed to Central United Methodist Church or the donor's choice.
Arrangements are being completed by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

Kujak, Thomas P.

Thomas Paul Kujak, 43, of 351 Wayne St., Winona, died Sunday, January 26, 2003, at his home.
Tom was born in Winona on August 29, 1959, the son of Hubert I. and Irene M. (Budnick) Kujak. He began working at the age of twelve washing trucks for his father at Kujak Transport, later becoming a mechanic. Kujak Transport was sold to Lawrence Transportation in 1999. Tom continued with Lawrence and was currently the shop foreman.
He also co-owned and operated E.J. & T. Trucking from 1987 to 1997.
He married Kathy A. Bryson on Oct. 2, 1987, at St. Mary's Catholic Church where he is still a member.
Tom is survived by his wife, Kathy; mother, Irene Kujak, Winona; brother, Gerald (Barbara) Kujak, Goodview, Minn.; mother- and father-in-law, Carolyn and Clayton Bryson, Sr., Marseilles, Ill.; sister -in-law, Connie Bryson and her children, Dylan and Devin of Winona.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Kujak.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Winona, Rev. Joseph Keefe officiating. Entombment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 5-9 p.m.
Casket bearers will be Steve Cichosz, Robert Budnick, James Whalen, Scott Holzworth, Clayton "Chip" and Devin Bryson, Bryon Cummings and Gary Eisen.
Memorial gifts may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church or to St. Mary's Cemetery of Winona.

Schreiber, Wilfrid P.

Wilfrid P. "Bill" Schreiber, age 88, passed away June 25, 2002 at Saint Anne Extended Healthcare, Winona.
He was born here in Winona, August 20, 1913, son of Andrew and Martha (Meier) Schreiber. They later moved to Rochester where he graduated from Rochester High School. After retiring from the TRANE Co., LaCrosse, WI in 1976, he lived in Lake Havasu City, AZ and Chula Vista, CA.
His beloved wife Elsie M. (nee Schultz) died May 15, 1991 in Lake Havasu City, AZ, shortly before their 55th wedding anniversary. They had no children.
He was a USMC WWII veteran, an active member of the American Legion, member of Knights of Columbus and lifetime member of the Republican National Party.
His three siblings: brother, Robert J (Irene), sisters, Virginia (Phil) Walton and Elizabeth "Betty" (Harding) Johnson preceded him in death.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens in Lake Havasu City.
A memorial mass in Winona will be set for a later date.
Arrangements are being completed by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

Speltz, Bernita
Bernita Speltz, 83, formerly of Rollingstone, Minn., died Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, LaCrosse, Wis.
Bernita was born July 3, 1919 in Manchester, Iowa to Ferdinand and Eva (Schneider) Walter. On November 25, 1947 she married Thomas A. Speltz in Winona. He died November 25, 1992.
She worked with her husband and brother-in-law at the Speltz Chick Hatchery in Rollingstone. She was also a secretary for the Diocese of Winona for many years, retiring in 1989.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone and the St. Nicholas-St. Theresa Society. Bernita was an avid volunteer, helping school children in Rollingstone and aiding residents of St. Anne of Winona. She was recently honored for her volunteer efforts during Volunteer Week at St. Anne of Winona.
Bernita was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her son, Patrick of St. Paul, Minn.; two daughters, Jolene (Robert) Overbeck of Venice, Cal., and Linda (Joseph) Lowther of Winona; grandchildren, Zoe and Joseph Overbeck, Michael and Jacob Lowther and Christopher Speltz; great-grandchildren, Jenna and Blaine Lowther; one brother, Carlus (Mardele) Walter of Winona; and one sister, Theresa Walter of Winona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Tom, brother, Severin, and sister, Marcella.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone with Rev. Michael Cronin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church where there will be a Christian Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Helleland, Cheryl L.

Cheryl L. Helleland, 53, of Rushford died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on March 16, 1949, in Rushford, to Louis and Helen (Gielow) Kingsley. Cheryl was raised in Rushford and graduated from Rushford High School in 1967. She married Leon Helleland in Money Creek, Minn. on July 25, 1967. Cheryl worked in various places in Rushford up until the time of her illness in 1996. She was a member of the Rushford Lutheran Church in Rushford where she was active on the church council and was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Federated Women for the Arts in Rushford. Cheryl enjoyed crafts, reading, her family and especially children. She is survived by her husband Leon; her mother Helen Kingsley of Rushford; one son: Brian (Lisa) Helleland of Scottsdale, Arizona; one daughter: Michelle (Chris) Vitse of Peterson, Minn.; four grandchildren: Riley, Morgan, Tamara, Jamie, plus one grandson who will be born any day; four brothers: Edward Kingsley and Roger (Mary) Kingsley, both of Houston; Ronald Kingsley of LaCrosse, Wis., and Randy Kingsley of Rushford. She was preceded in death by her father, and one brother Ray.
The funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 28, at Rushford Lutheran Church in Rushford with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial was in the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.

Kouba, Hunter Michael

Hunter Michael Kouba, age 33 days, son of Jeffrey S. Kouba and Emily M. Homsher, 619 West Fifth St., died Monday, January 20, 2003, at Fairview University Riverside Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born December 18, 2002, in Winona.
He is survived by his parents; paternal grandparents, David and Donna Kouba of Winona; paternal great-grandmother, Marie Kouba of Winona; paternal great-grandmother, Hazel Buege of Winona; maternal grandparents, Robert and Kathleen Homsher of Milwaukee, Wis.; many uncles, aunts and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Emma and George Niesl, Carl and Elsie Homsher, and Frank Kouba.
A special thank you to the N.I.C.U. at Riverside Children's Hospital, and the Ronald McDonald House.
A Mass of the Angels was celebrated Friday, January 24, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church with Rev. Daniel R. Dernek officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John, Jerry, Joe, and Jamie Kouba, and Todd Rathkamp.

Rolbiecki, Pamela Suzanne

Pamela Suzanne Rolbiecki, 24, loving daughter of David and Janice (Baertsch) Rolbiecki, formerly of Winona, died unexpectedly Sunday, January 19, 2003, in Tucson, Ariz.
A Funeral Mass was offered Friday, January 24, at St. Thomas Becket Catholic Church in Eagan, Minn. Burial was Saturday, January 25, in Cottage Grove Cemetery, Cottage Grove, Minn.
