Gilbert, Sister Terence
Sister Terence Gilbert, 85, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, Minn., who served as an educator, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Assisi Heights, Rochester.
Born Geraldine Gilbert on July 21, 1917, in Chicago, Ill., Sister Terence entered the Franciscan Congregation in 1934, from St. Priscilla Parish, Chicago. She made profession of vows in 1937, and began her teaching career at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Easton, Minn. Sister taught in various schools in Minnesota including Currie, Waseca, Winona, and Sleepy Eye. She taught at Lourdes High School, Rochester, from 1956-1958, and in Austin, Minn., from 1968-1986, where she served as assistant principal and counselor at Pacelli High School. She also taught in Ironton and Portsmouth, Ohio, and Chicago. She retired to Assisi Heights in 1992, and celebrated her diamond jubilee in 1997.
Sister Terence is survived by her Franciscan community.

Gerken, Edith E.
Edith E. Gerken, 76, of Lake City, Minn., died Friday, April 18, 2003, at Hi-Park Care Center in Red Wing, Minn.
A memorial service was held Monday, April 21, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City, with Rev. Scott Carmichael officiating. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery in Lake City.

Beyers, Ross Wayne
Ross Wayne Beyers, 45, of 416 West Mill St., died Friday, April 18, 2003, at Sauer Memorial Home.
He was born July 4, 1957, in Winona, to Raymond and June E. (Ross) Beyers.
Ross had been employed at Badger Foundry for 18 years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Katherine (James) Christopherson, of Minnesota City, Minn.; his parents, Raymond and June Beyers, of Winona; two sisters, Karen (Dennis) Paul, of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Dorothea (Robert) Peterson, of Lewiston, Minn.; a nephew, Jacob Paul; three nieces, Rebekah Paul, Leah Peterson and Kayla Peterson; and his former wives, Cheryl (Pronschinske) Gonia and Barbara Schueler.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 22, at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Al Kleinsasser officiating.

Comero, Norman J.
Norman J. Comero, 91, of Waumandee, Wis., died Friday, April 18, 2003, at St. Michael's Lutheran Home in Fountain City, Wis.
He was born January 19, 1912, in Arcadia, Wis., to Willie and Emma (Flury) Comero. He grew up in the Town of Montana and attended the Hillside School. On May 4, 1937, he married Violet Ratz at the Montana Methodist Parsonage.
Norman farmed for 27 years in Montana Township, and later worked at Garden Valley Coop for 10 years. He also worked for S.C.S. for many years and drove school bus for 4 years. Norman had also served as treasurer for the Hillside School. He was a member of the Montana United Methodist Church.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and bowler, and he especially liked playing horseshoes.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Comero, of Cochrane, Wis.; five sons, Melvin (Carol) Comero, of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Gene (Rosie) Comero, of Rochester, Minn., Roger (Nanci) Comero, of Waumandee, Wis., Norman Lee (Carol) Comero, of Maple Grove, Minn., and Aaron Comero, of Waumandee; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Adeline (Lester) Plank, of Cochrane, Wis.; and one brother, Jesse (LaVonne) Comero, of Eau Claire, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clayton and Jerome Comero, and two sisters, Ida Haigh and Nora Comero.
Funeral services were Monday, April 21, at the Montana United Methodist Church in rural Cochrane. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Melvin Comero, Gene Comero, Roger Comero, Norman Lee Comero, Aaron Comero, and Loyal Guenther.
J.S. Wozney Funeral Chapel assisted with the arrangements.

Glover, William "Pete"
William David "Pete" Glover, 80, of St. Charles died Sunday morning, April 20, 2003, at Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles.
Pete was born June 6, 1922, in Stewartville to Oscar and Frances (Johnstone) Glover. He was raised in Chatfield and graduated from high school there. Pete and June Hall were married October 29, 1944, in St. Paul. They lived in White Bear Lake for a year, then in Chatfield for 7 years. Pete and June then made their home in St. Charles for the majority of their married life. Pete was a lineman for Bell Telephone Company in St. Charles and Chatfield for many years. He was widely known and loved by the youth of St. Charles.
He was active in community and civic events, including Lions Club where he served as Tail Twister for many years. He also enjoyed golfing and spending time at the St. Charles Golf Course. He greatly enjoyed his Canadian fishing trips with Doc Hawk. Pete served on the Winona County Fair Board and was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, June; three sons, Don (Carol) Glover of White Bear Lake, Tom Glover (Renee Plass) of Lewiston, and Jim Glover (Sharon Kovaleski) of Utica; a daughter, Sue (Virgil) Vickerman of White Bear Lake; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bob (Marlys) Glover of St. Charles. His parents preceded him in death.
There will be a Funeral Mass 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with the Rev. James Callahan officiating. Burial will follow at the Chatfield Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and noon until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Home's - St. Charles Chapel. There will be a Rosary recited at 4:30 p.m. and a time of sharing at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Keller, Darlene L.
Darlene L. Keller, 73, of St. Charles, died Monday, April 21, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Darlene was born July 25, 1929, in Winona County to Albert and Minnie (Bublitz) Senrick. She and Theodore Robert "Ted" Keller were married December 26, 1945, in Winona. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in St. Charles Township, Winona County. Following her husband's death on February 18, 1995, she moved from the family farm. She later moved to Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles, where she resided for 7 years.
Darlene enjoyed cooking, reading and dining out with her family. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
Survivors include five children, Bonnie King of Rochester, Judie Gates of Circle Pines, Vicki (Dennis) Duncan of Rochester, Rick (Melody) Keller of St. Charles and Susan (Tim) Keller-Schaefer of Rochester; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Gladys Erdmann of Winona and Shirley Christopherson of Albert Lea. In addition to her husband, Ted, a brother, Alton Senrick, and a sister, LaVerne Rupprecht, have preceded her in death.
There will be a Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with the Rev. James Callahan officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 p.m. Friday at Hoff Funeral Home's - St. Charles Chapel. There will be a Rosary recited at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are preferred to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, St. Charles Volunteer Ambulance and Whitewater Healthcare Center activities program.

Marsh, Henry Albert
Henry Albert Marsh, 97, Sauer Memorial Home, and formerly of 251 Walnut St., died Monday, April 21, 2003, at the Sauer Home.
He was born May 4, 1905, in Manson, Iowa. He married Evelyn E. Nelson. She is deceased.
Graveside services will be on Friday, April 25, at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona. There will be no public visitation. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Rollins, Lillian A.
Lillian A. Rollins, 79, of Rushford, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at her home. Lillian was born on February 15, 1924, in Rushford, to Ludvig and Amanda (Berland) Fossum. She graduated from Rushford High School in 1943. On April 22, 1945, she married Donald "Tinker" Rollins in El Paso, Texas. She lived in California where she worked for Lockheed as a riveter. She moved with her family to Chester, Iowa, for 30 years where she worked as a postal clerk. Lillian and Tinker moved back to Rushford in 1987. Tinker died in July of 1991. Lillian worked at Norby's Jewelry Store in Rushford. She was a member of the Rushford Lutheran Church and was active in circle, ladies aide and making quilts and lefse. She was also a member of the Rushford Historical Society, American Legion Auxiliary and was a volunteer at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home and SEMCAC. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and loved her children and grandchildren dearly.
She is survived by two sons, Terry (Joanie) Rollins of Decorah, Iowa, and Greg (Sandy) Rollins of LeRoy, Minn.; one daughter, Pat (Lenny) Volkman of Rushford; nine grandchildren: James, Jill, Laura, Rylee, Gunnar, Lee, LeAnn, Lowell, and Mandy; six great-grandchildren: Leigh, Tifany, Bridgette, David, Garret, and Amber; one sister, Helen Ebner of Sun City, California. She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson, Zane Rollins, and one brother, Conrad Fossum. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, at Rushford Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Grove City Cemetery in Rushford. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Hoff Funeral Homes ­ Rushford Chapel and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. The family prefers memorials to be directed to the Eagles Cancer Telethon.

Rupprecht, Elmer F.
Elmer F. Rupprecht, 81, of Eyota, and a former longtime St. Charles area farmer, died Sunday evening April 20, 2003, at his home in Eyota.
Elmer was born October 11, 1921, in Winona County to Ben and Lucy (Luehmann) Rupprecht. He attended rural schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1939. Elmer served in the Marines from 1943-1945, stationed in the South Pacific during WWII. Elmer and Lucille M. Cole were married on September 18, 1948. They farmed in rural St. Charles for many years. In 2001 they moved to Rochester and to Eyota in 2002.
Elmer belonged to St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles. He was active in American Legion Post #190 of St. Charles, and was a past-commander. He was also a past-commander of St. Charles Veterans of Foreign Wars. Elmer served on many boards including the Winona County Planning and Zoning, Saratoga Cemetery Board as Treasurer, St. Charles Creamery Board, and the Consolidated Breeders/Midwest Breeders Board of Directors. He was a 4-H Leader for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille; two daughters, Marlys (Rick) Wollschlager of Madison, MInn., and Marian (Kevin) Arndt of Winnebago; a son, Marty (Kristi) Rupprecht of West Union, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; one sister, Mabel Braun, of Minnesota City; two brothers, Hilbert Rupprecht of Lewiston and Roger Rupprecht of Westport, Oregon.
An infant daughter, Louise Marie, a grandson, Jon Wollschlager, and a brother, Kenneth Rupprecht, preceded him in death.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Saratoga Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Home's - St. Charles Chapel. Friends may also call one hour before services at the church.
Memorials are suggested to St. Matthew Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

Dernek, Arthur Sylvester
Our uncle, Arthur Sylvester Dernek, 92, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at Lake Winona Manor.
Arthur was born to John and Martha (Kamin) Dernek in their home on July 1, 1910. He was baptized into the Catholic community at St. John Nepomucene Church in Winona on July 14, 1910, where he became a lifelong member. Arthur attended St. John's Parochial School.
In his early years, Art served in the Army during World War II and was discharged in 1943. He was temporarily employed at the Arlington Club and the Hurry Back where "deluxe" hamburgers became his specialty. On May 12, 1945, Arthur Dernek was appointed to the Winona Fire Department, continuing the tradition of his deceased father, Captain John Dernek. In September 1951, Art was promoted to fire truck driver until he retired on May 13, 1970. He served the Winona community well at both the Central and the West End fire stations and always enjoyed sharing stories and his knowledge about fire trucks. He greatly enjoyed the Winona Fire Department Relief Association Reunion last September as the oldest retired fireman and his final ride in a fire truck (thank you).
Arthur married later in life to Delia Fahrendholz on January 8, 1955. She died April 29, 1969. They both enjoyed their home and short time together.
Art's hobbies were his yard work around the house, his woodcrafts, feeding the birds, and the many martin birdhouses that he built for the St. John's Church bazaar, as well as his relatives and friends. If you caught Art during a rest period his reply would be "I'm resting my eyes."
Uncle Art is preceded in death by his wife, Delia, four brothers, Leonard, Richard, Joseph and John, and one sister, Esther.
He is survived by niece, Geraldine McElmury, of White Bear Lake, Minn.; two nephews, Rev. Daniel Dernek, of Winona, and Rev. Richard Dernek, of Blooming Prairie, Minn.; grand-nephews, Michael and Richard; and grand-nieces, Jennifer and Mary Sue.
We are grateful to all who befriended Art during his earthly journey. We also appreciate the care given to him by the employees at Winona Community Memorial Hospital. Many thanks to all who comfort us as we release "Uncle Art" to our Heavenly Father.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, April 15, at St. John Nepomucene Church, with his nephews, Rev. Daniel Dernek and Rev. Richard Dernek officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Leon J. Wetzel American Legion Post, was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Senn, Lillian R.
Lillian R. Senn, 72, of 162 Sharal Lane, Minnesota City, Minn., died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.
She was born May 9, 1930, in Minnesota City in Rollingstone Township, to William and Bertha (Church) Streng. She married Winfred J. Senn on July 31, 1948, in Winona.
She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Parish in Minnesota City, and a member of the St. Theresa Guild.
Survivors include her husband, Winfred, of Minnesota City; a son, Kevin (Michelle) Senn, of Port Huron, Mich.; a brother, Duane Streng, of Minnesota City; a sister, Elaine (Clarence) Smith, of Winona; a brother-in-law, Maurice Anderson, of Minnesota City; and a sister-in-law, Cecelia Streng.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, William Jr., a brother, Phillip, an infant sister, Anita, a sister, Eleanor Anderson, her stepmother, Murial, and a stepbrother, Richard.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, April 15, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Minnesota City, with Rev. Edward Cunningham, O.M.I., officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Todd Brugger, Brad Anderson, Gary Smith, Phillip John Streng, Bob Moldenhauer, and Terry Smith.

Thill, Audrey Evelyn
Audrey Evelyn Thill, 79, of St. Anne Extended Healthcare, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at St. Anne.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, April 14, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph L. Keefe officiating. Burial was in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Wilson, Minn.
